Could we get BR and StW separated on twitch? We can't get a real streaming community cause we're drowning in BR :-)

Powerlevel indicators in Global-chat

Posted: 28 Mar 2018 09:48 AM PDT

I don't know if this has been brought up yet, but I haven't found a discussion about it yet. I think this well help indicate the more advanced players in Fortnite in the global chat, and will help the inviting process for SSD's. I ended up inviting people with PL 14 while doing twine peaks SSD 5, which can be annoying for both sides.

[Day 2] Watch our for deceitful children, a public apology

Posted: 28 Mar 2018 12:31 PM PDT

I wanted to apologize to Epic Games for accusations I levied against them, I've deleted the offending posts.

While working through this and waiting for contact from Epic Games I discovered that emails were intentionally deleted in order to cover up a deceit from my child.

I recognize that I let my anger about the situation blind me to the situation and I wanted to apologize to Epic Games for this failure on my part.

I do see that other users have experienced a real issue, and I hope that Epic Games recognizes this as well.

While improved security on purchases would have prevented this as well, it is our failure as a parents to ensure we protected our finances from young children who don't recognize the damage they can cause.

I've asked Epic to remove any priority from my support request, and while I'm pursuing a refund in hopes I can get this money back, I recognize that it is my responsibility and Epic is not responsible for correcting my mistakes.

I want to thank the Community manager for reaching out to me and seeking to help me get my situation resolved, and I've asked them to let the support team know that priority can be removed from my request, as I'm sure other users have experienced problems which require more attention than mine.

Edit: On a Side note, I am happy that I personally no longer have a reason to be mad at Epic Games. I've always loved their company, even back when they were known as Potomac Computer Systems, I loved ZZT as a kid!

Let trap do their job

Posted: 28 Mar 2018 03:38 PM PDT

Ever see someone spend 20 minutes building a defense with tons of traps and kill funnels? Ever then see them just shoot everything and the traps dont even get used? The only things you should be shooting are the old ladies raining mortars on your base, smashers, lobers, and the flying guys. Ocasionally a mini boss or the floating guys that shield people. Other than that husks, and nornal zombies, ect dont need to be shot. Its simply a waste of resources all around. If your not going to let the traps do their job why build them at all. Might as well just build a pyramid, slap a base or heal at top, and shoot everything. (Maybe put scaffolding above pyramid for old ladies to shoot at. You could even just build a blooming onion and leave as enemies struggle to break down all the walls. You dont even need to fight anything in this game to defend something.

PRO TIPS for tunneling mobs :D

Posted: 28 Mar 2018 10:33 AM PDT

  1. the rule of 3 - never build more then - 2 tile- tunnel -2 tiles -tunnel - in any direction.

  2. hide your walls - only use wall parts where you have to (objective and tunnels) all other defense should be stairs or edit roof parts. why? smashers AI 90% of the time wont charge stairs and etc.. so for every wall, hide with some stairs from the smashers ;)

  3. dont stand on (or in) traps tunnels - why? propane husks will target you and destroy all off your traps in 2 hits, and beside.. let your traps do some work for you :P (best to stand on the objective and just kill the strands..)

  4. start your tunnel as far from the objective as you can, for more traps space. (and use your fire and gas traps at the start)

  5. CC traps are KING - they are cheap and delay the mobs the most, best cost efficient traps IMO. (hint- basements)

  6. LOOP them - with the right combination of map terrain and CC traps (launchers) and gas/fire traps near the mobs spawn you can LOOP the mobs until they will die from the traps afflictions without you even need to shoot a single bullet. (for masters only)

  7. if someone is destroying your traps builds or walls dont get angry, you are probably doing something wrong as far as the mobs AI goes.. so ask them why and learn from them :P

  8. use all types of materials for you base so you will not run out off any of them, stone for objective walls, metal for the stairs hiding them from smashers, wood for tunnels (not only).

  9. put small roofs on your traps roof so lobbers wont bombard from above. and floor launchers below your hiding stairs.

  10. have fun, be nice, talk in chat and dont scam people. and your on your way to be a PRO PVE player :)

How to defend anything without even trying

Posted: 28 Mar 2018 08:45 PM PDT

Having trouble defending against husks in tgis slightly higher mission. Maybe you are underpowered but need to do a quest. Maybe you need to defend your storm shield but messed up and put traps in collection book. Maybe rng is just not on your side and your survivors and gear are just weak. Heres the secret to beating any defense mission without using traps or ever shooting your gun. All you need is resources, so have fun if your outlander.

So heres what you do.

  • Suround objective with walls

  • using those walls build a sandwhich (wall, slanted roof connected to it, then another wall. Put 2 tile floor under it. Put walls on sides)

  • repeat step 2 around this wall and stack walls above ceiling so you have 2 high walls. Make sure walls above have a ceiling.

  • if mission is way harder then repeat 1 more time.

  • Make sure to upgrade the actual walls. Can ignore top layer. Can ignore stairs or slanted roofs. Make sure the slants are facing husks so smashers dont charge.

  • go afk

Works in all defenses of 10 minutes or less which can be extended with more walls. The enemies will just sit there trying to destroy the walls the entire time. Feel free to add the bouncing floor traps for cc around outside (add a slanted roof or stairs above floor trap so they fly away from objective). If you want you can also just build walls and ceilings only and just make it super wide so it takes them long to get close to objective.

Have fun progressing with just resources alone.

Day 30: Epilogue - The unrelenting journey of trying to get help is finally over.

Posted: 28 Mar 2018 07:10 PM PDT

I promised myself I would deliver results when I got them.

for those unaware

Today I was pushed past the affected missions that had been holding me hostage in plankerton. I didn't expect it to take this long, and throughout my posts I tried to remain positive throughout all the grief.

Even weeks into my ordeal, I even defended EPIC here

I noticed throughout many of my posts people would also complain about their unanswered tickets.

My PSA for those with unanswered tickets, if you love this game, be patient.

EPIC did right by me and my son now that we can play together again. I never once asked for compensation and they did give me a few V-Bucks which was unnecessary, but completely appreciated.

I am not excusing how long it takes for customer service tickets to get responded to. It's too long, but it's what we currently have. So until EPIC catches up with the queue of tickets

PATIENCE

it's the only way you're gonna still love the game.

and one last thing for those that missed this comment from /u/Magyst

If your issue is literally preventing you from playing or progressing then let me know directly. The ticket que is high because there is a large number of tickets and It wouldn't be fair to escalate every single ticket that pops up on reddit to the front of the line. However, issues like this that are literally blocking will be escalated and addressed accordingly. I know it's incredibly frustrating and we're working on ramping up the support staff to accommodate the huge influx of support tickets.

I drop some materials and I also have the banner equipped as to help boost HP of the base (after roaming a bit) and I'll normally use a teleporter to get the high ground. What more can I do? ( I didn't realise I could get the double reinforce perks and so I'm grinding for them)

Epic Games and Tencent's Master Plan for Fortnite

Posted: 28 Mar 2018 12:10 AM PDT

Disclaimer: this is speculation. It's based on experience and an ever-increasing wealth of circumstantial evidence, but it's not something for which I have definitive proof. I make no guarantee that this information is accurate.

Remember, this is the STW subreddit. This post is primarily about STW.

We regularly see three kinds of updates:

  1. Quality of Life ("QoL") fixes
  2. Time-gated content releases
  3. Very occasional bug fixes

#1 doesn't actually require any development. Someone fiddles with a few settings in a config file and we're good to go. Everyone is complaining, so they remove a few hinderances in the game to keep us happy for another week or two. Whenever they get some bad press, they make things easier. They're not actually tweaking the mechanics or balancing the game, as would happen with a game in active development. They just remove little annoyances to keep people happy.

#2 is content that has already been developed. It was developed a long time ago. I hold no hope at this point that further content is being developed; Fortnite was given a limited lifespan, during which time Epic Games and Tencent believe it will make the majority of its profits. The content is scheduled to run out right around the time Fortnite stops being as immensely profitable as it is now. Their estimate is on the conservative side; if the game is profitable longer than they expected, they'll increase the delay between content releases until the profit starts to dip, at which point they'll shut down, pack up, and move onto something else.

#3 sounds like active development, but it's not. We very rarely see actual bug fixes that require developers to deal with code. Take a look at the issue tracker on the forums. How many bugs have been marked as resolved? I see four.

Let's face it: the developers are gone. Maybe they got laid off, maybe they switched projects, maybe they were told they could only keep their jobs if they relocated to Tencent's headquarters in China. There's maybe one guy left fixing patches in his spare time while he focuses on another project. They're just paying more attention to Battle Royale, you say? Nope: the issue tracker for Battle Royale looks equally grim. Stuff isn't getting fixed--it's as simple as that.

We all want to believe that this game is going to get better. We all want to believe that Epic Games and Tencent are using the money we paid them to develop this game. They're not. They've already called it quits. They've ended development, minimized costs, and given Fortnite an expiration date. They pocket the money as pure profit and wait for the game to die. Costs? A few overloaded servers scattered about. Why bother fixing security? By the time people realize how insecure Epic's platform is, the game will already be dead.

But that'd never work! Capitalism, free market, consumer choice...

... which brings us to Reddit. There are still people getting paid to maintain Fortnite, but they're not developers, and they have little control over content. They're not customer support reps, either. They don't respond to support requests. Instead, they've got a damage control team policing Reddit, addressing issues only when someone raises such a hissy fit that it looks bad. They don't even bother making announcements on their site anymore; instead, the roadmap is posted here, on Reddit. When you come to this very public place to complain, the first thing you see a list of promises. They're going to make it all better! Improvements, stack limit increases, Nocturno (oooo, shiny!), and vague guarantees that there will, in fact, be updates.

Well, maybe they're not so bad after all, you say. But then you read carefully, and you realize that all of these promises are just QoL tweaks--stuff some intern can do in a config editor. Maybe a few reskins of existing items. The last few bits of time-gated content are making it through the pipeline, too, so you believe there's hope. And, sure enough, they're halving the frequency of patches:

We will be moving to Hotfix patches every other week to reduce the amount of times you hit that "Update" button before hopping in Save the World.

Ever wonder why nobody gets banned for scamming? That requires paying people to review reports. Better to just let people get scammed. The people who fall for it are too dumb to cause PR issues anyway. They're mostly just kids. There are a million viable ways to solve the scamming issue, but it'll probably never get fixed. Bugs in event quests? Not going to get fixed; the quests aren't going to last forever anyway.

Eventually--probably sometime soon--the Fortnite fad is going to die out. Epic Games and Tencent are sitting back, waiting for that to happen. They're not trying to maximize the lifespan of the game by developing it; they're just milking it for whatever it makes in the state that it's in. They're spending minimal amounts of money to hide the fact that it's dead, but it's dead. At this point, we're playing a game on which the developers have already given up.

I'm well aware that this is controversial post. The people who are going to dislike it the most are the people who know it's true. Conveniently, they're also the people with the ability to delete it. To discourage this, I've also saved an archive of this post on Pastebin.

2018-03-28 07:56 UTC: Fixed a typo.

2018-03-28 08:58 UTC: I forgot to mention how F2P fits into this. When they eventually get too much bad publicity, STW will go F2P. That's why they haven't set a date or milestone. For example, if this post gets enough attention, they'll try to drown it out with hype for F2P STW. It'll bring in a new group of people who will be engaged for a short period of time--they're basically re-releasing the same content to new people at no additional cost. Profit margins will drop a little, but expenses are so low that it doesn't even matter.

STW sens changes when you change BR ADS sens!

Posted: 28 Mar 2018 07:41 PM PDT

My sens is 0.12 (0.4 and 0.4 IIRC for ADS/Zoom) on battle royale

While on STW is just 0.12.

What is happening is, first I don't have an option to pick my sens on ADS/ZOOM which is terrible and have no reason to not have it.

And the actual sensitivity in Save the world is actually my "regular sensitivity" MULTIPLIED BY MY ADS SENSITIVITY!!!! MEANING I'm playing with around 0.12*0.4 or so sens making it so fucking "heavy" (around twice) to look around. I either have to keep CHANGING EVERY TIME I HAVE TO PLAY A DIFFERENT MODE or deal with it, both being really annoying as I'm getting used to one sensibility or tired of changed my configs every day.

So, can we have the same configs for mouse aim/sens than in Battle Royale?

I posted on here earlier today after being highly discouraged at my experience so far in the game. I got a lot of great advice, and today I tried a lot of it out. I even met a really helpful, cooperative player on a mission tonight and now have a friend to play with. Sorry if I was too quick to judge.
