Destiny 2 The Dawning

The Dawning

Posted: 18 Dec 2017 07:00 PM PST

Good evening, Guardians!

Tomorrow begins the first Destiny 2 holiday themed event! (source: https://www.bungie.net/en/Explore/Detail/News/46547)

"The Traveler is awake. For Humanity, a new Golden Age has begun. This year's Dawning is unlike any other—it's not just the renewal that a new year brings, but the dawn of something greater. Now more than ever, we must gather together in the Tower, at the Farm, and all across the system to give thanks. Our Light has returned—and it illuminates everything around us."
-Ikora Rey, Warlock Vanguard

Happy Dawning to All

It may be cold outside, but there's a warmth in the air. As the year comes to an end, the Tower and Farm are decorated with festive cheer. It's a time to celebrate your Light.

Snowball Fights

Guardians aren't just arming themselves with weapons. There are snowball piles everywhere you look. In the Tower and at the Farm, you can tag your friends for bragging rights. In Strikes, you can blast an enemy with a snowball to stun them and deal big damage. Stay frosty out there.

Mayhem in the Cold

Keep your blood warm and your heart pumping in the Crucible. Mayhem is back, so your abilities recharge faster. Point values are cranked up enough to melt the ice. It's anarchy—and it's awesome.

Milestones of Winter

Engage in Crucible Mayhem or become legend in Strikes and you'll be rewarded. Every week, complete a milestone for a Dawning engram. Get in the giving mood with new consumables that give rewards to everyone you're playing with. If there's a specific Dawning item that you have your heart set on, Tess will refresh her inventory each week, enabling you to use your Bright Dust reserves for your holiday shopping. On one week or another during the three-week event, you'll find every Dawning-themed exotic (ship, ghost, sparrow, emote) and every Dawning-themed legendary armor piece on her shelves.

Gifting and Receiving

Pick up a Dawning Gift Schematic from the Bazaar. Venture to other worlds and craft a unique gift for the vendors and agents you find in the Tower and beyond. Then, give the lucky recipient their gift and receive a gift in return. You can participate in the season of giving every day of the event.

The Dawning begins on Tuesday, December 19.

The Dawning ends on Tuesday, January 9.

Let's usher in a new year, and a new Golden Age together.

Hope to see you out there!

Love this game

Posted: 19 Dec 2017 06:06 AM PST

The community has been salty as of late and I don't like that. So I just want to say how much I appreciate this game. The level of detail put into this game is amazing. Every lost sector you go into has like... like a story on its own, it feels like an adventure.

The story was so good and epic, I killed the bosses from what I've learned in the game and gotten so much better that I killed them with ease. Every weapon I acquire has its own personality and feel to it. The exotics are amazing, it is a good idea to put out some of the good weapons from the previous game, they're so much fun to use.

The eververse gets annoying sometimes but not really. I know Bungie needs to make some money after all, they're not earning enough due to the lack of support this game has. And yes, I do acknowledge all the flaws of this game but this is Destiny 2, not Destiny 1. It is a whole new game, and it will get better. Just wait 3 years and it will be breathtaking, a lot can happen in 3 years, my dog died less than 3 years ago, rip. But hey, at least it's not 4.

I know that Bungie has lied about some stuff but those are just small white lies, we can forgive them given how much depth there is in the game. They have put in so much work. However, a sin is a sin and God will surely punish them for it. Sometimes when I play games I just want to relax and look at the beautiful views this game has. Most games have overly complex mechanics and content that it feels like I'm back in school, and I hated school... sigh, I hate my life. But this game is a breath of fresh air. It's like... Call of Duty, but it's not, it's Destiny.

Sorry, just wanted to spread some positivity.

Tower Thought- Once a year Bungie should let us gift one item to another guardian

Posted: 19 Dec 2017 05:49 AM PST

It would be cool if they had an event similar to Festival of the Lost, but holiday themed. During the event we could get the ability to gift one piece of gear to a friend/stranger. Like if I had 10 of the same exotic that someone wanted but RNGesus was being miserly, you could send it to the postmaster for them as a one time gift, once a year.

Deja Vu

Posted: 19 Dec 2017 12:41 AM PST

You know, I have been apart of the Destiny community for a good time. I wasn't a day 1 or beta player, but I have been around for awhile. I played a little bit in Vanilla, got excited for the Dark Below and the House of Wolves, I sat in anguish for not having any money to play them, I awaited the Taken King, and busted myself all the way through Rise of Iron. I played through, became an accomplished guardian among my friends and clanmates. I waited for Destiny 2 with patience and played and beat the story like it owed me money when it first came out. I then waited for Curse of Osiris and did the same thing when it dropped. Now I eagerly await the next DLC in spring.

Yet, while this is happening, my mind seems to keep calling me back to something or reminding me of something. Hate, complaining, salt mines, and a community covered in bitter white sand. We call this feeling Deja Vu. A phenomenon of feeling something we have already seen. Where have I seen this before? I decided to investigate on a fabled and legendary place called YouTube. Pass the "I'm done with Destiny (or Bungie)" videos, pass weapon reviews, pass trailers for new video games, pass lore videos, pass everything. I make my way back to a video, a video we now know as "Official Destiny Expansion 1: The Dark Below Trailer." Could this be the video I am looking for?

I took a nice long sip of Mountain Dew, wiped the dorito dust off of my fingers, and put down my red PS4 controller as well as my Destiny 2 Expansion Pass. And I watched. And I looked.

Below the old video stood a memory of white bitter sand. The ancient writings in the comment section of the YouTube video above read like the Destiny 1 Grimiore cards.

"I think that game will get boring in a few weeks"

"god lord I want my money back"

"awesome now we have actually 1/4th of a game"

"what a waste"

I fast forward into time yet again. I clutch my Mountain Dew, Doritos, Controller, and Expansion pass tight in hand as I look to the next video: "Official Destiny Expansion II: House of Wolves Prologue". Yet again the ancient writings speak to me.

"This game is dying"

"Can't wait to be dissapointed"

"I'm so over this game"

As I looked on amazed at how people still have to comment on a video about a game that they are "done" with, my mind finally figured it out.

All my understanding came through as I channeled the knowledge of the Warlock master race through my brain.

It has all been done and said before. Curse of Osiris is getting the same treatment the Dark Below and the House of Wolves did. Constant complaints, bitter salt workers, and people criticizing without good or constructive criticism. When people say they enjoyed the Expansion, they are shut down. There is bitter salt masking as sweet sugar. It has all happened before. Is it our Destiny to repeat the Destiny cycle of salt and love? To hate on the game and become bitter and sour on it forever because you didn't have an experience that someone else may have enjoyed? To want to make claims of greediness and uncaring developers? To troll on forums, videos, and subreddits as to why a game sucks? To just keep respecting the same sheep-like rhetoric to people you claim to be sheep themselves? To set high expectations and to be met by disappointment of their own doing?

Seriously guys. People love this game. Accept that people love it and the things it provides. Because this. This cycle of complaining and claiming they are "done" with a game has been done over and over and over again to the point of stupidity with no real goal insight, especially with the games known as Destiny and Destiny 2. This game has flaws, it is no different from any other game. Now this is not directed at this subreddit in general, I'm talking about the Destiny community as a whole. Patience is a virtue. You can't expect everything to be solved with one DLC or one sandbox update. Destiny 1 has problems all the way through it's lifespan. There was always a bug, an overpowered weapon, a content drought, and just general problems. But that is part of gaming development. All I see on YouTube when I look up Destiny 2 is people complaining about it, and a lot of times it not even being a constructive argument rather than an angry rant or how Destiny 1 is better because of, etc. It is getting old. I saw this comment earlier today about how Bungie is a scamming company and how they want to spit on them. I saw Destiny youtubers suddenly do a complete 180 from playing destiny to complaining how it was a scam. "Oh I paid $20 for this DLC. It must be a scam and Bungie wants our money." Oh (insert word not allowed on this subreddit) off. You can buy a lot of things with $20 that can last one day or a long time. A good book, a decent dinner, maybe a movie with the wife or the girlfriend, or a good book. You know things that could last forever? But no. You chose to spend it on a video game DLC. Bungie didn't scam you. They told you exactly what was in the DLC and they gave it to you and promised more stuff in the future, Oh and here is the kicker, this $20 DLC has more content than the first $20 DLC of Destiny 1. Wow! The first DLC in Destiny 2 is way better than the first of Destiny 1.

Now please. This may be an overly long rant, but the Destiny community needs to realize that they are just repeating the cycle of hype, disappointment, and salt. The game isn't dying, Bungie are not scammers, you being a Day 1 player does not make you an expert on all things video games or development, or you playing a different game makes you superior to Destiny players. It is all Deja Vu and something I wish didn't comeback every time Bungie announces something.

Thank you and have a wonderful day.

The loot cave

Posted: 19 Dec 2017 05:56 AM PST

Just wondering if there were any true original guardians out there that remember what was the myth, the legend that was the loot cave!

I remember spending hours just shooting at that cave for hours, running up grabbing my goods and starting all over again, ahh vanilla destiny, good times...

The issue of vault space

Posted: 19 Dec 2017 05:06 AM PST

With the new dawning update, Destiny 2 gets even more legendary gear to collect. Currently, I have collected roughly 2/3rds of the game's current legendary loot, but have already maxed out my vault space. We shouldn't have to struggle to manage inventory space in order to collect everything and should be given the option to expand and store more items.

Now, while I understand that some people may argue that if collectors like me wanted to have storage space, then we could just recycle some of the stuff we don't use. This is true, but doing so prevents the satisfaction of being able to own every legendary item.
