Legendary Priorities

Posted: 25 Jul 2017 01:14 PM PDT

Overheard at a Lugia raid today:

Man 1: Don't start yet! A girl posted on Facebook that she's on her way!

Man 2: But we're on lunch, time is ticking.

Man 1: What if she's cute? What if you meet her and you catch a future wife?

Man 2: I'd rather catch a Lugia.

Legendary raids are helping me with my depression and my anxiety.

Posted: 25 Jul 2017 03:27 PM PDT

I have depression and the last months have been very difficult to me. I'm always sad and aphathetic feeling nothing but sadness and anger. I also have anxiety and interacting with people I don't know is always painful to me.

But then the legendary raids came. In the last few months I didn't have any motivation to do anything or leave my house. But in the last few days I get up early to catch raids, then I get back home and leave again. I interact with people I've never seen before without any trouble. I took an Uber today with a guy I had never met before. That was unimaginable four days ago. I feel so excited when I catch a legendary. I don't even remember the last time I was so excited about something.

This may seem stupid for those who don't play this game, but it made happy for the first time in months. Thank you, Pokémon GO.

They're legends, not gods. Lugia is a Flying/Psychic Snorlax, and Articuno is a Flying/Ice Vaporeon.

Posted: 25 Jul 2017 01:35 PM PDT

Lugia's effective bulk = 68476 - Snorlax's effective bulk = 60800 - Lugia is +12.6%

Lugia's attack = 193 - Snorlax's attack = 190 - Lugia is +1.6%

Articuno's effective bulk = 44820 - Vaporeon's effective bulk = 46020 - Vaporeon is +3%

Articuno's attack = 192 - Vaporeon's attack = 205 - Vaporeon is +7%

If you don't have one yet don't sweat it.

[Story] Some kids hunted me down in a park

Posted: 24 Jul 2017 11:08 PM PDT

So a funny/cute thing happened to me this afternoon. I was chilling at out local park with a friend and our kids. The kids were off playing so we were chatting and I dropped a couple lures to take advantage of the bonuses.

About 20 mins later some kids, about 12 yrs old or So, walk up and ask "Are you carhop79?" I chuckled that they tracked me down by my trainer name and confirmed that yes I was who they thought. "Can you help us with a n Alakazam raid please?" I really didn't want to wander a block away for a raid i didn't need to do (have an abra nest near me so I have lots of Alakazams). They looked so bloody heartbroken and I felt like a monster. I looked at my friend and she said to go and she'd watch my kids.

Man these kids were so friggen happy I agreed to help. We beat it No problem (I'm lvl 33 so can do that one with my eyes closed) and the joy on their faces and the whooping and hollering from the ones that caught it was awesome. Totally worth the raid pass to make those kids happy. I really love what this game has done for my community.

Edit: Wow thanks for the gold kind stranger! My first gold!

Verizon points the finger at Niantic for problems that led to Pokémon Go fiasco

[story] Today I hit level 40 - and probably had an experience with a group of people that exercised a demon or two!

Posted: 25 Jul 2017 02:03 PM PDT

As a bit of a socially "reclusive" person, I never thought that a tad over a year after downloading Pokemon Go to see what the fuss was I would not only be celebrating level 40 - but I'd be doing it whilst raiding legendary Pokemon with a group of a dozen plus people in my town.

Today has felt almost like a party day for me. Work for the past two days has meant I've not been able to do any of the legendary raids, however I've ended the day having caught both the legendary's currently out (3 Articuno's out of 4 and 1 Lugia out of 2), catching a Lapras and a Tyranitar from 4 star raids and also finally smashing level 40.

I've been quite active on our local FB page for a while over the past year and was very pleased with socialising with 3/4 new people in the past year due to the game and also getting on "head nodding terms" with a couple of others. The raids today have seen about 15 different people come out for them, people on the page that I knew from there, but putting names to faces, as well as talking to them was very pleasing. As was hearing several say they had been watching my progress and congratulating me on hitting the 40.

I envisaged when this game came out a year ago I'd play it, probably with my head down and on my own, not really bothering with gyms etc.. as I preferred my own company and am quite uncomfortable around people I don't know. I've ended today surrounded by people who were strangers to me (other than sharing a FB group) fighting legendary's, having a laugh and having fun.

I've also covered 3528KM in the past year - and for someone who would normally order a taxi to go from the top of my road to the bottom to pick my supper up I can't tell you how good that is for me (not to mention the plus side to my health, walking 20,000 steps almost every day!)

I know its "only" a game, but I can't look past all the positive experiences I've had in the past year. Not only has it got me out more and got me more active, but its actually helped me break down a few social barriers too.

Now all I need to do is find that Unown to be UK complete!!!

TLDR - I'm a bit socially awkward, just hit level 40, surrounded by a dozen plus people fighting legendary raids - the exact thing that a year ago would have made me panic.

I had an idea for adding Mew to the game

Posted: 25 Jul 2017 07:00 PM PDT

I haven't seen this posted before so I thought I'd give it a shot. Mew has always had quite a few connections to ditto, namely being the only other Pokemon that can learn transform. As such, I thought it would be interesting if instead of releasing mew as a raid boss, Niantic released Mew as the "ditto" of raid bosses, where there was a very small chance that any given raid could be showing another pokemon, but after the raid boss was defeated, players would get a splash screen akin to the "Oh?" when you catch a ditto and get a chance to catch Mew instead.

I feel like this helps keep the sort of mystique around mew that has always existed. It doesn't seem right to see mew out in the open, so making him this rare encounter that could be anywhere would help to maintain that shroud of mystery.

[Story] Pokémon Go has changed me.

Posted: 25 Jul 2017 09:09 AM PDT

I was out on my morning grind and noticed a freshly captured gym. After I hustled up to add a Snorlax, a young woman in workout clothes came jogging up with her phone out. She was very attractive and not wearing much. But all I could think was, "Don't touch my gym!" I cranked up the volume on my phone and started spamming berries until she left.

I saved my gym, but at what cost?
