Okay. I finally get it.

Posted: 02 Jan 2018 06:38 AM PST

Today, I finally got a rational, logical answer to the question..."Why do you spend so much time complaining about a game you don't like?"

It's a question posed about a million times every day in topics across this sub, and never once has an salty Guardian given it an actual answer, resorting to the typical namecalling "fanboys", "shills", etc.

But over on /r/lowsodiumdestiny which I mod for, a user named /u/lordnednoodle made this comparison, and suddenly a light bulb came on in my head.

In comparison. If your local sports team does something you don't like do you just support other teams or do you complain until they fix it?

Some hindsight here, I'm a native New Yorker and a diehard Knicks fan...so yeah, I know a little something about enduring painfully frustrating experiences. For the better part of the post-Patrick Ewing era, there's been nothing but bad deals, poor personnel choices...and Isiah Thomas as GM. Ugh.

Tumultuous season after season, I never thought once about jumping ship to a better team to root for though. The Knicks are my team. I grew up rooting for them, and I always will...and complain every year they don't live up to their potential (luckily the post-Melo Knicks are looking promising).

So convert the Knicks to Destiny...and now I totally get it. This is the team that we all want to be the next "dynasty" of gaming, much like Mass Effect was for the previous generation of gaming, and Halo was for the generation before that. Given that Halo was a dynasty, we know what Bungie are capable of (even if it's not the Bungie of old), but you're frustrated that they aren't living up to that potential, so you clamor on for them to get things in order. You don't abandon it because you want to see this whole thing succeed, and you want to be a part of that. Same with me and the Knicks. I wanna see them win a chip before I die. We all wanna see Destiny go down as one of the greatest game franchises ever.

Will either happen? Who knows? But we stick through it in hopes that they will see it happen, enduring disappointment and frustration the whole way through until it does at least get better. When that frustration escalates to the point of wanton rage and splintering "with us or against us" attitudes is another story, but at least now I can finally see the grass on the other of the fence.

Personally, I'm confident Bungie will get D2 into a shape of game that everyone will enjoy. Just because I identify as a "salt free" Guardian doesn't mean I don't think the game is without fault or need of improvement. Continue holding the creators accountable and offering constructive feedback, and it's only a matter of time before we're all back on a winning team again.

EDIT: No, the point of this topic wasn't to plug another sub...but that sub exists for a reason. The community has successfully splintered itself, and in order to get back to being a cohesive, creative force again, we need to look objective at the other side of the fence as I said before. We do allow these kind of "controversial" topics to exist on the sub I mod, so long as they don't escalate to insult slinging at the notion of differences in opinion, to which this exact statement I mused over in this post stems from. We can reach a common ground here. We all love this game...accept the fact that some people out there may love it more or less right now than you do, and try to understand why that is. Or, continue to be combative, territorial and unwelcoming. The choice is yours. HAPPY RESET DAY!

If you're already upset with the lack of kinetic ammo...don't bother using the Crimson.

Posted: 02 Jan 2018 07:20 AM PST

Fun hand cannon with a great exotic feel...with the worst ammo capacity issues I've ever seen in D1 or D2. It's not overpowered (in fact it's a bit under-powered), so Bungie could stand to increase its ammo by 50% or more.

EDIT: Just noticed it was my cake day. Sheesh...8 years flew by.

EDIT 2: Yes, I see the many comments about it giving you free ammo on headshot kills. I've used the Crimson. I know this perk is a thing. The issue with that is the Crimson hits for less than other HC's and because it bursts, headshots aren't as easy (I'm on console as well). I know it requires you to slow down a bit. The fact still remains that I feel the ammo reserve is too small, regardless of the perk. I shouldn't be relegated to only using my kinetic on trash mobs.

Here is my LEGO replica of D.A.R.C.I.

Posted: 02 Jan 2018 10:26 AM PST

Is DARCI a good weapon? Eh, not really. Does DARCI look badass? Hell yeah it does. So I built a LEGO version. Scope lights up, trigger moves, charging handle slides, and mag is removable. 43" long, weighs 9 pounds, and it holds together rather well without any glue.

Raiding is fun all the way up until the loot drops.

Posted: 02 Jan 2018 07:32 AM PST

Me and my raid team push through all raid content every week. We love the raids, they have fun mechanics, they are moderately challenging, and perfecting strategies and such is extremely fun.

But every time the chests open, its duplicates, instant sharded duplicates. Though not because im unlucky, but because i already have every drop from the raid in my vault.

I know we are not the majority of the player base, and alot of people dont experience this problem.

But! Adding a couple of exclusive guns will not fix the replay value for the raids. Inevitably, the new guns will be also be duplicates.

Rerunning raids for shaders ends up being one of the only incentive to raid at this point. And that is NOT a good incentive :P

Almost feels like i've 100%'ed Destiny 2...

Edit Added two words.

If you're interested, d1 nightfall is awesome this week

Posted: 02 Jan 2018 07:36 AM PST

Winters Run this week, which I never get for whatever reason during the strike playlist.

Don't let Berserk, Match Game and Specialist fool you. It's also Solar Burn and Daybreak.

Hunters can get constant one shots with golden gun, warlocks can get solar grenades everywhere and constantly self rez, Hammer Titans can get unlimited health pretty much.

Even if you don't like the strike, I'd recommend going back and playing it.

D1 Roll Alert: FWC Vendor is selling handcannon with HCR, Outlaw, and Firefly

If you're still chasing that D1 god-roll PVE handcannon (non Fatebringer division), head on over to FWC and pick up a really beauty. The Wail is a Tier 1 handcannon and it's tough to beat that combination of perks

Can we PLEASE reverse the nerf to airborne shoulder charge?

Posted: 01 Jan 2018 08:52 PM PST

Was anyone complaining about this? I really don't see why they did this, it just made the top tree less satisfying for every subclass.

Edit: I've seen a lot of responses saying this was to prevent pushing people off heavy ammo. I could understand if that was actually the case but only the in air movement was nerfed. Ground charge still works fine for shoving teammates.

When people rarely use the bubble shield

Posted: 02 Jan 2018 12:21 AM PST

As a solo player, I’ve been playing this like an RPG and I’ve been having a blast acting as the “wandering hero” type of guardian. (Fun stories)

Posted: 02 Jan 2018 01:44 AM PST

I've found it pretty fun to traverse the sol with my hunter and my trusty Gentleman Vagabond sniper. I've been tailing some new/low level guardians and picking off some enemies that creep behind them. I found it hilarious when I see them turn around and just look all over the place like "what was that? Wtf just happened?" Feels great to be that "guardian angel" type.

My warlock is the healer. I try to run directly at a person and drop a rift on the spot. I'm constantly on revive duty in public events. I love giving everyone those cute lil arc souls too!

My Titan? The Leroy Jenkins. Striker obviously. Spray and pray auto rifles and sweet sweet business. He literally holds all my rocket launchers. He doesn't like sharing the good guns. Currently in training to become Captain America (once I find a good outfit for him with void mods). Always in front of the pack leading the charge!

It's fun to give a personality to your characters. Role-playing is great if you have an active imagination.

For the dawning, I logged in every day. I completed every gift. I completed both weekly quests. And many fireteam members used their dawning boons. For it, I received 11 sparrows, 4 ships, countless shaders and 1 piece of armor.

Posted: 01 Jan 2018 05:40 PM PST

So that's it? If I want the entire dawning gear set I need to spend real money? I completed every single quest you gave for the dawning. I spent countless hours pretending it was D1 and gathered mats off the planets. Your players deserve to get the gearset for the event they're doing if they complete the entire questline you've given for that event.

edit: To the few commenters that don't seem to understand the point of this post and claim "Well, that's RNG for you!". I'm fine with RNG. I'm not fine with there being a finite amount of grinding that can be done. I can't spend hours upon hours grinding out things to try to get the gear. You are given a limited amount of shots at the gear for free, then when you use all of your free engrams you have to spend money. That's it. That's the problem.

Arms Dealer strike strat - climbing the elevator chain to spawn Bracus Zahn early

Posted: 02 Jan 2018 10:05 AM PST

On the topic of strike strats/skips, here's one for The Arms Dealer!

Gfy mirror, courtesy of /u/Mblim771_Kyle

Basically, if you climb the elevator chain, you being up there so early makes him spawn quicker. It's not really useful except if you're going for a quick kill but it's still fun to do.

Was Eris Morn Ascended?

Posted: 02 Jan 2018 06:00 AM PST

At the end of TTK there was a cutscene where Eris is in the place where we kill Oryx. To get there, we had to become Ascended, so Eris would have to be as well. It seems that Eris is talking to Mara Sov when she says "my queen", but this detail leads me to a more sinister conclusion. Could she be talking to Savathûn? Savathûn has been heavily hinted at being important in the future.

Almost four months in, and D2 has had so many controversies make headlines it's ridiculous.

Posted: 01 Jan 2018 02:13 PM PST

Since D2's release, it has always been in the eye of gaming news sites, YouTubers, and the like, but for so many wrong reasons. There have been so many issues put in the spot like by us, gaming news sites, Bungie.net forums, YouTubers, etc, it's shocking.

  • Right out the gate, we had the shader controversy. Once free-to-use and unlimited use, shaders are now one-time-use consumables. This, and coupled with the fact that many shaders are hidden behind Eververse, makes matters worse.

  • Then there was the cracking down of the endgame, or lack there of. This started to pop up about a month after D2's release, and matters only got worse once the "friendgame' meme became a thing.

  • Although minor, the PC release was suspect to some controversies, with players being banned right out of the gate. Some warranted, some not, it was really all up-in-the-air.

  • Then there was the XP throttling discovery, where players were gaining less and less when playing for extended periods of time, punishing them for grinding. Granted, Bungie fixed this, but not without doubling the required experience required to reach another Bright Engram.

  • Then Curse of Osiris came out, and was considered a disappointment by the community and news sites alike. Bad writing, lack-luster campaign, lack of good content, and infinite missed potential.

  • Then there came the discovery that players were being locked out of previously available content if they lacked CoO. Including Prestige difficulty, Faction Rallies, Iron Banner, Achievements/Trophies, and more.

  • There was also that "Senior Progression Designer" job advertisements, which revolved around D2's progression system and the monetization of it with Eververse.

  • Speaking of Eververse, people have done the math regarding the monetary worth of Bright Dust, Bright Engrams, and the like. Calculating how an Exotic Sparrow can cost a few bucks, to several hundred depending on worth. Plus the thousands of dollars you'd have to spend, or millions of exp you'd have to grind, for enough loot boxes to get everything from those loot boxes.

  • Now, the Dawning is going to be wrapping up soon, and it has only amplified many of the issues previously stated. Shaders are stacking in different stacks, still one-time-use, and are only available for a limited time through Eververse. Or the fact that practically everything is hidden away behind Eververse.

Bungie, so much has gone wrong in such little time with you as a company, and D2 as a game. We're tired of hearing "We're listening", because it seems like we're being listened to with a deaf ear. It's a new year, please, Bungie, make this game what it can be! None of us want to see Destiny die.

Give us more, make it random, and make it worth it.

Posted: 02 Jan 2018 05:49 AM PST

Give Us More: Ive started playing the division lately, and this game literally just shits loot. Once you get to end game and find 4 collectable items in the world, you get a loot cache with gear. Think about if you had to just find 4 dead ghosts and that resulted in a loot cache? How great would that be? Im almost overwhelmed by all the loot I get in that game, and thats a better feeling than having no loot. Destiny feels like its pulling teeth to get loot. It feels like the game is almost afraid of giving us gear.

Some realistic changes bungie could make: go back to the old Weapon or gear caches at vendors when you faction rank. maybe give us an actual engram instead of eververse stuff when we level. They also DONT have to give us the highest light gear here. make it 250 for all i care, and then make drops of 300+ in end game content like raids and nightfalls. That gives me a reason to play those so I can bring these drops forward.

make it random: part of what makes loot boring is i see a gun i know what I am getting. I dont have the excitement of getting a good weapon, then opening it up to see the roll waiting for me. Every gun is the same. Not all legendaries need to be random. I like the idea of hunting legendary guns like we have in this game (example: mini tool) and it makes more sense for them to be static.

make it worth it: Masterworks showed me, if anything, its not a fix to the problem. the orb generation on multikills should be the kind of perk these guns have as a random roll. Give us real decisions to make in our gear. Masterworks in the end just creates more of a gun bottleneck. Like honestly i bet most masterworks primaries are Better Devils, Origin Story & Uriels Gift. It makes loot feel worse because there is no reason to ever use or try different guns. Kill masterworks and make it a gun perk that is random and can drop as a talent on the gun. While we are at it, gun mods should be the random modification that you are applying to guns now in the means of masterworks.

I'd love to know what the Vanguard's helmets look like

Posted: 02 Jan 2018 08:17 AM PST

We have NPCs that always wear helmets, like Lord Shaxx. NPCs that sometimes wear their helmet, like Lord Saladin. But when it comes to the Vanguard, they never wear their helmets, even in battle (as evidenced by the assault on the Last City in D2's campaign). I'd love to know what they looked like.

Also, how would Cayde even get a helmet on with that god damn horn on his head?

Destiny 1 still worth playing?

Posted: 02 Jan 2018 09:31 AM PST

Given that online games are always in flux, I waited on getting into Destiny when I heard that some sizeable percentage of the single-player was only possible with coordinated groups of players, which really isn't an option for me.

With all of Bungie's efforts on D2, do you guys consider it a worthwhile effort to get into the original game?

Posted: 01 Jan 2018 06:38 PM PST

It was fun grinding for strike specific armor and guns, but now I do it just for the tokens. Hell I'd even take strike specific ornaments. Right now I feel like strikes aren't really worth the effort.

  • Completing 5 Strikes - 1 Dawning Engram + a random ghost shell/sparrow/ship + 3 dawning shaders

  • Level up during event = 1 Dawning Engram

  • Shaders are from the same loot pool and break down into bright dust

  • Complete all the gifts on your account - Rewarded with Exotic emote - "Giving"

(No other changes - the rest worked ok)

Sentinel: The choice between 2 Supers

Posted: 02 Jan 2018 06:23 AM PST

I know Bubble is very niche and isn't used often, if ever, but I truly love the idea of having the option between two different supers.

I'm usually just going into Captain America mode and going offensive but there have been times I've popped the bubble for fun. In public events like Glimmer Extraction and the Hive one in Titan. In a strike against Genesis Mind when adds are overwhelming the team and there's no cover. In mayhem, I like to grab heavy ammo with my Acrius or Perfect Paradox and wait for people to challenge. Or in PVP, I was playing survival. My first super, I went all Captain America for kills but popped a bubble the second time to capture the zone when we went into overtime to win the match.

Like I said, I know bubble is near useless right now. I won't be using sentinel over my striker in the raid but the idea and concept of having a second option is just so nice.

It makes me wonder if Bungie will ever expand on that to the other subclasses and other characters.

[Destiny 2 Concept] Team Vehicle - The Osprey

Posted: 02 Jan 2018 12:07 PM PST

Introduction

I've recently seen some posts here where other Guardians have mocked up some cool ideas they had. I felt inspired to do the same. It's been a while since I touched any 3D and I really want to get back into it so I figured now's a good a time as any.

For a game that puts so much emphasis on teamwork and fireteam mechanics, Destiny sure lacks on ways for fireteams to travel together. Some of my fondest memories of playing games with friends comes from the Halo series. The ones that really stuck with me were all the fun-ass times I'd stroll up to an enemy base in a Warthog, my buddy would get out and grab their flag, and we'd make a speedy escape as the enemy team tries to catch us in their Warthog. Or pushing our way through enemy forces in story mode with endless turret fire and splatter kills. SO. MUCH. FUN! Destiny needs it's Warthog (and ideally a Capture the Flag mode with large vehicle maps) so, I decided to mock up a team vehicle myself. I call it...

The Osprey

My intent was to create a large sparrow-esque vehicle but it ended up looking like a pregnant speedboat. The idea is simple - a light mobile team vehicle that holds 3 and allows users to engage enemies with turret fire and or passenger support fire. Now, let's take a look at the damn thing!

Mock Up

Front a.k.a. Fat Kid wearing a scuba mask

Front Profile

Side

Back Profile

Interior

Turret

Size Comparison

The Front

In the front, you'll notice a small cylinder tucked away in a crevice. That's the power core for the vehicle. If you see this thing coming at you a spider monkey all jacked up on Mountain Dew and you can keep your shit together long enough to use the Force, you can deal massive damage to this thing, taking out the enemy team behind the wheel.

The Side

Under the turret you can see a round disc-shaped object. That's the anti-gravity engine. That's how this half-ton metal beast stays light on it's feet and doesn't crawl around like a lethargic grizzly bear at an all you can eat buffet. The overall shape of the Osprey almost made me call it the Mako but that having a land vehicle named after an aquatic animal makes about as much sense as Destiny 1's story.

The Back

You can see the 3 thrusters in the back which give this thing pretty decent speed for it's size. Not as fast as a sparrow but not as slow as a Drake (tank). Hand rails line the back so would-be action heroes can hold on when things get too bumpy.

The Interior

Nothing really going on here. I imagine if I had fleshed this out more there would be some cool displays and gauges and shit. Maybe a cup holder or 2... Passenger side gets a hand rail so they don't go flying out when the driver makes a sharp turn. Had to cut back on the seat belts. Resources are stretched thin after all.

The Turret

What happens when you combine the intense fire of Bracus Zahn's flame turrets with the deadly stopping power of a cruise missile?! I don't know but it sounds awesome! This doesn't have that though. It's got a Destiny machine gun / 4th Horseman inspired turret attached to a rotating 360º base. I hope to God this thing doesn't need power ammo to work...

Size

It's about the length of 2 and a half sparrows from stem to stern and about as wide as the widest part of an interceptor.

I thought about applying some textures and a background image of the EDZ but I'm using a new program and I still haven't learned everything yet. Maybe one day, Destiny will add some team vehicles so me and my fireteam can tear shit up like back in the day. Here's hoping. Cheers.

I would rather get significantly less loot than this constant stream of trash.

Posted: 02 Jan 2018 12:50 PM PST

Everything is shard fodder, I don't even look at gear anymore. After the initial meta drops you get, and the one or two exotics for your class choice that are worth it, everything else is padding. I have never played a shooter before with so many useless guns.

Nothing is unique, armor is cosmetic at best, the 3 stats make very little difference in play style. I would rather have a gun pool the size of the current exotic pool if all of them felt drastically different and all affected how you play instead of 200+ trash purples...
