Pokémon GO - DEAR NIANTIC - ideas and suggestions for the devs

DEAR NIANTIC - ideas and suggestions for the devs

Posted: 13 Aug 2018 11:36 AM PDT

Hey Niantic! You guys made a game we all have a lot of feelings about...and this is our spot to express those feelings and make some statements about ways we think the game could be even better for us - and by extension, you!

If you want to complain about the game in a less constructive way please do so in the Salty Sunday - Rage Rants and complaints thread.

Here you will find ideas and suggestions - a mix of the positive posts and constructive criticism that reddit's Pokemon Go community have compiled and discussed and up/downvoted by importance and validity for us all. If there's one post on /r/pokemongo you guys should be paying attention to, it's this one, so please do.

Hey /r/PokemonGo Trainers! This recurring monthly post is for you guys. Sort posts by "top" to see what has been voted most important so far, but consider sorting by "new" as well to weigh in on the most recent ideas!

Please pay attention to the /r/PokemonGo rules for commenting behavior and civility, and use the report button when necessary to alert the mods to any post or thread that needs a review!

Berry trees could add a cool passive element to the game.

Posted: 13 Aug 2018 11:25 AM PDT

I always thought the game could benefit from some passive gameplay. Logging in to water and collect berries would give you another reason to open the app every day. What do you think?

Complaining about shinies not being rarer is like complaining that you're not poorer when you find $20 on the ground because its less meaningful to you than it otherwise would be.

Posted: 13 Aug 2018 12:12 PM PDT

Sorry I've just seen a lot of complaining lately about, of all things, that shinies on community day are too common. I've even seen people actually happy that Houndour and Snubbull weren't boosted at all so that their shinies would be nearly impossible to find and it just drives me insane. I mean the Houndour/Snubbull "event", if you want to call it that, is clearly a flop that isn't driving player participation at all so it's obvious that shinies at least need to be accompanied by a boosted spawn rate of the Pokemon in question, even if the shiny rate remains a mere 1 in 450 right?

And yet there are people who disagree. It baffles me. It's like I said, the equivalent of finding money on the ground and complaining you can't appreciate it more because you already have so much of it.

What does anyone get out of making it harder for other people to find things? Does anyone have a reason that isn't toxic or motivated by needing to feel some form of superiority over other players? Do you actually enjoy a lottery more if the odds are stacked against you? I just don't get it.

First, I walked 500 miles. Then, I walked 500 more.

Just to be the man who walked a single 'mon 1,000 miles in Pokemon go.

Da-dah-lat-lah! Da-dah-lat-lah! Dundalah alahalah dadahlala!

For reference, I've been walking that Chansey since the buddy feature came out.

Do Not Play Pokémon GO While Driving

Posted: 13 Aug 2018 07:37 AM PDT

Seriously, people. It's the first message we all see upon opening the game.

I see this way too often around me. Put the phone down and drive the car, you're going to hurt someone if you haven't already. If you really need to play as much as possible and that includes driving, just pull off somewhere. You're giving responsible players a bad rap.

Seeing older people playing Pokemon Go makes me unbelievably happy

Posted: 12 Aug 2018 11:11 PM PDT

Today for the second part of Eevee CD I was hanging around in the shade grinding Eevees with my friend and some people we met when an older woman, say about 50, came to chat us up.

We've seen her before, she and her husband sell pins and provide free snacks and waters for everyone they can the past few CD I've gone to this park.

Anyway, she was curious how many shinies we'd gotten so far. After we shared our counts she sighed a bit, "I still haven't found ONE!"

We encouraged her to keep at it, because there was still 2 and a half hours left. She cheered right back up, then went about asking others around us.

A few minutes later we start taking down a Makuhita raid for XP and from beside us we hear, "OH! OHHH I DID IT! I FOUND ONE! MY FIRST SHINY EEVEE! MY FIRST SHINY EVER!!!"

We cheered, she did an excited little dance while exclaiming, "oh I have to go show my husband I'm gonna keep it on the screen! My FIRST SHINY!"

She then booked it to her husband in high heels, practically bouncing with joy.

Honestly, I've seen older people playing before and it ALWAYS gets me but that was the cutest thing ever. Adults didn't give half a rats ass about Pokemon when I was little, now? They're freaking lvl 40 helping their grandsons catch Lugia, or playing with a phone and a tablet to find a good shiny legendary for their kid, or being like this lady just super excited to finally get a shiny.

Say what you will about the garbage mechanics and the fact that it's a RNG but the impact it's had is incredible.

I never thought it would appeal to so many and especially not the people who once would call it "Poke-ee-MANS" or straight up ignore me as a kid. It makes the game that much more enjoyable seeing them learn and play and interact with everyone else.

Edit: I'm 22 and my parents are 50-54. I call them old as a joke but me saying 50+ is "older" is just a relative term. Realistically old is more like 70. I'm used to anyone older than 45 being unfamiliar with technology, so I think of that as "older" Not a negative thing though!

Insane find during the community day

Posted: 13 Aug 2018 01:22 PM PDT

I was out and about during the last CD looking for some shiny Eevees. When something caught my attention a little black silhouette on the near by list. I clicked on it and my jaw just dropped. So I dropped everything and rushed to find this little guy: https://m.imgur.com/gallery/SZ0il4K I have never thought that I will ever encounter this Pokémon in the wild.

So I think this is gone my first and last time when I find one of those bastards. Lol

Artwork done in honor of CD.

Did some artwork in honor of CD that I wanted to share. Just my take on the poke and many of its forms. Their BG represents their shiny colors.

Pokemon Go weather is like 90% partly Cloudy

Posted: 13 Aug 2018 12:18 PM PDT

Hey ho iam living in Germany and we have mixed weather all the time but in Pokemon Go its always partly Cloudy.

Even when i check my weather forecast at my phone it tells me the right weather.

A few days ago it was really windy outside but well it was Cloudy again in Go.

So yeah the only boost we mostly get is .... normal.

Donno how often Niantic updates the weather but its kinda sad.

Have a chance for Pokémon to hold items when caught

Posted: 13 Aug 2018 09:36 AM PDT

It'd be cool if they could hold something like potions, balls, berries, sometimes even evolution items or rare candy. This would add an incentive for catching sentrets and other spam, and an item holding feature would smooth the addition for Gen 4 of Pokemon evolving by trading with an item. tldr: Pokemon should have a chance to give items, would help with gen 4

Dragon-Quest: 600 IQ Strategy to "farm" Dratinis

Posted: 13 Aug 2018 12:51 PM PDT

As you know, there is a field research to catch a Dragon-type pokemon, with a dratini as a reward. However catching a dragon-type is really challenging because they are the rarest type and their spawn rate is super low.

So here's a simple strategy to do this quest fast:

  1. Find this quest

  2. Somehow manage to complete it (Edit: Actually doing an alolan Exeggutor raid is great)

  3. DON'T take the reward

  4. Find another "catch a Dragon-type" quest

  5. Take the reward from the previous quest, go back to step 3.

I hope this will be helpful.

I would like the ability to choose one Pokémon from my Pokédex, for which I already have an entry, for me to receive a notification for when they show up on nearby.

Small Updates I'd Love To See In Pokémon GO :)

Posted: 13 Aug 2018 07:55 PM PDT

This is a list of some things I'd personally love to see come to Pokémon GO one day...

  • A More Advanced Character Customization. I would love to change my character's eye shape, hairstyle, body type, etc. It doesn't have to be super advanced, even 10 presets for each category would be a great improvement.
  • A Photo Studio. I want to be able to take picture's with Pokémon I've already caught. AR+ was a step ahead but I don't like the fact the Pokémon can run away on you and that it's only available to the most recent iPhone users.
  • Egg Storage Improvements. It would be great if we could increase our egg storage, even if it's only 3 more spaces and has to be purchased like other bag upgrades. Also, a friend of mine said they'd love to be able to delete eggs he didn't want.
  • Improved Friend Sorting. Like many others I want a search bar! I also want more category's to sort them with like "people you haven't sent gifts to today". And to maybe even let us mass send gifts?
  • Replace/Delete The Training Medal. This is a very small fix but for those players like me I want all of them to be gold. Back when training was around I barely battled/trained them up, so my medal is currently stuck at silver. So I'd like them to either delete it entirely or replace it with something like OG player.
  • Another Free Infinite Incubator. It would be a great reward to grant us another free infinite incubator at level 40 (since it is the max level) or if they ever increase the max reward it at level 50?

Lastly, I'm super interested in what others would like to see come in Pokémon GO, big or small, so be sure to comment your thoughts :)

Thank you for reading!

This is my very first original post on Reddit so I apologize in advance if I've done anything weird/wrong.

Calling all Collectors! GO Ranger now has custom checklist support :)

Posted: 13 Aug 2018 06:49 AM PDT

Hey everyone!

First off, thank you again for all the support for GO Ranger, it's been downloaded over 75,000 times since launching two weeks ago! ❤️

Download free or use the web version: https://GORanger.app

One of the most requested features over the past two weeks was "more Pokemon checklists!" I'm happy to announce that I've launched a LOT of checklist stuff! Here's what's available:

  • Create your own Pokemon Checklists
  • Choose from 10+ "Ranger Matt keeps these lists up to date" (like All Available, Event, Alolan, Male/Female, Regionals, etc)
  • Create your own completely custom Checklist where you manage what Pokemon are in it
  • Track all of your collections at once with the Master Checklist (click on a Pokemon to add it to any of your lists, easily see at a glance which lists your Pokemon are in)

I definitely plan on expanding this feature even more, so let me know your feedback!

One of the things coming soon will be a cloud account/backup (this will require a "Pro" plan most likely since it will use my servers, but I don't know what that looks like yet, let me know your opinions!).

Again, thank you to everyone whose been spreading the word in their local community and passing along love and feedback!

Have a good one,

Ranger Matt

I caught this Eevee sleeping under a tree during the event this past weekend.

Posted: 13 Aug 2018 02:33 PM PDT

Eevee is my favorite Pokémon. I caught 6 shinnies on day one. But for day 2 I had only 1 hour of my time to devote to PoGo so I brought my Eevee, which I bought in Japan, for good luck. It worked, because I caught 3 more shinnies.

Looking for Lunatone while having PTSD

Posted: 13 Aug 2018 09:10 PM PDT

I'm a women who has ptsd. I am literally looking behind my back and around me at all times when I'm alone looking for Lunatone at night. Not. A. Single. Sighting. I can't keep searching this late at night. And with it being so rare I can't even ask for a trade, like what? I'm almost to the point I'll pay a spoofer to find one and trade me. And being 30, there's literally no other adult friend who are like "yeah, let's go late at night looking for a Pokémon".

Like my anxiety was through the roof tonight looking. My rapists still live in my town. And some nights I wake up kicking because I'm so scared and double check my locks and sleep with the lights on sometimes. I even fall asleep with the tv on because the voices make me feel I'm not alone. But I go to bed almost every night expecting to get attacked.

I just want one Luna and be done. I'm done traveling at night looking. Niantic, please increase the spawn rate so more people can catch it and trade. Pokémon go is relaxing and gets me out during the day but at night, it's a different story.

It's hard to explain unless you experience ptsd which I hope none of you do. It's debilitating at times and I hate myself for letting it.

Please be kind with comments.

I finally caught Mew after a months of hard work!

Posted: 13 Aug 2018 09:31 PM PDT

I'm a solo casual player and I've been looking forward to this day for a while! It's been one of the hardest and most fun challenges this game has ever given and I really hope they do more in the future!

Surprisingly the "Catch 10 ghost type Pokemon" was the hardest challenge, for me at least. Having to go out at night was kind of weird but once I found a good spot for them I had it pretty easy!

https://i.imgur.com/PgKtNsY.png Here's a photo of the little one! So happy!

[Story] The Philippines was experiencing a storm when Community Day came, this is how dedicated Filipinos are with PoGo.

Posted: 13 Aug 2018 08:00 AM PDT

Before the event had started, we prepared by bringing umbrellas, raincoats, buying those waterproof pouches for our phones (or just putting a phone inside a sandwich bag). When the event started, so did the heavy rainfall and the strong winds. There were lots of reports of flooded areas within Metro Manila but thankfully I played in a pretty safe place. Even with those problems, that did not stop us from hunting High IV and Shiny Eevees for Community Day. I've heard that a lot of people were having a hard time finding Shiny Eevees but I think I'm just lucky that I caught 10 shines on Day 1 but only just 2 on Day 2. I made a video about this whole ordeal if you want to see some Eevee Hunting with Heavy Rain+Strong Winds action.

tl;dr Heavy Rainfall and Strong Winds aint nothing for us Filipino Trainers.

A glitch turned my pokemon into Neon Day-Glo versions

Posted: 13 Aug 2018 02:10 PM PDT

During community day Pokemon GO bugged out and most pokemon appeared with a weird neon look with no shading.

I couldn't spend too much time taking screenshots of every pokemon since I was trying to catch Eevees, but here's some shots I did take:
