Adventures as a Noob Pt.3: Werewolf Infection

Posted: 20 Nov 2017 05:08 PM PST

My experience so far (first day)

Posted: 21 Nov 2017 12:47 AM PST

So, I escaped an extra-dimensional soul prison with the help of Obi Wan Kenobi, then it seems I almost drowned and was saved by a crew of sailors. Apparently leaving the whole "soul prison Obi Wan Kenobi" thing behind, I was told to go do random things for random people until further notice. After flatly refusing to help my rescuers (who were apparently pirates) with their next heist, I killed a boatload of wolves and bugs and then explored a very tiny ruin with some guy to help him find a dwarven airship blueprint.

He then asked me if I could try to get him in on a heist some pirates in town were talking about.

Then I wandered around for a bit and I am now helping an amnesiac by receiving a free trial of his treasure-hunting monkey.

All I can say is, "Yep, this is an Elder Scrolls game. Neat."

I’m enjoying this game so much!

Posted: 20 Nov 2017 07:24 AM PST

Disclaimer: English is not my native language.

I'm a veteran MMO player. I played wow since vanilla and still play it sometimes. I tried games like rift, LOTRO, GW(2), Lineage II, etc. I also tried ESO when it launched on PC and again on PS4 but somehow I never like the way the game played. So I went back for wow.

I read online that ESO had changed a lot. Since the new Elder Scrolls game isn't even announced I thought I'd try ESO again. And man do I enjoy this game! I play on PS4 and even there the community is active and alive! I love the fact that the areas are scaling towards your level so I can join my guildies who are at a much higher level then I am.

The atmosphere in this game is absolutely fantastic. The scenery in combination with the music and storyline makes me feel like I'm actually playing a SP Elder Scrolls game. There are side quests everywhere!

Everybody keeps saying that WoW is the biggest MMO and nobody can beat it. But honestly with the huge amount of content ESO has and the way this game plays it is honestly a WoW beater for me! I'm glad I decided to give this game another try. Thanks ZeniMax for this amazing game!

Is my Stamina DK DPS DW/Bow ready for vMA? First timer here.

Posted: 21 Nov 2017 12:27 AM PST

So I'm a Stam DK DPS DW/BOW at 404. I do normally around 23k dps with my rotation. I'm afraid to go into vMA... especially when Alcast says you need to be around 500CP to be successful. I RARELY die in veteran dungeons, even on hard mode. Am I... am I ready?!?!? I have a survivability-based DD with focus on DPS... I used rending slashes and bloodthirst instead of gaining the higher DPS. I have vigor and Ballista slotted instead of opting for more DPS with Flawless Dawnbreaker... may need to switch to Corrosice Armor for vMA. What I lack is a VO set. I'm using 5x Spriggans, 5x Hundings, 1x Slimecraw and 1x Kragh for best survivability/DPS combo. Am I ready? Or do I need to wait and farm a VO set? Not even for this event really... just for vMA in general. I need that bow 😍... thanks for any and all advice! Any other information you guys need to further analyze my build, please ask!

Friendly (possibly obvious) reminder about PS4 Second Screen app: a poor man’s keyboard for ESO!

Posted: 21 Nov 2017 04:27 AM PST

If you don't feel like spending a single penny and have a smartphone, go on the App Store and download the PS4 second screen app. Just pair it with your PlayStation and then you can use your phone's keyboard whenever you chat instead of the clunky virtual keyboard in game! Happy chatting!

When is a good time to start trying Maelstrom Arena?

Posted: 20 Nov 2017 08:30 PM PST

Title. I have all the gear sets I want besides some Maelstrom weapons and I want to try it but I am admittedly very intimidated by it. I have watched a couple guides and have tried to get familiar with it beforehand, but I don't wanna waste time if it's not viable for me currently

For reference, I am a CP 290 Stamplar

[Guide] The need for a guide to ESO slang/terms/Abbreviations

Posted: 20 Nov 2017 11:37 PM PST

Returning to the game after 2 years away, there is a flipping Khajiit caravan's load of new material. While i have been thrilled with it all it seems i have about as much luck understanding this subreddit as Hermaeus Mora's black books. I think a list of all the commonly used terms/slang/abbreviations would be incredibly helpful to me and all novices alike. If there is enough response and comments i can redo this post with all the listed terms and even tag some helpful wiki pages or info to the terms!

What to focus on now I'm level 50/Everything that's wrong with my life so far

Posted: 20 Nov 2017 11:00 PM PST

So I finally got to level 50 yesterday and dipped my feet into the pleasant bath that is CP point levelling.

It's taken me a year and about 7 days of playtime but I'm finally there. After realising that you got a massive daily XP bonus from dungeons and, erm, finally using the Activity Finder, I went from 40-50 pretty quickly, whereas 30-40 was glacial. Before then I was just doing quests and generally mucking about.

Anyway, what should my focus be on next? Obviously, I'm going to want to use the Enlightenment bonus and accrue some CP points (currently maybe CP34?) and I don't really need to worry about gear until CP160. I've been researching stuff as I played - albeit I tend to play intensively for a period and then put the game down for a couple of months - and I reckon most of my research lines are taking 7 days or something now, so maybe about three or so left on each.

Before then, my focus was mainly working through the Ebonheart areas in sequence. I was about 2/3s of the way through Eastmarch and had The Rift and presumably Coldharbour to do, along with the last stage of the Main Quest.

Do i still continue with this? And then is it best to go do the other alliance areas too, as opposed to making them with a second character? I know you get skill points for some in your own alliance, so I'm presuming it's the same with the others.

I do have ESO Plus at the moment though along with Morrowind, so do I go play the DLC? In which order? The Orc one obviously has the anniversary event.

Do I finally try PVP, having not even played it once? Do I go farming for materials and stuff to increase my crafting levels? Do I keep running dungeons for the XP and sheer amount of drops. Do I go and find a mount, as my character's legs are presumably tired, having raced across the continent for days on end?

I'm at a loss as to what skills to use too (currently a Dark Elf Stamblade though probably picked the wrong race there). I've got in a rut where I basically use the same rotation. Indeed, I've only just used what the word "rotation" means. I tend to use Blood Craze a lot, pounding my high stamina and restoring health as I take damage, as I'm pretty weak. I use Reaper's Mark on my solo target. That Steel Tornado skill for ads, with Killer's Blade to finish them off below 25% health. I then use Leeching Strikes for when I need to restore stamina.

Should I go create an alternate character? I actually have a level 3 Stamsorc and a level 5 Warden in Morrowind, which I've barely played. Should I create a character on the NA server? I'm currently on the EU one, though living in Japan means I'm sort of stuck between two time zones. When is the best time for an alt?

Should I try and find people to play with? I got invited to a random Guild but don't really know the best way of utilising it, and often if I don't use the Activity Finder the game can be a solitary experience. As I'm in Japan and people in Europe or America are sometimes sleeping when I play, things like World Bosses, Public Dungeons and Dolmens are heavily reliant on the sheer luck of having someone walk past or respond to my cries for help.

The main problem is I still feel pretty weak at CP34. I can't solo Dolmens or World Bosses (is the latter ever even possible) and due to my low health, I get pounded even by normal bosses if I don't take care. I then see other characters in the 40s tearing up masses of adds, whereas even my damage doesn't seem all that impressive.

I realise there are about a thousand questions here, and the answer may well be to go and do whatever I like, but any nudge towards what would be most profitable spending my time, would be appreciated.

Some of this sounds like I'm down on the game but I'm actually pouring hours into it again right now. Just feel like sometimes I could be progressing/improving a lot faster than I am.

1. Is it possible to solo as a Templar?

Posted: 21 Nov 2017 04:26 AM PST

  1. Is everything in the game solo possible if strong enough? Things like high level quest, dungeons etc...

  2. What are the pros and cons of solo-ing? Is there extra experience, do you get more drops etc...

Will Role playing my character ruin my dungeon experiences with players?

Posted: 20 Nov 2017 07:19 PM PST

Hey everyone, I know this is asked probably 1000 times. Im new and rolling a dark elf dragon knight and Im just sort of role playing him to be a tanky mage that can dual wield and use a sword and shield. Sort of a spellsword. I am currently running attributes to run about 34 Magicka, 10 health, and 20 stam. I seem to be pretty balanced and really enjoy my guy for landscape mobs. I see a bunch of very cookie cutter vet dungeon builds online. Will I need to succumb to one of these cookie cutter builds or will a freestyle build like mine be accepted into dungeons? Just wondering, I know alot of MMOs have cut throat vet instance runners and Im just not sure if the cookie cutter builds are the only way to go. Thanks!

I went with magicka to support my DK skill sets, I went with health to add some survivability, and finished with some stamina for my tank skills and to supplement DPS when mana runs out. Im currently running heavy armor. I see maxed out stam and magic builds but it seems like such a waste in versatility if I go that max one stat route. Thanks for the advice, Im loving this game so far.

Research Questions???

Posted: 21 Nov 2017 03:50 AM PST

So it kind of seems like a weird question for me to ask but if I find a weapon that is a good for but it also has a trait that is useful, should I use the weapon or Research the trait???? im a magsorc running Destro/Resto and just found a Resto staff that is better than what i got but has the "Powered" trait that increases healing done.

Sorry if its an obvious choice, super new and its hella late (4:50am )

Lootable furniture.

Posted: 21 Nov 2017 02:15 AM PST

Does anyone know where to find a list of lootable furniture with the location you loot it from? For instance fish from fishing, inkwell from thieving desks. I know you can get candles, dice, wine, and mugs but have never run across any.

Stamblade Build for PvP?

Posted: 20 Nov 2017 06:39 PM PST

Hey, I'm trying to come up with a good gear setup for PvP (I think mostly for Battlegrounds and small groups in Cyrodiil). I'm a PvE player and information online on the subject of PvP I have found lacking. Right now, I'm thinking 5x Viper, 2x Selene's, 3x Agility, 1x Master's Bow and 1x Maelstrom Greatsword/Battleaxe/Maul (Not sure which is best). How does this setup sound? Is there anything I could do to make it better? Oh, and what traits are best on the weapons? I'm an Imperial, if that helps at all. Thanks in advanced!

[PC] Can I play ESO casual?

Posted: 21 Nov 2017 01:42 AM PST

Sorry for my English.

I have searched about this, but some people say ESO is very casual friendly, while others say it is grindy as hell. So I'm not sure if I should pick this game up or not.

I play GW2 long time but recently got bored/need a break from it. I played Skyrim few years ago and it was very fun. I know I should not expect a Skyrim in ESO since this is a MMO. So for the people of ESO reddit, I'm in need with some advice:

  1. Is ESO casual friendly? I don't mind questing or running dungeons for gears drop, but I don't really like sitting at 1 farming map, killing mobs for ages to level up

  2. I think ESO has a holy trinity (DPS - Tank - Healer) system, but is it really restricted to each class? For example, if I play healer in other MMO, the leveling experience is really bad because I do no DMG. I like playing support/healer but I afraid it will be harder for me to actually get to the end-game content.

  3. Does ESO Plus matter, as in Pay-2-Win?

  4. I'm using a laptop to play since I'm working aboard. This is a mediocre HP Envy laptop with only 4700MQ 2.4GHz, NVidia 840M and 16GB RAM. It works fine with GW2 on low setting, I still get 60fps in a WvW fight (battleground PvP) between 60v60v60 people. Do you think it can run ESO with 50 60fps on low setting?

  5. And lastly, which version should I pick up on Steam? I saw Gold version, Morrowind, Tamriel Unlimited, and a little bit confused which one is suitable for new player.

Thank you for all the help, I really hope I can play this game!!

[PC] Vigil's End dialogue help!

Posted: 21 Nov 2017 01:40 AM PST

I completed the quest Vigil's End but missed a very important bit of dialogue! Now I can't find it anywhere!

The option I needed to pick was "Phylactery what's that?". I need the answer so if anyone could fill me in I would be most appreciative.
