G's Message to The People of The Earth!

Stumbled accross this one today. Only played it 15 years after launch but still managed to grow up playing this. Just to make some of you guys feel old.

I gave someone SFV and it felt great!

Posted: 13 Aug 2018 04:19 AM PDT

So......my favorite 13yo cousin told me that he finally got a ps4 a few days ago and he saw me playing SFVAE on mine and he was loving it and geeking out about how many times he rented SFIV for ps3 from the local video club because he couldn't afford it and talking to me about how cool Ryu looks in SFV and that its his favorite character and I couldn't help it! I gave it to him (i had a physical copy) and I felt GREAT! he was hugging me and tearing up! The game is on sale on ps store for 9.99 so I bought it again (I was planning to buy it again on digital so.........)! I think it's hard for a 13yo but he loves it so much that I think he'll try to work it out, he 'played' IV though!

Do you think Nemo is going to play G competitively?

Posted: 13 Aug 2018 09:39 AM PDT

I'm just as excited as the next guy to watch Bonchan pick up Sagat again. It really has been a blast to watch, but Nemo's G play is looking pretty promising too. He's so good at confirming with G's light normals, particularly s.lp and s.lk that his G always has charge. Is there any news on whether or not he might play him at a tournament?

First fighting game but everyone in rookie rank seems to be pretty good?

Posted: 13 Aug 2018 01:37 AM PDT

Hey everyone I've been watching SFV tournaments on twitch for a year or so and finally decided to pick it up. I did story mode and survival for about 3 weeks then plucked up the courage to go into ranked after watching those Gootecks tutorial videos.

The thing is.... I don't expect to be good but it seems like I am not being matched against other new players like me. I mean videos often say things like don't worry about combos just focus on the fundamentals but my opponents in rookie rank seem to be able to do really long high damage combos. From watching the pro games on twitch I can tell they might not pro gamers or anything but they definitely don't seem like they should be down at the rank of someone who has literally just bought the game lol!

Do I need to do something in particular to fight people who are quite new like me? I am just doing ranked search right now, I can't really find any battle lounges in my area below diamond.

Counterhit Combo help

Posted: 13 Aug 2018 07:34 AM PDT

Ive been practicing all the combos in a character combo video to improve my consistency. But when it comes to counterhit combos Im a bit lost. Am I expected to realize fast enough I hit a counter and change my combo accordingly? Especially for lights and some mediums it seems nearly impossible. So I'm wondering if I'm going about it wrong and its more about 'knowing' I'm about to hit a counterhit. If I really am just meant to react is there any way to get better at that besides doing it 1 million times?

I have similar issues with light confirms if anyone can offer advice there as well

EDIT: Doesn't include crush counters. I'm competent enough to be able to react to those.

To the New Players, this game is hard. Get used to it.

Posted: 12 Aug 2018 11:08 AM PDT

Seems like almost daily we get yet another post from a new player complaining about this game.

"I am <insert high rank> in completely different genre, wtf is this game why is it so hard?" "I've been playing <insert hours less than 1 month> and losing all the time, why is this game so hard?" "I'm mashing all the buttons, but that seems to happen is I die!" "Special moves <motion + button> are hard!" "I haven't trained at all, why I am not winning?!"

Get used to it guys. Your skills in MOBAs, FPS, RTS, MMOs, and any other genre that isn't Fighting Games don't apply here (for the most part). It doesn't matter if you're the world champ at whatever game in those genres, you're starting fresh here.

A lot of us actually started before SF5, and if you think starting fresh in SF5 is hard, let me open your eyes. Combos were a lot harder. Training mode was more basic. There was no priority system, so jabs would screw up everything. You didn't get Critical Art (equivalent) until you filled up 4 bars! There was no V-Reversal. There were a lot of actual unescapable setups and you could just die and there was nothing you could do about it. Some of us had the misfortune of spending weeks to months without a single win. The netcode was actually worse, and cheating was far more rampant than it is now. There was in game voice chat as well, so you could be harassed by bad actors while playing any random match. Blacklist didn't exist, so you could be harassed in lounges pretty easily as well.

There were a lot of improvements geared towards making a beginner's life easier, and you still aren't having success.

You guys have it easy. If you put in any effort at all towards actually training things, you're going to have a good time. This is not a genre you can get by in by just doing things in matches. If you have actual questions about how to improve, things to work on, everyone would be happy to help. But if you're bitching about sucking, save yourself the misery and move on to a different genre.

Assuming you do want to improve, your first stop is Gief's Gym : https://www.reddit.com/r/StreetFighter/wiki/v/giefsgym

What’s a good character to play to take the next step?

Posted: 13 Aug 2018 09:50 AM PDT

Hey guys, been maining Zangief and made it to Silver rank. Took some time off but started training again right before EVO. I know I'm not a pro, and that feeling stuck is my fault and not the character's, but I just can't help but feel he isn't the right choice for me. I never feel dangerous and I never feel confident going into almost any match up.

I'm looking to try a new character but don't know where to start. Abigail? Mika? I like the idea of command grabs but at this point I'm more interested in trying an aggressive character. Any advice from people that have switched mains is welcome! My ultimate goal is Platinum rank, but honestly Gold would a be a massive achievement. Thanks!

BornFree’s interview with Fujimura reveals the reason for his name change, his training regimen, and more

Why Am I still angry that Problem-X didn't get his Speech moment at EVO??

Posted: 12 Aug 2018 09:04 PM PDT

i know that I should let this go but it's been bugging me all week. It doesn't seem like it's that big a deal to most of the community, but these guys train hard all year. EVO is the most prestigious, most important tournament to most of these guys. They fight HARD to get here and to win. Problem X overcame everything and took out Tokido...

I get that Capcom was running late and I get that the announcement of Sagat and G were important...

But the lack of celebration, the lack of confetti, the whole pomp and circumstance was completely absent for him.

He's a great guy that rarely gets interviewed and I know that he hasn't made a big deal of it and is just happy to have won. Combined with the fact that the EVO Top 8 Winners really didn't win that much money (not that 20k is a joke, but compared to other events), and this is just...it just rubs me the wrong way. It might not be a big deal and there are so many more important first world problems, but these past few victories by Punk, and Mena, and Caba showing Daigo the business, and CoolKid and Smug at Eleague and Kbrad getting so far, and Problem X...They're important. They're VERY important.

I'm just saying, I'd love to have heard what Problem X had to say and to share in his moment with him. They didn't have to have that long ass speech by the G actor. At all. It's shade. Just saying.

Is SFV really supposed to be easier than Tekken?

Posted: 13 Aug 2018 03:38 AM PDT

I've been playing Tekken for half a year and recently bought SFV as well. I feel like SFV is MUCH harder than Tekken. I literally can't do a single combo, I just spent like 2 hours straight trying to do Bison's 9. trial and not only I couldn't do it but my fingers hurt as fuck now. Like, you have to mash every single move in this game like a wild animal if you want to connect them into a combo. A standing 1 connected to a crouching 1 in Tekken is simple as hell, here you have to press standing 1 then mash d1 like crazy for 1 entire second, or it won't register as a crouching 1 but as another standing 1. My character is already in the mid-crouch animation, I think "Oh, nice, he's gonna do the d1 finally, now I can start pressing the next move in the combo" and this fucker just cancels the crouching 1 to a standing 1 even though I already mashed d1 for an eternity before. I have to hold his hand and mash it til the attack connects, then I have like 2 miliseconds to input the next move in the combo or I'm fucked. It's unbelievably difficult holy shit. It feels like there's no button buffering and you have to do everything just frame. I can't even trigger consistently my V-skill after a crush counter move, feels like I have like 1 milisecond to press the two buttons at the exact same time or it won't register, and both hard punch and hard kick are on the triggers on the PS4 controller, they are even more difficult to press at the same time.

I'm not bashing the game at all, I just can't see how it's easier than Tekken, so far this is the hardest fighting game I played. I like it, I just don't know how am I going to do these combos in real online matches where there's lag too, so far I can't even do them offline at all.

Will Street Fighter V be remembered fondly?

Posted: 13 Aug 2018 08:33 AM PDT

When Street Fighter III released, it was met with hostility at the complete shift in characters and tone. It is now considered a favorite by many (including myself).

Street Fighter IV's shift from the classic 2D sprites to (somewhat odd-looking) 3D character models had a similarly alienating effect on the fanbase at first blush. This is the game a lot of current pros cut their teeth on and is subsequently their favorite.

Do you think Street Fighter V could have a similar arc? Of course, the input lag is universally hated, and the 3 frame links aren't too popular among many of the fanbase, but I wonder if V will be remembered as a good entry to the series in future years.

What do you think?

Thoughts on Season 3's Character Models

Posted: 13 Aug 2018 07:19 AM PDT

I know there's been a lot of talk about season 3's controversial animations, but I've noticed something about the character models this season that I really like a lot. It's especially noticeable with Cody and Sagat, which is the fact that they're not as buff/bulky as the characters from the previous 2 seasons.

You can notice it a lot when you look at the difference in width between Cody's and Sagat's waists and their chest/shoulders. I really like the proportions on these characters. They remind me of SFIII's art style (Alex and Dudley's body-types especially).

I'd really love them to remodel Alex with similar proportions to more closely match his look in SFIII, but I get that that's never going to happen. Hopefully they at least keep this style for future DLC characters.
