Pokémon GO - Pokemon Go Fest Megathread

Pokemon Go Fest Megathread

Posted: 19 Jul 2017 09:15 PM PDT

The Pokemon Go Fest is being held this Saturday, July 22nd in Grant Park, Chicago.

Please use this Megathread to discuss about the events, inside or outside of the park. This does not restrict you from posting about it, though.

This event will involve three tiers of challenges, for both players attending with tickets and other players worldwide.

For players not coming to the Fest - like the mods:

Firstly, you can catch up with the events inside from Niantic's Stream

Remember, you determine how long the bonuses will be and whether we get Tier 2 or not, no pressure we are totally not depending on you! So, if you want to catch a Lugia or something, you better catch Pokemon like your lives depend on it!

We strongly recommend hooking up with local groups - lure parties would be the best way of boosting the global catch count, especially since Niantic conveniently made the challenge duration the same as a lure duration!

For players coming to the Fest:

Focus on the six given types: Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Rock, and Normal!

You determine what everyone else gets, so don't disappoint us!

Remember, Tier 2 will be held in the evening, so be prepared for a whole-day session of Pokemon Go. Carry Water and Battery Packs to recharge yourself and your smartphone of choice.

Tier 1: Catch Challenge will be unlocked by default

This challenge will run in three, 30-minute sessions. The times are 11:00-11:30, 13:00-13:30, and 15:00-15:30, all in CDT Local Time (GMT -5).

Location Challenge Rewards Status
Global Catch as many Pokemon as possible Bronze/Silver: Extended Bonus Period. Gold: Unlocking Mystery Challenge.
Chicago Catch Fire-type Pokemon Candy Bonus
Chicago Catch Water-type Pokemon XP Bonus
Chicago Catch Grass-type Pokemon Stardust Bonus
Chicago Catch Electric-type Pokemon Egg Distance Bonus
Chicago Catch Rock-type Pokemon Buddy Distance Bonus
Chicago Catch Normal-type Pokemon Encounter Rate Bonus

Tier 2: Mystery Challenge will be unlocked if and only if trainers worldwide catch enough Pokemon in the three 30-minute timeframes!

If Trainers everywhere catch enough Pokémon during Pokémon GO Fest on July 22, 2017, the debut Legendary Pokémon will be unveiled at the Grand Park. This will be an epic legendary raid battle which is they defeat it will unlock tier 3!

Tier 3: Global Reward will be unlocked if and only if trainers in Grant Park manages to complete Tier 2!

If the attendees at the Grand Park manages to take out the legendary raid boss there will spawn legendary pokémon all around the world starting from July 23, 2017!

Legendaries:

From our knowledge the Legendary pokémon that will be available from the start are

  • Moltres

  • Articuno

  • Zaptos

  • Lugia

These might be the first to be released followed by more Legendary pokémon, we don't know yet. These 4 also have an added shiny sprite added to the game! Be sure to share if you catch a shiny legendary!

New Boxes in the shop!

Posted: 21 Jul 2017 05:56 PM PDT

One thing Pokemon Go has taught me: never assume who is a player. Was about to start a raid after buying rodeo tickets for the evening and three cowboys showed up. Them: "You here for the raid?" Me: "You mean the rodeo?" Them: "No, Pokemon!"

I thought they were going to yell at me to go away, I was too close to the horses or something, and I was all ready with my "it's a public park" argument, but they were surprised I was trying to take on Alakazam by myself. What's the most surprised you've been that someone was a fellow player?

Is Pokémon Go Fest a scam?

Posted: 21 Jul 2017 06:14 AM PDT

Maybe Niantic is recreating the Pokémon: The First Movie plot and luring you all to this party (or fest in this case) in an elaborate attempt to steal all of your Pokémon. Think about it, that movie is where Ash and his friends encountered the legendary Mew and Mewtwo for the first time, and now Niantic is promising us to see legendaries for the first time during this event. I for one will not be attending Pokémon Go Fest for this reason. It has nothing to do with not being able to afford the ticket.

Any thoughts?

LPT: If you see a Golem in a gym, take over that gym.

Posted: 21 Jul 2017 04:37 AM PDT

With legendary raids just around the corner and Golem being the best pokemon to use for them, and the fact that legendary raids will probably require many high level people with good pokemon, make sure that everyone has their Golems out of gyms and ready to battle.

Have Raid Bosses gotten stronger?

Posted: 21 Jul 2017 05:38 PM PDT

Have you noticed raid bosses getting harder to defeat in the last couple of hours? What should have been an easy level 4 raid ended in failure. Also solo'd a level 3 raid a few days ago, and couldn't even come close to beating it a few hours ago. Have you noticed any change in the raid bosses?

Why isn't there a medal for getting x amount of excellent throws?

Posted: 21 Jul 2017 04:48 PM PDT

I've been bothered about this for a while now, because when I first started playing, I took screenshots of these throws. After the 20th throw I stopped doing that. Not being able to share the stat feels rather unrewarding.

Seems like a m'edal people actually would want to boast about and it doesn't require grinding. Instead you can show off your skill!

[Complaint] Can you make "Nearby raid starting soon" NOT clickable?

Posted: 21 Jul 2017 06:52 PM PDT

Or just drop the banner altogether, or just display it one time.

As we all know, the app is prone to crashing. Where I live there tend to be many raids going on at once, right now 8. When I start the app I'm inundated with "Nearby raid starting soon" for each raid, and you can't easily play the game while these messages are happening. I've accidentally clicked the bar about a dozen times and deliberately clicked it zero times.
