Open Letter to new players! (and cranky Vets.)

Posted: 25 Dec 2016 01:52 AM PST

So it's Christmas day, that means a TON of games are being gifted around on Steam. (If not given as digital copies.) Let's check... Yup, ESO is on sale again. Moving on.

I've been playing since beta, and i can say without a doubt, ESO is one of the nicest, friendliest communities I have ever interacted with online. It's logical that with the Winter sale, and Christmas day, a ton of new players will be joining us in Tamriel.

For new players...There's a ton of information i'm tempted to spew out to get you to know what i know and experience what i've experienced, but that's not exactly how it works. Everyone who joins today and until the winter sale is over. (And beyond!) Will play the way they want to play, and have their own route to Champion Ranks and eventually, end-game. I encourage every new player browsing /r/elderscrollsonline to start getting familiar with the community and the playerbase. I really cannot run this hard enough. We want to help you, with anything you need, because there's nothing that makes us oldies feel warm like a healthy, happy community. PM us, mail us, reach out to us. We're more than happy to help you, but personally, i don't want to do that unless you ask. Mostly to respect how you want to play and your individual adventures.

For us oldies...I'm just requesting we have patience and understanding with the new voices we'll see in zone-chat, our pug runs, the subreddit, or the forums. I know the future is looking a little ambiguous with the only coming update we have is player housing. Everyone has to start somewhere. Please try to keep this important truth in mind when your patience is running low on the pug pulling 8k dps with a two-hander.

Be excellent to each other, new players to veterans, and vice-versa. I really do mean it when i think that this is the best community I've ever come across. You're all amazing people and the game wouldn't feel the same without any of you.

Merry Christmas everyone, and welcome, new players, (back?) to Tamriel!

I wish we could give to beggars

I wish we could give a small amount of gold to beggars, seeing them and not being able to do anything makes me a little sad. Maybe in exchange of some small buff or material or something?

Going to get ESO Plus today - Here are a few questions I have.

Posted: 25 Dec 2016 07:15 AM PST

Hey guys, I have been playing ESO for the last week ( I played during the summer for maybe a month, but stopped playing because I had other games to play) and finally decide I am going to buy a 180days subscription today.

Here are a few questions I have.

(I'm lvl 50 140CP and a European PC player btw )

I know I will have access to every DLC, so where should I start first? Should I go straight to PvP in Imperial city, or do quests for the dark brotherhood? Should I dive in becoming a master thieve in thieves guild or go first enjoy the new veteran dlc dungeons ?

Also, I am gonna get 9000 crowns to spend on the crown store! What Items should I buy?

Also, can anyone explain me how the crafting bag works? (not sure if that's the correct name)

Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas everyone !

PS: sorry for any grammar error or bad formatting. I'm Portuguese and I wrote this on my smartphone.

Coming back to my level 48 character, is the Pyromancer still a thing anymore?

Posted: 25 Dec 2016 11:40 AM PST

Hey all! Christmas re-noob (?) here and I have a Pyromancer that I used to play (destructo with resto swap). It's my most levelled character by far but now I have NO clue what I'm doing or where I'm going. Is there a "What to do when..." guide that is out there? Also, is my class completely useless now? Dark Elf Fire DK

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I guess it would be worth mentioning.. is it better just to start over?

A sidenote about the DB Passives...

Posted: 25 Dec 2016 12:49 AM PST

I'd just like to say the Shadow Rider passive is really under rated. It's GOT to be way more than 50% decreased detection while mounted, at least 75%. I'm sitting mounted 5 feet away from a world boss while I'm writing this, and there's even the occasional instance where I can even ride through enemy NPCs without them aggro'ing at me. It's really nice. That is all.

Just hit 50. What now?

Posted: 25 Dec 2016 11:11 AM PST

Hi all. Merry Christmas! Before anything else, if there is a link or something in the sidebar that I missed, please let me know! I didn't see anything at first glance.

So as the title says, I just hit 50, and I'm wondering where to go now.

A couple of things:

  • I've only touched the main quest a bit, and so that's obviously on the table.
  • I pretty much to PvE. My main game is Guild Wars 2, where I help run a fairly large guild, so ESO is a game I like to play when I feel like running around more or less alone. To that end, I'm not particularly interested in doing dungeons or other group content unless I get more invested in this game. That includes PvP and Alliance War.
  • To my shame, I ground out 35 to 50 doing some Dolmen farming (Crown exp scrolls and mead made it quick and painless). I figured that, given the One Tamriel thing, I'd have more fun tweaking some sort of build and just faffing around.

So, where do I go from here?

Here are some of my main questions (bonus points if you can equate them to GW2 terms/activities):

  1. What are the gear rarities? Can I get by with all purples?
  2. How important are meta-builds to me, given some of the above notes? As I'll be pretty much a filthy casual 24/7, I'll just cobble together something that works otherwise.
  3. We often joke in GW2 that the end-game meta is Fashion Wars. I love playing around with character looks, so is there a transmutation/transmog option in this game? I'm not adverse to spending crowns, if such an option exists. This guy has some pretty sweet looking gear. How would I go about assembling such an ensemble?
  4. (Bonus for anyone familiar with GW2 and Nightblades). While it's certainly not my main class, I do enjoy the mobility and glass-cannony-ness that a dagger/pistol DD provides. In particular, I love how stealth in GW2 works for this profession; stealing in, dropping blind fields, and yes, HSing mobs down, rolling away and dropping a Shadow Refuge when I need to GTFO, all of that. Is there a way to replicate this kind of experience with a Nightblade?

Thanks!

Vampirism stage one

Does anyone know if you still take bonus damage from dawnbreaker in stage one? I know there's no weakness to fire but I'm unsure about dawnbreaker and any other skills that do bonus damage to vampires.

Bind on Pickup

Posted: 25 Dec 2016 01:44 PM PST

Greetings Reddit!

PC/NA player here just hit CP160 about a week ago. i have a quick question that i hope you guys know the answer to. Lots of the high end "BiS" gear that everyone talks about is bind on pickup.

I wanted to know if once you equip a piece of gear that is bind on equip or bind on pickup, is it bound to that particular toon only? or can you put that gear in your bank and use it on your other characters as well?

For example, if i got a full set of vicious ophidian, and used it on my stamina nightblade for vMA, can i then put that gear in the bank and use it for my stam sorc as well? or do i have to farm a second set of vicious ophidian for him?

Thanks!

Night Mother Gaze or Twice-Fanged Serpent

Posted: 25 Dec 2016 01:28 PM PST

Hi guys,

I have been looking at both sets recently and I can't decide which one would be more beneficial for trials and group dungeons. I am thinking twice fanged would def be nice in pvp.

Hoping to get some feedback on which set you guys think is a better or more geared towards certain situations. Thanks!
