"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." - Ferris Bueller

True back then, true today. Life does move pretty fast, just as posts move pretty fast on /r/DestinyTheGame. Once a week, "This Week in /r/DestinyTheGame History" brings you some of the gems from this time last year. It's a walk down memory lane to give some perspective of where we were and how things have (or haven't) changed in the last trip around the Sun.

Maybe you made the post, maybe you saw the post, maybe you missed the post. Relive it or discover it for the first time. Either way, we hope you enjoy this blast from the past.

  1. I animated the current Foundry logos.
  2. Needless to say my raid team thought I was an idiot until I uploaded this. Thanks a lot Oryx
  3. Decided to edit the amazing gameinformer cover image and turned it into a Wallpaper without the name of the magazine.
  4. Destiny anime intro
  5. World of Warcraft's new expansion Legion has a pretty cool Destiny easter egg, a vendor named Xur'ios who sells rotating items for curious coins
  6. What Xur's perspective must be like..
  7. Rise of Iron to grace GameInformer September cover
  8. Unpopular opinion: This game needs to go back to having SOME extremely rare loot, not just rare rolls of easily obtained items.
  9. GameInformer Rise of Iron Issue Megathread
  10. I'd like to take a minute to thank the true heroes, people who load into a losing match and stay.

The Beginning and the End. (Panorama)

Posted: 29 Jul 2017 03:26 AM PDT

Guardian... Guardian? Eyes up Guardian!

From the moment we are reborn as a Guardian of the Light until the moment we sit on a Fallen Ketch overlooking Old Russia with our Ghost by our side this area of Destiny has always been incredibly memorable and holds a special place in the heart of many Guardians, myself included.

I wanted to immortalise the area as well as show how it has evolved as our adventures have progressed so I (as always) decided to make a panorama of the locations.

Now this was my largest panorama I've created, using just under 100 photos to capture the essence of the area.

I started off by making the Vanilla panorama, but then wanted to try and show the difference between the Vanilla and RoI wall, and ended up splicing ha the two to make an incredible image.

The Full Vanilla Panorama can be found here.

The Full Rise of Iron Panorama can be found here.

The Half and Half Panorama can be found here.

(And a 2000x200 version can be found here.)

I'm currently working on a portfolio of Destiny 1 Panorama images so if you have any location/ideas for them please do let me know as I love creating them!

Hopefully you like this one, but as always please let me know of any feedback you have!

Hidden Sentinel Move / Secrets

Posted: 29 Jul 2017 07:49 AM PDT

So, I was listening to the very informative Destiny Community Podcast and True Vanguard revealed a new discovery.

Sentinel Titan has some combos that are inherently great, and I figured I'd share with the community.

While in Super you can press Melee, then follow it up with a Primary Fire for a "lunge attack" that will close distance very fast. This allows you to close a gap between you and a target faster.

Also while in Super you can block incoming damage while pressing L2/LT, but you do INCREASED damage after absorbing damage.

So, the aim here is to block incoming damage until you are close, then lunge with a melee and then follow up with a shield bash.

Destiny 2 IGN First Bungie AMA a question updated

Posted: 29 Jul 2017 11:37 AM PDT

IGN user BlackSuitSpider asks: With the Resilience, Recovery, & Agility on the armor now, will the armor have a visual look to it that reflects the boosts on it? For example, High Resilience - Heavy Armor, High Agility - Sleeker, Thinner armor.

Luke Smith: With each piece of armor, the design team considered its visuals before assigning stats to it. For instance, armor that looks thick and defensive armor is assigned the Heavy designation, which prioritizes Resilience and Recovery. Our goal with Resilience, Recovery, and Mobility is that these are stats players can feel while they are playing, e.g., a High Mobility Warlock running a Lightweight weapon is going to zoom around the battlefield more than a Warlock who has prioritized Resilience or Recovery. Adding additional Resilience, Recovery, or Mobility to a piece of armor is just one use for the much-discussed mod slot on armor in Destiny 2.

Previously the answer was just a "Nope." and IGN didnt even say they updated/edited the post.

Would you horde mode?

Posted: 29 Jul 2017 02:36 AM PDT

I know i'd love it's inclusion.

2 different types. Reward amount/quality is based on how long you survive with the maximum level rewarding a very unique shader, emote, and emblem.

A strike team (3-4) faces off against increasing number of mobs (red and yellow bars).

A raid team (6) faces off against increasing number of bosses.

Id love to see the terrain warp and change as well, but seemlessly like the beta strike, not like PoE.

Lemme know what you think guardians!

Why were we away from the tower at the start of Homecoming?

Posted: 29 Jul 2017 07:00 AM PDT

In the beta we saw our ship flying away from an area and speeding to the tower. The question is why were we there? Do you guys think we will get a mission prior to homecoming that sends us away from the tower? Or do you guys think it's just our luck that we weren't in the tower at the time of the attack. Personally I think it would be pretty cool if we got a mission about some "signal" or sighting by someone, or even a hint about a fleet but the vanguard didn't take it seriously and just sent us to check it out.

[Rubble thought] So Efrideet and her merry band of Guardians must get very confused when suddenly all their light goes. Has anyone considered those poor dears?

Our guardians will be completely mute in D2

Posted: 29 Jul 2017 09:09 AM PDT

I am reserving judgment until I play through the campaign. I just wanted to see what everyone else's opinion is on this. I am not I love with the idea and think it will probably detract from the impact powerful emotional moments have in the story. They are doing it this way so you are completely in your guardians shoes and so it feels like your guardian IS you. But not speaking when spoken to feels jarring and makes the character feel unrelateable in my opinion. Let me know you opinions :)

Bungie, Please Release the Raid in 2 Weeks After Launch so that Players Will Not Rush Through Destiny 2

Posted: 28 Jul 2017 09:09 PM PDT

Is it just me, or was the Tower's last stand kinda weak?

Posted: 28 Jul 2017 01:54 PM PDT

We are GUARDIANS, the Will of the Traveler, the Hope of Humanity, yet all the mighty Vanguard could do when directly attacked was...pop a bubble shield? What? No AA fire? No missiles or machine guns?! Nothing???

So does Ghaul show up and get a mission report like "yeah boss, they just keep coming back to life. Can't get though them, can't get around them."

"Well, have we tried flying over the Wall?"

"..."

"Do their ships have any weapons?"

"...nah."

"Does the Wall have any noteworthy defenses?"

"...it's got sensors."

"No firepower?"

"Negatory."

"So... why haven't we tried flying over it?"

"It's really tall."

And thus the Cabal forged their ingenious plan to fly over the wall, yet all we could do was watch Ikora kill one, single fighter??

Sorry, this has been bugging me since I played through Homecoming.

The Speaker in the Raid?

Posted: 29 Jul 2017 05:58 AM PDT

Just had this strange thought for all you guardians to discuss, what if when facing Ghaul or whoever the final raid boss is we do it to free the Speaker? It would be quite interesting to fight in an scenario against the Boss with the Speaker chained watching the fight.

So I recorded my girlfriend fighting the Kell in the end of the second mission...

Posted: 28 Jul 2017 06:00 PM PDT

My girlfriend told me she wanted to play Destiny (in this hilarious text https://imgur.com/gallery/cfHUj) because she got in the mood for it for some reason so I created a new account and helped her create a guardian. I was honestly surprised by how quickly she picked up the controls, and I didn't help her at all besides guiding her in the right direction and giving her combat tips.

She died 5 times during the fight and it's in a darkness zone so she would have to restart the fight every time (which... upset her hahaha, she took a lap around my living room after her 3rd death to cool down). But when she finally beat it, her celebration was reminiscent of my own in many raiding experiences. Nowadays I don't get many experiences like that being the powerful guardians we are, but her excitement made me so happy and reminded me why I love this game so much.

Here's the video of the last little bit and her celebration, but I'll upload the full video later if anyone wants to hear her hysterical commentary (its gold).

https://youtu.be/YIPeNi9Mbbc

It seemed like she had a good time so fingers crossed, maybe she'll get into it and be on board for Destiny 2 :D

EDIT: Finally got the full video to upload on my trash internet. Since it wouldn't upload last night I was able to rotate it with my laptop today and now it's not vertical https://youtu.be/XhclwSCeZbw TL;DW Screw Dregs and "WHY WON'T MY CHARACTER RUN" (We've all been there). Also this screenshot of her initial celebration just keeps cracking me up https://imgur.com/gallery/4DTfH

Looking back at the Beta, I LOVE the Voidwalker's new grenade charge ability.

Posted: 28 Jul 2017 10:44 PM PDT

I used it with the vortex grenade and it felt like having a second nova bomb. Too cool. Really hope that ability is still there at launch.

Why do we have to go to a silly old farm? Pretty sure Gary forgot about the Iron Temple

Posted: 29 Jul 2017 05:51 AM PDT

Because you know...that's still a thing. Saladin & friends probably watched our tower burning to the ground and did jack! Let's all move there! And they have vaults!
