A rager's way o thinking...

Reminder that Timbersaw has possibly the worst level 25 talent in the game.

Posted: 03 Mar 2018 06:24 AM PST

One of Timbersaw's level 25 talents is +8% Whirling Death primary attribute reduction. Now at a glance, this might seem okay; obviously it's not very flashy compared to +1400 Timber Chain range, but it might have a situational use, right?

Sadly when you do the math, you realize just how bad this talent is. Part of the problem is Whirling Death only reduces BASE primary attributes, meaning it does not take into account stats gained from talents, abilities, or items - only levels. 8% of the average hero's base primary attribute at level 25 is ~8 for Strength heroes and ~7 for Agility and Intelligence heroes.

That level of reduction means Strength heroes lose:

  • 160 Max HP
  • 5.68% Health Regen Amp (~1 HP/S per 20 HP/S you have)
  • 8 Damage
  • 1.2% Status Resistance (<0.05 seconds off a 4-second stun)

Agility heroes lose:

  • 1.19 Armor
  • 7 Attack Speed
  • 7 Damage
  • 0.42% Movement Speed (<2 movement speed at 350 base w/ boots)

And Intelligence heroes lose:

  • 84 Max Mana (due to how max mana reduction functions, effectively worthless if not at max mana)
  • 14% Mana Regen Amp (~1 MP/S per 10 MP/S you have)
  • 0.49% Spell Amp
  • 7 Damage
  • 1.05% Magic Resistance

All values are averages so any given hero may lose slightly more or less.

Now Whirling Death's reductions can stack but only up to three applications due to cooldown restrictions (four with Octarine + 10% CDR talent). And bare in mind all of these numbers are against level 25 heroes and it only gets weaker against lower-leveled heroes.

In short, this talent reads "+140-160 Whirling Death damage to Strength heroes, up to three times per fight." Against 78/115 heroes in the game, this talent is literally less impactful than any number of sub-500 gold items. Against the remaining heroes, it adds in maybe one extra spell's worth of damage over a fight if you can stick to strength heroes and keep casting. There's situational and then there's fucking worthless.

Treant armor aoe talent prevents healing of Ancient

Posted: 03 Mar 2018 04:31 AM PST

Got to try out this talent for the first time in a recent match. Tried healing our exposed ancient but saw no effect, only heard it. Despite hearing it though, there was no regen or buff icon on the ancient. It worked on our Tier 3s though. I would hope this isn't intended and was perhaps just something that happened that game. Has anyone else experienced this?

Dota 2 Patch [A]nalysis 7.10 w. Loda, INsaNiA & Taiga

Posted: 03 Mar 2018 05:14 AM PST

You guys are SO entitled for wanting a fun feature like the Battle Cup back in the game.

Posted: 03 Mar 2018 08:14 AM PST

Remember that feature that allowed you to play fun, competitive dota with your friends, that also made shitloads of money for Valve? What an entitled, whiny little shit you are for wanting it back. I can't actually believe you're dumb enough to think that you can solicit services from a private company by paying them money. That's not how life works, pal.

You want hats and cosmetics, you preening little princess? Go play farmville, idiot. I'm here to play REAL dota, spamming the same hero game after game is MY idea of fun and that means no one else is allowed to have a different one. Notice my use of ad-hominems rather than actually engaging an argument, you little crybaby punks.

Anyone who wants anything new, exciting, fresh or fun in DOTA 2 in 2018 is a little bitch.

People complaining about the fact that Bounty runes no longer give XP, you're 3 patches late.

Posted: 02 Mar 2018 08:58 PM PST

So I've seen WAY too many posts about people complaining about how roamers & 5 pos are "ruined" because no bounty xp and whatnot.

But you need to actually quantify just how much XP it is that you're losing. It gives 14xp/minute/rune. Assuming each of the 4 supports on average gets one of the 4 runes (and let's be honest, you have offlaners and carries contesting you for those, so that's not happening), by the 10 minute mark, that still adds up to,:

14 + 28 + 42 + 56 + 70 = 210 XP.

That's barely enough to get you to lv 2! And it's less than 9% of the 2300+ XP you need to get to lv 6. It's irrelevant. Nevertheless though, the tome got buffed to give you +200 XP, so that supports are really not going to feel this change much, and one of them will even end up with MORE xp in 7.10 than in 7.09. Yes, I'm aware there's only 1 tome and yes, I'm aware that some of you have cores who instabuy them. In my games at least though, no one's instabuying tomes unless they got absolutely dumped on in lane, and then the supports don't mind it because it really is the best thing for the team.

The bigger nerfs though happened in 7.07 and 7.08 - where bounty base XP went from 50->25 and 25->0.

That contributed to a net xp loss, assuming 1 rune per support every 2 mins, of about 250 xp per support. And no buff to tome to compensate.

This shit is really being blown WAY out of proportion. 210 xp by the 10 minute mark (if you even get that) is really not a big deal.

It'll slow down some lv 25s, both for cores and supports, but that's a good thing IMO, it feels like everyone's hitting 25 in every game right now..
