| Is it smart as a new player to not go straight into ranked even if I have the ability to? Posted: 08 May 2018 10:08 AM PDT I want to learn as much as I can before I hop into ranked. I currently have 40 hours. I've also heard about mmr hell which is something I want to avoid. I'm also curious if keeping a notebook would be effective. Since patches change the game all the time, would keeping a notebook be more of a hassle, or would it help in learning by taking notes as I learn? [link] [comments] |
| I don't understand how vision works in this game at all. Posted: 08 May 2018 06:58 AM PDT I understand that trees block LOS, but unless wards are involved LOS should work both ways, right? So I'm playing my third or so game of Dota, match number 3874500622. I'm Witch Doctor on Radiant. If you pause at 10:18, Pudge is in the trees. There are no wards around, but he can obviously see me...which is fine, I'm in the lane. But I can't see him, even though he has LOS on me. Why? As for wards...they seem almost useless. Wards don't grant any more LOS than you would have if you were there; they just cause enemy icons to appear on the minimap if an enemy gets into their LOS. That means that a ward in the middle of trees is almost useless because its LOS is blocked by all the trees. I was expecting them to actually illuminate an area. That only seems to happen if you put a ward on one of the elevated warding spots, but there aren't very many of those. So...what do I do to keep from getting continually ganked by people I can't see? | Posted: 08 May 2018 03:54 PM PDT Most recent match as an example: https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/3875651011 Lately I have been on a huge losing streak. I don't lose every game, but I lose the overwhelming majority of my solo games. I like to play carry or mid, and I think I am reasonably good at the role considering my rank (Crusader 0). However, it seems like I just can't capitalize on my advantage. I spoke to a 4.5k friend a few days ago and he said that the days of solo-carrying games are mostly over - more often than not you need your team to win. Now, I don't want to say that all my teammates are trash and I'm the next Miracle... but I consistently perform well in my games, but still can't win, and I often also identify the reasons why (to a certain degree), yet fail to actually do something about it. For example, in the above game, our win condition was: Don't let morph get farm. The moment he outfarms us, we start losing. And that is what happened. I know Juggernaut can fight early, and I did that, but I also focused on farming (getting a bfury) in order to keep our advantage up, as well as pushing lanes. With a lineup like Slark and Bounty, ganks should've been very easy. Yet we didn't manage to shut him down, and that cost us the game in the end. I ended up with second highest networth in the game, a good KAD (a few more deaths towards the end since they were pushing our base and morph was really strong), and I feel like we had the midgame under control. And as I said, I lose most of my solo games to a combination of such factors: No teamplay, falling off, missing timings. Is there any help or advice you people can give? [link] [comments] |
| Just started Dota 2, need help playing 1v2 Posted: 08 May 2018 09:39 AM PDT So my friend really wanted me to play dota 2 with me, he's been playing for a long time, but doesn't really help at all. And neither does anyone in the game. They put me into a lane 2v1 for some reason, and I have no idea how to even survive that lane, I picked bloodseeker and the enemy had a Lion and the "demon guy who can transform to ranged" or something like that, looked like groot, so whatever, anyway, I was 2v1 and I couldn't do anything, couldn't even go close to the creeps, it was horrible. So my question, what should you do in 2v1? Do you really have to just hug the tower and try to kill creeps when they are under it, or is there something else to it? [link] [comments] |
| Is morphling too OP right now? Posted: 08 May 2018 02:41 PM PDT As title says. Or perhaps I'm just noob? I find myself banning him every single game nowadays. How about you guys? [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 08 May 2018 03:45 PM PDT I've just played a game with bots and the midas CD wasn't independent anymore like it was until recently. Now you need to ult with Midas out of CD so you can Midas with the double? [link] [comments] |
| Is it worth to buy basic battlepass as non hardcore player? Posted: 08 May 2018 04:33 AM PDT I like to play about three dota games a day and I have been playing DOTA for about a year. With all the hype coming for BP, is it worth buying for pretty casual player? I don't want to end with 2 treasures after spending 10 bucks on it in September. How fast does it lvl with, lets assume, 3 games a day? [link] [comments] |

| How to play around a mid enemy who is way better at cs and denies than you are? Posted: 08 May 2018 02:01 PM PDT The past few times that I've played mid (low level pub), I've been getting absolutely wrecked. Usually because the enemy is really good at getting last hits and denies so that I'm barely getting any. I can usually get cs and denies just fine on side lanes, but I guess that's cause it's easy to manipulate the lane to your advantage, and there's usually 2 of you I usually am the highest level on my team, bu the enemy team gets like 2 levels ahead of me and becomes a powerhouse. Now, the first time this happened, it was an obvious smurf (i checked his profile, and it was lvl 1 with really good game knowledge and skill and only 1 game prior to the one with me), but I doubt it's the case that every time I've midded so far has been against a smurf (i didn't investigate the others cause it's not a good habit). I just suck against good mid players I've been getting flamed so much by my team (soloq), and then I get tilted as fuck, so I just need to somehow step up my mid play. And develop a thick skin haha, but that's a different issue [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 08 May 2018 01:53 PM PDT 4.5k player, lamenting over the loss of my last game. My puck had built orchid, and later hex, against a bkb slark, so I thought nullifier would be a good complement (with hex, + 5 seconds of lockdown) considering his teammates had no purges / way to deal with it. However whenever we tried to co ordinate onto the slark, I would run in, nullfiy after dark pact, then slark would ulti a couple of seconds later and my puck (who was casting spells at slark) would not silence him. My attempt to make plays like this cost me a few deaths and lots of time wasted. Is there any point in coordinating like this? It has fantastic results on the rare occasion you really click with someone but I feel like building butterfly / abyssal would have been much better considering the poor results. What are people's experiences? [link] [comments] |
| How do you push high grounds against Medusa and Techies Posted: 08 May 2018 06:32 PM PDT I played pos 5 with my friends and they picked Medusa and Techies. Enemy team absolutely have no chance of getting high ground even with aegis. I dewarded all of their wards on high ground. Our base is full of Techies bombs and destroyed their attempt to reach Medusa. Medusa eventually got lategame items and we won the game. Now I wonder what I can do against this pair because this looks too stressful to fight against. [link] [comments] |

| Curious: Importance of Defensive Itemization as Pos 5 Posted: 08 May 2018 01:06 AM PDT I've been trying to lessen my deaths recently as Pos 5, while sticking to the nature of Pos 5 as prioritizing wards and other such items. I've been winning alright (currently riding 5 games in a row with Warlock), but I've still been dying a lot. Not hitting double digits is an achievement for me. I've tried to get better at positioning and I realize when I watch my replays that it's still not perfect, but better than before (or at least I'm more conscious about it). However, sometimes I do become a priority target (of say, a Riki, which is pretty commonly picked these days), and I just die. I know an answer to this would be Ghost Scepter (or Force Staff), but how do I go about prioritizing that in my items? Or should I accept that I'd die (and try to throw Golem so my team can counter-initiate) "for the team"? My approach has been the latter, but I'm thinking of how I can improve this. | Buying regen vs going back to base Posted: 08 May 2018 12:26 AM PDT One thing I noticed when watching pro streams is how little they go back to base. They seem to constantly ferry out clarities and regen. Seems to make sense when you can farm back the cost for the regen over walking back to base. So for my question;
Any other pointers on going back to base less would also be appreciated. I'm at 3.5k [link] [comments] |

| Quick question: If someone in your lobby gets disconnected in draft, does the whole lobby lose mmr? Posted: 08 May 2018 11:17 AM PDT I checked my mmr right before queing and after he got disconnected I checked again and I had lost around 50 mmr. Is that a bug or is that how it is? | Mid and lategame farming and itemization with Windranger Posted: 08 May 2018 02:42 PM PDT Disclaimer: mid 2k here After all the direct and indirect buffs, I've recently started to try Windranger mid. She's a very powerful laner, as always, and I've had success in all match-ups so far. I tend to build double Talisman and from then on I'm basically uncontested. Then, I usually build Phase Boots, Maelstrom, Blink and Aghs. With that said, now comes the tricky part. I don't really know what to do once the laning phase is over and the mid tower is down. I don't feel like she's a powerful enough flash farmer, and the jungle feels very ineffective in between waves. Setting up pick-offs before Aghs also feels difficult, due to the long cooldown on her ult and the fact that her physical damage is insufficient to kill anyone during a full length Shackleshot. I've checked my gold graphs against other mids and, regardless of the outcome of the game, they always farm better than me. What should I do to improve my farming with the hero, stay on top of the networth charts and feel like I'm having the most impact at any given time, not just the laning stage? Thanks! | Is ranked any better than unranked? Posted: 08 May 2018 10:27 AM PDT Hi, I have been having this issue in unranked where I'll get some good games, then get strings of really bad one sided losses. I wanted to know if it would be better to do ranked, would this help to avoid or curb these one sided games or would that same issue persist there as well? I haven't done ranked in a long time so I'm curious if it would be any better. [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 08 May 2018 02:08 PM PDT I am wanting to improve my laning stage in mid. Especially for QOP as she can dominate most match ups. What is the most efficient and quickest way to improve my laning stage / cs at 10 min? Find someone better than me to 1v1 repeatedly, cs mini game or grind out games? I am learning mid and really just want my laning stage to be at the best it can possibly be as improving the late game is much more complex and I feel the laning stage is neglected in player improvement Any response is very much appreciated [link] [comments] |

Terrible things I know I did:
Things I think I did okay'ish (by my standards)
Be aware that this is terrible gameplay. I'll probably land in the 1k bracket when I unlock ranked but I really wanna improve so feel free to be hard on me ! | Is Mask of Madness no longer reliable on Void after it was changed to silence when activated? Posted: 08 May 2018 01:23 AM PDT Whenever I've used MoM as Void, it has always hindered me from escaping after Chrono ends. You cannot Time Walk away once you've activated it, and that's a huge disadvantage. [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 08 May 2018 12:47 PM PDT It's normal skill bracket unranked, and I am playing as Luna. Half of my matches either end up with me getting a killing streak and winning the game, or us getting wrecked and lose within 20 minutes. Dotabuff: https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/3875463357 Please be very critical I am open to the harshest comments about my plays. [link] [comments] |
