[Crusader] What do I reroll?

Diablo was planning loot boxes back in 1994?

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 12:16 AM PST

In the original design doc by Condor Games they talk about selling randomized loot on disks sold at game stores. Would there have been the same controversy back then as there is now?

The worst hardcore death?

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 09:38 AM PST

I just have a confession. I was hunting for goblins in the sewers in Act 2 in Diablo 3. I thought I had cleared it and I alt tabbed to look for other good areas to farm in. When I come back, I am dead. A single skeleton came out and killed me. It was standing there by itself on my death screen. Goodbye my best items.

Blizzard, unlock the difficulties for new players

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 08:54 PM PST

There's still new players and they are always asking, why this game is so easy. It's so easy because new player can't raise the difficulty over the Expert. Blizzard is basically still ruining the first gameplay experience for new players, just like it did in 2012 (normal difficulty back then).

It doesn't bother me, but I suggest you to unlock the difficulties for the new players so the first gameplay wouldn't make them fall asleep.

Edit. Speaking about campaign here.

To Cube or Not to Cube

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 10:33 AM PST

Hi! Do items I cube during the season, transfer to the non seasonal cube at the end of the season or are they lost? Also, are your building materials, gems and gold sent to you? I am aware they mail you your weapons and armour at the end of the season. Thank you

Thoughts on how to disincentivize bot usage, and why it's actually important to everyone.

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 07:45 PM PST

Let's start with this: I don't bot. I don't stream, and I'm not at the top (or even on) the leaderboards. I don't expect to because I'm just not worried about meta stuff. I'm having fun though, and that's great.

I'm going to start with why it's important to everyone, even those like me who don't push and aren't likely to ever have the time to push/be truly competitive.

First, botting does mean that those that use them can gain a lot more paragon points than those that don't bot, especially early mid season (which leads to bigger gains mid & late season).

Second, botting means more access to crafting materials which hides the true cost of gearing a character for high level rifts. This is one of the major impacts that botting has that hits even those that have no intention of being competitive on the leaderboards. I'll explain further in a moment.

Third, botting hurts public games and makes it harder to find good bounty/rifting partners outside of specialized communities. From what I've heard, bots aren't usually used in pubs, but I've heard plenty of anecdotal evidence in both directions, so I'm not certain on that score.

Fourth, botting engenders ill will in the community and towards those on the leaderboards and those that stream and bot. If you are a streamer, please don't bot. Its...distasteful, at best. Frankly I think Twitch.tv and Youtube should departner and decline to push revenue for anyone that is known to use programs that violate the ToS of the games they are playing. Blizzard could probably push that angle if they wanted, but it'd be a bit of a mess.

Regarding the crafting materials issue. This is one of the ones that hits people harder than I think we realize sometimes. You get 16 mats per act completed. I've heard estimated completion times per act in the 3-5 minutes time for efficient farming, and with 5 acts across 4 people being done concurrently, you are looking at somewhere around 8-10 minutes total, if everyone is playing characters well suited to speed farming and doing things efficiently. In reality, I'd say most 'average' players are looking at closer to 20 minutes per full clear, and many are taking far longer. For 16 mats. Which is 3 reforges.

If i run an inefficient bot that takes 20 minutes per 'set' of bounties (all 5 acts done and collected, then make a new game) for 12 hours a day while I sleep, work, eat, shower, etc, then I have 3x16x12 mats to work with, or 576 total, which is 115.2 reforges. Compared to a normal player who quickly tires of running bounties, and might bring themselves to do 3 inefficient 20 minute runs, or maybe 5-10 efficient runs a day. maybe. Getting, at best, 32 reforges worth of mats.

Giving the botter a huge advantage, but also during that time, the bot may have picked up some various legendaries that are worth keeping (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will).

My point, guesswork math aside, is that because these people are botting, it hides the true cost of getting some builds up and running well. Like a good well geared charge barb. Or Condemn Sader.

So how do we disincentivize an activity that has such a strong advantage?

The first thing to do is to reduce the advantage in terms of crafting materials. Heres one possible take on that, though I suspect there are other equally or even better methods.

Let's start by drastically increasing the amount of mats given by the first five full bounty clears. Or perhaps the first five times you clear a particular act might be the best way to think of it. The first time in a 24 hour period you clear a particular act you get 256 mats. That's right. Sounds like a lot, but it's not really. The next time, you get 128. Then 64, then 32, then 16. From then on you keep getting 16. So for the first few clears of a particular act you get drastically more mats. In fact, it's 31 current clears worth, just to be clear. A sixth clear makes it an even 32 worth (512 total), worth 102.4 reforges. Meaning that the average player now has a way to get the gear that the 'pros' (eg, botters and people that can play 15 hours+/day have).

This isn't enough. Alone all this would do is just make the gap bigger. In addition to this, there needs to be a break point on the top end, unfortunately. Here's how it works. After 40 bounty runs in any 24 hours (so it's still enough to give a normal player lots of wiggle room, but well below bot capacity), bounty caches cease to drop normal amounts, and begin to drop only 2 mats per cache until 48 hours after they are no longer running > 40/24 hour period. No that's not a perfect solution, but it greatly limits how much can be botted. It would take some work to make it smart enough, and obviously, Blizzard wouldn't necessarily want to make it clear what the real threshold for the trigger is, but you also wouldn't want to punish the average player with this, so it'd have to be high enough that most wouldn't hit it. But my guess is that the average player would only do 5-6 bounties per day after this change.

Next paragon points/levels.

On seasonal play only, paragon point distribution should be capped at 2k. That's enough that the average player isn't going to feel the impact too much, the botters will, and those doing endless rat runs will only feel sorta. Here's why: most of those doing lots of rat runs aren't really after xp solely. They are after gem upgrades & augments. With that, after 2k, paragon, the player would still accumulate paragon points and xp, just be unable to assign more than 2k worth on season. Post season all gained xp would be rolled into non-season per normal.

The only other alternative is a complete rework of the paragon system, which is even more unlikely than my idea of changing how many bounty mats you get.

Another way to disincentivize bot usage is to introduce a greater degree and randomization into the bounties and level generation--eg making it harder to program efficient bots. I'm not sure that this would be very effective.

Finally the way we all know would disincentivize bot usage would be for more routine bans of those using them. Accounts that have extreme uptime, such as 19+ hours/day, really should be examined closely.

I'm certain that many will come along with garbage about how this isn't useful, but my entire point is to think up ways that could help solve this without wrecking the game for all of us or producing more draconian software for our computers to detect the bots--a losing battle for everyone involved.

Thanks for reading, i hope you found it interesting!

[Necro] Question regarding Nyrs Black Death + Gem of Efficacious toxin

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 09:10 PM PST

Right now Im building a cursed scythe based inarius necro. Im pushing GR 70+ (still missing a COE and no ancient gear : / )

Ive noticed similar builds pushing 95+ but opting for a gogok or bane of the stricken instead of Gem of Efficacious. My question would the gem not count as an additional poison skill and add 100% damage due to the passive on Nyr's death? Or am I better off going with bane of the stricken or gogok?

Anyone else having trouble w/this mage challenge rift?

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 06:58 PM PST

The build feels absolutely useless. I've been trying every combination of teleporting to each boss pack, spamming torrent/meteors. feels like I'm dying way too quick even with 1 second of casting.

Help me push past GR 70

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 08:03 AM PST

Hey guys, this is my first season playing this game and I'm having a lot of fun with the grind, I wish the Destiny 2 grind was this good. Anyways, I'm starting to top out on GR70. I'm playing DH using the N6 build and i really like the build. I have 5 ancient items and my gems are all about level 60 and I'm about Paragon 500.

What's next exactly? Should i just be farming to get ancient items in all of my slots? And continuing to upgrade my gems? Or do i need to start augmenting some of my ancient items?

Thanks dudes i look forward to trying to hit GR 100 this season!

question about re-rolling an amulet

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 02:33 AM PST

I have an ancient Traveler amulet. I wonder which one (damage or Intelligence) to reroll to a socket. Thanks for the advice.

  • +101-201 damage

  • +976 intelligence

  • CHD 94%

  • CHC 10%

i simulated with d3planner, they give me almost the same sheet damage, but intelligence gives more toughness of course.
