Posted: 30 Jan 2017 05:44 PM PST Rushing Rapier is obviously extremely risky, and I don't intend on ruining ranked games with this strat. But I'm wondering what your opinions are on exactly how and when to pull-off a Rapier strat on Dusa. Obviously you are going to want some early stat items. As far as boots go I'm conflicted between Treads and Phase, attack speed is the more valuable if you plan on getting a Rapier but the move speed might be more important than getting the more effective damage (phase active is great for escapes and farm speed). Beyond that I think you should pretty much always get Aquilla, then a MoM (100 attack speed, 15 damage, 15% LS, 17% MS and a downside that's mitigated heavily by mana shield). Afterwards you can get Dragon Lance if you feel you need the siege-ability earlier, plus the cost efficient stats. With Phase and MoM I can farm up a storm for a little while, then come out with the most cost effective damage item in the game. I'm not sure what the timing should be for the Rapier, but this is what I would consider the main weakness of the build, the fact that it takes a long time to come online. After the Rapier I've been considering a more unconventional item, Blink. I think the only reason Blink is over looked on Dusa is because she needs every slot to give damage and/or tank. However I feel like the Rapier build is more power-spike focused, in comparison to the traditional Dusa's power growth. Once you hit the spike of Rapier you are still rather vulnerable and your next item needs to come quickly and have a high impact. Skadi after Rapier is going to take a long time considering after Rapier you are typically going to need to 5 man to protect the Rapier, this limits your farm a lot. Blink is a ridiculously cost effective item, it gives dusa farm speed (when you actually get an opportunity to Blink + MoM + Rapier can usually kill three camps in the time it takes MoM to wear off), good stone gazes, and a solid escape (on top of the MS items purchased earlier makes dusa rather slippery). And the main downside of Blink is that a Dusa aiming to get 6 slotted is going to want to replace it, but you aren't aiming to get 6 slotted with a rapier strat you want the game to end quick before you die and give a 12k gold swing. Is it viable at all? Could it perhaps be a good strat against enemies that you know you are better than? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jan 2017 09:52 AM PST Hey! I'm a 3.8k player returning to dota after hiatus. I play a lot of juggernaut. I really enjoy the hero, and I find him an interesting challenge because he drops off late pretty hard. I can't share my latest match on dotabuff because I forgot to change the settings in the Dota 2 client, but I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about late game jugg and late game jugg vs spec in particular. I know the deck is stacked against Jugg in this scenario. But this has played out like 4 or 5 times over the past couple of weeks, and I'm getting salty that I can't clinch a win. The impetus is on the Jugg team to end the game early before late game spec just literally stands around and kills everyone. I'm aware of this and communicate this to my team (if they're not already aware). I typically crush the mid game with Jugg. I play a lot of him, I'm comfortable with him, and I've been playing dota for 10 years on and off. Plus 3.5k-4k players make a lot of mistakes. But in a few of these matches I just can't seem to close it out. Like we'll take two lanes, etc. Spec will then get rad/diffu/manta/heart and it's over. I can't manfight her, and I'm trying to figure out if it's even possible. Which sort of leads into my next question. I think Jugg has a lot of flexibility when it comes to itemization. In the latest game vs. spec I went Phase-->Drums-->SnY-->Mjollnir-->Abyssal-->Moon Shard buff-->Satanic. The opposing team didn't really contest rosh at all this match, and we did him three times, so the last slot was saved for aegis. The satanic in particular was kind of a last ditch thing that didn't work out, but it's also a late game item I've been wanting to try. (Going off this: thoughts on heart of tarrasque for lengthy sieges?) Jugg is fucking frustrating sometimes, as I feel like there really is no way, item wise, to shore up his late game limitations. Anything I get is a day late and a dollar short. BKB feels particularly lackluster. I just feel like you should be exploiting your built in magic immunity with spin. And yeah, manfighting with bkb can be great, but most of the annoying lockdowns go through bkb anyway, and it's not cost effective to build for Jugg beyond the magic immunity. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you already effectively have a bkb for escape, positioning, initiation and chasing. I don't think spending the money and the slot to have a bkb for manfighting is worth it when you also have omnislash on top of that. In the game I listed above, I had considered after the fact buying a refresher, and I was wondering what you all thought about this. I think sixth slot refresher can be very good on Jugg. We had an invoker in this game also, and a couple of times we smoke ganked and had him pre-cast alacrity on me and I would initiate with omni. And honestly it was pretty insane. I'm starting to wonder if six slot jugg w/refresher is indeed the answer to late game spec. Anyway, I know you guys can't give a comprehensive answer as I haven't given you complete information, but thanks for reading. [link] [comments] |
Frequency of heroes picked in pubs lately Posted: 30 Jan 2017 06:54 PM PST We're all aware of the popularity of Ember Spirit in 7.00/1, but I wanted to [as I've done a couple times now in the lead-up to big events] have a look at the popularity of various heroes in high-level pubs. I use dotamastery.io to find and reference this info [I have no affiliation with the site]. In the past week, looking at number of matches in high-MMR relative to 5k+ pick rate on Dotabuff. Using the top three popular heroes, and assigning a value based on their number of games in high-level pubs in the last week relative to the pick rate in 5k+:
Relative to their dotabuff pick rates, a few anomalies have emerged:
Recently there's been a lot of Chen in high-level pubs relative to his general 5k+ pick rate, a very large number of Earth Spirit games, Enigma and Leshrac are very popular on a relative scale at the moment. The heroes showing values of 2,000 or more are extremely popular relative to their recent 5k+ pick rates, and I think given the popularity of Earth Spirit, Chen, Legion Commander and Io, unless there's some huge changes to numerous heroes [or their attribute gains] there'll be a lot of early ganking in the next major I'd say. I'm also impressed with the amount of games featuring heroes like Bane, Clockwerk, Earthshaker seems a lot more popular lately, Jakiro, Silencer are also more prominent than previously. Any high-level pub trends that you've noticed? I'll probably update this in a couple of weeks and compare it to this one for curiosity's sake. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jan 2017 12:24 PM PST it's right here. been working on this to make it top quality and to set a standard for any future guides i may make. let me know what you think. :) [link] [comments] |
When is new Mask of Madness actually good? Posted: 30 Jan 2017 04:08 AM PST I've only found 2 or 3 heroes where it can work reliably. Those are DK, LD and Lifestealer. This is because they can initiate with all their spells and then pop mom. Then their cooldowns will be back roughly when mom wears off. I find that most other heroes that could want mom have too many situational spells that you shouldn't initiate a fight with and can't wait 8 seconds to cast either (Like juggernaut). Anyone found a good use for mom or is it just a more situational (shittier) item than before? [link] [comments] |
Any tips for a returning DOTA2 player? Posted: 30 Jan 2017 10:51 AM PST The title pretty much says it all. I haven't played DOTA2 ever since TI5 and so much has changed since then. Can someone give me a brief rundown or send me a helpful link on the changes to the runes, map, heroes etc.? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jan 2017 07:45 AM PST After thinking with some friends, we decided Slardar is one of the best heroes in the game, he's a good pos 3/ 4, makes it roshan pretty easy, etc. I want to play him in the offlane, any tips on how should I behave in the lane? On the pos 3 I'm used with Axe and Underlord, what's the difference on the laning stage of these heroes and Slardar? Edit: Thank you all for the answers! Going to spamm this hero a lot with some friends, so I really appreciate. [link] [comments] |

Map changes = nerf to vision = indirect buff to invis? Posted: 30 Jan 2017 07:33 PM PST Have the map changes from 7.0 indirectly buffed invis heros and shadowblade? It feels harder to get solid vision coverage on the map due to some of the ward spots being blocked on one side by trees, etc. which seems to make it harder to keep tabs on enemy heroes. Basically makes it easier to shadowblade without the enemy spotting you out. Am I crazy? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jan 2017 03:36 PM PST I'm sorry if this isn't the place to ask such question, and pardon me for my bad english. After i played Dark Moon with my friend, he got a Batrider set and i got Mirana. I'm not that good with Mirana and he doesn't even play Batrider so we decided to trade.

Determinants of MMR increase/decrease? Posted: 30 Jan 2017 01:20 PM PST some games I win and get +40 mmr, others I win and only get +15 mmr, same goes for losing. wondering if anyone has any knowledge/insight into what determines post game mmr amount? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jan 2017 02:47 PM PST was thinking about HotD on clinkz. Gives stats atk speed and making you able to always have a creep to eat arround in situations where you dont have the time to go for one (even a big 1400 hp one). only downside is investing the 2k that early forces you to delay your power spikes (getting deso/orchid). Blight Stone or Quelling Blade against Roshan Posted: 30 Jan 2017 01:04 PM PST Hey, so I have a start where I solo Roshan with troll around 8 minutes. Not sure what weaker items to get to kill him fastest. Right now the build I do is Helm of the Domniator with a good creep, quelling and a wraithband but I'm not sure if a blight stone would be better. To be honest, I have trouble thinking of how effective armor works in dota and what percentage of extra damage it will deal to heroes/towers/roshan at certain stages of the game. I understand how I works on paper but I wouldn't really be able to tell you how much extra damage it would provide agains a T1 tower, or a level 6 witch doctor with a regen boots or without... Really confuses me. From what I know at least it would add an extra 10% damage to roshan at 8 minutes in the game but this is going from rough estimates in my head. That's about as good a quelling would be if i'm correct? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jan 2017 12:51 AM PST On lone druid, when going right click on hero, what do u think about getting blink on the bear so he can blink and entangle an enemy hero? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jan 2017 03:44 AM PST I've been sitting around 5k mmr for a few months and have not been improving as much as I would like. Are there specific games I should watch or should I just watch all of my games? [link] [comments] |
