Elder Scrolls Online - MAGFest Panel Info & Meetup

MAGFest Panel Info & Meetup

Posted: 02 Jan 2018 12:16 PM PST

Hello friends! Creating a new thread since the original one is too old for reddit.

Just a reminder that the ESO Audio Team will be hosting a panel at MAGFest Friday, January 5 at 1:30pm in Panel Room 2 (Woodrow Wilson Ballroom). The discussion will be about how we adapted audio from a formerly-single player franchise to the MMO world, and how we brought the world of ESO to life through music, sounds effects, and ambient sound. If you aren't able to be there in person, the panel will be recorded so we can share it with you later.

If you live in the area but aren't able to attend MAGFest, we'll be hosting a casual meetup from 4-6pm at The Irish Whisper on 177 Fleet Street, just across the street from the Gaylord.

Team members in attendance will include:

  • Brad Derrick, Audio Director
  • Bill Mueller, Senior Sound Designer
  • Brian Brockett, Senior Sound Designer
  • Josh Smith, Senior Sound Designer
  • Matt Conway, Senior Sound Designer
  • Becky Ichnoski, Dialog Coordinator
  • Gina Bruno, Community Manager
  • Jessica Folsom, Community Manager

[New Player Guide] 10 Things I Wish I Knew

Posted: 02 Jan 2018 09:43 AM PST

I've been posting this in a few different "New Player Questions" posts, and realized that it might be easier for anyone who got the game recently if I just posted this in its own thread. This thread will remain up if anyone wants to save or link it. In any case, here are ten things I learned later that I wish I'd known on Day One of playing:

  • Spend your points. You can respec skill and attribute points at certain shrines for a moderate gold fee, so spend the points you get early. You want to be using skills in combat, and using light/heavy attacks only when out of resources, so the more the better (until your bar is full).

  • Find the Pack Merchant. This vendor allows you to increase your bag size for a gold fee that increases with each use. Also, you can buy more Bank space when at a Banker. This makes a huge difference early, when upgrades are cheap.

  • Get a horse, train its speed every day. Horses are bought and trained at the Stables in any major city. Once you get a horse, it can be used by all characters, and you'll hate yourself in large zones until you get one. Training is character-specific.

  • Turn on "Prevent Attacking Innocents." Just trust me on this one. Go to Options, then go to Gameplay. There's other handy stuff in there too, like auto-looting containers when opened and one-click AoE.

  • Join the Fighters', Mages', and Undaunted Guilds. These are NPC-run "guilds" that simply unlock new quests and skill lines with no other effects. You don't have to run any of the quests and can ignore them completely after if you'd like, but the attached skill lines can't be used until you've unlocked them. You can join them in Vivec City, Davon's Watch, Vulkehl Guard or Daggerfall, so find them when you get to one of those cities (Undaunted is not in Vivec City for some reason, just remember to grab it later).

  • Get a buff from a Mundus Stone when you find one in the wild. You can only have one buff, but it never wears off, so make sure you're running something there. These are the buffs you get from giant rocks with names like "The Lady" or "The Thief" on your map.

  • Use potions and food. Potions are a godsend in tough battles, so make sure you slot a health or resource potion for in-combat use. Food is everywhere, and the buffs it provides are actually pretty massive and last 30+ minutes, so eating food makes everything significantly easier.

  • Max Stamina increases Weapon Damage, Max Magicka increase Spell Damage (10 to 1 ratio). Because of this hidden buff, you'll want to focus on one or the other once you have enough skills to fill your bar with skills of the same type. You can go hybrid early without a problem and respec later, but you'll struggle as you approach max level if you're splitting your points across three attributes instead of just two.

  • Unless you're tanking, try to stay away from Sword-and-Shield and Heavy Armor. Using weapons and armor unlocks specific skills, but the skills for Sword-and-Shield and Heavy Armor are so focused on defense that you'll take forever to kill anything. Stick with dual-wield, two-handers, staves or bows to start with, though using a couple pieces of Heavy Armor won't kill you so long as you pair it with other types.

  • Navigators provide shortcuts to other zones. If you need to get to a zone you've never been to, check with the Navigator in any major city, usually by the docks or a caravan. They can transport you to Navigators in other zones, even if they're controlled by other alliances. You can also use the Social menu to teleport to anyone in your group, guild, or friends lists.

The rest you'll figure out by playing soon enough - these are just the parts that don't become obvious in time. Welcome to Tamriel, and have fun!

EDIT: Spelling.

EDIT 2: Clarified a couple of confusing bits.

Probably my most frustrating moment with the game yet, was likely a testament to a good thing

Posted: 02 Jan 2018 02:19 PM PST

Last night, I was doing some Dark Brotherhood content.
Trying to hunt down targets from the book of litany, and doing so without looking up any info about the targets online.

I was a huge fan of Hitman (2016), and it had an "elusive target" mode wherein you had to hunt down a target but you had no idea where they might be or what they might do, and sometimes you didn't know what they looked like, but you had to go find them and you only had one opportunity to do it. The Book of Litany contracts remind me of that, and I liked it.

But anyway, here I am, in a big city in Valenwood. After about half an hour of searching, I've found my target. I know her by her eye (end the "silver close to her heart" aka a necklace of knives).

I stalk her, following from a safe distance, not because I have to, but because it's better for RP.
I wait for her to step into a secluded place so i can sink my trusty blade of woe into her back without having to fight off a legion of guards.

She gets to a quiet corner, and I realize this is my moment. I haul ass to get close and capitalize on the situation, and suddenly it was over.

Another assassin, whose presence I had been entirely unaware of, suddenly jumped down from a ledge and reduced my target to ashes.

I literally shouted, "WHAT THE FUUUCK?!"
And suddenly it dawned on me just how absurd it was, that at that exact moment, someone was doing that exact quest, in that exact city in freaking Bumfuck Egypt (seriously, nobody hangs out in Valenwood) looking for the exact same target, and managed to track her down using nothing but the most vague description ever, and he found her at the exact same time I did, and somehow I never noticed him and beat me to the punch.
What are the odds of that?

This game's player base is damn huge lol

Tl;Dr, I wasted ~45 minutes trying to do an obscure quest in a far corner of the world because someone happened to be doing the same thing as me without me noticing lol

vMA finally!!

Posted: 02 Jan 2018 07:35 PM PST

Tonight I finally beat it. Damn was it hard. Got a powered resto staff so meh. I personally like the asylum resto more but I'll keep it as my spoils of war. Now to get better to farm it 50 times to get my lightning staves and bows. Either way, feels good to have finally done it!

[Media] ESO Tarot Card - The Empress

Posted: 03 Jan 2018 01:43 AM PST

Finally got my first character to level 50, and tanking is super fun.

Posted: 02 Jan 2018 11:56 AM PST

I took a little vacation over the holidays and, in addition to hanging out with my wife and visiting my mother, I got in some ESO time.

I finally got my first character to lvl 50, and then over the next two days got him to CP 100.

This allowed me to start doing dungeons, which are a freaking blast.

I main a DK tank and I love doing the daily pledges.

On my first day as a DK tank at about CP 50 I accidentally queued for a veteran dungeon and it was a success!

I love tanking (though I still wish there was an AoE taunt). It is also super nice to never wait more than a minute or two for a dungeon in the activity finder.

I just wanna thank the two people in vet Mazzatun today

Posted: 02 Jan 2018 08:08 AM PST

After 3 manning Mighty Chudan without a healer and no deaths, thank you for voting to kick me after I refused to immediately kick the cp400 before he even touched an enemy. And thank you for proceeding to kick me every single time I queue'd back into your group and eventually giving me the 15 min queue penalty.

Sorry, I just had to vent some frustration.

Is it just me or does anybody else feel like stamina builds are severely lacking in diversity?

What's your favorite past time activity in ESO?

I recently caught up on fishing and I'm really liking it so far! It's pretty relaxing, especially after an entire day of doing quests or dolmens.

Maths teacher looking to use eso for displays

Posted: 02 Jan 2018 07:03 AM PST

Not your usual post on here - but I teach maths and I'm hoping to put pictures up of different moves with their stats. Kids can then choose which moves to pick as their highest dps (Endless hail obvs)

I also want to do the same for healing but I've not played a healing character. (I don't think a tank stats one would be that good but correct me if you think it will work as a display)

If anyone wants to volunteer to make my life easier and make/provide a link for these pictures to use that would be amazing. I will post a photo of the display on here when it's finished. Let's let these kids know how helpful maths is to being successful in our magical world of nerd :)

[Discussion] ESO challenges

Posted: 03 Jan 2018 01:59 AM PST

I'm currently playing through the main storylines with my Breton on stream.

I was thinking of doing some challenges to break up the storyline streams, and just for a bit of fun. One thing I saw on this sub was how many mudcrabs you need to kill to get to level 50 ( https://www.reddit.com/r/elderscrollsonline/comments/223ujc/challenge_accepted ) and I'm thinking of doing that with the bucket and broom items in the Pay-to-lose crown sale a while ago.

Anyone have some challenge recommendations?

[Help] Item separation add-on

Posted: 03 Jan 2018 01:49 AM PST

Hey there! As the title suggests, I'd like to have an add-on that separates my items depending on their location (bag, bank).

The reason for this is, I am currently in a "hoarding" gear mode - so I DO NOT want to deconstruct any sets that I obtain (unless it's duplicate) - but the base game doesn't permit me to do this, because when I go in the deconstruction menu, it just lists ALL ITEMS I have, regardless if they're on the bank or in my bag.

Fortunately, I've realized this before I got to CP160.

So yeah, I'm sorry if my post wasn't clear - but I do believe an add-on like this exists, since I believe I've read someone mention it on this subreddit a few days ago.

Thanks!
