Bungie: you’ll need to do WAY better than Clarion Call to attract clans back to D2

Posted: 18 Nov 2017 09:20 AM PST

IMHO this is the worst activity ever. Managed to get one of my clan mates to join me last night. Played Competitive PvP for over 2 hours and only got 50% on the milestone and never leveled up for a total of zero bright engrams. Finally stopped when we both realized that even if all that effort had paid off we would have gotten more shaders, reskinned ships and blue mods that we already have or don't care about. Stupid.

Edit: I posted this because I really do want this game to be great and it just isn't at this point. Bungie needs to get this game back to where it was at AoT and evolve from there.

Edit: Made the front page! Thanks for the upvotes and comments

Edit: I get there are more efficient ways to complete the milestone. The point is the reward isn't even worth the minimal effort

Getting only tokens while seeing everyone else in your fireteam get raid loot is one of the most disheartening things about D2.

Posted: 18 Nov 2017 02:46 AM PST

Currently out of town working 14hr days 6 days a week it's hard to find time to play. When my clan finally has schedules synched up and we get to raid it's a great time. We only do a few encounters each time and usually unable to finish the raid during week before reset due to everyone's, not only mine, schedules between working and being on dad duty. So being unable to have access to the vendor back in the tower yet due to not having the raid beaten to turn in the 50+ of tokens I've racked up only loot drops I've gotten are the sword and boots. You can see the frustration when with the time I have all I get are mostly tokens as a drop while my friends are getting guns left and right is very discouraging. Silver lining I have a lot of shaders so I can play copy cat if I want too with my other guns and armor.

Edit: I'm not complaining about the system itself. It's just the frustration of not having gotten hardly any loot with the new system in place due to my hectic schedule. Should be back to normal hours and have plenty of time to raid and finally beat it. I do remember back in the forever 29 days and getting only shards and energies but with those I could use them to at least level up the gear I had gotten instead of just getting tokens I currently can not use.

I really fucking miss getting exotics as actual drops from Bosses in the raid

Posted: 17 Nov 2017 10:58 PM PST

Getting an engram is so ....meh.

I loved the feeling of getting that exotic you always wanted then breaking your fireteams eardrums because you started screaming like a 12 year-old at a Bieber concert. Or getting your 10th Gjallerhorn and having your friend see that and go on a 20 min rant because he still doesn't have one.

And because fuck Rahool. Idk, seems petty but getting the same 5 guns, tokens, and engrams is kinda dull to me

Can someone explain to me why the raid doesn't have a ship, or a sparrow, or a calus clap emote, or anything like that with an insanely low drop rate to get people to want to do the raid more and freak out when someone in the party gets it?

Posted: 17 Nov 2017 08:09 PM PST

Is bungie insane? it seems like an utterly stupid decision to not make a super rare ship or something have a 1% drop rate on defeating calus

this is like basic game design

So we don't have a bunch of pvp game modes to avoid low population for the modes..

Posted: 18 Nov 2017 03:45 AM PST

..but if people don't play Crucible because of lack of game modes, doesn't it kindof defeat the purpose?

Solo'ing All 4 Leviathan Raid Entrances (Castellum Encounters)

Posted: 18 Nov 2017 09:29 AM PST

Solo Pleasure Gardens Entrance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hxLkdDwl2U
Solo The Gauntlet Entrance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67yfQhxUlA0
Solo Royal Pools Entrance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q680mRIG9H0
Solo Calus Entrance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88uuP9Yaruk

Pretty much as the title says, above are videos of every Castellum door being opened completely solo!

First and foremost, there's two people who need to be credited for this challenge. The first being Modern Tryhard, who was the very first person to complete any of the raid entrances (Royal Pools entrance) and what opened this whole challenge up with the defining strategy. The second being bresko91, who was the first to complete the other 3 doors (and the first to all 4 doors total), showing that it wasn't just the Royal Pools that was possible!

As for the strategy: It involves using a Voidwalker Warlock with a Devour build, along with the Wardcliff Coil Exotic. The reason you want Wardcliff here is that it can one hit the Standard Liberators (the enemies who try and steal the flags), and each of those give you a guaranteed Power Ammo brick which automatically reloads with the perk. Wardcliff is by far and away the best weapon for this, pretty much mandatory. Couple this with the Devour build and you have the ability to constantly heal and constantly deal with all enemies.

With the build in mind, the actual encounter is the same for pretty much every door. Each entrance has a set rotation of spawns for Standard Liberators. They are always in the same order, from the same doors and the same timing. So from there it becomes a matter of learning their spawns, and rotating around the area killing them efficiently. Between doing this you need to find gaps in time where you can go and clear the other doors, and slowly work down the large Standard Bearers. Ideally you will be doing this with a Nova Bomb on rounds, or if you're wanting to speed it up you can fire the odd Rocket or Grenade in between.

And that's pretty much all there is to it really. Constantly rotate defending the set Standard Liberator spawns, find gaps to damage the Standard Bearers, kill Counsellors in between, and don't die! The videos above are just my own take and experience with the challenge, and adding in that you can one-phase the Standard Bearers in some scenarios to make it much faster (Gauntlet/Calus I started doing this as they were the last two).

In terms of difficulty between the 4 doors, from hardest to easiest I'd say Pleasure Gardens, Royal Pools, Calus, The Gauntlet. Although I think Pleasure Gardens / Royal Pools are just because of my inexperience at the time (they were the first two I completed), so the rest seemed a lot easier thereafter. I don't think any stand out as significantly harder than the others though. This also isn't strictly possible on a Warlock, both Titan and Hunter have been done for the Royal Pools entrance, and Titan on Gauntlet Door at the very least. I'm not sure how viable the other doors would be for those classes however.

Gear and build are shown at the end of the videos, but it's essentially just Devour Warlock, Better Devils / Manannan SR4 / Wardcliff Coil, Transversive Steps and focusing on as much recovery as possible.

Any other questions feel free to ask! :)

Bungie, can you please reduce the boss fight duration for the Exodus Crash strike?

Posted: 17 Nov 2017 11:45 PM PST

I was very excited when I saw that the Heroic Strikes Playlist was returning... until I remembered Exodus Crash was a strike. As it is currently, I abandon the strike when it comes up. I don't like doing that but I can't play it anymore. I just can't. It is a chore, and a painful one at that. While my issues with the strike extend past the duration of the boss fight, I think I could at least bring myself to play it if the boss did not take so damn long to kill because of his disappearing act. If you could reduce it to three distinct damage phases or however else you want to do it, it would make a big difference in my willingness to play the strike. Thanks.

Does anyone else that has stopped playing D2, still comeback to this sub reddit just to see whats going on?

Posted: 18 Nov 2017 02:04 AM PST

So, Jason Jones recently said, “We’re starting in a small way to look at what’s beyond Destiny”

Posted: 18 Nov 2017 04:54 AM PST

So, I read about this a few weeks ago and I've actually been thinking about it since then...not in a good way. I feel like Destiny is still light years away from reaching its full potential. The Destiny world is amazing and I don't think Bungie knows this. The world and the lore always takes a backseat to all the other stuff. The visuals, the music, the sound, the gunplay are all top notch in Destiny, but the other elements of the game don't ever seem to quite match these aspects.

That being said, it kind of bothers me that they're thinking about what's next, when I feel like they still have so much more to do in Destiny and with the whole company focusing on 1 game, they still can't really get it right. How are they gonna get Destiny right, when they have another game/project to focus on?

I was just wondering how everyone else felt about this. My impression is that Bungie is starting to get sick of Destiny and they're kind of giving up and looking to move on and leave Destiny behind.

All strikes end with a boss. How about a strike that ends like Iron Tomb?

Posted: 18 Nov 2017 11:39 AM PST

Iron Tomb doesn't end with us defeating the SIVA Iron Lords, but with us running away. I think some future strikes could benefit from not ending with a boss, but instead with a different challenge at the end, just so they feel fresh among the others.

So, Id like to go out and take advantage of this Clarion Call business and all, but...

Posted: 18 Nov 2017 12:22 AM PST

Too bad I'm the only one ever on in my Clan of 70 people.

I can't imagine I'm the only one with this issue.

Edit: I should clarify that this isn't meant to be about my clan, moreso that with dwindling clan rosters and friend lists due to inactivity, its frustrating that Bungie would make it so that you can't enjoy the bonuses without your clan mates playing.

Knight gets hit by Wardcliff, then a Fallen Dropship, and a Fallen Walker and survives.

Posted: 18 Nov 2017 12:57 AM PST

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mPY_MNRIbQ

I'm always amused by the physics wardcliff coil has associated with it. I was also surprised by how tough that knight was.

Also, sorry about the terrible aim when I was using scathelocke. It's late and I'm not sure what was going on there. I even spent a second shooting at a downed walker leg. Complete brain fart.

Edit: On further inspection, as mentioned in the comments, he probably didn't get hit directly by the walker and was actually behind it. However he should have at least been close enough to the drop to take some splash damage. Unless that's just wishful thinking on my part.

Bungie has spoken about PvP Balance, Sandbox "differences", etc...Including Hand Cannon accuracy and "Bloom"

Posted: 18 Nov 2017 09:16 AM PST

Unfortunately, the exchange occurred on Twitter, but this is a link to the reply chain if you would like to read it on your own. You will need to scroll up just a bit to where it starts with M.Tashed...Twitter links suck.

While it doesn't address the flinch issue some people have, the exchange does cut to the core of why things are different on PC versus console, and why a lot of people who use a controller on both say that the console sandbox needs rebalanced.

Please note, these words are not my own, and come from a Bungie sandbox developer Grant Mackay:

The console and PC have the same tunning when using a controller. The difference you're feeling is likely frame rate and FOV related.

and:

Memory and processing limitations on console mean slightly different performances in that regard.

One user asked directly about the Hand Cannon issue and was given similar responses, that the differences, even using controller on both console and PC, are down to hardware and graphics settings. These are the only things Bungie have been able to isolate them to.

In the end, we don't have different sandboxes, all three platforms are the same. It's performance differences, which means unfortunately that console players will most likely never see the performance of hand cannons and such that they're looking for.

Why is there no penalty for leaving in competitive matches?

Posted: 18 Nov 2017 05:34 AM PST

I'm tired of people bailing as soon as it goes sour. I think maybe 2 in 5 matches I play there are actually 8 players in the entire match.

We were all in love with the idea of Destiny, many are burnt by D2 because despite its fresh start, we’re still chasing that idea

Posted: 18 Nov 2017 09:21 AM PST

Here me out, I know many are very divided on their opinion of D2 but I just wanted to make a couple of points.

Many people on this sub state how much they love Destiny, how they can play it for hours on end despite its flaws and still continue to enjoy. I'm going to offer a different, perhaps controversial opinion; while some do actually love the game itself, many here don't love the game at all, they love the idea of the game.

To see where I'm coming from, we need to go way back to Destiny being announced and revealed. In it of itself, Destiny didn't actually set out to do anything drastic from the start, as much as Bungie wants to call it a shared world shooter, at its core they were attempting to emulate an MMO from a first person perspective. So what people fell in love with wasn't the concept of an MMO/shooter hybrid, after all many of us have likely played games like that before. We fell in love with Bungies vision of it. We didn't want to just play another MMO/shooter hybrid, we wanted to play Bungies version of it. One with their fantastic music, and great art design and crisp shooting. We were al expecting a polished game with a Halo caliber story full of characters we would end up loving and lore that we could spend hours resting about when weren't playing the game. So when Destiny vanilla arrived and it delivered none of that, many were very upset. But nonetheless, many stuck with the game not because they actually enjoyed it (the problems with Vanilla D1 are to numerous to mention) but because we were in love with the idea of what the game could be. We felt as if off in the distance their was that Destiny that had an engrossing story, deep lore, open world activities, wildlife and novel missions. Many of us stuck with the game because we hoped one day that vision of Destiny would be delivered.

Most of us knew however, that the version of Destiny we had in mind couldn't be achieved during D1's lifespan. It was to broken, to many pieces to pick up. But we all held out hope that Bunfie had actually learnt from their mistakes and that off in the distance, D2 was being worked on to deliver that first Destiny experience. So when the first teaser for D2 was released, showing an actual story and interesting dialogue, many were elated; perhaps this was the Destiny we'd all been hoping for.

But as more and more of D2 was shown, and launch day came and went, it turned out to be anything but the case. There was a story, but it was cliche and silly with poor, cardboard cutout characters. Their were still no open expansive worlds, sure worlds are bigger with more stuff to do but they just boil down to the wasted opportunity of lost sectors (glorified caves), the idea of outposts filled with characters having been reduced to single NPC's who do not much more than sell you things, there was still no wildlife or things that I could say "look at that cool thing" and investigate it to find something cool and unique, only chests that dispense tokens.

Then we are realized that Destiny 1's bars bones RPG elements were almost gone entirely. No expansive skill tress, no cool ability enhancing items, no finding some NPC to give you an involved story driven quest. And of course, the near complete destruction of the lore. Having it be reduced to tidbits of info on scannable items.

And those issues stem from a constant problem with Bungie and Destiny; Bungies insistence on, stupidly "innovating* in established concepts, often to the detriment of the game. Games of have been doing written in-game lore for years. Bungie, you don't always have to reinvent the wheel, sometimes the best thing to do isn't to come up with a new idea, but to take an established one and make it better. Instead of getting gamings wide known ideas of dungeons, and lore and NPC's, we get Bungies inferior, "streamlined" versions.

Bungee, the book has already been written on lore, and storytelling, raids, dungeons, open worlds, etc. All you needed to do and all of we've always wanted was for those things to be in Destiny.

So, then why is everyone so upset about D2? Because that mythical vision of Destiny we've all be chasing? We all hoped, we prayed D2 would be that, instead it came nowhere close. So it begs the question, if Bungie couldn't do it this time, with a whole new game can they ever do it? Maybe not.

Some will say wait for D3, but we all waited all of D1 and now we're supposed to wait for D3? We have no reason to believe that vision of Destiny we all fell in love with ever existed or will ever exist. If you read Jason Scheiers articles, you would know D2 was rebooted around a year and a half before release, people left the company, the story was rebooted, etc. The same thing that happened with D1. I think many of us have to come to terms with the fact that the idea, the notion that has kept us hooked on Destiny for so long, that all that potential could be something great, may just never happen.

Bungie, it's time for you to make a statement on the XP cooldown. The Clarion call is completely pointless.

Posted: 18 Nov 2017 01:15 PM PST

Original post for those who don't know about it yet

Essentially, the longer you play, the less XP that you get. The game tries to obfuscate this by showing the correct XP amount even though the XP bar barely increases at all. This "cooldown" makes the Clarion Call a literally pointless event since you're probably only getting that bonus XP for like 20-30 minutes before the cooldown kicks in.

This is the same type of lootbox limiting system that EA was caught using in Battlefront II, and there's no reason this sub shouldn't be up in arms about it until we get an official Bungie response.

PC (and console) players, would you be happy if Bungie brought back and updated Destiny's original patrol zones as well as the Dreadnaught for D2 in the future?

I'm seeing a few Guardians protest against this because it would be recycling content, but personally, I'd be hyped to return to our old stomping grounds as well as see the new PC crowd who didn't get to play D1 explore and discover these areas for themselves.
