[Suggestion] Make it easier for new players to join community servers

Posted: 08 May 2018 05:10 AM PDT

I've noticed allot of newcomers have a hard time joining community servers. My suggestion would be to put community servers first and official servers second on the server selection screen. I think this would help populate and support community servers.

Hopefully occlusion and LOD gets better as 0.63 develops.

Posted: 07 May 2018 03:54 PM PDT

The occlusion is great, but it causes spikes in performance when zooming in and looking around. Performance also seems to be affected in forests regardless of zoom or not when looking around. Both of these issues arise regardless of settings applied.

I have decent PC specs and average 60-90(with exception to zooming in and looking around) in city settings with decent-to-high settings.

Update: now the stuttering is bad. I'm wondering if it's the trees blowing. Experimenting with settings is having little affect. I can run 0.62 perfectly, so idk what I'm doing wrong.

What quality setting is XBox One X version running at?

Posted: 08 May 2018 03:01 AM PDT

I've played a reasonable amount of Dayz on PC but I'm not really a PC gamer so I'm considering getting a Xbox One X to play this on. It's difficult to tell from the Youtube videos but does anyone know what quality settings the XBox One X version is running at? I know they are stating a 50-60fps at 1080p but I haven't seen mention of what quality setting this is at?

I'm just trying to gauge how it will compare to playing it on a GTX 970/4690 CPU.

A Crash Course to DailyScape - What repeatable activities to do, and how.

Posted: 07 May 2018 07:16 PM PDT

(Posting in an incomplete form to test out the formatting, still a work in progress, sorry y'all. Also open to formatting feedback)

(EDIT: This guide will be changed to a Google Doc format in the future, as all the content is unlikely to fit here).

What is DailyScape?

DailyScape encompasses the elements of the game that can be done on a regular, repeatable basis. More specifically, the term refers to repeatable activities that are done because they are extremely efficient in terms of XP or GP gain relative to time spent. These activities save a lot of time in the long run, which is why you should do them as often as you can, unless your real-life schedule conflict with them, or they become tedious and unenjoyable to you.

About this guide

This post is meant as a crash course that contains only the most important info about repeatable (daily/weekly/monthly, and XP/GP in that order) events, their rewards, and important strategies to complete them efficiently. More detailed (and less essential) information can be found on RuneWiki. Because XP rewards for most of these activities scales with level, this guide is aimed at mid-high level players (70+ stats), though most activities are open (and useful) to all. Community input is of course appreciated.

This guide will (eventually) cover: Guthixian Caches, Sinkholes, Wilderness Warbands, Gobie Supply Runs (Goebiebands), Divine Locations, Sandstone Mining, Vis Wax, and Wicked Hood Runecrafting.

Daily Events

Guthixian Caches:

  • Requirements: None.
  • Frequency: every hour at 00 minutes; up to 200 points/day, maximum 100 points/game. Done effectively, you can complete a game with 100 points in 5-7 minutes.
  • Notable Rewards: Divination XP (100k+/day at 85 Divination), chance at Divination skilling outfit.

Strategies:

  • The goal is to get to 100 points as quickly as possible.
  • The mobile perk allows for extremely fast completion and should always be used (on an armor top/legs). This allows you to Surge from the walls to the center, and have Surge ready again by the time you pick up another memory. With proper timing you can even surge past active automatons.

  • Cres strategies: maximize your time in Cres form before level 85 Divination. Emptier worlds are usually better for getting points as Cres. Run around in a circle and tag automatons - Confused and Enraged automatons spawn in the corners, prioritize getting to them. Activate your x2 point ability right before tagging a Confused/Enraged automaton for maximum points; try to time ending on a confused/enraged as well. Save your mass-subdue ability for when Cres form is about to expire.

  • Running memories strategies: Use mobile to jump from the wall to the center. At level 85+ Divination, use crowded worlds like W2 as more players means less risk of being tagged by an automaton. At 85+, pick up memories from the northern wall - I find the distance to the center is shortest there, and Large and Ancient memories always spawn there. Using your x2 points ability optimally is key to fast Cache finishes. Pick up a memory --> Click the center rift --> Surge, after the animation immediately activate the ability - you must do this before the animation for dumping the memory starts. Practice timing and watch your points to see if you are doing it correctly. With Mobile Surging in a straight line at the northern wall and no automaton interference you should easily be able to do 2 memories per boost; 3 can be done with good timing. The invulnerability ability is useful when active automatons would interfere with runs, especially x2 point runs.

Sinkholes:

  • Requirements: None.
  • Frequency: every hour at 00:30; 2 games/day, maximum 2 games per Sinkhole. On average, 2 games last 15 minutes, but you must join an active world (W134) and be there when everyone else is starting, no more than 1-2 minutes after Sinkhole opens.
  • Notable Rewards: Dungeoneering XP dependent on the results of the game; most players should be able to secure 2 medium lamps (60k XP at level 85), but the XP ceiling is much higher. Also a decent amount of Dungeoneering tokens.

Strategies:

  • The goal is to maximize your score (while handing in at least 1 of each type of resource) so you can go last in the treasure room phase, and then playing optimally in treasure room to maximize your lamp XP (or you can go for tokens if you wish). Played optimally, this game is competitive and always involves risk-reward decisions between gathering resources and running back to hand them in. However, even sub-optimal play rewards excellent XP. Below are only basic guidelines, you must be able to adapt to the situation - to what other players are doing - to maximize your score. Ultimately, experience is the best teacher when it comes to maximizing your score.

  • Regarding combat, magic is the best style to use because of access to excellent AoE abilities. Most enemies die in 1-2 hit, so you do not need big-damage single-target abilities. I change my Magic ability bar for Sinkholes to Chain --> Dragonbreath --> Corruption Blast. Chain allows you to tag multiple monsters, downing them quickly or at least tagging them so their drops go to you and not other players on your path. Also activate a magic-boosting prayer for whatever small difference it makes.

  • Early-game strategies: your goal is to collect as many exploration and combat totems as you can, as quickly as you can, as you run through rooms. It is often best to go on a route that few other players are taking to maximize your points, keep this in mind as you choose your path. At the same time, try to predict which paths are likely to lead to dead-ends. For example, in the starting room, there is a clearly-marked door that always leads to the treasure room, and this room is never connected to any other room. So in the staring room, if there is a door opposite to the treasure room door, this door most like to be connected to multiple other rooms, so try to take it if it is not being crowded by others.

  • Running through rooms: Often you will be rushing in the same direction with another player(s). Most people rush exploration totems, but the optimal play is to balance getting the room's one exploration totem with getting as many combat totems as you can. Exploration totems are quick to get but only worth 20 points; combat totems are worth 30 and you may be able to gather multiple quickly with AoE spells, but the death animation will slow you down. Keep your eye on the other player(s) - if they are very likely to pick up the one exploration totem, then switch to tagging monsters to secure their combat totems. If the other player(s) are a little behind you, you may be able to tag the monsters, denying them from others, and also pick up the exploration totems. You do want to pick up the combat totems that drop eventually, before they are visible to your opponents. I usually pick them up before I leave a room, unless I am in a heated race with someone, when I might come back for them. Again, the Surge ability can very useful to rush to the exploration totem or even just to the next door, but it is best used in straight lines where you are unlikely to be blocked by a wall or box or what have you. Ignore skilling resources, but it might be worthwhile to memorize double-resource plots, indicated with swirling orbs above them (except trees which are currently bugged and the double-resource effect has no visual indicator), to come back for them if convenient. Hand in your combat and exploration totems at the first deposit that you find that does not take you out of your way.

  • End-game: Here it becomes important to balance gathering resources (finishing off combat/exploration and switching focus to skilling) and handing them in before the resource cap is reached, so keep an eye out on the score list, know the closest deposit point, and try to be aware of how other players are balancing gathering with handing in - again, experience is the ultimate teacher and you will get a better sense of what risks are worth it the more you play. Above all, for maximum XP, it is absolutely crucial you hand in at least 1 of each type of resource. Usually, leaving skilling to the end is fine because no one else is handing in that type of resource, but if for some reason the skilling score reaches a critical point, like half-way, you should abandon everything and quickly find and hand in a skilling resource. This will rarely happen and it is almost always perfectly safe (and effective) to leave skilling to the end.

  • Regarding skilling, try to collect in rooms close to a deposit box, that have multiple resources clustered together (especially double-resources), and that are mostly free from other players. From my experience, all tiers of resources gather at the same speed (e.g heim crabs collected as fast as cave morays), harvest speed appears to be sporadic (so it may take 5 seconds or 15 seconds to empty one skilling plot from its 3 resources), and I do not know if harvest tool tier matters, though I bound the highest tier anyway. Having the quick-teleport Dungeoneering upgrade purchased is very useful for last-second depositing in the starting room. On a final note, sometimes in the end-game the cap for exploration or combat will still not have been hit - it might be worthwhile look out for any unopened rooms, and consider stopping what your are doing to collect exploration/combat resources from those rooms.

  • Treasure room: this phase is again all about risk-reward decisions and mindgames, so the results are often unpredictable, though there are strategies to optimize your performance. Obviously, the later you go, the better. The rest of the strategy here revolves around use of cards found alongside resource drops in the dungeon rooms, or from chests in the rooms. You can only carry 5 at a time, so I recommend not picking up the less useful ones (Bunyip, Smoke Devil) or duplicates. You can quickly destroy these cards, even in the treasure room, by right-clicking and hitting Y. Your goal in the treasure room is to get the most XP from lamps as possible. Note: Any combination of multiple lamps, even small + medium, is better than any single lamp, even Huge - play accordingly.

  • Regarding the cards, Bunyip and Smoke Devil are too unpredictable and thus mostly useless unless you can do nothing better. Titan is useless when going last or second-to-last, and more useful the earlier you go; reversing phoenix is the opposite. Yak is decent overall, good for when you are going early and at risk of ending up with a small lamp or tokens, either because of chest placement or steals. Leech, Mantis and Locust are all self-explanatory, use them to trade for better chests, but be aware the next person may trade their even worse chest with yours. Meerkats are often the best card in the game, but they make you an easy target for stealing. Regarding the Mosquito, it is often common courtesy to announce when you have one, because it indicates that there is no risk to either party of someone going ahead of you to steal your chest. However, a special consideration is when you are first and have Meerkats. Announcing that you have the cloning card makes you a target for stealing, which removes the opportunity of using Meerkats instead, which would have given you Huge + Medium.
