| I’m the 32 year old playing through Halo for the first time - update #1 Posted: 07 Aug 2018 02:25 PM PDT Finished 3 last night. 2 and 3 are SO GOOD. HALO 2 Anniversary is beautiful, they did an awesome job with that. 3 probably has the best story, but I missed Cortana. I may have a crush on her, it's becoming a problem. Anyway, probably going to do ODST next, then Reach, 4, 5. (Release order) When should I watch the Forward Unto Dawn series on Netflix? So stoked to be part of this series now!! Better late than never. [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 07 Aug 2018 11:23 PM PDT Halos 1-3 multiplayer wise don't hold up very well in my personal opinion. The gameplay is far too floaty and in all 3 you're punished for not using a particular gun (i.e. magnum in halo ce, br in halo 2.) I've loved theme Halo series since the very beginning but never got into the multiplayer scene until halo reach which is still my personal favorite. Maybe there's something I'm missing, but I can't help but feel these games should receive some retuning in the upcoming mcc updates. [link] [comments] | ||
| I'm playing Halo 2 for the first time. Here are my thoughts on Levels 8-10. Posted: 07 Aug 2018 12:11 PM PDT Previous Entries: Halo: 1-3 - 4-5 - 6-10 - Final Thoughts What a campaign, huh folks? 8. Sacred Icon Let's go get that Index! We begin in a quiet place, with silence, sparks, and wind. A long room of gray stone and metal. A few enemies, but they aren't attacking me, so I simply pass by them. I'm an Arbiter on a mission, after all. I open an access shaft and slide down, landing softly and cloaked. This room, the Sentinels do open fire. I guess they know I'm here. I reach a large, floating, shielded robot. I cloak, circle him from underneath, pop out, and open fire, but... it doesn't move? That might have been a glitch, I'm not sure. But it explodes like the rest. Silence. I'm not sure what to do, so I begin chucking grenades at the metal protrusions on the walls, since they're showing as red targets on my reticule. Nothing. Oh, you just have to hold X on the columns in the center. The floor creaks and groans away. It's an elevator, entering a snowy chasm, with blue lights creating long, bright streaks. The Flood pop up with Sentinels, and a crowded firefight begins on this little platform, with me in the middle of it. Uh oh, these Flood have human weapons! I guess the gang's all here, now. I can't do much against all these SMGs hosing everything down in lead, so I sneak through, occasionally blasting one or two in my way, occasionally getting lost. Thankfully, they're more concerned with killing each other. The Library, this is not. I push through several long, smoky bridges connecting hangars. I hear Marine radio chatter as I cross, and they don't seem to be faring much better, either. I was kind of hoping Master Chief would have taught a little seminar on Flood Technique 101 to the Corps. Pass out pamphlets, or something? Eventually, I reach a hangar with an open wall, revealing a burnt orange sky, with long, trailing clouds covering a huge, cylindrical tower, with a long beam of light. Nice stuff, Bungie. I may be a murderous warrior-chief from a religious alien caste system, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy a nice view. Tunnels, tunnels, tunnels, a snowy canyon with gnarled rocks. Several Elites finally drop in, and I swap some rocket launchers into their hands, because I've got a sneaking suspicion that an FPS' generosity is never unpunished. I'm right. Another big battle sequence, another case of turrets being on the other side of the canyon. However, the energy shields make a big difference - the Elites tend to do far better as allies than the Marines. It's always a pleasure to have plasma fired with me, instead of at me. 9. Quarantine Zone I drive a Spectre with two Elites, and we zip off as a flurry of missiles explodes over our heads in a particularly Jost Vacano moment. That old Halo guitar kicks in! It's like when the theme song to an anime starts playing, you know it's gonna be good. All this debris and destruction would take a non-hovering vehicle ages to cross. We pass on through to some rust-orange stone and metal structures. They might be the remains of buildings. Hard to tell. There's some tube lights, and large glass panes that block our shots. Add a few Scorpions and the plasma really starts flying, but we smash past the opposition, and glide right into a cave of glittering red crystals. The Halo rings really have some incredible worlds tucked away in them. In fact, there's so much fancy graphical pizzazz, my 360 starts to chug. I get tangled up in a firefight and... where was I going? I get lost again, and ditch my ride. At one point, I lunge towards a foe with the Energy Sword, and do a crazy lunge that sends me flying up in the air. Ha. I commandeer a Scorpion. Come to think of it, why are Covenant vehicles attacking me? Are these Flood that are controlling Covenant, or one of the heretical bunches? We pick off the remaining Flood, and trek to an open-ceiling hall on foot. A cutscene, an Index, and a betrayal by Tartarus! I'd hate the Prophets, if they weren't so darned fascinating. 10. Gravemind This cutscene was... very, very unexpected. Gravemind is an interesting concept - I think the lazy way of making this character would be some take on "I shall now eat you blaaaargh" and the Chief has to fight a boss battle. But by having Gravemind state the truth on Halo spins it - you're initially repulsed by its appearance, but its telling the truth, and you're somewhat wary of its intentions, its opinions... it's interesting stuff. I'm very surprised. And besides, our two protagonists meet! "Boo." The Chief has a sense of humor. When the Brutes get on all fours and start charging around, they kind of look like Chewbacca, don't they? At least, they do on this old CRT. They take shots like champs, too. I grab a Brute Plasma Rifle. It hits hard, but it overheats so easily. It's also a stylish red. Cortana leaves my helmet to do her thing, and I head on ahead. I'm tearing through the Brutes, and one with a Brute Shot and a flag even steps off the ledge while fighting me! My ego insists he intentionally jumped off out of fear. Yep. "It's fine, really. Just, step in." Cortana, always with the sass. The hallways and grav lifts are surprisingly gentle. They glow with that familiar purple and silver Covenant color scheme. Everything's dying really fast, I grab a Brute Shot and don't fire it yet. A very long grav lift is broken up by the Prophet of Truth's announcement of the "failure of the Elites." That seems to have ticked them off, and they're fighting with the Brutes again. We pop out across a gleaming cliff, extending out to a tower. The Elites and Drones duke it out, and I'm happy to sit and watch. As much as I like them, it's a bit cathartic to see the Covenant start to fray, especially since they've been kicking the Marines' ass for two whole games. Finally, a large circular room. "You might want to consider skipping this one out." Erm... is that Breaking Benjamin? It is. I laugh a bit. I can't help but feel it's a bit kitsch, in this day and age, but I can't deny it's also very, very charming. I like it, even if this room takes me several tries. And that's a magnificent note to end this writeup on. I had a blast these last few levels. As ever, thank you for reading. [link] [comments] | ||
