The paint is a little sloppy and does match up perfectly but I'm pretty happy with how my Gold Standard Skin came out.

343 can we please have the old breakout back?

I personally was a big fan of breakout and still don't understand how such a unique mode was changed or removed. It's time to bring the real breakout back

Played Halo 3: ODST for the first time.. THOUGHTS

Posted: 16 Feb 2017 12:40 PM PST

Longtime seasoned Halo veteran here. Never got around to playing ODST. Was preoccupied in that time period. Didn't realize but my brother had bought it when it came out... Decided to finally play it.. Here are my thoughts since finishing it on Legendary;

Soundtrack: Unbelievable. Completely unique in the series. Stands as tall as any in the series. Marty is a wizard. Highlight is obviously the tracks when wandering through the deserted city as the Rookie. Ambience, lonely. It just works. Personal favorite track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWh9l8RSkPk

Story: A great change up from the usual galaxy spanning epic stakes stories the series is known for. Much more personal, character driven story. A couple of the characters were forgettable, but with Buck the blonde chick, the squid alien and of course Rookie... there's more than enough juice. I really bought in to the duality of how the story was told... The murder detective in the night looking for his squad. It absolutely works because of the congruence with Rookie as a character. His character and story arc speaks the most despite him never saying a word. Perfect alignment of character, story and the individual gameplay. I was also drawn into the Buck blonde quasi-love interest angle + searching for her/wondering if she died. The engineer squid arc is a perfect icing on the cake. Solid, contained story that doesn't try to go overboard. More is less here.

Gameplay: Vintage Halo. The most "Combat Evolved" title followed by Halo 3. Healthpack system is a sweet throwback, and the limitations and vulnerability are too. The golden triangle of guns, grenades and melee is held in tack, along with the traditional union of movement and combat... (No sprint/mobility motions where you cannot shoot). The grenade tossing and gun recoil is a nice little touch that helps immerse that you aren't a supersoldier, and it emphasizes the value of skilled player movement/strafing/jumping/closing the distance/timing... No gimmicks, just pure strategy. Weapons were very well balanced.. The game encouraged me to use just about every weapon in the sandbox... This is probably my favorite attempt of incorporating a powerful pistol ala Halo CE, but isn't super OP. Brute plasma rifle i really enjoyed.

Level Design: Very solid. Really liked how they did it. It was different/unique. Lonely and dark huge city for a silent protagonist to do his detective work... This mixed with classic style Halo missions ranging from close quarters to large vehicular sandbox combat.. Standard. Even threw in a scarab in there which was nice. Aside from the huge city, it's clear now that ODST was the inspiration for much of Reach, SPECIFICALLY firefight elements, and how it was integrated into the campaign... In the ONI building, on the heli-pad, the ending... Awesome innovation to the sandbox. The ending level design was solid, a blend of that firefight element and a cool protection type warthog run on the freeway.. Just unique. Brutes, as in Halo 3 were solid. They'll never be as good as elites (when done right), but this is as good as it gets... I hold a special place in my heart for the Halo 2 brutes and how terrifying they were. It's clear with the elites becoming allies, they needed to tame the brutes a bit and mold them into the new elites... They did a solid job.

What I didn't like/What annoyed me: 2 things that disrupted the immersion for me. The night vision mode, and the active map that can show live moving enemies from a distance... The night vision mode I felt should have had some drawback... Like maybe it works like the Halo 1 flashlight, but shorter battery.. I feel this because without the night vision on, the scenery and atmosphere, particularly in the empty dark city was BEAUTIFUL... But i couldn't always appreciate it because I needed to kill and be careful on Legendary. Just imagine how much more emmersive and atmospheric the experience would have been if you couldn't see enemies on your map AND the night vision had a 10 second battery with a 5 second recharge or something similar in the same principle. It was already spooky in the dark city, but it would have been ten times better without the need and comfort of a night light with no downsides.

Anyways, that's my small major gripe with an otherwise awesome contained Halo title. It's awesome to have a first time Halo experience again, let alone with the classic gameplay/combat system/style/flow.

I apologize now because I honestly have no idea how difficult it is for people to find these things or to do it, I have no idea what I'm talking about. I just want to see some full body Spartans and some Elites in that new beautiful art style.
