Overview

Ryu is meant to be the solid all-around character in Street Fighter V, who has tools for every situations but not excel in any particular area. With the up coming season 3 balance patch and his signature (but tweaked) donkey kick, will he become a stronger character among the Season 3 roster?

those who got out of bronze, how much did the "Gief's Gym" tutorial helped?

Posted: 03 Jan 2018 07:20 AM PST

I've been in the "bronze - super bronze" league ever since this game launched; occasionally touching ultra bronze. I would like to know how much improvement I can get from doing the Gief's gym. I am a super casual player, I normally play an hour (sometimes two) right before bedtime. I play for fun. However, all of my friends are in silver and gold now. We all started as bronze and everything was fun until they took it seriously and started reading tutorials. Now I just can't enjoy the game anymore because of the skill gap. I don't have much free time as they do, if I dedicate 30 minutes just doing gief's gym tutorial, how much improvement can I get from that? will I be able to get out of bronze and be a silver? Also, is there any point in playing with players way above your skill? I can't win a single game, though sometimes I feel like they are giving me a "mercy" game so I don't feel all that bad. help!

Back Rise vs. Normal Rise Meaty: Read or Reaction?

Posted: 03 Jan 2018 08:17 AM PST

Hey guys,

Hopefully the title says it all on this one, and sorry for the super general question, but I'm wondering about back rise vs. quick rise meaties. The optimal meaty buttons for back and quick rise off of some combo finishers are different between the two, and I'm wondering if you base this timing off of a read or reaction.

If it's a reaction, any tips on learning to visually pick out a quick rise vs. a back rise during a dash? I've got OK reactions on confirms, but this one's been really tricky for me without a sound or visual queue that you get with hit confirms.

Having trouble against Menat as Laura

Posted: 03 Jan 2018 08:24 AM PST

Need some tips. Faced a Menat in ranked who was "literally trolling never even played her" (messaged me afterwards) and so far I've been beating every person in continuous matches with my Laura. This guy made me pull hairs from my scalp. Just spammed poke moves and I tried to Time the pokes with my linear movement avante but he would start countering my entrance with shorter ranged attacks. I took two rounds Out of the four he beat me in (beat me in two matches). Have no idea what the hell to do against this character. I'm in super bronze and yes I know I'm bad so please don't remind me, just give me some advice. Laura is up close and rushdown. The rounds I won were when I punished him for a bad move and rushed him down but he played safe staffer that. I'm so frustrated and have no idea what to do.

Sorry for the tl;dr

I'm a nash main based in the UK, I don't really have any friends who play this game and really only play online against strangers. Would anyone fancy some casuals for fun/matchup experience? feel free to add me on steam here.

Fightstick help for a beginner

Posted: 03 Jan 2018 07:01 AM PST

So I recently picked up sfv, with only some mkx and injustice 2 experience before this, and wanted to get a stick. Mostly because they look fun, but the controls are also a little weird for pad compared to injustice 2 imo. Im pretty new, but I've done a bit of research. I kind of have it boiled down to a few options. 1. Qanba obsidian. 2. Razer panthera. 3. Te2plus. These seemed like good picks for longevity. I do have a few questions though.

-should i still get a te2 even though mad catz is no longer up?

-where is the best place to get one if so?

-do most players prefer square or octagonal gate? Should i just buy both gates and switch on which feels better, or is there one that is marginally better?

Also, a few things maybe I could tell you.

-i might switch to pc in the future, currently on ps4.

-i like the idea of changing the artwork

-i can spend up to like 200

So that's pretty much it. I have been searching online for a while, but still would like some help. Any suggestions/opinions for a stick would be awesome. Thanks so much, sorry if this is the wrong sub for this.
