True Dota 2 - Is Veil Huskar a thing?

Is Veil Huskar a thing?

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 09:59 AM PST

I was messing around with bots last night just to waste time, and wanted to see if there were any cheesy things I could do with Huskar. So, I tried out a Huskar with Veil of Discord and a Hood of Defiance.

Granted, it's against bots, but it worked a lot better than I thought it would. Putting the Veil debuff on someone and then hitting Life Break did a real amount of damage, and the armor and hp regen came in handy, too.

I would venture a guess that Armlet is still the better item, but do you guys see any way that Veil Huskar could end up a thing, sort of how Veil Ember is?

What is the best lane for Core Vengeful Spirit?

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 12:31 PM PST

It would seem that safe lane is most common but Venge does poorly in the longer lanes 1v1.
As mid lane you support the safelane rightclicker with your abilities more, but you are as easily roamed on as you are at supporting roamers.
Dual offlane seems ideal but suffers to trilanes and doesn't have the xp advantage.
My personal experience says mid venge is most comfortable, despite a few hard counters(e.g. Tinker) What do you think is the ideal lane for core Vengeful Spirit?
Thanks!

Tips against Tinker as Meepo?

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 03:01 PM PST

Recently I've been spamming meepo, and I found it to be very hard to play against a decent Tinker player.

Problems are:

  1. Hard to push against him

  2. Once he gets aghs, it becomes increasingly difficult to play vs his team.

  3. Hard to catch him once he gets Travels + blink

I'm at 5k~.

Satanic discussion on Weaver (and in general)

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 10:55 AM PST

Hi all, so I've been spamming Weaver with pretty high success this patch (~70% winrate at 4.5k USE), and while Deso is as good as ever (maybe even better than before on Weaver because it works with Skadi), I've found success with Satanic as a situational pickup on the hero.

Satanic's one of those items that you rarely see picked up on carries; usually it's on a Luna or Troll or whatever that needs to manfight and can succeed with Satanic due to their naturally high DPS. With the item's recent changes in 7.00, it gives fairly different stats:

(http://dota2.gamepedia.com/Satanic/Changelogs) Old Satanic:

Recipe: Reaver (3000), Helm of the Dominator (1800), recipe (1100) Total cost: 5900 Strength bonus: 25 Attack damage bonus: 20 Armor bonus: 5

New Satanic:

Recipe: Reaver (3000), Morbid Mask (1200), Mithril Hammer (1600) Total cost: 5800 Strength bonus: 25 Attack damage bonus: 50

Before, the only real reason you'd pick it up was for the massive lifesteal. It's good, but situational, and didn't really provide much outside of it. 20 damage is almost negligible, and the 5 armor is convenient, but just there because of the Helm buildup. Now, the damage number has jumped from 20 to 50, and 50's quite a fair amount of damage, so more carries can justify picking it up, in my opinion, because you aren't wasting a slot and 6000 gold on just massive lifesteal. On strength heroes, it's a whopping 75 damage (more than Heart's 45), which is pretty good.

Now, while I haven't really looked many heroes' individual synergy with the item, I've spent a good amount of time thinking about why it would work with Weaver.

  • The hero builds to have high DPS. Geminate Attack procs about twice if done right during the Unholy Rage duration. These two things show that Weaver will get a lot of value out of the active lifesteal. I've turned around fights with Satanic on Weaver, consistently, just because it acts as a reset tool. Already used Time Lapse? Not a problem, as long as you aren't chainstunned during Satanic. Weaver's usually afraid of being even noticed in fights, because carries will hit him if they have even farm and scare the hero away; the hero isn't really built to truly 1v1...but sometimes it can be beneficial to do so. Satanic enables that, simply put.

  • Lategame, I've found that a Linkens alone is rarely enough to sustain Weaver when jungling or running around the map between skirmishes. The passive lifesteal is a convenient part of the item; if you're just looking for the ability to top off your health in between fights, though, an Urn or Vlads pickup on an ally will suffice.

  • 50 damage bonus from Satanic is a lot; it's not enough on its own to justify the item pickup on its own, but it's certainly a lot better than the previous +20. Weaver builds are centered around +damage or +agi items, so Satanic can fit in here somewhat comfortably.

  • 25 strength; the hero occasionally picks up +health items to not get bursted in fights, traditionally being Heart of Tarrasque. Heart's +45 strength is certainly more, but I'd argue that much health on Weaver is (almost always) completely unnecessary. The passive health regen allows you to play like a pseudo-Slark, which can be good (especially in chipping away at highground), but Weaver often doesn't have time to wait 7 seconds and then several more to get topped off in health. 7.00 has opened up alternatives: Eye of Skadi as an option alongside Desolator, and Satanic is similar: it tanks the hero up.

Now, there is a glaring flaw in Satanic that most of you might've kept in the back of your minds, or maybe it's been bugging (heh) ever since you read the title of this post: the prevalence of Desolator in Weaver's item build and how it doesn't work with Satanic due to both being UAMs. This is the single biggest issue keeping me from picking up Satanic in every single Weaver game that goes past ~40 minutes. Desolator is undoubtably an amazing item on Weaver, but it's not the only damage item the hero can pick up.

Recently, new builds have been developed, such as the Maelstrom first approach, or the somewhat dead Diffusal rush (rip self purge, you will be missed). These builds are the most obvious in allowing Satanic to fit into Weaver's item build, but not the only. Later on in the game, Desolator becomes a terrible item in terms of gold-per-slot efficiency, so selling it or stashing it away in backpack is sometimes required to keep up with the enemy carry. This opens up the possibility of another UAM pickup, which is where Satanic comes in.

I've been messing around with Satanic rush Weaver not too seriously, but it has worked. It can fit into the new-ish Linkensless strategy by providing regen to substitute for the lack of a ring of health. Specifically against carries that can manfight/do insane burst early on in the game (ie. Luna via Eclipse), Satanic tanks Weaver up, lets him manfight, and doesn't gimp his damage output too hard compared to a Desolator. It definitely changes the way Weaver engages fights; instead of running around with Shukuchi trying to avoid being hit, he can use his fantastic DPS potential to stand his ground and fight. It's hard to justify a 6000 gold item <30 minutes into the game, but Linkens is 4800 and gets picked up frequently, so it's not impossible to fit Satanic in early.

Before you go and call Satanic Weaver stupid or whatnot, I encourage you to try it out in an unranked game or something. It's not core like a Deso or Dragon Lance, but is a very good situational pickup in a lot of games.

tl;dr Satanic is a better item this patch, and hasn't really been explored enough, imo. The item's a great situational pickup on Weaver.

How do you play Abaddon without dying a lot (As offlane support)?

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 12:17 PM PST

I'm a pretty new player and am trying to learn Abbadon. From what I've heard, Abbadon is supposed to be literally immortal, but I'm dying a lot on him. I'm guessing that this is partially due to me running into the thick of things, but even when my ult activates I still end up dying. I'm pretty sure that I'm not playing him right. How do you guys play Abaddon as an offlane support? Do you actually rush into melee range? Or do you stay towards the back and spam mist coil and aphotic shield?

Why aren't Huskar and Viper played as supports?

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 10:09 AM PST

From what I see, they are both the best harassers in the game and can easely zone heroes since level 1, also they scale pretty bad to be played as cores, they are both tanky enough to being able to right click heroes in teamfights constantly.

Huskar got healing to be the perfect babysitter and Viper got slows to be the perfect roamer.

Zeus as a lane support

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 03:22 AM PST

I wanted to ask comments about picking Zeus as a lane support because I haven't played him. Is he really viable?

I'm thinking he could work because: - Free true sight for dewarding / invis heroes - Can see where enemies are with ulti - Lightning bolt has a mini stun for cancelling channeling spells - Does a ton of damage (with levels)

Or not because: - Can he really zone any offlaners? I'm guessing arc lightning will just push the lane so it's unusable and Zeus' right clicks do nothing. And he is paper - I guess I just answered my own question there :)

But for the sake of argument, any ideas how to make support Zeus work? Maybe in an aggro offlane where you can freely push the lane?

Playing wisp in solo-3 stacks.

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 02:50 PM PST

So this thread I intend to share the tips I have for playing wisp as well as ask for others.

Number one. If you're playing solo it can sometimes be a struggle to get anyone to go ward with you. Since wisp has no real disable to prevent an enemy from going on him, I handle this with hotd. I usually look for either the Regen, move speed, attack boost, or ice armor creep, but the actual choice doesn't matter for this tip. I bring my creep along and keep it at max tether distance from where I'm warding / dewarding that way if an enemy jumps me I can just tether to said creep to get pulled out, then either to or just run away.

Two- I usually avoid picking him since he's not an ideal solo support but one exception for this to me is playing with a sniper. Snipers stupid high range plus the shrapnel slows means even without items I can have impact in a fight just tethering and overcharging him on the back lines. Even if someone runs at him the extra attack speed on top of head shot , plus my spirits and tether slow probably mean they're going to die.

Three - pretty obvious but don't forget you can lock your spirit distance in between the min and max range.

Generally when I play wisp I get bottle asap, then either urn or Mek depending on how the lane is going. After that i grab my hotd then finish greaves and go into pipe.

Those are my tips although I'm not super experienced with wisp I do enjoy playing it / have relative success with the hero. Anything you guys would like to add ?

When to draft shadow fiend?

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 02:33 PM PST

Ive recently started playing battlecup with a team, and being the drafter and position five, ive quickly realized that drafting what your players are comfortable with is one of the most important things in a draft. My issue comes in that our mid players best hero is shadow fiend, and i never feel particularly good about picking it, as shadow can be ganked very easily and suffers a lot from a bad start. So I want to know the scenarios in which i should pick shadow fiend, and how I should play around him when the enemy ganks him heavily.

7.02 Roaming Questions and Thoughts

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 12:05 PM PST

What I qualify as roaming is more of a support rotation not looking to get a kill but to help in lane. Ganking is going to another lane looking for a kill. Then there are always counter-gankers which basically guard cores against rotations and potentially turn ganks around. I believe that doing either in games as a support can increase chances of winning tremendously. I've noticed that players that get help in lanes are normally more optimistic going forward about the game as well as them having more items and levels.

So I've been doing some experimenting ingame about what support/roamers are best to win games. I'm going to be hopefully making the final push to 5k from 4.5k. I got to 4.5k mainly supporting which wasn't too bad but I'm guessing the road to 5k will be much harder.

Anyways, the best roaming support is definitely ogre. His presence wins lanes. It's actually crazy. And if that's not enough, he makes your cores do so much more damage with bloodlust. He is perfect for pubs. But I was hoping not to have to play ogre every game. What are all of your feelings about good roaming supports in the patch? I really would love to hear suggestions of other roamers that people enjoy as I am looking into playing more of these.

Another good hero that I think can win games would be shadow demon. He is decent at ganking but he needs a few levels, he is decent at roaming but is a bit squishy, and he is amazing at counter-ganking. He also scales tremendously well as he can outright counter the enemy carry or just make yours many times scarier. I despise this hero but am not against playing it. But he has just been in the meta for so long and has a very boring playstyle to watch in my opinion with slow.. slow highground pushes and his ability to kill solo farmed cores with nothing. Shadow Demon is very interesting as a hero to me and I think I'll have to like him if I want to keep raising mmr. Any ideas on other top tier counter-gankers?(Dazzle, etc.)

Tl; Dr:

Which roamers (read above definition) of 7.02 do you think are strongest?

Which counter-gankers (read above definition) of 7.02 do you think are strongest?

Thanks

What is the place for Sven and N'aix this patch?

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 05:39 AM PST

I remember N'aix being viable in 6.86 with the Radiance strat and 6.87 before the nerfs on his BAT and Armlet, and Sven viable in 6.88 with HoTD & SnY, and 6.87 - 6.88 with HoTD Echo Sabre, those were my most played heroes in those patches, now with the changes of 7.00, I have no idea on how good are those heroes.

Helm of the Dominator on Vengeful Spirit?

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 10:49 AM PST

One of the issues I have with dominating most creeps is that they do almost no damage, and unless you're Chen or Enchantress, jungling w/ them is hard.

So I was thinking, if VS's Vengeance Aura is applied to dominated creeps, would it be a good item for a Core VS? It could stack really well with an Alpha Wolf, or one of the big Purple Satyrs, since they have the big purple ball AND around 50 DMG (I think).

Climbing As Abbadon?

Posted: 19 Feb 2017 05:15 PM PST

I feel Abbadon is super strong right now and I definitely want to learn him. I've been on a climb for the past few days with random heroes that work well in fights, and I feel I could be a really good Abbadon player. Only problem is, I have absolutely no idea how to play him.

Could anyone give me some advice on how climb as Abbadon? I've been thinking that the aura strat is incredibly strong in 7.xx because almost every game I've won has been because of a team fight. So what's the skill build, the lane, the item build, and the combo's I need to know/practice to maximize my chances of winning? Any help is appreciated, I just want to post a 20 win streak on /r/Dota2 saying "Abbadon is broken" or whatever and get front page plz help.

Help catching up with patches/the meta

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 09:39 AM PST

Hey guys, I need some help catching up with the meta. I stopped playing around 6.86 right when Dragon Lance, etc. came out. Can someone break down the 7.02 meta for me please? I've got some specific questions I'm looking for guidance on; please answer as many or as few of those as you'd like, as well as offer any other commentary you think might be useful.

  • New heroes: Pit Lord, Monkey King. I haven't seen either of these in pubs yet. Are they popular? What are common team combos people employ with them? Any obvious counters? If you can think of anyone who is played completely differently, please make a note of them as well.
  • Changed items. Helm of Dom doesn't life steal anymore? You can buy half a boot now (Wind Lace)? What are common starting items? Am I out of the loop if I'm doing x2 Tangoes, Clarity, Wards, courier as support? I saw a comment saying "Moondrops" make clarities irrelevant on a post somewhere.
  • Laning. Is 2-1-2 still pretty common? That was the mainstay for awhile, then trilanes were starting to come back. One of my friends was insisting that laning is done like LoL now, with 1-1-2 and a jungler/roamer. How different has the new map made jungling?
  • Timings. What is combat like now? Some light reading indicates early carries are the big deal right now, as teamfighting can start around 10 minutes and you want to start picking off objectives. Is this correct? In my games Rosh was largely ignored, were those outliers or is that a thing?
  • Heroes. If you wouldn't mind choosing a position and listing off a few of the top heroes for that position right now, as well as potential good counter-picks or combo picks for them as well. Any heroes that are effectively deleted? Any heroes that are picked every game?

I know there's other stuff changed now too, like the map, rune/creep timings, etc. but that should all come pretty quick with experience and a couple bot games.

Best support duo to roam, smoke and gank at early levels? (For low skilled players)

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 08:09 AM PST

I have 3500 MMR and my friend is around 2k mmr.
I want to train my friend to use smoke, tp and wards to help the entire map rather than sitting next to the carry on lane. What are the best supports (with a good risk/reward ratio) to roam a lot in early game? Ty

PS : best would be a duo that doesnt require a lot of skill. Don't forget our mmrs :)

Is elder titan dead until next buff?

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 01:50 AM PST

Hi,

I played a bit of elder titan and i wonder why he is not played anymore. The meta is about constant teamfighting and his sleep is so good to do that !

I played him a bit as offlaner. He is fine as solo offlaner since one of the supports will often roam, leaving the lane 1v2.

And he can destroy a lane if he is with another offlaner. (I shat on a safelane with ET + mirana).

If the game goes wrong you can go for tranquils soul ring and make the game longer, and elder is fine with items as well.

Why don't we see him more, how would you play him on 7.02?
