| Posted: 01 May 2017 04:13 AM PDT I am one of those civ players that loves a nice long marathon match that drags out and really tests the mechanics of the game, yet ultimately it always ends with the demise of the world via over-population, agressive expansion or greed. In civ 4 you had random events to ruin the fun, civ 5 had nothing other than future tech and some xcom units, and civ 6 has.. nothing really. Not only is there nothing new during this late part of the game, the lack of political options, ie UN, proper alliances, during the bulk of the game is saddening. But that is another story. What I feel would be fun is the incorporation of the beyond Earth system of choice in the form of three ideologies (or more):
This way they can use an already good system, and add a superficial yet intriguing end game expansion. What are the thoughts on this? Am I being dramatic? Is the marathon players a niche? Or is this a real issue holding the game back? [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 01 May 2017 05:22 AM PDT So, let's say you take an enemy city but you don't want to annex it, but you don't really want to get rid off it... if the owner of the cities people were unhappy, you should be able to grant the city independance in which it becomes a city state and allied with you, the more you do it with the same civilization, the more lands that one city states get to stop you from getting 6 brand new city states. Thoughts? [link] [comments] | ||
| Alexander can cheat in a pretty massive way when he takes a city Posted: 01 May 2017 06:16 AM PDT Whenever he takes a city with a world wonder, wall his units greet fully healed (this is intended). However, if you immediately begin building one the turn you take a wonderless city, that also triggers the ability. [link] [comments] | ||

| Multiplayer Is An Exercise In Masochism Posted: 01 May 2017 05:56 PM PDT After a few hundred hours, I've finally gotten to a place where I can win as a few civs on prince. Between this newfound confidence and seeing youtubers playing together for ages, I finally dipped a toe into multiplayer. While I knew it was supposed to be hard to find a game, I didn't realise the reason for this was that people have no idea how to set lobbies to private. Kick upon entry. x5 Good game that lasted all night but lacked DLC and experienced players. Kick upon entry. x7 Joined game in progress. Modern era, "my" score is 500 something, leaders' scores are 1500-2000. Kick upon entry. x25 Giving up on "public" lobbies, I look up the fabled thousand steam groups that everyone says is the sure way to a game. I learn that all the active groups are invite only, or have 20 people in them. Aside from the obligatory "Don't quit halfway through games, it's poor sport for everyone", all the large groups have inane rules such as "No one is allowed to make alliances with other humans. No one can trade resources unless they explicitly get something in that trade window. Now trading under threat of war or promises of future aid. Diplomacy with AI not allowed under any conditions, except to make peace. No dipolomatic victories." So with all public lobbies being out and proud private lobbies, every group making rules that make humans as stupid and handicapped as the AI, and my lack of seven gaming friends, I hereby make my retirement from Civ. May Gandhi populate all of those rotten fools' games with Shiva's wrath. [link] [comments] | ||
| Civilization 6's theme for Arabia is a Turkish song Posted: 01 May 2017 09:31 AM PDT So, I was listening to the Arabia theme while doing work because I really like the song, and coincidentally, my Syrian grandparents were over. My grandmother told me that her father really liked this Turkish song that I'm listening to, and later, my grandfather also identified it as Turkish. I asked them what the song was called and they said it was called "Üsküdar'a gider iken," and I found that the Arabian theme is indeed based on it. Arabia Theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TJAAJw-qU4 Turkish Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9No8kVSXqQ What do you guys think about this? It seems a bit off to me, but I think it could be amended if an Arabian song were made for the Arabian civilization, and this one is transferred to the (upcoming?) Ottoman civilization. | Is there a Canada mod for Civ VI? Posted: 01 May 2017 05:17 PM PDT Just wondering if anyone has come across a Canadian civ mod yet. I know there was one in V, but I am playing on Mac, so mods are only available for Civ VI [link] [comments] | ||

| Cultural Victory Civ VI question Posted: 01 May 2017 06:09 PM PDT I'm about half way through a great game and Rome only needs 2/3 of the tourism that I need to win the game. Is this a Rome thing or did they build a wonder or something? [link] [comments] | ||
| [Civ V]Mod Idea: Close Air Support tech line Posted: 01 May 2017 04:05 PM PDT I was playing the Smoky Skies scenario on Civ V recently, and realized how much I wished there were more helicopter-type units in the game, and some tweaked aircraft gameplay in the mid game. The new tree would look like this: Late Renaissance: •Airship -Is not affected by terrain costs -Ranged attack, Range 1, low melee strength, sight 4, movement 4 -Bonus against cities and infantry units -Does not embark over water, can attack ships -Can move after attacking Mid-Industrial: •Sky Fortress -Is not affected by terrain costs -Ranged attack, Range 1, medium melee strength, sight 4, movement 4 -Bonus against cities, infantry and Armored units -Does not embark over water, can attack ships -Can move after attacking -Can Carry up to 2 Fliers, or 1 Triplane •Flier -weak early fighter -range 3, sight 4 -very weak to ground units, strong against airship units -requires one coal resource Modern: •Zeppelin -Is not affected by terrain costs -Ranged attack, Range 1, medium melee strength, Sight 5, Movement 5 -Bonus against cities, infantry, and Armored units -Does not embark over water, can attack ships -Can move after attacking -Can Carry up to 4 Fliers, or 2 Triplanes -Requires one oil resource Atomic •Helicopter -Is not affected by terrain costs -Ranged attack, Range 2, low melee strength, Sight 4, Movement 6 -Bonus against infantry and Armored units (if upgraded from other units, does not lose city bonus) -Does not embark over water, can attack ships -Can move after attacking -Loses ability to carry airplanes Information •Helicopter Gunship -Is not affected by terrain costs -Ranged and Melee attack, Range 3, medium-high melee strength, Sight 5, movement 7 -Bonus against cities, infantry and Armored units -Does not embark over water, can attack ships -Can move after attacking -Requires one Aluminum resource I haven't put much thought into specific numbers for bonuses and strengths, but I think it would make a solid mod. | CIV V--Anyone play R.E.D. WWII mod/overhaul? Posted: 01 May 2017 01:35 PM PDT I just recently downloaded the R.E.D. WWII complete overhaul of civ 5 and it's a blast to play. I've read about people having problems with it in the past, but there's an updated version out now which has worked fine for me and has clear install instructions, link here. Basically, the mod overhauls the game to make it solely focused on combat. There is no happiness, culture, faith, etc. and the victory conditions of the scenario are to capture the key cities of the opposing side; if you're the Nazis/Japan, you have to capture D.C., Paris, Moscow, London, Nanking, and about 20 other critical allied cities. The map for the WWII scenario is massive, but there are also smaller scenarios such as the Battle of Stalingrad, or IIRC a Europe-only WWII map. While the mod page and posts on civfanatics can explain it better than myself, basically food=personnel and production=materiel, which then translate into supplies for infantry and armor/aircraft/ships, respectively. You use your cities to research and produce units, or focus on providing more personnel and materiel, like how you might use them to produce gold or science in the vanilla game. The AI is far better than the regular civ AI, i.e. it knows how to use planes and engage in naval warfare, and you have to act far more tactically in terms of what terrain you station yourself on and where/when you attack. Conquering your opponents doesn't function in the same way as normal civ games either, because territory becomes yours as you advance across it, and you can liberate territory that belongs to your allies (and since there is no happiness, there is never really a reason to not capture a city). I would highly suggest taking a look if you want to relive the history so to speak, as it includes scripted events that produce tons of units, such as the Fall of France or Japan's invasion of China, but it's also great if you love the military aspects of civ and don't want to have to worry about other features. Once I finish my current game, probably a week or two from now, I will do my best to post an imgur album to give a better idea of what it looks like. Also, if anyone does play it (there are limited relevant results when I search the sub), any tips or fun anecdotes? I've been playing as Britain, and I am so far loving the fact that it roughly follows the course of WWII, but mine and the AI's actions bring slight variations--unfortunately for me, Japan conquered all of China before the war in Europe even began and is now sitting on the doorstep of British India and French Indochina, for example. | Posted: 01 May 2017 07:03 PM PDT I recently started playing Civ VI and absolutely fell in love with playing as Rome. It's hard for me to play as anyone else now though so if anyone has any suggestions that would be great. Thanks, all [link] [comments] |
