ARMA An open letter to BIS from a wounded veteran.

An open letter to BIS from a wounded veteran.

Posted: 27 Feb 2018 04:22 AM PST

Dear Bohemia Interactive Studios, I'll skip the formalities and hope that this will find someone from BIS. As a young child I yearned to be part of the United States Army's Infantry. When the age of 17 came by I enlisted under my parents support. After graduating high school I set off for OSUT at Fort Benning. I completed my training and was sent off to unit (25th ID). After a couple months of nothing but cutting grass and basic drill we were told that we finally were getting to deploy. I was scared . . . excited. When we landed we quickly got into patrolling and QRF detail. About 3 weeks into my deployment I was struck by a (what we believe) to be an RPG's shrapnel. My right leg took the brunt of the force and my hip was shattered. I was sent home and med-boarded out. When I returned to my mother and fathers house I was in anger. I finally got to my dream, I finally was a soldier, I finally had my career set and it was taken from me. I was depressed and even attempted suicide. I remembered to the days I played Arma Armed Assault and about where I started REALLY wanting to be a soldier. I picked up Arma 2, and then 3 upon release, and was met with a shear excitement when I started playing. These games, they gave me mobility again, they gave me a sense of a purpose, and with the community out there I was welcomed very warmly to units to do training and drills. Yes it isn't the same but it was just enough to keep me out of that pit of hell I called my own mind at the time. Beyond that there isn't much to say other than thank you BIS. If it wasn't for you and this game I may not have found the mobility I once had or the joy of being a soldier again.

What is the best single player Zombie MOD these days?

Posted: 27 Feb 2018 09:24 PM PST

Which Zombie MOD offers the best sandbox survival experience? Day Zero, Ravage and Exile look like three good ones. Can anyone offer some opinions on those and others?

(For Arma 3)

Thanks.

Are there any gamemodes that are popular, besides KOTH, and RPLife?

Posted: 27 Feb 2018 11:16 AM PST

I love main road camping, and mass RDMing as much as the next fellow. But i'm completely over it. Are there any BR, or Wasteland, ect gamemodes still popular? All i see on the server browser is KOTH, and RPLife.

Let us bring back Arma 3 Battle Royale!

Posted: 27 Feb 2018 05:47 PM PST

Can we bring this back? This is what pioneered all of the shitty games we see now (PUBG/Fortnite) and in my opinion was way more fun. I just wanted to bring attention to this. battleroyale servers

Arma 4 - What SP/MP gamemodes do you want?

Posted: 27 Feb 2018 02:30 PM PST

I know there has been alot of talk about Arma 4 recently and about its potential locations or eras that people would want; but how about its official gamemodes/mission files, singleplayer or multiplayer, what do you guys wanna see? talk to me.

Me personally would love to see some simple ones put in there such as like an official TDM or whatever if you just wanna get into some PVP with defined loadouts, I'm sure there is alot of community ones but an official take would be cool although that might be better left to Argo

A gamemode similar to Rush from Battlefield would also be cool imo, I know there is currently a community made version of this for A3 but servers seem to have died out sadly. CTI would also be cool to see again. Maybe an official KOTH?

What are your opinions/requests?

New massive objective mission with teamplay-fun.

Posted: 26 Feb 2018 11:01 AM PST

Hey guys,

i've been developing my own massive - multiplayer mission for a while. I know gamemodes like KoTH are actually frowned upon here because "duh casual" but i've got to admit it was a great portion of my arma-experience. It has flaws. But none which cant be fixed.

"Don't hate the player hate the game" i thought to myself and started criticizing the gamemode maker Sa-Matra.

You can sum up my mission in 5 aspects.? TLDR

  • Multi-Sector-Control
  • Squad-Oriented
  • Individualized Operations
  • Military Orders (achievements)
  • Designated Ranks/Classes

Here is a screenshot of the respawn-menu for reference. And here is the image with small explanations.

These are the things i've been missing from other missions and i want to combine them. As a Squad of say 8 players, each with a different class/perks and mission, has the abillity to choose between multiple dynamic OPERATIONS. Be it the main target of attacking a specific sector or just a side operation to capture a island-sector which would unlock an vehicular (tank/anti-air/jet) advantage for your team. Staying in your Squad pays off in a way that your completed operations give you a huge amount of xp and money. Very satisfying. Depending on how you make your experience points you level your "skills" e.g. a high range-kill gives your xp for your recon class which in return allows you unlocking assets or whole weapons. another skill you could train for example is your "commanding-skill" which gets leveled just by capturing sectors and gives you the priviledge of choosing the objective for your squad. Quite resembles a service-star-system. And every progess made is saved ofcourse.

This is in my opinion just a very small insight of what i am actually planning for the future. What is your opinion on this. Would you actually like to ocassionally play this. Do you see flaws or have suggestions?

Cheers.

Ammo type explanation

Posted: 26 Feb 2018 02:58 PM PST

So i was always curious about the different ammo types. What do the different more special ammo types do, like barring the obvious ones like subsonic and tracer. Like the ones with the codes in the name, since theres no descriptions for them its tough to build an optimal loadout.

Clarification regarding start-up parameters

Posted: 26 Feb 2018 06:26 AM PST

I see a lot of different performance guides mention stuff like malloc=tbbmalloc which should "significantly affect performance", but these guides fail to mention that there are parameters availible in the launcher. One of these lets you choose a memory allocator, and are these not the same thing? At the same time, many guides tell you to write "enableHT", but that too is a tickable box in the parameters section. Are there differences between line parameters and launcher parameters?

TL;DR - are there benefits / is there a difference when selecting memory allocator in launcher parameters and typing malloc=tbbmalloc in lineparameters?

Thanks!
