Since Wraith King's skeletons taunt along with him, can Enigma's Eidelons taunt along with Enigma?

Pls make the Eidelons dance along with Enigma when he taunts, I need it.

Edit: since a lot of people don't seem to have seen WK and his skeletons dancing, here is a clip. You can listen to the sound that plays just underneath the video, but sound warning.

Congratulations to the 4th direct invitee to TI 8!

Posted: 19 May 2018 03:02 AM PDT

After a wonky group phase, PSG.LGD finally found their form and are playing an almost flawless lower bracket run. With their win over NewBee they are guaranteed at least a 3rd place at MDL Changsha, worth enough points to secure them a TOP 8 finish in this years Dota Pro Circuit!

Congratulations to:

  • "Ame" Wang Chunyu
  • "Somnus丶M" Lu Yao
  • "Chalice" Yang Shenyi
  • "fy" Xu Linsen
  • "xNova" Yap Jian Wei

PSG.LGD is the first non-EU/CIS team to secure a spot at TI 8. However, the top contenders for the remaining four seats are all China/SEA teams. Good luck to all of them in the upcoming visa interviews!

No matter how MDL Changsha will conclude, this is the only possible guaranteed invite to TI 8 this weekend. VG winning MDL Changsha would put them around ~180 pts short of a secured invite.

Mineski, VG and probably Newbee as well are very very likely to secure themselfs a direct invite even without scoring any additional points, as most of the teams playing in the concluding tournaments in this year DPC have either already secured their invite or a not eligible to receive one due to roster changes.

The next tournament, ESL One Birmingham, could be the saving grace for VG, Mineski, Newbee and EG. It is also the last chance for Fnatic and Optic to avoid the upcoming slaughter in the NA and SEA regional qualifiers.

Things I Learnt Pos 5 Supporting from Ancient to Divine - the Role of Someone who Never Tilts

Posted: 19 May 2018 04:47 AM PDT

Dotabuff. Giant wall of text incoming.

This post is a reflection of what I have learnt in the journey climbing from Ancient 0 to Divine 0 in the SEA server. What I have learnt may not apply to all brackets, but it is what I have utilised in order to win games. It is also a chance for me to brag about my new shiny medal.

Some background: Previous season I was about 4k MMR. Calibrated Ancient 0 when medals came out. For my entire Dota career I have played support for 85% of all my games. Almost all my non-support games are on Party queue. Before medals came out, I climbed from 3k mmr to about 3.7k ish spamming core in the form of Zeus and Centaur, but other than that in my solo queue games I exclusively 1st pick support. In the run for Ancient 2 to Divine 0 specifically, I first picked Warlock and Disruptor.

1. Understanding what "Support" means.

We look to the Cambridge dictionary. As a verb, Support means to "Encourage", "Help", "Provide", "Prove", "Stop from Falling". As a noun, Support means to "Help", "Provide Money", "Proof", "Encouragement", "Holding things up". All of the above definitions are what you want to do as a Support.

When playing support, you must understand that you not playing Dota. You are helping someone else to play Dota. NONE of the dictionary definitions indicate that someone who Supports is someone who plays a central role. You are the unseen background.

This means that you buy 2 wards and 1 sentry and 1 set of tango to pool at the start of the game. You ensure that vision is up BEFORE your teammates ask for it. If your teammates have to ask you for anything, you have already fucked up 5 minutes before because you didn't provide it when he/she needed it. Your role as a support is like a waiter at a restaurant. You need to have in your mind all their needs and requirements and deliver their orders to them. A good waiter will deliver those orders as the customers ask for them, but an excellent one has already attended to them before they even asked.

This means that sometimes you have to build Pipe because no one else can or wants to. Sometimes you buy tome for your mid or carry and not yourself because that is more essential to winning the game. Play so that your teammates can succeed.

You play the game expecting to leave Victorious, but nothing in the end game score indicates how well you did as a support except the "Victory" word. Don't expect to have anything beyond Brown Boots and wards and sentries in the end game inventory. Everything else beyond that is a luxury item that you only got because your teammates succeeded in some way (hopefully because of your efforts) to allow you to get them.

2. Supporting is by far the most inefficient way to climb MMR if you know what you're doing and can execute it mechanically.

Anyone telling you that supporting is good for climbing MMR is lying. There are 2 major portions to how to climb MMR. One is knowing what to do, and the second is executing it mechanically. If you are able to do both, a core role is by far the easiest to climb MMR solely because a lot of the team's resources is placed on you.

As a support, you are going to watch cores throw games by making bad decisions or making wrong item choices. That is something that cannot be helped and happens even in professional games. In a game where everybody knows what they are doing the difference between a team with good supports and a team with bad supports is extremely clear. But at the end of the day, the role that is able to utitlise the resources into actually ending the game is a core role.

B..But there are smurfs who play support and win a whole lot!

Yes, there are. I have watched these players as well. I'm not disputing the fact that it is possible. I am saying it is inefficient. A 6k player playing in 4k as a support is going to win 80-90% of the games as a support, but as a core it is more likely to be 90 to 95%, even 99%. Games are also going to be shorter as a core simply because you are going to stomp them by killing them over and over. If you are not convinced, the fact that the majority of the leaderboards are core players should say something.

3. To effectively Support, you must understand what your teammates want

Understanding what your teammates want comes in two stages. The first one is learning all roles in the game and the theory of how they play. You can learn how to support a carry player better by watching and playing carry because you will better learn what a carry player actually wants in specific scenarios. Same goes for any other roles. And by specific, I mean SPECIFIC. You need to know, for example, a QoP at level 1 is any stronger compared to the enemy mid, and whether that changes when she reaches level 2. Is her starting item going to change that? Are you expecting a heavy use of courier from QoP because of matchup issues? Does the QoP want a gank at level 1, 2 or 3? Or none at all? Do this for all 3 lanes. Once you start considering all these little scenarios, you can arrange them into your head like a timetable of when and how to help your cores. If you are feeling stressed about this, don't. Because even pro players understand this by talking to other pro or high mmr players. This is why Dota is a team game.

What about the second stage?

There is usually a "most correct" way to play Dota in individual games and their given specific scenarios. But don't kid yourself that you know what that is. Even Pros can only at most make an educated guess, and they make mistakes all the time. They just make less of these mistakes compared to us. Dota is too complicated to have a correct answer. If even pros make mistakes, what hope does your 3k or 4k teammates have?

You need to look at their item and skill build and judge how to support him/her from there. An Anti-mage starting with a null talisman and tangoes, while queuing up the Dagon and Ethereal Blade is unconventional, but there are strengths to this build that you can support and allow him to play the game. It is certainly not the "correct" build most of the time that works for Anti-Mage's strengths as a hero, but if you support the Anti-Mage properly the build can work more effectively. Dagon and Ethereal Blade still provide stats to Anti-Mage, and fundamentally changes the way he is played from a split pusher to a slippery hero with Burst damage. Sometimes all these "mistakes" from your cores are drastic enough to affect the game, but most the mistakes your cores make are not by themselves enough to lose the game.

And I reiterate my 1st point: Why you do all these is because your role as a support is to help your teammates play their role. By understanding their roles, you can more effectively weigh you should help them in specific scenarios.

4. Don't overcommunicate

Credits to HotFlatDietPepsi for reminding me to add this:

I'd like to that supports should also playcall. Nothing too crazy but just saying things like "play around rosh" or "wait for our carrys bkb" can drastically change games.

Despite what Putang ina bobo, Cyka Blyat, cao ni ma you might experience, people like having fun and making friends in Dota. I'm not saying that you should look into every game and expect to make friends. I'm saying you want to ask your cores what they want and try to mediate arguments. Ask whether your offlaner wants a support for the starting levels. Ask your carry if he wants you around or if pulling is bad. If people start arguing about roles in the game (happens less often if you're already playing support), offer a solution. If people start flaming your carry for feeding, tell them its difficult to not feed and try to make the carry feed less.

But don't type anything more than 2 lines. Anything more is going to start an argument or a conversation. I have tried nice ways and logical ways to tell people to do things. Don't do that. People don't like to be told what to do. These types of conversations happen in the drafting phase, strategy phase or post game. Not in game. If your offlaner doesn't reply to your question there is nothing you can do except do what you think is best. If you have 2 Mids all you can do is to ensure that 2 Mids work as a strategy.

There was a certain game where I was supporting this Slark who was playing overly aggressive and kept feeding in lane (2v2 lane, but can't remember the exact matchup). I said "dude stop playing so aggressively" and that was the end of the conversation, with no reply from Slark in text or playstyle. Teammates flamed a little, but he kept feeding aggressively, so I had to adjust my play to allow him to do that. This included leaving the lane so he can get Level 6 faster, giving him salves, and subsequently later giving him a tome so he can get just an inch of power boost to Level 15 when every other core on the enemy team was higher level. And you know what? The Slark that was feeding started dominating the game, finding kill after kill and we started to comeback. Flames are not continuing. He even bought tomes and placed them on the ground and pinged them. It was a beautiful moment, achieved only through mostly pings. I would alter history to make a beautiful ending where 25 mmr was gained, but the fact remains that we almost won, and 2 bad teamfights later we ultimately lost. The lesson to be learnt here is that despite how bad your carry player might seem to be playing, there is a plan he/she is following, and only by supporting that can you have a better chance of winning the game.

5. Never Tilt

The last point is pretty simple. Just don't fucking tilt.

If you keep looking at things from a broad perspective and keep thinking about how to win, you won't tilt. You want to be focused on winning and doing everything you can in your capabilities as a single person to do that. Anything else you do that does not help you towards winning will take that away from you. Saying your carry did this thing wrong doesn't help. Saying the enemies had a smurf won't help. Saying "I SAID NOT TO GO" won't help.

But you know what will?

Saying "It's okay, if we manage to team wipe them 3 times we can win" helps. Saying "they used all ultimates to kill our Slark. The rest of us can try to fight" helps. To certain teammates, saying "nice" helps.

And even though I don't do it, saying "nice feed am" to the enemy Anti-mage also helps. As does "LUL zeus dying trying to farm golems" to the enemy Zeus feeding.

If you have read this to the end, I hope you find this useful, and kudos for bearing with the giant wall of text.

TDLR; Don't play support. It makes you write essays.

Chinese Memes: Sccc (Leng Feng), Dragon Knight (Junhao Xie aka. Super).

Posted: 19 May 2018 03:27 AM PDT

In today's MDL Newbee vs PSG.LGD Game 1 pause time, Maybe called Sccc "Feng Ge" (Big Brother Feng). However there is no "Feng" in Sccc's real name "Chun Song".

This is actually originated from political memes from the sgamer forum. A post called "Dragon knight farms kobolds with a single breathe fire" which metaphorically refers to that Jinping Xi (President Xi, DK) sacrifices Chinese people (kobolds, which are the weakest of neural creeps) in the name of country. (The actual thing is that a fire in Beijing causes Beijing evicted migrant workers.) The background is that Xi seeks dictatorship and in fact he is the most powerful leader in China since Mao. As Xi is aiming for permanent ruling, the infamous internet censorship in China is more than ever. In sgamer, people starts to use DK to refer Xi and then use Junhao Xie aka. Super who is known for his DK play (also a small hero pool) to refer to Xi. Super also has a nickname of baozi which is also a sarcasm for Xi. There is also a meme that "Icefrog is adding aghanim to DK to grant permanent dragon form" as a sarcasm for Xi's permanent ruling plan.

After this meme becomes famous to the whole Chinese Dota2 community, Sccc starts to struggle after winning ESL Genting. Leng Feng, who is the hero of the Chinese movie "Wolf Warrior". Xi's govern has given rise to nationalism. The "Wolf Warrior 2" is a nationalist and patriotic movie which achieves highest ever box office in China. As Sccc is a former soldier (a lot of firefighters are part of army in China) and also has a handsome looking. He is referred as Leng Feng (somewhat an ironical nickname given the nationalist figure of Leng Feng) in sgamer, thus later this nickname spread to the whole Chinese Dota 2 community.
