In addition, if you're new to following the game, this thread is your chance to ask questions and get help from veteran players.

[Discussion]"Story-Mode" in dungeons.

Posted: 14 Jan 2018 06:01 PM PST

I'm a new player to ESO (about 1-2 weeks old) and started doing dungeons lately. My only real complaint is that I can't really do the stories in them for several reason.

  1. Group is upset they're carrying me/I'm not pulling my weight.

2.Group doesn't mind carrying but runs off to do dungeon thus triggering the next phase before I'm done listening to the current one (It boots you from the current dialog.)

3.Group leaves while I'm finishing the quest thus booting me before I get the chance to complete/listen to everything.

As a big TES fan, lore and story is the biggest reason I'm playing this. It sucks that I miss chunks of dialog and endings to dungeon quests.

My suggestion is "Story-Mode." You get an option to solo the dungeon with easier mobs and no unique loot. The only reason to do this mode would be for the quest. No rush, no being booted before you finish.

Is there a way to efficiently report bot players? Sick of lagging because of this.

I can go on no longer...

Posted: 15 Jan 2018 04:08 AM PST

...without the Craft Bag.

I was a happy player once. content with just morrowind and no dlc or plus.

Then the free dlc week attacked.

Only the craft bag, master and prize of the plus could hold me.

but when I needed it most. it vanished.

NOW I HAVE TASTED PLUS. and now I'm going to a bank to top-up my visa to buy a subscription...

good job zenimax. your free week worked...

If these ancient dudes didn't want me to steal everything then why did they put so many lock picks in the urns?

Being a healer is making me age faster.

Posted: 14 Jan 2018 07:45 PM PST

I just gotta vent about this. I'm either noticing dumb things other group members are doing that are making my job harder or I'm just in a legitimately tough situation where I have to use all of my focus to keep everyone alive. Even if other people aren't doing their job right, it's easy for people to assume the healer is doing a poor job when they wipe.

I seriously end some dungeons with my face getting super hot or my heart beating faster. It really stresses me out, but it's incredibly rewarding at the same time.

I've been kind of thinking it would be nice to have an alt with a role that is a little more chill. Do you guys think Tank or DPS is less stressful? I don't have much experience with either but I feel like Tank might be the way to go. Keep your rotation, stand still, block some attacks.

Thoughts? Are there any other healers who bug out when they play? This is my first time playing as a healer in an mmo :p

Edit: I mostly am curious what's most chill in pve, but I would be interested to hear about pvp as well.

PSA to Players New to Veteran Group Dungeons

Posted: 14 Jan 2018 09:38 AM PST

My last PSA was a hit and I'm back with another one. Lol.

Usually in the room of the last boss of a dungeon, there is a scroll. THIS SCROLL ACTIVATES HARD MODE. Typically there isn't much reason to do hard mode unless it's an Undaunted Pledge in which you'll receive an extra key.

But for most dungeons, if you're just farming a helmet or just running random group dungeons, it's probably not worth hitting that scroll. Especially if your pug is barely making it through the dungeon anyway.

PTS - Looks like Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood anniversary events are coming

Posted: 14 Jan 2018 10:07 AM PST

Judging by my adventures in both Hew's Bane and The Gold Coast on the PTS, there will be anniversary events this year for both Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood. Quests in both zones that offer reward coffers are giving out two boxes instead of just one. Crafting nodes have double yields in both zones as well. These are hallmarks of past anniversary events for DLC zones. I'm guessing the Thieves Guild event will be in March and the Dark Brotherhood event will be in May. The Jester's Festival will likely occur again (probably in February) and the ESO anniversary event is also on tap, probably in April, and it will drop the new Worm Cult motif. There is a new achievement for the Worm Cult motif that states it drops from anniversary boxes.

Vet tempest island end boss

Posted: 15 Jan 2018 02:20 AM PST

So I did a my random vet dungeon yesterday and ended up on tempest island. We did fine till it came to the endboss. What am I supposed to do as a tank I had my taunt active the whole time, applying debuffs and buffs. But my team still ended up dying alot, was no biggie just activated Magma shell and rezed them. But the fight went not as smooth as I hoped, so what am I supposed to do?

Is it in a group's best interest to stack relatively close?

Posted: 14 Jan 2018 10:28 PM PST

As a healer, I struggle the most when my bow user/magic user hangs incredibly far back. I also have a hard time buffing everyone when the group isn't stacked close enough for my spells to hit. Most of my healing spells auto-target in front of me, so I assume stacking is almost a must in this game. But I'm seeing a lot of groups not stack at all, so am I just healing incorrectly? Is there a reason for not stacking?

Sinmur Starting Quest?

Posted: 15 Jan 2018 04:09 AM PST

I just finished up Stonefalls and decided to go north into The Rift, mostly because of Skyrim nostalgia. The very first place I visit has some NPCs talking about a shard of Wuuthrad. I figure I'm doing something out of order, so I decided to leave that alone for the moment and head a little bit west.

I immediately run into some Skald King who wants me to help him beat some giant named Sinmur. I have no idea who this is, or why everyone is acting like I should already know. But I say YOLO and kill the giant. So, my questions are:

1) Where was this quest supposed to actually start? I came straight from Stonefalls, so it's not like I wandered far.

2) Have I broken anything permanently, like preventing myself from taking any of the prior quests?

3) Are there any other zones that are quest sequence traps like this one? Like, zones I should avoid until later for reasons?

Hi guys, not played the game in a couple of years or so - feel like returning. Can't remember which but I only have one of the old DLCs. Is it worth returning without the new dlc etc?

[PC] First time player, choosing a class with my playstyle.

Posted: 15 Jan 2018 02:42 AM PST

Hello everyone, I recently talked my cousin into trying eso and right atm I'm trying to pick a class to play.

Eso seem quite complicated in term of making a character right for you because there are a lot of variables and options. I have looked on the forum on old Reddit posts but I just got more confused from magicka and stamina conversations and the idea that any class can play anything.

I personally have alway like to play a tankier character with skills that lean toward surviability, cc, or nagating opponent skills. I don't like to fight by spamming all skills to do the most damage and wait for them to come back, I rather have skills that are used at specific time to counter or negate an opponent win condition instead, healing/cc/invi-frames are some of the mechanics I'm used to.

I like to approach a fight by thinking how to prevent the opponent from winning rather than how I can win. The fight usual go as my opponent put up their question and I put up the answer. When I lose it is because I didn't have the answer to their win conditions. When I do win it is by grinding against the opponent resources, answering most of what they put up until they run out of win conditions and are exhausted of resources. I don't like glass cannons that decide win or lose within the first 20 seconds. Usually my type of character perform better in atleast a small group than solo as my own win condition is weak and the opponent could run away before I can win, but it is fine as I play to prevent them from killing me rather than killing them.

Some other games example to show my play style: in wow paladin would be my choice of class and in hearthstone I play control warrior; in DnD my favorite character is 4e semitank warlord and in gw2 I play unkillable guardian.

Melee or range doesn't matter too much, and while I prefer magic as I like the battlemage archetype, stamina would be fine as well.

Thank you for reading this far, if you have any suggestions I would be most thankful.

Edit: a bit more details.
