hotslogs alternative is coming...

Posted: 15 Jul 2017 06:07 PM PDT

Given all the posts over that last month or so about hotslogs and needing an alternative, I thought I'd make a small announcement. We're not quite ready for a full launch, but we're working hard and I wanted to let everyone know that something is coming.

Intro
So we've got a small team working hard to make an alternative to hotslogs. The goal of our site to help you improve your play through data. We want to help you figure out where you're strong and where you're weak. We're not too worried about MMR or leaderboards. Those are things to brag about, not help you improve.

So what's done now?
Right now you can upload replays, see your matches, and view stats for them. We're working on player hero stats, ability to choose metrics to track for yourself, and player comparisons (so you can compare everyone on your team on Dehaka for instance).

Will there be ads?

No! We hate ads too. Eventually we may offer a patreon and/or premium option that gives you some bonus features. Our goal isn't to make money. We're doing this for the community and because we want to use these tools ourselves. If we decide to add a way of bringing in money, it'll just be to cover our costs. If there's anything left over, maybe we'll host some tournaments or something. This is an area we want to be highly transparent about. It's a side project for us, not our source of income.

What about winrates and talent builds?

This is important and we've got it in the works, but until the number of uploads is significant, we realize it's value is low. So hopefully this takes off enough to make this valuable. I also recently saw in one of the other threads that someone is working on an open log project. This is something that we would fully support and contribute to as much as we can.

Is there an uploader?

Yes! At this point it doesn't do a lot and still needs some work, but I've been running it for 3 weeks straight without issue. We'd love some more help testing it though. :)

Why do this if an API is coming?

I think there is a lot of confusion about what an API is. It's just data. You still need a website to use that data. So, when Blizzard releases the API, we'll take full advantage of it. At this point, nobody knows what data they're going to expose. They may have detailed data, they may just give hero winrates, nobody knows. When it's released, we'll use it to it's full potential.

Can I check it out?
Sure! If you don't mind some bugs and oddities, you're welcome to have a look around. The website is http://www.hotsdata.com

EDIT: FYI: Due to a large upload queue it'll take awhile for new replays to show up.

[BUG] Chromie's ultimate Temporal Loop is glitched in multiple ways, with proof.

Posted: 15 Jul 2017 02:08 PM PDT

I was playing a game of Hero League earlier with a Chromie, and it seemed like half of the time she used her ult, the targets were completely unaffected by it, without Unstoppable effects. So I watched the replays and checked it out.

Here in the first gif Chromie uses her ultimate on the Kharazim, he tries to dash away and then Rewinds halfway and gets stuck behind a friendly tower which was in the way of him and the ultimate.

In both my second and my third gifs you can see Chromie Ulting Illidan, and as he would be pulled back because of the Ult, he uses his Q, diving over someone, and moving him completely out of the way of the ult. Basically, if Illidan Qs right when he would be pulled by Chromie's ult, he cancels it.

These are just 2 different glitches I found in 1 game for her Temporal Loop. Hopefully this has helped!

Wow. Blown away, but lost.

Posted: 15 Jul 2017 11:18 AM PDT

I'm not new to mobas, been playing league since 2012 but quit recently because the champions lost their shine. Transitioned to other games yada yada I'll spare you the details. Today, my cousin said lets go to the internet cafe and play HotS. Absolutely loved it (except for no items but I can get used to it.) However, I had no clue what I was doing. Literally just ran around as Jaina getting kills, capturing ravens if they happened to be up and I noticed them, sometimes pushing.

I'm currently reading through the guides on the sidebar but I love watching videos/streams. Are their any youtubers that do gameplays/guides that I should no about, and any players that consistently stream so I can watch them?

Thank you in advance.

Brawl idea: hide and seek

Posted: 15 Jul 2017 05:47 PM PDT

I'm imagining an all abathur match on towers of doom with forts disabled. Killing abathur would reward a shot, like the Nova brawl, but getting a locust into the kill zone would also reward a shot. For more peril, abathur could have one hp.

Breakdown of Who Qualifies for the Western Clash [Spoilers]

Posted: 15 Jul 2017 05:14 PM PDT

Believe it or not Trikslyr was right. We have a five way tie for 2nd and 3rd in EU. Zealots could still technically qualify.

EU

If Zealots beat Tricked and GG they'd be 4-3. From there they need Tricked to beat Dig and Liquid to lose to Expert. If Tricked beats Dig, but loses to Zealots both teams would be 4-3 and Zealots would win the tie breaker. However Expert has to beat Liquid otherwise Expert wins the 4-3 tie breaker against Zealots.

With Liquid falling to Zealots, Expert has a really good chance of qualifying so long as Tricked doesn't blow out their next two opponents and go 5-2.

For Dig to qualify, they need Expert to beat Liquid and they can't lose to Tricked.

For Liquid to qualify, all they need to do is beat Expert.

NA

For NA, with Tempo's victory over Roll 20, we already know who is going to the Western Clash. There is no more chances for anymore shakeups outside of the miracle of ED beating GFE or NT. The 3 representing NA are GFE, TF, and NT. Even if No Tomorrow loses to Roll 20 and Tempo wins vs Team Freedom, NT still qualifies because they win the tie breaker vs Tempo due to beating them.

This is all so convoluted and confusing that I would be surprised if the first comment I got wasn't "My brain...." My feedback for how standings are handled in the future would be to just go off games won vs losses. Don't go off this fallacious "Who beat who" logic because really it's just circular reasoning. Just to name one of the many paradoxes created by this rule, Liquid beat Dig who beat Zealots who beat Liquid.....even further Zealots lost to Expert 0-3 but Expert beat Dig.

See it just doesn't hold up, it's all incredibly inconsistent. So just go by the game numbers and not the series. If a series is a 3-2 that should count for the losing team because the series was super close! It meant that it could have gone either way and so the losing team still deserves a chance to over take that team in the standings.

[Poll] Which unnamed units or enemies can you see as possible Heroes of the Storm characters?

Posted: 15 Jul 2017 12:55 PM PDT

G'day Community!

As promised, it is Saturday and a new survey is up. As @-WakaJawaka- suggested, I looked into the unnamed units of the Blizzard universe and had to notice that there's a lot of characters who made it into DOTA. With that it was clear that just because the are "no-names", they too could end up as heroes. But as with last weeks polls, there are simply too many choices. So here, for future polls sake, you can choose all the units you think could make the cut to be implemented as heroes. You can see this as a culling, where numbers are cut down to give a clearer picture on who the people want. To drive the necessity for this home: This poll has 122 characters. Last weeks polls had about 200. If you were asked to chose the one character among 322 different ones, from different universes, that you want to see ingame, what do you think how well that would turn out?

So please, take a second and pick a few possible heroes:

--- > What unnamed units do you see as possible Heroes of the Storm characters?

The poll will run for 3 weeks, end on 5 August, and I will post reminders, updates and possibly new surveys every Saturday on reddit and the dedicated Twitter.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask away. If a question is formulated poorly, please inform me. If you have to downvote the topic, I'd appreciate your feedback in the comments.

Other currently running surveys:

--- > What Warcraft Characters do you think fit in Heroes of the Storm? Ends: 29 July

--- > What Starcraft Characters do you think fit in Heroes of the Storm? Ends: 29 July

--- > General questions about Skins in HotS July 2017 Ends: 22 July (FINAL WEEK TO VOTE)

HotS is More Nuance That the Majority of the In-Game Community Thinks/Acts

Posted: 15 Jul 2017 05:48 PM PDT

The community seems to tunnel vision on either constantly fighting or constantly going for the objective saying things like "the objective wins the game" when the game is in reality far more nuanced. This community is probably the worst for it as Blizzard basically shoves the objectives in your face when you play and highlight how objectives are insanely important.

I think this lead to people not considering other options and tunnel visioning really hard on objectives.

For those who haven't seen the forums in a while, Blizzard developers are crazy active.

Posted: 14 Jul 2017 11:40 PM PDT

I just went onto the forums and saw a huge slew of Blizzard responses, going into balance, animation and all sorts of things. I'm 100% a fan, and it's really awesome being able to discuss things with Blizzard employees.

Examples:

Chen discussion

Insights into animator's job

From the front page a while back, Captain adab himself

QoL changes being acknowledged

Again from a while back, Cocoon changes being communicated in advance

Acknowledgement of our acknowledgement

More acknowledgement of our acknowledgement

Right now it's just a few Blizzard employees being fairly active, but they're roping others into their little scheme :)

(P.S. BlizzLana, you're awesome.)

As KT when you living bomb a zagara's nydus network it uses the ability and starts the cooldown but it does NO damage to the nydus network and the living bomb is not applied.

Was kind of weird to see this interaction and I assume its a bug?

From Dota 2 to HotS

Posted: 15 Jul 2017 08:40 AM PDT

Hi everyone! As my title say, I come from Dota2 cause the community is too toxic.

I spend 2000 hours on Dota2 so some mechanics are familiar but I have some questions:

How the lanes are divided? Anyone can go anywhere? Tower's aggro is based on the nearest hero/creep? What is a good lineup?

How Often Do Mirror Matches Happen? (with QM Rules)

Posted: 15 Jul 2017 08:04 AM PDT

Yesterday, I posted an computation of data from HotSLogs to determine how often a mirror match would occur per hero, but I didn't take into account QM matchmaking rules. A helpful comment provided some of the basics that I ought to include, so I redid the calculations! This doesn't feature the code or math behind the work, if you want to see that go to this post instead! Instead, I'll be analyzing the current state of QM hero popularity and how that fits into mirror matches. Thanks to /u/Moldybeef for providing the QM rules to recalculate the data!

Without further ado, here's the updated table:

Hero Percent of Matches This Week Probability of Mirror Match Difference With QM Rules

Sylvanas 1.85 45.72 -1.06
Tassadar 1.63 42.28 1.12
The Butcher 2.37 56.94 -2.73
The Lost Vikings 0.36 8.99 -0.94
Thrall 1.83 45.35 -1.41
Tracer 2.01 49.82 -0.13
Tychus 1.16 29.49 0.75

Valla 3.09 71.32 -2.19
Varian 2.18 52.9 -1.82
Xul 1.26 32.23 -0.38
Zagara 1.22 31.16 -0.75
Zarya 0.72 22.07 2.58
Zeratul 1.52 37.91 -0.27
Zul'jin 1.28 32.63 -0.77

The total matches did increase after pulling additional data from HotSLogs to 10241611. Most of the changes that occurred were a few percentage points being added or subtracted from tanks and healers. Because of how QM rules work that any one hero will have its likelihood of a mirror match increased or decreased relative to its popularity. So, logically, if Rehgar is the more popular healer, then since the enemy team must also have a healer it is relatively more likely to be Rehgar. On the whole, this doesn't tend to affect assassins, though a few shifted around due to their subroles. The most significant changes were with Murky (-4.95%), Abathur (-5.19%), and Anub'arak (+4.52%). Interestingly, while most tanks and healers increased in the probability of a mirror match, Arthas, Kharazim, Tyrael, Sonya, and Uther saw less than a percentage point of change.

So, what does this all mean? If you're looking to avoid mirror matches as much as possible, try playing one of the heroes with a lower probability. Right now, the most likely mirror matches are going to be for Malthael, Li-Ming, Valla, Nova, Nazeebo, and Genji in QM, with each hovering at or above 70% chance of a mirror match. The characters least likely to get a mirror match are The Lost Vikings, Cho'Gall, Chen, Rexxar, ETC, and Zarya, each below 20% chance of getting a mirror match.

That's all for this analysis! Thanks for reading, and, if you have any questions, I'll be glad to answer them.

HGC Europe :: Fnatic (5-0) vs Team Dignitas (3-2) :: Discussion Thread

Posted: 15 Jul 2017 08:00 AM PDT

Previous match thread: HGC North America :: Roll20 esports (3-1) vs Team Freedom (4-1) :: Discussion Thread.

The Mid-Season Brawl Champions and runners-up will meet for the first time since that fateful night in Sweden when Fnatic clinched the win and hoisted the trophy at DreamHack Summer. Team Dignitas have had a rough go of things since then, and are currently sitting in fourth place in the European standings following losses against Team Liquid and Team expert. They also had an incredibly close 3-2 series against Team Good Guys, who have clawed their way into the HGC from the Open Division through the Crucible.

Team Dignitas will have to channel the same strength they displayed at the Mid-Season Brawl that allowed them to win nine Battlegrounds against Korea in order to improve their chances of attending the Western Clash. If not, things become far more complicated for a team that has never once missed an international LAN event in their longstanding competitive history.

Guys, i can't accept it. It's NOT acceptable. I always put mark when i can secure kill, but now i became a little dirty and put mark for 0,1 - 0,5 sek before death. And you know what? When i got kill i got : no sadism, no mark refresh cooldown, and see how a dead hero got my mark at heavens. As you can see here: http://imgur.com/a/kUM8x
