DestinyReddit Discord Splash Image Contest Posted: 01 Apr 2017 12:20 PM PDT Hey Everybody! Did you know that this subreddit has a Discord Server? If you aren't already in there, I recommend that you join us. It's a great place for live chatting about the game, asking rolls on weapons and armour, tips and help on how to do things, and we even have LFG rooms for matchmaking for each of the platforms supported. Our discord server is also partnered, which means that we get better audio channels (most useful for those playing on PC), better quality server, our own vanity invite lnk, as well as being able to set a custom splash page example of what it could look like. Custom Splash Image contestNow that we are partnered, we're going to need a splash image that guardians will see when they go to join the server. An example of what it could look like. This splash image gives us a nice Destiny friendly touch, and makes it more special and unique. The contest will end no sooner than 2017/04/08 or when we choose to end it. Requirements
AssetsThe following assets are available for reference and use. They are not the only things you can use, but something to start or refer to.

Posted: 05 Apr 2017 08:08 AM PDT Alright. I've seen a few posts raging about the cost ($30) of the AoT t-shirt... Some real talk here... TL;DR at bottom. First, let's take a look at the shirt. It's a Very Important Tee from The District. Listed at $16. With order multiplier, Bungie is probably getting them for $9ish. With printing, it's probably about $11 a shirt. Now, each shirt has a custom emblem on the sleeve with your gamer tag on it. Custom means more money. So let's throw another two bucks on there, now we're at $13.00. Now, all this doesn't get done for free. Someone had to do the design, handle the multiple bids they sourced, spend the time to communicate with the printer on a timeline for such a large quantity, etc... We can assume 10% labor burden per shirt. To make the math easy, we will stick another dollar on there. We're at $14.00. Now, the t-shirt company isn't going to do all this packaging and shipping work for free. In my experience (granted, I usually work in 3-500 order quantities) this is around $2 a shirt to package, tag, and ship (this is NOT freight). Let's recap: Shirt - $9 Printing - $2 Custom Label - $2 Bungie Labor - $1 Tshirt Ship Labor - $2 Total Shirt Cost - $16 Bungie is selling these for $30 with the custom logo. That is less then a 50% margin. My numbers don't include Bungie's standard overhead cost (which I'm sure they have). On top of all that, the actual profit they make, probably $10 a shirt, is going straight to their charity foundation. Are we going to sit here and bitch about $10 for a Tshirt that has your gamer tag on it, proving you've put a crazy amount of hours into a video game!? I'm sure this will get downvoted into oblivion, but I'm tired of (what I assume are kids) throwing entitled bitch fits about a Tshirt that is entirely optional. TL;DR - Bungie is clearing $10 a shirt and giving it to people in need. The shirt is only worth what it means to you. If $30 is too much to "represent" the time you've put into the game, don't buy it. Edit: I'm not backing off of this. If you can't afford the shirt, then that is one thing. My reference to the "petulant children" are the folks who are calling for Bungie to make this shirt free or sell it "at cost" because they've played for so long, yada yada. Let me make my point clear - Bungie is selling this for a fair price. It's a locally sourced, high quality t-shirt with custom graphics. If you live out of the US, I'm sure the shipping situation sucks, but very few companies are going to ship something they're making $0 on for free. Edit 2: Typos Edit 3: Thanks to /u/sageleader for pointing out the color was in the pallet. I over looked it. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 05 Apr 2017 04:24 AM PDT You can literally see the old skin of the Fatebringer and Atheons Epilogue under the new one. I'm not sure if anyone else has seen this, but I found it quite funny. Edit: I've noticed people saying it's not the old Fatebringer image, but just a bad copy. Either way, it's still pretty bad haha. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Apr 2017 07:37 AM PDT I got the fatebringer adept yesterday and was pumped, but there is no good time to use it because every point in almost every raid an exotic heavy is all but necessary. [Spoiler] Best Atheon Challenge Mode Strategy Full Guide Posted: 05 Apr 2017 10:01 AM PDT Preamble My fireteam correctly predicted the Atheon Challenge Mode requirement 17.5 hours before the weekly reset. Because of this prediction, we were able to develop an optimized, efficient strategy that considered multiple variables to try and develop the "best" strategy. Simplicity, communication, coordination, timing, weapon loadouts, optimal damage, and other variables were all factored in when developing the strategy. We were able to do this because we had time to do so, we had hours to practice and perfect it. I spent a good part of my day on Monday writing up a full guide so that as soon as we completed the Atheon challenge, I could post the guide as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the post was removed in error and never really saw the light of day. I have received permission to repost the guide. Using this strategy and our practice, we were able to complete the Atheon Challenge Mode in one phase on our first attempt. Our first VoG completion time was 37:42 including both challenges, and that's including time spent transferring the checkpoint to another character. Unless Bungie says otherwise, we can only assume that we were the world first Atheon Challenge Mode completion. Videos by Perspective Strategy Before Atheon teleports Guardians, have 3 people activating the left sync plate and have 3 people activating the right sync plate. This maximizes your odds of quickly activating the correct sync plate outside while you are shooting out of your detainment bubble. Bungie reduced the number of oracles to six in each portal. This matches the fireteam size of 6 so everybody on the fireteam needs to kill one and only one oracle per Time's Vengeance. One oracle, no more, no less. We decided to use a numbering system, but understand that it is not a static numbering system, and you must understand the time when we assign numbers. Your team cannot pick numbers until after the teams have been teleported and after the relic has been picked up. This strategy allows anybody who is comfortable with the relic to pick it up immediately. If you like running relic, you can "prehold" the button to pick it up and if you are teleported inside it will pick it up instantly. Whoever picks up the relic is always automatically #3. On the outside team, one person should immediately try to call "I am 6". We went off the "dibs" system, whoever called out "6" first got it. The #6 callout is really the only callout that is required. I will explain why. There are two people teleported inside who do not pick up the relic. These will be #1 and #2. Both of these people can team-shoot the first oracle and then use the killfeed to determine which person should reload and solo kill oracle #2. These people are also responsible for calling out the time the oracle # spawns. Their callout should be something quick, clear, and simple like "1 is up. 2 is up. 3 is up." Relic kills oracle #3 with the relic super, which is charged by killing the adds. The same exact principle applies to #4 and #5. Both of these outside players should enter the portal at the same time, as soon as the inside team calls out "3 is up" and both players should shoot oracle #4. Using the killfeed, whoever does not kill oracle #4 needs to reload and solo kill oracle #5. At this point, the original inside team should be leaving the portal and going to the middle island, which allows #6 to enter the portal last to solo kill the final oracle. With this staggered approach, you can have 5 people out of the portal and on the middle island before the final oracle is killed to get Time's Vengeance. This maximizes your damage phase time, because 5 people are already in position, able to preemptively place a Weapons of Light bubble on the back of the island, and they should be ready to start shooting him as soon as they get the Time's Vengeance damage buff. I will use the above strategy in the real-world example of our first Atheon Challenge completion. Our fireteam consists of:
Atheon Opens the Timestream Inside:
Outside:
Let's say that Teh Zombie87 picks up the relic, and he goes down to kill adds like normal. TehZombie87, since he is the relic holder, will be responsible for killing oracle #3. The other two players inside the portal kill oracles #1 and #2. In this example, ThadJarvice called out "I got 1" to indicate he was going to kill oracle #1. That left Eonix to kill oracle #2. On the outside team, Textbook1987 called out "I got 6" meaning he was going to be the sole person outside the portal, and that means NY Sneakybeaver and Ouch MS should both enter the portal at the same time to kill oracles #4 and #5. The inside team calls out the timing for oracle spawns, so that when they call out "3 is up" , #4 and #5 enter the portal. At this point, team members #1 through #5 should all be standing in the same spot, which is inside the portal, near the door. The relic holder, after killing his adds, should stand near the door and use the relic super to one-shot oracle #3. Before or after killing oracle #3 is the perfect time to cleanse, with 5 members of the fireteam grouped up. #1 and #2 need to be aware of their positioning so that they stand near the relic holder to get the cleanse after the oracle #3 kill, but behind the relic holder, careful not to block his super shot. #1 and #2 will definitely need to be cleansed at this point before they leave the portal because their screens will be dark. With everybody cleansed, members #1, #2, and #3 can leave the portal and go to the middle island. #4 and #5 can leave the portal immediately after killing their oracle. Since they are inside the portal a shorter amount of time, they should not need a cleanse inside, they will get cleansed outside on the middle island. 6 enters the portal last, after the callout "5 is up" and the original inside team has left the portal. He kills the final oracle and immediately leaves to join his team on the middle island for the cleanse and damage. Using the real-world examples above, you can see Ouch MS and NY SneakyBeaver enter the portal after the callout "3 is up". Textbook1987 remains outside. By the time they call out "5 is up" you can see Eonix, Teh Zombie87, and ThadJarvice all leaving the portal just before Textbook1987 enters the portal. Ouch MS and NY SneakyBeaver leave the portal as soon as their oracles are killed and join the team on the middle island. By the time Textbook1987 kills the final oracle to get Time's Vengeance, 5 members of the fireteam should be standing on the middle island ready to shoot Atheon. In our example, we had 4 members in position while NY SneakyBeaver was shooting a couple Supplicants before moving to middle island. We placed a Weapons of Light bubble with the Illuminated perk on the back of the middle island, and used a black hole tether. We all used Sleeper Simulants to kill Atheon in one phase. When it comes to damaging Atheon, use a Weapons of Light bubble and a Tether, use Sleeper if you have it, and high impact sniper rifles. Do not use offensive supers like golden gun or hammers, they do not benefit from the damage buff from Time's Vengeance. You do not need to kill Atheon in one round, but using this strategy increases your possibility of doing so. If you do not kill Atheon, repeat this strategy every round. If you get Time's Vengeance with a member of the fireteam killing more than one oracle, you will fail the challenge. Tips: Study this video to learn and memorize the location of each oracle spawn inside both portals. The relic holder's oracle (oracle #3) is always floating top left, for both portals. Oracle #4 is either floating directly above the final steps (Mars) or floating to the right (Venus), however with Challenge Mode, since #4 enters Venus from the portal facing the other direction, oracle #4 is on THEIR left. Oracle #5 is always on the right (YOUR left after you enter the portal). Oracle #6 is always on the left (YOUR right after you enter the portal). If You Are Having Trouble Killing Oracles Oracles are not like normal enemies in Destiny. They are not majors or ultras, they are something entirely different and unique - they are oracles. Oracles have unique properties. Did you know that oracles gain health over time, immediately after spawn? This is why it is so important to shoot an oracle as soon as it spawns, because you stop its health gain, meaning it will have lower overall health and die faster. This health gain is so severe that in some cases, it is actually better to be shooting at an oracle's spawn location, wasting bullets into thin air, than to shoot the oracle the moment it spawns. Don't believe me? Shooting An Oracle As It Spawns (same gun) Shooting at an Oracle Before It Spawns If you have Vault of Glass weapons, use them. They have an intrinsic perk called Oracle Disruptor that will deal bonus damage to oracles. For primary weapons, there are different damage penalties against oracles. Handcannons have a 33% damage penalty against oracles and scouts have a 20% damage penalty against oracles. I do not know about pulse rifles, but auto rifles have no damage penalty against oracles. That is why you saw us using Doctrine of Passing (with Extended Mag) to kill oracles. That allowed us to use our special and heavy for Atheon. It is helpful to your team to call out the oracles as they spawn. "1 is up." "2 is up." "3 is up." etc. This gives the outside team a rough idea of the best time to enter the portal. Entering the portal too early can lead to your screen going dark sooner than necessary. Conclusion I know there are other strategies being used, but I really feel like we explored all options and figured out the best strategy to ensure success. I am open to alternative strategies though, so if you feel like there is improvement, then by all means, please let me know. Good luck Guardians! [link] [comments] |
Don't Use Offensive Supers to Damage Atheon, Shoot Him Posted: 05 Apr 2017 02:48 AM PDT Offensive supers do not benefit from the Time's Vengeance damage buff. Sorry, but no, that Celestial Nighthawk isn't going to melt him. Comparatively speaking, it is actually a pretty poor choice for DPS. A member of my fireteam used a Celestial Nighthawk Golden Gun and it did 138,303 damage. A single shot from a Sleeper Simulant with Weapons of Light and Tether did 306,377. Don't golden gun, don't nova bomb, don't throw hammers of fire, don't throw grenades, don't rocket unless everybody on the team is using rockets. If everybody uses snipers and/or Sleeper, Atheon will not move around as much so you should be able to land more precision shots, and you will be doing a good amount of damage. The one exception to the rule is there is a good time to throw grenades at Atheon and that is when you do not have Time's Vengeance. Grenades at Atheon benefit from the Tme's Vengeance damage buff even when you do not have Time's Vengeance. But seriously though, stop using your golden gun on Atheon. [link] [comments] |
Solo 390 Templar + Challenge Mode (No Teleports) Posted: 05 Apr 2017 03:42 AM PDT Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Nn7NP5guvM Just a ..well long video of me Solo'ing the new 390 Templar as well as doing the No Teleports for "Challenge Mode". The strategy is pretty straight forward, it just involves you running behind cover between the two teleports, and using your relic block to stop the damage in the process of stopping the teleport. Every time you have your super up you hit the Templar in passing. Do this for ~26 minutes and you'll have a kill! This is a strat I had ready to go last week when the old Vault of Glass was updated. Wanted to see if I could Solo the Challenge Mode this week and it was actually rather simple. It feels a little cheap doing it this way however, so I wanted to try solo'ing it a different way first (which actually turns out to be insanely hard). But figured should just clear it up on the challenge Mode, and then go for the other harder clear later on :) This took me about an hour to do once I started using this strategy again this week (I think I spent about 2 hours last week practicing this). One of my first attempts I got it to about 5% this time around and failed a jump.. which was a little frustrating. But got it done about 40 minutes after. Unfortunately Atheon is no longer possible solo, but Confluxes/Oracles still seem to be doable solo. Will give those a go next :) Any questions feel free to ask! [link] [comments] |

Destiny, a video game written about by Jason Schreier (Now formatted, hopefully) Posted: 05 Apr 2017 11:43 AM PDT Jason Schreier is held in high regard on this sub as the most reliable source for Destiny news, but I'm also a great fan of his writing in general. As I'm sure most know, Jason has challenged himself to write the best possible ledes for all his Destiny articles, and I thought it would be nice to collect them, given that future news is likely to be more focused on D2 than D1. Fortunately, it appears that - unlike all of our loot and shaders and emblems and everything but haircuts we can't change - Jason's tradition won't be left behind at the Tower, as he's already writing about, "Destiny 2, a video game in which players travel through space, reminiscing about Destiny 1." I think I've got all his D1 ledes below, but feel free to add others. And tag him, too - I don't know how to do that. *Destiny, a three-year pre-order bonus for Destiny 2, *Destiny, a video game in which you can see mountains and then go there, *Destiny, a video game in which your Guardian will remain with you for the next ten years, *Destiny, a video game in which players travel through the galaxy waiting for Destiny 2, *Destiny, a video game in which players travel through space wondering why the hell they can't get new artifacts, *Destiny, a video game about the eternal war between the players and developers of Destiny, *Destiny, a video game filled with horrible jumping puzzles, *Destiny, a video game in which players travel the galaxy watching internet commenters write things like "nobody plays Destiny." *Destiny, a video game in which players travel through space, killing aliens and gradually realizing that nothing really matters because we all die alone. *Destiny, a video game in which players travel through space trying to think up good snarky one-line openings for Kotaku stories, *Destiny, a video game that used to be tedious albeit addictive but has gradually evolved into one of the best games out there, *Destiny, a video game in which players convince themselves that it's worth spending hours grinding for goddamn calcified fragments just so they can get a stupid emblem. *Destiny, a video game in which players travel through space trying to convince internet commenters that yes, people still play Destiny. *Destiny, a video game about quietly pondering the meaning of life. *Destiny, a video game in which players create virtual dolls and dress them up in a variety of colored costumes. *Destiny, a video game in which players travel through space watching their weapons get nerfed. *Destiny, a video game in which players travel through the solar system waiting for announcements of announcements of announcements of new content. *Destiny, the video game version of the myth of Icarus. *Destiny, a video game in which players travel through space imagining new content. *Destiny, a video game where players travel through space trying to overcome their Destiny malaise. *Destiny, a video game about the power of true friendship. *Destiny, a video game in which players travel the solar system hunting for new content. *Destiny, a video game that still exists! *Destiny, a video game in which players travel through the galaxy and battle against random loot tables, *Destiny, a video game about the endless hunt for a decent ghost shell, *Destiny, a video game in which players travel through space doing the Carlton on as many planets as possible, *Destiny, a video game in which players spend hours and hours dropping out of strike playlists, *Destiny, a video game in which players travel through space wondering how the hell Bungie got away with that damn crucible bounty quest, *Destiny, the video game that won Peter Dinklage an Emmy, *Destiny, a video game in which you travel through space lamenting that Destiny has gotten way harder to make fun of in the first lines of Kotaku posts because it's so friggin' good now. *Destiny, a video game that wouldn't be nearly as good as it is now if we hadn't spent the past year traveling through space and complaining about Destiny. *Destiny: The Taken King, a video game about how cool Nathan Fillion is. *Destiny, a video game that exits beta and launches today. *Destiny, a video game about delayed gratification. *Destiny, a video game about crushing the hopes and dreams of Peter Dinklage, *Destiny, a video game where you travel through space waiting for the other shoe to drop? Preadyth's Timepiece is an Oracle killer Posted: 05 Apr 2017 09:43 AM PDT I'll preface this by saying it works better with the legendary version so you don't take an exotic slot (however both work) Basically, everyone knows secret round is a piece of crap. It shoots a 4th bullet when you miss your burst. Effectively making the recoil worse and not helping at all. Except with Oracles. With the Praedyth's Timepiece, the thought is that it's similar to Super Good Advice. They are Oracle killers. With SGA, the gun is always "missing" Oracle shots and refiling the magazine with ammo. With the Timepiece, it's "missing" and firing off a 4th shot whenever you "miss". So effectively, you have a 4 shot burst (imagine the Hakke pulse but with regular damage) with bonus Oracle damage. TLDR; Use the Timepiece for oracle damage, it does really good. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 05 Apr 2017 12:59 PM PDT Titan master race. I've been following the many complicated strategies proposed by folks for clearing the Templar Challenge. These "advanced" strategies include some combination of expert relic runner action, second-by-second countdowns, hunter invisibility, strategic tethers, designated add control, dark drinker, sleeper simulant riccochets, standing not crouching, and running around to far-away pillars to avoid splash damage. I am a Titan main, and I do not understand that stuff. So, I propose a faster, easier, more bullet-proof, PUG-friendly strategy for completing the Templar Challenge. This is not really a new strategy; I'm surprised everyone didn't just try this from the get-go. Requirements: (i) Two titan defenders with weapons of light, bastion and illuminated. Glasshouse helmet helps too. (ii) Someone (anyone) to hold relic and super once from... anywhere. (iii) Good-job-horns. Starting positions and oracles: (i) Left teleport circle. Left titan on left platform. He never needs to leave platform. He can crouch on right side of platform to avoid boss dps. He probably won't see any oracles, but can kill any he sees from platform. (ii) Relic Runner. Grabs relic and works the back/left to kill first round oracles on his side. Supers boss shield when ready. (iii) Right teleport circle. Right titan and three anythings. Cover right oracles until relic runner takes down boss shield. Teleport denial and DPS: (i) When shield goes down, Right and Left titans pop weapons bubbles on right and left transport circles. Everyone but relic runner go get in a bubble. (ii) Pull out good-job-horn, and start jump-rocketing boss. Jump above bubble, rocket, land in bubble. This means five people on full DPS duty with weapons of light buff and bubble protection. (iii) Templar dies before adds become a problem. Templar dies before bubbles run out. (iv) Relic runner enjoy the show or go make a sandwich or something. (v) Switch to your new challenge emblem. This strat requires two titans and a weapon everyone should have by now thanks to quest line. PUG friendly, easy to explain, even easier to practice and perfect in just a few runs (if the first one doesn't work, which it should, unless someone rockets himself to death inside a bubble). I guess dps buffs like tether or viking funeral would help... you guys all go test that. I never start posts on reddit, but thought this would help. Source: did it last night, first run, with pug group. Titan master race. Posted: 05 Apr 2017 09:24 AM PDT Impractical for holding flowers but I still love it Re-submitting because my first post didn't include the picture. Here's a better picture because the original made the flowers look like a tree, apparently. [link] [comments] |

So I made this to share with the group. mmmm Crucible whiskey Found a high-res JD label online, edited in Photoshop, and printed at Kinkos. It was fun to make, let me know what you all think! Armsday Rolls, week 83 [2017-04-05] Posted: 05 Apr 2017 04:56 AM PDT Welcome to Armsday, week 83. This post is a compilation of all the weapon rolls. I want to hear what you think are the best choices, post in the comments. Here's a list of the available rolls this week. If you ordered ones I didn't please post the rolls in the comments and I'll add them. Useful Links:
New to Armsday? For those new to Armsday, here's the basics: Each week you can order a number of weapons from the gunsmith, equal to your gunsmith rank, up to a max of 3. You can rank up by doing the weekly weapon tests. On the Wednesday following your order, you get to choose from a number of rolls (combinations of perks) on each of the weapons you ordered. Again, this number is equal to your gunsmith rank, up to a max of 3 possible choices. If you choose not to turn in your weapon order for a roll, you can hold onto the order and you will get access to 3 new rolls every week (until you claim the weapon). The orders never expire but do take up inventory space, and do count towards your max number of orders. At any given time the max number of orders you can have in your inventory is 3 per character. Below are the rolls available to those who ordered these weapons last week. Thanks for your continued support for what we do here every week, -wileykyoto For Sale This Week: These are the weapons that are available this week for order.
