Theorycraft Thursday - Discuss Builds, Skills, Strategies, and More!

Posted: 04 May 2017 04:02 AM PDT

Welcome to Theorycraft Thursday, a community-building, regularly occurring thread in the subreddit!

MMO veterans will know that Theorycrafting is the core of many discussions about this genre of games, and ESO is no different.

With the high level of variance in builds, skills, and stats, there's plenty of room for Theorycrafting, and we want to see what you have to share with the community on that front.

Have a build you've experimented with? A particular skill or set of skills that synergize well? A strategy for PvE or PvP that works to great effect? Share it here!

If you're new, you can also use this thread to ask questions about viable builds and skills as well!

As always, please keep in mind our rules on the sidebar, especially the one about "no personal attacks, callouts, rude behavior, or other such disrespectful content".

Disagree respectfully and know that everyone has different ideas and playstyles that suit them.

Played the game for around 7 hours and I'm still level 8

Posted: 05 May 2017 12:27 AM PDT

and its the first MMORPG I've played where I don't mind the grind. In most other games level 8 is attainable within at least the first hour or less of questing/grinding.

Honestly after I started this game I didn't really notice my level because of how much fun I was having. There are so many places to explore.

I completed the quest where you have to protect the queen from an assassination plot then spent another few hours just exploring the overall area and completing side quests.

I also enjoy the customization and freedom in terms of combat. From what I've seen, I excel at using bows, daggers and even blood magic and other classes have multiple roles as well. I'm leaning more towards the bow build myself.

There is just so much depth on multiple levels in this game that sometimes I forget I'm even grinding.

I'm always excited and curious about what I'm going to run into the next time I'm playing.

It's safe to say that this is an MMORPG I like playing after trying out multiple titles such as FFXIV, BDO, BnS, Archeage and GW2.

[Discussion][PC] I Had a House Project but it's not Going to Work Out

Posted: 04 May 2017 04:19 PM PDT

I have always liked the loading screen for the small houses in ESO, so when I went into the Rosy Lion Inn room and saw it was the actual room from the loading screen, I wanted to recreate my house as an exact replica of the loading screen.

Things were going well until I ran into a problem.

This house only allows 30 items. There are 50 items shown in the art for the loading screen.

I made an attempt anyway, and here's as far as I got. But I'm pretty disappointed that the item limits are so low that you can't even do what ESO was inspired to do with the house for their art.

Results from my Study on Masculinity and MMO Motivation

Posted: 04 May 2017 03:33 PM PDT

Hi r/elderscrollsonline!

In December I posted here asking for help with my dissertation research and you sure delivered! ESO had a great response with 173 completed responses. Over all of reddit I got 785 complete responses in a little over two days. My advisors were blown away. I've posted the link to the results blog below, I'm happy to chat more about the project here if you all have any questions

http://mmopersonalitystudy.blogspot.com/

Thanks again! With my project done I'm one step closer to being done with graduate school (woo hoo for the 20th grade!)

login in issues ... enough already.

Posted: 05 May 2017 12:08 AM PDT

I have been playing for 4 months now and I enjoy the game but I have never experienced so much problems logging in, staying logged in, being randomly kicked out from the game , high lag, in any other mmo. group events are virtually impossible. I have checked my internet over and over again. It's disheartening and ruins my gaming experience in ESO. Not to mention some of the ridiculous buggs in game like being stuck inside a cliff side.

Anyone else feeling fed up with something similar?

Testing Out Morrowind Sustain on the Xbox One (or PS4)

Posted: 04 May 2017 03:34 PM PDT

Okay so ever since the release of the new patch notes, I decided to try my best to mimic how the sustain in Morrowind is set to be, right now on the live console server. I just wanted to give my method in case anyone wanted to try some new build tests on the Console under restraints similar to Morrowind, without having to get on the PTS. I'll just be covering the basic sustain areas, DPS is tough to mimic because of the front loaded CP system coming out.

Here is what I do:

Champion Points:

Thief:

0 Points into Magician and Warlord, as these will be removed with Morrowind.

Only put at maximum 15% into Mooncalf and Arcanist as these are being nerfed to that percentage.

----

Armor Passives:

Medium Armor

I put only 1 Point into Wind Walker, and wear only 5 pieces of Medium armor. Stamina abilities are going to be costing 5% more if I'm not mistaken and this passive is getting a Nerf. (Although when the patch hits live I believe 7/7 medium will be recommended.)

Light Armor

I put only 2 Points into Evocation, as that passive is getting nerfed to an amount similar to this. (7/7 Light armor is still okay for testing, and I believe will become the meta for Magicka)

----

Extra Tip:

I run with no cost reduction Glyphs on my Jewelry, but put 15% into Tenacity under the Thief CP Constellation. I then try to incorporate heavy attacks into my rotations.

That's basically it! 😊 Of course this isn't an exact percentage as to how Morrowind is going to be, and I know all the classes are getting their own unique nerfs to sustain, but this is just a general way to test lower sustain similar to the PTS. I've been able to make a few builds that sustain very well while still putting out great DPS using this method.

New player - I have an i7 CPU and a 1070 GTX GPU. Why do I get such lousy FPS?

Posted: 04 May 2017 06:14 PM PDT

As the title says, I've just begun playing and the performance is pretty crappy. I'm getting between 30-60fps when running around crowded areas, and will only experience the 'smooth' gameplay that I see in most ESO YouTube videos if I'm in a very small, secluded area (such as a cave etc).

I found a pretty big post from this sub from a year or two ago that had tons of ways to boost performance. I've done just about everything listed in that guide (except for CPU Core Unparking, as I did this a while ago with my old PC and it made it perform strangely), and still I haven't seen any huge improvement.

My only assumption is that the guide was written quite a while ago and might not be as relevant these days with all the patches that have come out since. I'm just wondering if anyone might be able to weigh in on what's wrong, or how to fix it?

Specs are:

  • i7 CPU (can't remember which one)
  • 1070 GTX GPU
  • 32gb DDR3 RAM
  • 144hz monitor

Any help would be hugely appreciated. It's such a beautiful game, it's pretty depressing that it has to perform so poorly. For the record, I also play Battlefield 1 on Ultra settings with very smooth FPS, and like I mentioned earlier I've seen this game performing amazingly in YouTube videos so I'm assuming this is a settings issue of some sort.

Thanks.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I'm trying to play at 1080P. Not 4k or anything outrageous like that.

EDIT2: The guide I'm referring to is this one - https://www.reddit.com/r/elderscrollsonline/comments/3jjoql/are_you_having_fps_issues_wih_eso_on_a_pc_well/?st=iqh6tqsw&sh=8a3305fb

It happens occasionally, but after the recent maintenance, I had been getting them at least twice an hour. Anyone experiencing this as well? And is there anything I could do to fix it.

Cheers guys :)

New player - guild types?

Posted: 05 May 2017 12:42 AM PDT

Hi.

I've been playing for 2-3 weeks now with my friends, but I guess at some point it will be wise to join a guild to progress further/faster. On the chat I noticed that most guilds that are advertising themselves are 'trading guilds' - can someone explain me how does it work?

To give a buff to nightblades, it would be nice if mark target boosted damage from behind

Posted: 04 May 2017 01:54 PM PDT

It just seems like Nightblades are left out of higher end content, and Nightblade style classes typically have backstab bonuses in other mmo's.

What I would pay for a faction change...

Posted: 04 May 2017 07:00 AM PDT

With things like the Adventurer's Pack already existing in the Crown Store, I don't see why faction changes aren't a thing. Sure, questing might get a little wonky, but changing factions could simply make you start with the main quest for the faction you swapped to (if you don't have it completed via Cadwell's Silver/ Gold), as if you were a fresh character. Everyone's reasoning for not having faction changes is 'you can just make a new character on the other faction,' but if you already have 300+ skill points starting a new character is a real, real downer.

[PS4] Finished vMA finally!

Posted: 05 May 2017 02:45 AM PDT

I just started playing ESO again last week after a 1year break. I had about 300CP and was wearing full cp150 blue julianos.

I was stuck on vma stage 4 from last year, I never really gave it a good attempt to I decided to look for a build, luckily enough turns out sorc pets had some buffs recently so I started farming :).

After about 2 days farming I had most of the gear I needed, was lucky enough to get a sharpened elegant inferno/lightning staves after only about 3 hours of farming! :D

So in love with this game now, love the title and the polymorph, time to grind a couple more gear upgrades so I can get everything to purple :). Heres the video of my finish at 360CP.

Back to Tamriel (questions from a returning adventurer)

Posted: 05 May 2017 02:41 AM PDT

Hi ! I don't know if my post is really useful or presentable, but after some researches I'm still in the blur...

I am a semi hardcore WoW player, doing PvE related content and progressing through mythic raiding with a competitive guild. Even if WoW is taking most of my free time, I remember that I've played ESO at launch (it's been a long time, and as a TES fan, I enjoyed a lot this adventure !). With new content arriving, and my love for Morrowind, the idea of returning into ESO is growing in my head.

That should be a great thing, I'm really going to enjoy this fresh new experience ! But after playing WoW/GW1 at high end PVE, I just can't going yolo on a new game and sadly, find hard to create a character without an idea of build or archetype that is solid and rewarding in PVE content. With the freedom of making anything you want in ESO, I feel lost even before choosing my class, fearing a wrong choice or a long-term weak character ...

My question is : Is there a meta for classes into PVE content, for damage dealers ? is there some combinations of race/classe/weapons that are known to be stong and more viable than others into dungeons/solo challenges ? If yes, is there some sites where we can find them ?

I could just begin the game and enjoying it by my way, but I really need the security to make a good choice directly at the begining ...

(Sorry for the weird writing, I'm french and not so confortable with english when it's my time to speak :B)

Have a good day !
