Learn Dota 2 - What roles do the following characters hold?

What roles do the following characters hold?

Posted: 14 Aug 2018 07:28 PM PDT

I'm looking to get into Dota2 a bit more, I used to play Dota1 a ton so I know what characters I liked. Can people tell me what lane, role and what the characters job is nowadays? Also if people could tell me how difficult the character is to learn

Abbadon(Lord of Avernus), Kunkka, Tuskarr, Rooftrellan, Lifestealer, Dark Seer.

If anybody here mains any of the characters above, let me know!

Ultimate Anti-Carry

Posted: 14 Aug 2018 10:10 AM PDT

I've been enjoying playing offlane Axe. I just love the idea of fuck-with-the-carry. Any other heroes you guys would recommend? And if you could include how to play them, and the carries they fuck with. Sorry for the language.

Mid mechanics : What to do when you push the wave, but enemy mid just drags it with them to the rune?

Posted: 14 Aug 2018 07:02 PM PDT

It's happened to me quite a few times where they'll have vision of the rune, and when I push the wave, they just drag the creepwave with themselves towards the rune as soon as it aggros on them. So basically they end up getting the rune and lose no CS (although it does open up some room for me to harass them under tower) .. whats the counterplay here? And why don't more people do this? Isn't this a complete counter to the "push wave secure rune" mindset?

I'm scared to play in Low Priority

Posted: 14 Aug 2018 10:18 AM PDT

To clarify, this isn't a post to complain about the punishment.

I recently got into low prio when my power went out in a storm. Since then, I've completly stopped playing Dota, mostly cause I'm super scared about playing this. I've been reading horror stories about it, saying like "Been stuck in Low Prio forever" and I dont wanna be stuck.

Is it that bad?

Can Battle Fury cleave still stack with itself?

Posted: 14 Aug 2018 06:58 PM PDT

Does Battle Fury still stack additively? I'm a low mmr player ( I play with another low mmr player, he's my best friend, our party winrate is 57% which i believe to be a good one and i think we can party ) so i usually have fun and try some weird janky builds. I was going for a carry tusk, but learnt that Battle Fury cleave actually stacked for itself for a while and a viable item build for Physical Ember Spirit. Is this still the case?

Current Meta Laning Strategies 7.19

Posted: 14 Aug 2018 04:10 PM PDT

Preface:

So, I had taken a leave of absence from DotA for a little under half a year before recently having some time to come back and play. I'd been told that denies had a much larger impact on the game and having observed the predominant lane dynamic go from tri-lanes to dual lanes, it feels like mid-lane has a much bigger impact again. I also was able to feel the significance of denies as when I was losing significantly on CS I was very suddenly 1-2 levels behind the opposing mid.

Q1:

I was wondering what the consensus is on specific heroes that the community at large feels are not very viable mid due to the control of CS. I have been feeling that either my play is poor or that lower damage heroes like Sniper & Shadow Fiend can be very easily crushed early-on and put behind if they don't manage the CS game correctly.

Q2:

Unsure if this is always the case, as I don't have a large sample size, but I've noticed a lot of mid match-ups having players play much less greedy and buy more stat items early to secure CS. Is this necessary or just recommended for certain match-ups?

Q3:

What general alterations to gameplay are necessary to adapt to this new meta that emphasizes CS so much?

Midlane Broodmother Web Management

Posted: 14 Aug 2018 04:06 PM PDT

I'm really confused about brood's web management during midgame/lategame (if it gets to that point). How do you guys make sure you don't run out of webs if you help your team push top/bot for example? Or do you?

In depth analysis to an Ancient V Drow Ranger game

Posted: 14 Aug 2018 10:24 AM PDT

Hey guys, Stormyq here!

Recently, I've been given the offer to analyze an ancient V Drow Ranger game. Instead of simply analyzing the game, I actually talked more about Drow in the meta (Shes not really that great right now but shes not dead as people might think), when to pick her and how to itemize her in different scenarios.

Link here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1fjpjabDoiJzISSfao_BycH6rlr_Li4bIVKNIvBt6PoY/edit?usp=sharing

The review is 3.7k words long, in fact one of the works that I am pretty proud of, so I figured I wanted to share it with you guys. While I am by no means a Drow expert, I did my own research regarding this hero, how pros play her (Only skemberlu reliably plays this hero nowadays) and how mid-high immortal players (My range basically) play her, hence I am pretty confident in my analysis.

I welcome any feedback, suggestions or the likes. If you have a review request, do PM me / email me at stormyqwer@gmail.com.

Ability draft as a learning tool

Posted: 14 Aug 2018 07:15 AM PDT

Bit of a weird one and obviously ability draft isn't real dota but it allows you to see how certain abilities are powerful in isolation or combination with other abilities you normally wouldn't see them paired with. Also helps to learn heroes stat gains and talent trees as they're much more important in that mode.

Does anyone have any ultra niche hero combos/counters or just an appreciation of certain hero abilities that they've picked up? not necessarily through AD

Couple of things I've learned:

Witch doctors maledict works through winter wyverns ult, it wont apply damage during but when winters curse is over it'll apply damage with the HP drop calculated.

Weaver without shukuchi is the worst hero in the game.

Wraith kings stun is perhaps the best single target stun in the game and with a bigger mana pool it will usually win a lane.

Anchor smash is an excellent and cheap farming ability.

This one' a bit AD specific/obvious but heroes that can wave clear fast and early are exceptionally powerful. Supremely fast farm wins games.

Signups for Redditors Dota 2 League Season 15 are now open!

Posted: 14 Aug 2018 05:32 PM PDT

RD2L is kicking off its 15th Season! This season runs from the start of September until the middle of December, signups end on September 3rd.

What is RD2L?

The Redditors' Dota 2 League (RD2L) is a casual and competitive league for individual players (not teams) of all skill levels. It's a great way to experience organized and competitive Dota 2 without the heavy time commitments and scheduling uncertainty involved in forming a team for a typical league.

You can either sign up as a captain or a player. All players are placed in a draft pool from which captains will pick to form teams. You'll likely be placed with a team of people you haven't met before, and will have the chance to make new friends as you practice and play together over our 8 week season. Captains will be responsible for drafting their teams from the pool of players. After teams are drafted, they will play an 8 week group stage with one captains mode bo2 each week, ending in a playoff for the top teams of each division. (Some divisions may have slightly shorter seasons)

Why Play RD2L?

  • All skill levels welcome! While the average MMR in RD2L is high 3k - low 4k, we have players from 1k - 6k in the league. More experienced players can improve their team work, communication, and leadership skills while helping the lower MMR players improve their game skills.
  • Balanced matches. By drafting teams (similar to fantasy football), teams tend to be generally even in overall player skill. Also, regular season matchmaking pits teams with similar records against each other each week to avoid unbalanced matchups.
  • A great way to build a stack. Through inhouses and regular season matches, build a group of friends to stack and queue with. Teams made up of RD2L players regularly play in Battle Cups, AD2L, Echo League, and Valve Event Qualifiers.
  • Develop your captaining and leadership skills. Whether you captain this season or are mentored by one, RD2L is a great place to improve at CM. Drafting, strategy, and team play are all much more important than your average ranked pub game.
  • Make new friends We have hundreds of players each season, which means that you'll have a chance to meet people looking to have fun in a competitive setting like you. If you're looking to meet more people to play Dota with this is a great league to get started in.
  • No Scheduling hassles In our league you sign up for a division that plays its games on the same night every week, you'll know what night you need to play and won't be scrambling to coordinate a match with your opponents.

Signing up:

Captain and Player Sign-Ups and Information: For full information on how to sign up and rule changes from our previous season, see this post on our subreddit.

First time Signup FAQ: A guide made by one of our community members to help you with the signup process and understanding what comes after you signup.

Captains get to draft players and run their team. If you wish to captain and this is your first season, you must have a legend or above medal and you must be approved by an admin vouch.

Players sign up to be drafted into a team. To sign up as a player you must have played at least 500 games and have 250 wins. Your steam profile / dota stats must also be public to successfully sign up, and you are expected to keep it public for the duration of the season. There is no minimum MMR for players.

Sign-ups work on a first come first serve basis. The number of players we can support each season is limited by the number of captains that sign up, so being a captain is the best way to ensure you get a spot. (However, we typically ask for volunteers from returning players and previous captains if more are needed after sign-ups end, so don't feel pressure to sign-up as a captain.) If as a player you go undrafted, you can still be added to a team that needs you during the season as a Free Agent.

Season 15 Schedule - This subreddit post has our full schedule for the season.

If you're having signup issues, you can send us a modmail on our subreddit, PM me here on reddit, or come to our discord (https://discord.gg/SCXaYj) and ask for assistance there.

Divisions:

When you sign up you will choose a division for a day/time where you'll be regularly available. For the entire regular season, your matches will start at the same time on the same night of the week! For example, the EST-SUN division plays every Sunday on US East Servers at 9 PM EST.

Divisions list:

Match Time Server Days
20:30 CEST EU West Wednesday
19:30 CEST EU West Sunday
9 PM EST US East Sunday
9 PM EST US East Monday
9 PM EST US East Wednesday**
7 PM PST US West Sunday
7 PM PST US West Friday**

For European players, you may sign up for both CST-Wednesday and CST-Sunday if you wish. For NA players, you can only sign up for one of PST-Sunday, EST-Sunday, or EST-Monday (these divisions have interdivisional playoffs at the end, so signing up for more than one is not an option). NA players may also sign up for EST-Wednesday and PST-Friday in addition to one of those three divisions though. EST Wednesday has its own separate playoffs and allows players who wish for a serious RD2L experience to play in both it and another NA division at the same time. PST-Friday is a for fun division meant to allow players to relax and just play some peaceful dota once a week. More information on PST-Friday can be found on our subreddit.

If you have any questions you can always send me a PM via reddit or find me in Discord and PM me there. Our discord is full of active and friendly community members that can help with any confusion. Thanks, we hope you enjoy the season.

Early item stats as Invoker?

Posted: 14 Aug 2018 01:25 PM PDT

As starting items I buy tangos and two mantle of intelligence instead of talisman since it gives much needed intelligence for 200 less gold. Assuming my team gets both runes at start of the game I can afford blades of attack which gives 9 damage after only few last hits. Going for another blades of attack it gives me 18 damage in first 5 minutes combined with 2 points in exort and 2 mantles I can hit as truck, harass and deny anyone on the lane, it also upgrades into phase boots. In around 7 minutes I can rotate and two shot supports with alactricity I assume this is good strategy but why no one goes for it?? The only downside I can think of is that mantles take more slot than talisman but that is not problem early game

What support heroes are good first picks in solo ranked queue?

Posted: 13 Aug 2018 11:00 PM PDT

As a pos 4/5 support player, I always find myself picking first to prevent my carries from getting countered. If I pick first, the enemy team will be countering my hero now. What heroes do I pick first and why?

What went wrong this game?

Posted: 14 Aug 2018 06:27 AM PDT

https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/4059677311, I was the SF.

The enemy had a 4 core lineup, which I haven't seen in a while. I destroyed Storm in mid and told my team to push fast or they would farm and we would lose. But no matter how many times I begged, my team didn't want to group up and push, and the few times they did, we got destroyed in teamfights despite them being 4 cores in an early game fight.

Low win % with traditional mid heros

Posted: 14 Aug 2018 12:00 PM PDT

I am curious as to why my win percentages are very low (~44%) with traditional mid heros: Tinker, Storm, Qop, OD, SF, TA?

Is there some trend or concept that I am completely missing that these heros have in common?

Shadow Shaman skill build?

Posted: 14 Aug 2018 09:18 AM PDT

I've been playing a lot of shadow shaman lately. I'm currently Legend 3. I've been putting all skill points into shackles and hex until maxed before getting ether shock. I do this because it allows me to disable people for so long that most of the time gives the carry long enough to get the kill. However, I have noticed that this does make me have next to no pushing power besides my wards and if a wave is not pushed it just takes me too long to reach the tower and drop my wards. At this point I think 'maybe I should have gone ether shock first instead'.

Is this build wrong? When is one path better than the other? Maybe I should skill them all at the same time instead of prioritizing disables?

One of the worst feelings

Posted: 14 Aug 2018 07:18 AM PDT

During the past week or so I've kept a 50% winrate and lost 5 MMR. The issue is, unlike most people, I feel like I win half of my games because the enemy team is just awful half the time.

Part of it, I feel, is because I'm basically at an MMR that represents my skill at the moment (3.3k). I mean, I feel confident I could win another 200, but I'm definitely not reaching 4k this week (unless I'm spamming a couple of heroes).

Another part, I think, is that this isn't the right patch for me. While I didn't feel like the meta had much impact when I was 2k, now it feels like if one team follows the meta and the other ignores it, then the meta team will win 80% of the time. (Mostly talking about having 2-1-2 lanes and not roaming early.) I doubled my MMR mostly by playing offlane before the 2-1-2 situation. Picking offlane now gives me a 50% chance of having a trilane/roamer on my team, so I don't feel as confident playing it. (Before, I was about certain I would at least do better than the enemy offlaner, but if I'm in a 2v1 top while there's a 2v3 bot, the enemy team is constantly gaining the lead.)

And the last part is a compilation of the two. In that, until now, I felt like I was above my skill bracket. So even if I lost a game, I was certain I'd win two or more to make up for it. After all, the only thing you need to do to gain MMR is keep a 50.1% winrate or above. Now, every loss feels like it might be a long-term MMR loss. I've been lucid enough to avoid lose streaks (don't queue when you feel like you're about to lose the next one anyway, and you convince yourself that you don't care).

So on one hand I need to work on my skill, on the other I need to work on my confidence. And I feel like TI might help me with this, either by showing me a strategy that connects with me, or by shifting the meta enough that I might find my place in this patch.

Anyway, I felt like sharing to know if any of you feel the same way or have gone through the same phase. Try to get some perspective on this.
