Street Fighter A detailed look at the Fight Money Situation

A detailed look at the Fight Money Situation

Posted: 15 Dec 2017 02:24 AM PST

With Capcoms recent announcement to change the way fight money is earned I figured we could take a look at what this means in numbers. Just so we know if we should get our pitchforks out or not.

The Current Situation

Some time ago I tried to find out how much Fight Money we can reasonably earn. With each character I figured I (and probably most of you) could finish the Trial, Story, view the characters demo and at least beat easy and normal Survival mode. Via my calculation this would mean we are at 29500 FM per character. Someone who buys SFV today will also be able to finish Story Mode (and Story Mode extra) and look at the general demos for a total of 83000 FM. There are also the weekly Missions. These vary in what we get out of it but I guess we can generally agree that saying roughly 300000 a year is a fair assessment. If you really grind it out (and there is not much grinding in the first place) you can easily do the 300k a year.

I made a nice little chart with all of the above. The question now really is:

Do you think that someone who buys Arcade Edition next year should also get all of Season 3 characters for free?

Because that is what it really boils down to. People who bought SFV before Arcade Edition have probably already spent their fight money. In fact, we would have to acquire the season 1 & 2 characters in a certain way. If things stay the way they are now newcomers will get a whooping 909000 FM for all of the above netting them all of the Season 3 characters as well as half of Season 4. Worse, as Capcom was not able to stop people on PC using trainers, those people can easily rack up another 1120000 by grinding out survival on hard and extreme and now we are at all characters from Season 3 to 5. That's not bad for $39,99.

I must admit that I am a bit biased here, because I am a software developer. People do not really like paying for software. I figure it might have something to do with it not being something you can not physically touch (well at least if you play on steam a lot like me). Spending $50 on a night out is no problem, but paying $1 for a useful app is highway robbery. I regularly deal with customers who don't want to understand that we programmers have to be paid as well and yeah, that god forbid we also don't program stuff for altruistic reasons and want to have some profits as well.

Same is true for SFV. Capcom wants to keep this game alive for several years so somehow they have to pay the people on the payroll and I figure this means they have to sell their season passes (and Chun-Li costumes). For me personally, I have no problem buying the season passes and occasional costume. I have been playing Street Fighter for nearly 30 years now. I don't have that much time to play anymore but nowadays paying some dollar for DLC for one of the only games I play is not that much of a problem as compared to say 1992 where you would have to get your stuff via presents. So....

And here I feel is the point where Capcom fucked up

And it is as usual communication. I took a look at the current fight money situation as well and I come to the following conclusion. Doing the routine stuff for every character we will be able to earn 19000 FM via Exp alone. For all characters we are now at 532000. If they still let us do the missions we can still easily earn 300000 FM on a yearly basis as well. So if you start with Arcade Edition and keep up the grind you can still get all of the Season 3 Characters for "free". And if I remember correctly this is the same situation we were at back in Season 1. You wouldn't be able to get all of them via the basic stuff but if you keep at it you would. That doesn't sound too bad to me.

Nifty Chart.

On top of that, we don't know if we get Exp via the Arcade Mode. All I heard was Ending Pictures. There is also the fight against the golden Shadaloo Fighter that happens every couple of weeks that should net you a nice sum of FM as well but yeah, we do not know much details here, which is the core stupidity behind this announcement.

Losing ways to earn fight money is always a bitter pill to swallow. The way things turn out, it might be fair. Early adopters had additional ways to earn FM for the S1 & S2 characters, and newcomers get the S1 & S2 stuff for a cheaper price and stuff seems to be comparable grindy to Season 1 (if my memory is correct). It is still a touchy subject which is why I would hope there is more communication from big C. I like many others for instance want more fight money for ranked wins. Looking at the way Arcade Mode is shaping up it seems they are trying to push SF in a direction of having a Stage per Character. So there might be more stages to spent our FM on. So yeah, it would be pretty nice to see the complete tally because yeah, when we find out that there is barely and fight money on Jan 16th this might turn off people from buying Arcade Edition which is something nobody could really want.

Pitchforkes?

I'd say we should make some noise and demand some answers and see if things are at least fair.

The SFV Season isn't over! Zowie Fighter World finals ft Moke, Tachikawa, Infexious, Mr Crimson, Shine, NL...

What's up /r/streetfighter !

I'm posting today to give you some details about a tournament coming tomorrow (or today depending on your time zone!)

The Zowie Fighter world final is taking place tomorrow, Saturday 16 December, in Taipei, Taiwan. For those who haven't followed the Zowie circuit, you could consider it an "alternate Capcom Pro Tour" that ran throughout the year in Europe, USA and Asia, to qualify a total of 16 players for the finals. The total prize pool is $35,000 and a couple of names you definitely know will be there to compete!

First of all, here is the stream schedule for the event. There will be two streams for the event:

Along with the finals there is a 3v3 tournament open to everyone there - the English stream will take a break for the 3v3 finals which will only be on the Chinese stream (we'll host the stream to make it easier for you guys!)

Schedule:

Stage Taiwan time UK time EC time WC time
Bracket draw and introduction 11:30 AM 3:30 AM Friday 10:30 PM Fri 7:30 PM
Top 16 -> 8 (BO3) 12:00 AM 4:00 AM Friday 11:00 PM Fri 8:00 PM
3v3 finals (only on Chinese stream) 5:00 PM 9:00 AM 6:00 AM 3:00 AM
TOP 8 (BO5) 6:00 PM 10:00 AM 7:00 AM 4:00 AM

And last but not least, here are the 16 qualified players!

  • 🇹🇼 Brook|WildTaiwanese
  • 🇭🇰 Carzydog
  • 🇨🇳 FightClub|UD
  • 🇺🇸 Joe Shyne (replaces NuckleDu who unfortunately can't attend, much love to him <3 )
  • 🇺🇸 Pnoy

The bracket will be drawn live at the beginning of the tournament, so no seeding whatsoever! I'll share the link when I can

See you all on the stream tonight/tomorrow!

PSA: From January 16th you will no longer obtain one-off Fight money from completing Character Stories, the General Story , Trials, Survival, and Demonstrations etc

Posted: 14 Dec 2017 05:24 PM PST

This text is from the latest Capcom Unity blog, but probably worth highlighting separately as it is quite a large change

http://www.capcom-unity.com/strumslinger/blog/2017/12/14/sfv-arcade-edition-extra-battle-mode-details-and-changes-in-earning-fight-money

Beginning January 16, modes that offered one-time finite batches of Fight Money will no longer do so. This includes Character Stories, the General Story (A Shadow Falls), Trials, Survival, and Demonstrations – if you haven't completed these modes yet, there's still a few weeks left to do so before the changes occur in January!

If you're a new player worried about getting enough Fight Money to get the Crossover Costumes, you still gain experience points from all modes except for the General Story. You receive Fight Money each time a character gains a level, and playing through each Character Story is a great way to quickly gain experience points for each character. Do this for all 28 characters and you'll be the proud owner of at least 200,000 Fight Money. Combine this amount with Fight Money earned through online battles and recurring Targets and you'll have plenty to use for Extra Battle Mode, additional characters and costumes!

Edit* to clarify, ranking up your character / winning matches in ranked will still result in fight money, only one-off fight money rewards are affected by this change

Some missing context between the JP and ENG pages with the FM situation.

"Capcom USA and Capcom Japan not on the same page on this.

Missing context from the USA blogpost-

Up to now, the method of obtaining FM was available by evenly clearing various contents, but partial contents such as survival and trial have a high degree of difficulty, and a beginner player has strict specifications and It was getting. After the update planned to be carried out on January 17, play content that is repeatedly delivered, such as a clearing of the target or an extra battle, mainly not a FM acquisition means which is acquired at one time, such as a story trial / demonstration of all characters By doing so you will be able to acquire FM. Even those who have already cleared various contents until now will have more opportunities to acquire FM.

Bullet points that got left out of the US blogpost

Trials and Survival were too hard for a lot of players. While the FM was "available", they couldn't earn it. (No argument there) There will be more FM made available through EX Battle, Weekly Missions, etc. than there currently is under the current setup. They want to move all FM earnings to be achieved by playing Arcade/VS mode (via EXP) and through weekly/monthly quests and events.

Which is of course reasonable, IF they put enough FM in the system. I understand that they want players to earn FM with the fun stuff, not grinding Survival or Trials for hours. However, taking the clear bonuses out of Story Mode still seems very silly, as it's actually very little FM in the grand scope of things. (Only a 2K bonus per character, and 80K for both difficulties of Story Mode.)

I don't know how accurate that is but thought it was worth mentioning.

Total cost for new players to purchase all 14 DLC stages will be £38.26 or 820,000 fight money

Posted: 15 Dec 2017 08:19 AM PST

Something I haven't seen many people mention regarding Arcade Mode is Stages. there has been no mention of free stages being included in Arcade Edition, so we have to presume there will be no free stages included.

There are 10 premium stages in the shop currently and 4 alternate stages, for new players, the total cost to purchase all stages is either £38.26 or 820,000 in fight money.

Given what we know now about the fight money changes, this could result in a rough time for new players..

Hard/Extreme survival strategy guide

Posted: 15 Dec 2017 08:40 AM PST

With the announcement of survival mode not giving FM after AE drops, the clock is ticking to get any and all cash as we can get. Unfortunately survival at these levels are not easy and at the extreme level nearly not worth it.

FORTUNATELY There are some cheap tactics you can use to get yourself through survival (the mode isn't fair so why should you be?) This is only for some characters who I've completed hard/extreme survival with (8 in total) and if anyone knows strats for other characters i don't mention please leave a comment below.

General strategy: MEATY MADNESS

The AI has a tough time dealing with meaties after you knock them down. I've had lot's of luck doing jump-in meaties for big damage and since the AI will occasionally drop its guard keep your combo going even if they're blocking, rarely the AI will optimally punish you and it's worth getting the chance at a KD or just some grey health. Also keep in mind the AI also has issues with cross-ups and are prone to getting hit by them.

CAUTION In the later stages the AI will EX DP you on their wakeup at times, and even DP your jump in's. I've lost late game survival to this and the best thing is to play it safe if you're low on health and go for a neutral game with long reaching confirms.

General strategy: ZONING

If you're a zoning character like guile or FANG, or even have a fireball in general, spamming projectiles tallies up good damage since they'll get hit quite often by them. It's not very fun but it can get the job done.

General strategy: SUPPLEMENTS

My system for supplement priority typically goes (Health > Attack > Defense). If you drop below 60% health it's good to heal up, otherwise keep riding the attack supps and the occasional defense when you get to the later stages.

CHARACTER

  • Bison

Headstomps are your friend and you'll need them to cheese out the AI. My go-to technique is to go for a regular headstomp then before going for the Skulldriver follow up to "shimmy" a crossup while you're in the air to make whatever AA attempt they do miss. In my experience Birdie and Chun can make this difficult but keep doing it, after a while you'll be juking them out and can follow up with a solid combo afterwards.

Bonus Tip: Use bison's v-skill vs Ryu since he loves spamming fireball, that's how i beat him at stage 100 and it was super easy.

  • Vega

FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA FBA

  • Ryu/Ken/Akuma

The Med. DP trick will get you pretty far since the AI will rarely punish you on block, but you may need to play it more safe in the later stages since it becomes more aggressive. If it gets dicey start spamming fireballs.

  • Abigail

Go for meaties (especially in v-trigger) all day and use run xx punch at a safe distance. Attack supps turn this guy into a freight train.

  • Juri

QCB + K can be a good way to get in and grants a KD on hit but can be dicey. My best bet would to use LK fuha fireballs and follow them towards the opponent as you start your combo for added damage/pressure.

  • Guile

Fireball spam works very well, you can also do a light v-skill boom to approach similarly to how i advised for Juri.

  • Balrog

I'd advise against TAP since it's too risky and too time consuming to charge. J + HK into cr HP xx heavy DP followed with EX dash punch is your best combo and hits crazy good. Overheads into combos also work well.

  • Necalli

Ground pound v-skill is a good way to get KD's, otherwise just go for aerial combos (as much as i like him he really is kinda boring isn't he?)

ONE LAST TIP

If you don't already, have online match search running as you play survival. If you find yourself having issues at a certain level and lose a ton of health (or about to die) you can hop into an online match if one is available. After you finish your match you can "return to previous mode" and back to the start of your survival level. Think of it as a safety net of sorts.

Let me know if there's more details to cheesing out survival and put them in the comments below.

A Question about AE not answered in the Mega-Thread

Posted: 15 Dec 2017 08:00 AM PST

TL;DR - will i keep my progress from SFV even if i buy a new disc version of AE?

If I already own SFV and i have some costumes, colors, banners, etc unlocked/bought. If i purchase SFV:AE as a new disc, will my data transfer over from the disc of vanilla version onto the new one? I haven't purchased all the characters, but i have purchased some costumes and colors for the characters i do have. Buying the AE disc will be cheaper than buying the rest of the characters that im missing. I dont want to lose my costumes and colors though, are they attached to the PSN account or are they attached to the disc's save file? Will i keep my old stuff?

Today while watching TOP GUN I heard a very recognizable song.

Posted: 15 Dec 2017 09:44 AM PST

What do you guys think? Did Capcom rip them off? The wiki page for the song says the following:

"Although unconfirmed by official sources, "Mighty Wings" beginning riff and guitar arrangement served as base for the composition of Ken's stage theme in the video-game Street Fighter."

Cheap Trick - Mighty Wings was released in 1986. Ken's Theme was released in 1987.
