[In 4 Hours] [NA] Community Night 10-mans

Posted: 12 Dec 2017 02:30 PM PST

Note to non NA players: We have a separate weekly EU event that occurred earlier this evening. You may participate in this event if you wish, but for the sake of fairness, NA players will have priority in joining games during this event.

Community Night

It's time for the official CS:GO Reddit Community Night!! Community Night is a weekly Tuesday evening event in which we play 5v5 games(10mans not scrims) with other redditors on our own 128-tick servers with competitive settings on classic maps (i.e. Active Group and older competitive maps). The night will last for a few hours, so feel free to drop in whenever you're free!

When Is It?

The NA event begins four hours from this thread being posted. Community Night begins at the time specified below, converted to the major NA timezones for your convenience:

Pacific Mountain Central Eastern
6:30 PM 7:30 PM 8:30 PM 9:30 PM

If you would like weekly alerts for the start of our events, feel free to join the Community Night Steam Group! Announcements are made at the minute the event starts, so you won't miss a thing.

How do I join?

To join, simply connect to our TeamSpeak3 server and hop in the Community Night lobby to get put into a game by an admin. Here are the server details:

Server Address: ts.redditcsgo.com

Note: When connecting, please include your rank at the beginning of your name like so: "MGE-Jpon9".

Normally we playtest a map every Community Night, but tonight we're not. We will resume our playtests very soon. We will be playing current operation and active duty maps.

Information about playtesting

If you would like to be notified when the playtest starts you can join our Playtesting Steam Group.

Volume of crowd microphones really need to be re-looked at.

Posted: 12 Dec 2017 02:34 PM PST

Remember NBK's knife on Flusha in the grand final of ESL 2015? Please watch it. Look at that beauty. Look at the intensity, notice the hype, true top level Counter-Strike there. But what really makes that atmosphere real? For me, it's simply the volume of the crowd mics.

Again, let's take a look at Kennys' knife on Guardian in that same tournament. Again, do you notice the hype and sheer glory that moment creates?

Now let's take a look at Guardian's knife to save FaZe from elimination in the most recent ESL pro league final. Notice the volume and intensity of the situation when the knife happens. Now it feels absolutely NOTHING like compared to the others, does it?

It's crazy how much of a difference a simple change like increasing the crowd microphone volume can have. In my opinion, it makes events like these a LOT more memorable.

CSGO Major rules should be standardized by Valve and never modified by an Event Organizer

Posted: 12 Dec 2017 08:21 AM PST

This entire Eleague debacle has taken place purely because Valve gives event organizers the reigns to change the rules if needed be. Eleague changed the rules and Boltz/Steel most probably only found out too late that they couldn't compete in the major by changing teams (what has been the norm for pretty much every other major). Tomorrow PGL can change the rules too and they have every right to under the current system, but why?

My problem is that why are event organizers even allowed to change the rule set for the biggest tournament in CSGO? Something that will only take place twice a year and requires preparation by teams months in advance and you allow an organizer to change the rules whenever they see fit?

Its like Fifa giving the stadium owners the right to change the rules of their world cup by disqualifying a team or NBA giving the TV broadcaster rights to change the rules and disqualify players based on how they see fit. There is no need for them to have that control, all their job is to monetize the experience by airing it, organizing it and selling seats. Esport event organizers have so much more freedom and still they think it is necessary to change the core rulings such as these just for the sake of it even though it was working fine.

A major should always have consistent rules outlined in advance with a long enough notice that teams can adapt to it. They should be standardized so teams and ORGs understand completely what to expect. These teams and players can make roster changes, get paperwork ready, pick what to compete and what not to all to make sure that the same set of rules is abided by. If still someone starts complaining we can see who is at fault.

Eleague changed the rules on the whim and on top of that have been completely silent on the issue. Richard Lewis hasn't made a video because he works for them, he'd already be at ESL's throat if they did this. Dekay was told off as well. Any big talent who wants to be at the desk most likely wont speak up either. Players are having to beg Eleauge to change the rule to how it always was, something Boltz and Steel would've avoided by even playing if they knew Eleague was on a menstrual cycle.

Let the organizers pick the dates, do whatever they see fit for the arena, LANs, equipment but the set of rules and the rule book should be out of their hands. They should never be able to modify it and if Valve needed to modify it at the request of an event organizer it should be done with prior notice and long enough time so that teams can adapt. That is what happens in pretty much every sport or anything taken seriously "change of rules starting from XX-XX-XXXX)"

TL:DR; Valve should outline basic rules and announce amendments in advance with enough time for ORGs to adapt. The rule book for qualification and the game of CSGO should be in Valve's control. It doesn't need to be modified. Event organizers can do what they deem fit for the actual broadcasting but should not interfere with the process of who can play and who can't.

Possible fix for Matchmaking Accept Button Missing

Posted: 12 Dec 2017 07:02 AM PST

After experiencing the same bug as everyone else in MM with "Confirming Match" showing, no accept button popping up and getting removed from the queue, I changed a few networking preferences with console commands to fix the problem for me. I'm on NA East and can now find a match reliably within 5 minutes without getting kicked from the queue.

First: Verify all CS:GO game files through the steam library. Then enter the following commands in your console:

net_client_steamdatagram_enable_override -1

net_steamcnx_allowrelay 0

net_steamcnx_enabled 2

mm_session_search_qos_timeout 3

That's it!

Note that none of these are cheat protected (aka changing these settings is allowed by valve and cannot get you banned; they simply tell steam not to use the new "steam datagrams" from the last update or extra relays to connect you to your Matchmaking server. Depending on what server you're closest to, you'll probably see "Confirming Match" appear and disappear 1-5 times before the accept button appears.

It appears that the problem for most people isn't about the UI but the latest CS:GO updates from Valve to use Steam Datagram Relays (SDR) instead of direct UDP as they did before. For some reason several of the relay servers across the world stopped working correctly around 12 hours ago, causing intermittent errors depending on how players were routed to matchmaking servers
