[BotW] How armour & weapons work (Plus some extra stuff) [X-Post From r/Breath_of_the_Wild]

Posted: 04 Jul 2017 08:02 PM PDT

So some people may know this other people may not but I did some testing and found some interesting stuff.

Armour

One armour point gives you 1/4 hearts of defense. So to find your defense in hearts, divide your armour value by 4. This 'heart value' is subtracted from the amount of damage the weapon has to come to the amount of damage that you take. There is an exception though. When your armour value is larger than the weapon's attack, you will take a quarter of a heart.

Weapons

Same thing with armour. One damage is 1/4 heart, two is 1/2 a heart and 4 is a full heart. A fun thing we can do with this information is calculate enemy health in hearts. For example a silver lynel (5000HP) divided by 4 = 1250 hearts. 4000% more than link can have. But thats all we can do with weapons.

Enemy Colours

Damage an enemy does is relative to its weapon not its colour. A silver enemy with a tree branch is less of a threat than a blue enemy with savage lynel weapons. However enemy colours do have an effect on damage dealt.

Red enemies do the damage that the weapon says. A red bokoblin with a boko club will deal one heart of damage. With a spiked boko club it will deal three.

Blue enemies Do the damage that the weapon says + 1 heart of damage. That blue bokoblin with the spiked club on the great plateau is designed to one shot you.

Black enemies. From what I found, they do damage + 2 hearts. I couldn't find many to test on though.

Silver enemies. This is what surprised me the most. Silver enemies (tested on bokoblin and moblin) deal weapon damage + 50%.

Elemental lizalfos. From what I found, they are treated the same as silver enemies dealing 50% extra damage.

TL;DR One point of armor blocks 1/4 of a heart of oncoming damage. Weapons deal 1/4 of a heart per attack value. Certain enemy colours increase damage that they deal.

Does anyone think that Majora's boss fight is too easy?

Posted: 05 Jul 2017 06:53 AM PDT

Every guide I read said that the fight would be difficult but I found it to be really easy, even without the fierce diety mask and 10 hearts you just have to z target, block, shoot arrow, hit Majora, repeat, the most difficult one for me was the first phase because it was the one that took the longest to beat.

Has anyone else had this experience?

Using warp points from zeldamaps.com, I decided to calculate the optimal place for the Travel Medallion using GIS (x-post from /r/NintendoSwitch)

I can't put it on my CV. I am still super proud of this!

Possible glitch or oversight in BOTW?

So I was playing Master Mode and in the area near Hestu's Maracas I came across this. Any clues?

So... what now?

After Breath of the Wild, it feels kind of awkward going back to the formula that Ocarina of Time started.

(But then again, people said the same about the "original" formula when Ocarina of Time was made, and they've been making both variations ever since)

But still, it feels like Breath of the Wild has put Zelda to the point where they "can't go back" to the older formulas.

Yet if they continue going down the Breath of the Wild route, I can't imagine how any sequel can be made.

Master Mode goals

Posted: 05 Jul 2017 08:24 AM PDT

Alright, so I finally decided to try out master mode and I'm enjoying it so far. This is my second playthrough so I don't exactly remember everything but I know quite a few monster locations have changed. So far I'm still at 3 hearts and I've gotten all of the rune upgrades, I'm working on trying to get the ancient armour early and then I might try and do a divine beast. What have you guys accomplished so far?

Does anyone have high res pictures of the Divine Beasts in "2D", from the opening cutscene or the loading screen?

For example, the stencil look when they're portrayed as icons. Need to get these in high-res for a tattoo, thanks fellow Hylians!

Did anybody else use the Wolf Link Amiibo far less than they thought they would?

Posted: 05 Jul 2017 04:11 AM PDT

I rushed out to pick up and complete Twilight Princess HD a week before BOTW came out expecting to use Wolf Link a ton, in reality I used him about twice on the plateau and haven't used him since, maybe it will change when I get the switch version tomorrow but on the Wii u I haven't really used him anywhere near as much as I thought I would.
