What ever happened to Mango's Marth? Posted: 30 Nov 2017 10:48 AM PST Admittedly, I've been out of the loop for a while, but I remember last year at Pound after Mango brought out the Marth against Hax, he was talking about dropping Falco for the Marth secondary. Obviously that never happened and Mango has had some crazy results in 2017 with Falco, but whatever happened to the Marth dream? We announced yesterday on Twitter our new opt-in system for Frosbite 2018: Heroes & Legends. We are taking a dramatic turn from the previously successful Twitter nomination opt-ins. Instead of having players who are the most popular making it in, a panel of Frostbite core staff members will review every application and decide who best fits the themes of Frostbite. Legends are players who have been to a Frostbite before, are important to its history, and need a little help getting there in 2018. These are players who have made Frostbite what it is and we want to make sure we give these players every opportunity to come back. Heroes are players who have never been to a Frostbite before and want an opportunity to attend. Heroes may be completely unknown players looking for their breakout tournament or well-known players who want to come to the midwest to test against our best. Who is the ideal Frostbite Hero & Legends candidate? Frostbite has always been the event where masters of low tier and underrepresented characters come to prove themselves. We have low tier side events as well as special pot bonuses made to encourage players to come out and show the world what they can do. If you main an underrepresented character in the meta or if you are from a region that does not get very many chances to come to majors in North America, we want you to come to Frostbite. We want to continue the tradition of hidden bosses from underestimated regions armed with characters infrequently seen at the top levels to shake things up again next year. When is it time to give up on smash? Posted: 30 Nov 2017 03:15 AM PST I've been playing Melee for a couple months now, and I'm realizing that I am just not able to play the game. A friend of mine and I both started a couple months ago, with me actually getting him into the game. Now, he already pretty consistently takes a set at the locals and has close games with some of the decent players, while I have taken one game total in all tournaments. When we first started we were probably about evenly matched, but now I lose pretty much 100% of the time. I just can't seem to improve in any aspect of the game, whether it's adapting, mental game, or anything else, while it just seems to come naturally to everyone else, like my friend. I love this game, it's definitely my favorite, and it is fun a lot of the time, but it's getting incredibly frustrating to not be able to understand or improve in smash while everyone else gets better, and I'm starting to think that I should give up the game and do more productive things with my time. When is it time to just accept that I'm just no good at smash and give up? Edit: I fell asleep after posting this and woke up to 50 people offering advice. Thank you all so much! I also do have one specific situation I can't figure out: what do I do to prevent Marth's recovery if he is below the stage? On the other side of this: what are the best ways to recover safely?
