The map generator is way too awesome to only be used for Rimworld.

Posted: 08 Jan 2018 05:21 PM PST

Is there any chance the map generator could ever be released as a standalone tool, with both 3D and 2D views, and hopefully exporting the 2D maps as images? I write a little in my spare time and I love creating whole worlds, but the creation of an entire planet and naming all places just so I can always think of possible future stories that all link up is tedious, and the map generation is superb and actually very realistic.

Pretty please do this if it won't take a lot of effort for you guys, even if you charge something like 5 dollars for it.

Thoughts after my first game

Posted: 08 Jan 2018 08:16 AM PST

Well I finished my first game, 5 years, normal scenario, Phoebe on Some Challenge. Built a ship and took off, all 13 colonists including the original 3.

-Overall great game, really fun and enjoyable, sucks you in and makes your whole Saturday disappear really easily.

-As advertised, Phoebe was very slow and gave me lots of time to do stuff. Got boring at the end though and I was always eager for more raids. Won't probably use her in the future.

-I thought it was really neat how you could keep playing the colony after everyone left. I left behind a lot of stuff and a small army of wolves. A refugee called and asked for help (I guess the wolves answered?) and I accepted. A fat naked guy came running into the base; I had him switch on the turrets and man the mortar. He died pretty fast. About 25% of the raiders died from traps, turrets, friendly fire, and wolf attacks, but the rest slaughtered 75% of the wolves, set the base on fire, helped themselves to my uranium and gold, and left. I did find it amusing that a 15 year old pyromaniac raider burned to death in the blaze she started.

Overall it put a tragic capstone on the whole experience, like yes your colonists made it to "safety" in the stars but everything they left behind was quickly destroyed. I don't know what I expected but it's quite a melancholy ending. Great stuff.

-Building the ship was too easy and too boring. Getting the resources was simple, just time consuming. I would have liked it more if the components were easier to build but you get raids. Raiders should be eager to attack any spaceship launching, not just that one.

-Some other ending goals might be nice, like take over all the other factions, make peace with everyone, end the mechanoid threat, etc. When I play it again I probably won't even bother building the ship and just play until I get bored like most people.

-The forced nature of bad things happening constantly is a little dumb. Like the constant equipment failures. Stuff doesn't just randomly break, it should have a maintenance level and allow preventative repairs. The game does this in the name of "drama" but in the end the random breakages are trivial anyway and I started ignoring them.

-Numerous other bad events should be either easier to avoid or prepare for. Lightning rods are an old, 17th century technology. Grounding wires and circuit breakers have existed for at least 100 years. Scouting, outposts, and radar should all give early warning of raids. Infestations should give off tremors before popping up under your feet. Buildings can be shielded to protect generators from solar flares. Etc. etc. It's really strange that you can build a spaceship but not all this other stuff.

Is there a way to prevent pawns from taking food with them at all? Maybe a mod or something?

Posted: 08 Jan 2018 09:37 PM PST

As the title says, I am wondering if there is a way to prevent pawns from taking food into their inventory.

Boomalopes are the best thing

Posted: 08 Jan 2018 08:37 PM PST

God damn they're so useful. I can just keep some in a barn, feed them with haygrass, and BOOM (lul). Free power. And material for explosives, too!

Come to think of it, are there any mods with useful animals like this?

Let me tell you the story of Dunk the Raccoon (long)

Posted: 08 Jan 2018 09:10 AM PST

I'm pretty new at Rimworld, playing for under a month, but I feel like I have it down pretty down pact. So I thought, after my peaceful playthrough I was going to try my handout with a raider playthrough where i just make drugs, spread chaos and harvest organs and human leather. Simple stuff.

I used that mod that allowed you to create your own characters, my girlfriend wanted us in the game. So I made us. For the pet, she really wanted a raccoon because she loves raccoons. I added the little guy.

Fast forward a couple weeks in game, and things are going great. We have guns, food, drugs, almost ready to start our raiding party across this great planet.

Then the firestorm happened.

We were lucky, almost no fire spread to our base as we have a solid rock wall.

But here comes Dunk.

Dunk was set on fire, and in a panic ran into the base, spreading fire onto our nice wood floors that I was just about to replace, setting the whole house on fire, setting everyone else on fire, setting off chemfuel, destroying everything.

Because the raccoon died, and I didnt want to upset the girlfriend, i reloaded from a different save.

This was part one of Dunk the raccoon.

After I reloaded and put Dunk on a home only restriction (he liked to follow this girl called Sam to my girlfriends dismay) Things were pretty chill.

Then the tribal raid happened.

It was about 5 of us with machine guns and bolt action rifles vs. 8 tribals with the usual bows and knives. Easy stuff.

Then Dunk.

He wanted to follow Sam as Sam was home at the base. He followed Sam and got a single arrow through him killing him on the spot. Girlfriend would be very unhappy.

Reload.

Same battle, made it so Dunk wouldn't follow anyone.

Dunk, out of the most brilliance show of AI I have ever seen in my young life, walked in front of us, in the middle of this large battle with machine guns and bows. Just moseyed down in there. A tribal ran up and stabbed him.

Reload

This time, I put Dunk my girlfriends and I's bedroom. the fucker couldnt leave. We won.

things went okay, we raided, harvested organs, sold drugs. we were terrible human beings. Just like god intended.

Then pirates.

They attacked from the north, very few defenses as I have some turrets up there and I really could not be asked. But thats also where most of the bunks and rooms are.

Dunk at this point is only allowed in our room and the food room so he can eat.

Pirates attack us, taking out all our turrets and had about two grenadiers and a molotov thrower.

It was like those pirates knew Dunk was in there. it was like they had some kind of Dunk-Raccoon vendetta.

They all threw grenades at the walls, like they were not even trying to hit the now 7 people throwing lead at them. They broke through our sandstone walls and someone threw a Molotov in.

Hitting Dunk.

Only Dunk.

Dunk spread the fire. everywhere. Somehow survived enough to destroy all our food Which was in a steel walled room after the first instance, so it would not burn down

Dunk died. With a heavy heart I reloaded.

Put Dunk inside the fridge, so when the raid happened he could not die. survived.

After all this bs, I made a very specific plan so that he would not get in the ways of battle, always be in a safe location, baby proofed the whole place for this one fucking Raccoon.

Died by a wolf in the first 5 minutes.

Reload.

Dunk is still alive, doing well. My girlfriend only knows about one instance of his death, didnt tell her about most of them. The next time he dies, which lets face it, I'm not even playing right now and he probably died to looking at a wall too hard, I'm just going to bury him inside a grave and forget about this demon Raccoon from hell.

For sucks sake, in my first playthrough I had a major Alzheimer's fox that puked everywhere and lost pretty much every body part god gave him and he never died once. He defeated a fucking BEAR (with the help of a turret, but lets face it, machine guns couldnt hit a broad side of a barn)

Yet this little raccoon, in the best health possible trips over his own tail and gets stabbed through the heart with a abnormally pointy piece of corn.

I’d love to see “colored dye” in this game

Posted: 08 Jan 2018 08:50 PM PST

Maybe it could be something we would have to research, like carpet making. But, I'd love to be able to die my beds and furniture different colors to fit along with the color scheme of my bases.

Skin color mod?

Posted: 08 Jan 2018 02:59 PM PST

Are there any mods out there that allow for more of an RGB choice for skin color? Looking to make humanoids, no special difference from a regular pawn, but I can make their skin red?

Thanks!

Toxic Fallout is the worst thing in this game. It's boring.

Posted: 09 Jan 2018 01:23 AM PST

For the first time last night, I got the Toxic Fallout event. It's fair to say I was not prepared.

I was in a Large Hill, Arid Shrubland biome. So I got a small town going... soon there are 6 pawns, and every one of them is good at something important! A DREAM! Soon we're making pump shotguns and hundreds of lavish meals (over 750 total fine and lavish meals total). Then it Happens.

Toxic fallout. I think to myself, okay, maybe I'll restrict the chickens and even the pawns to a small area indoors.. not knowing how long this will last, I assumed it would be like solar flare length... day 2 comes around and I'm bored. The pawns have to walk outside to the kitchen and to the dining room and back to their room. Okay. This wouldn't be so bad except for the fact that THESE FUCKING IDIOTS GO "WANDERING" OUTSIDE ALL THE TIME.

Here's the gist: it's day 10, there is no chance of starvation... so it's just me watching these idiot pawns walk from their bedroom to the dining room and wander outside to get dementia and carcinomas for EVER. NOTHING HAPPENS.

Day 16 now. I'm probably gonna quit. This is lame as fuck. I legitimately don't enjoy the game right now and this may have put me off of it for a long time.

BTW I'm on Cassandra Basebuilder and I've only just researched gunsmithing a season or two ago so this isn't a late game issue.

EDIT: Sorry I just doublechecked and I've just (literally as i'm typing this) finished the research for Gun Turrets. so... two levels past Gunsmithing? Regardless: THIS IS FUCKING AWFUL.

is there a working "shutdown all mechs" mod?

Posted: 09 Jan 2018 01:04 AM PST

i am asking since the amount of disabled mechanoids in my killzone reached a critical mass. At some point i was to lazy to manually shut down 50 mechs per raid - a few raids later this is becoming a real problem!

Question: rimworld mod that merges similiar items i own.

Posted: 09 Jan 2018 12:39 AM PST

Hi there, After googling 10 min about rimworld stack mod i failed to find what i was looking for. There is a rimworld mod that merges similar items in your item show list on the left side of the screen. Like 25 types of leather are hidden behind a "leather" tab.

Can you please tell me its name?
