When does this ever end well?

Huge Zelda fan. Wasn't able to get the Switch last year because money was tight. My girlfriend surprised me with this early birthday present. Don't deserve her.

BotW Master Cycle Zero "Mystery Fuels" - Partially Solved

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 06:48 AM PST

Upon reading this fuel guide for the Master Cycle Zero, and seeing the lack of information on a specific subset of fuels, I decided to do some research to figure out how these rare items could be used to make high-quantity fuels.

The "mystery fuels" in question are as follows:

  • Monster extract
  • Fairy
  • Ancient Core
  • Giant Ancient Core
  • Star Fragment

From what I've gathered currently, I have determined how monster extract and the two ancient core types can be used as incredibly effective fuel.

Monster extract, when combined with monster parts, will boost the fuel effectiveness of those monster parts. It's essentially an additive that increases their potency, just like a cooking ingredient.

Ancient cores can be used to increase the effectiveness of any and all ancient materials in a similar fashion.

Voice Acting in BOTW - Your thoughts?

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 07:51 AM PST

I'm a massive fan of the LOZ series and currently enjoying every minute of my second BOTW run.

However, It's always been on my mind that the voice acting often doesn't convince me at all....

It's not like I'm trying to find holes in the game - far from it! It's more that it sticks out so much that I can't ignore it.

I have to say that the voice acting for Urbosa totally gets me - I find it the most convincing by far and I enjoy completing Vah Ruta much more than I do the other Divine Beasts because of this.

Just curious on what the community thinks about this and whether or not it's been discussed before?

Thanks!

Is it heresy to like Link Between Worlds Better?

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 04:12 AM PST

Its just that Breath of the Wild gets so much praise everywhere.

I'm playing Breath of the Wild, I'm not done, I'm going to keep playing because I'm kind of enjoying it and still hoping it gets better and I spent 60 bucks. I've played a bunch of shrines, unlocked a bunch of towers, unlocked a couple of memories and beaten/cleansed one of the divine beasts. It mostly feels pretty samey at this point.

Is it premature to say I like Link Between Worlds better? I guess I'm just a sucker for the classic Zelda formula. I've played that game three times and will probably play that one again when I'm done with Breath of the Wild.

I miss dungeons and items and discreet upgrades and a tightly packed and highly varied world. And this is coming from someone who liked Skyrim. I thought that Skyrim and Zelda would mix well but they didn't mix quite as well as I would have thought. But I'm not done yet. Maybe it still gets better.

I made a custom BoTW Wii U boxart.

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 09:02 AM PST

It includes DLC info on the back, and all the screenshots came from my switch. The spine is Wii U blue with white text instead of a game logo. The Wii U logo is at the top left of the front instead of being an annoying banner. I'll make a switch version if someone wants it. https://imgur.com/a/AMKUk

The Water Temple

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 09:45 AM PST

Why do people always act like this dungeon is awful. While not my favorite dungeon in OoT I didn't find it that hard at all. After meeting Princess Ruth and flipping the green switch I just did every room on the bottom floor then went into the center, went up a level and flipped the red switch then rinse and repeat till I got the long shot then went back down to green to finish any room I couldn't before due to length. What usually (besides moving the block early which I think they fixed in OoT 3D cause I'm not sure how u can mess it up but I see people warning about it) makes it so terrible?

Edit: About to finish my first play through of Ocarina so pls no spoilers of anything that happens after the water temple. Anything else is free range.

Zelda music recommendations?

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 09:38 AM PST

Hey all. So I'm in my friend's wedding and she wants us to pick music to walk out to in the reception. I'm a huge fan of classical music and also of Zelda, but i'm having trouble deciding what to walk out to. I want something fun and lively (and probably epic) rather than soft and sweet. Any recs?

Majora's Mask: N64 vs. 3DS

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 12:13 AM PST

So, after completely playing through both the original N64 edition, and the new 3DS remaster edition of Majora's Mask, I have some notes and thoughts that I would love to share with you guys. Tell me what you think.

N64: The N64 version of the game, though not as crisp and smooth with graphics, has more of a nostalgic value for me. Even the wonky aiming controls for the bow and other things add to my loving of this version of the game. I would also like to add that the N64 version has an overall dark and gloomy color look to it, which adds to their creepy experience of the game. After playing through the game again, I realized how dark and twisted this game is. Even when facing enemies that aren't new to me, I still find myself getting a feeling of suspense (especially those damn redeads and gibdos). The unforgettable sense of exploration and anxiety that I get when I head into a dungeon still stays with me to this day, and reminds me of back when I was a kid, going through these dungeons for the first time.

The very vanilla method of time management and keeping track of your quests kept me always struggling to remember what to do at what time. I'll admit that I became extremely reliant upon the Bomber's notebook after playing the 3DS version.

It was amazing to me to see that after all of these years, and despite the N64's graphical and gameplay restrictions, Majora's Mask still holds up pretty well.

3DS: To see the remaster of Majora's Mask for the 3DS is one of the most satisfying things ever. Although I loved the creepy vibe I got from the N64, the improved framerate, graphics and gyro controls prove superior to me. I can't ever go back to aiming my bow with an analog stick. The archery minigame is actually fun and has replay value instead of being a burden.

The brighter colors in the remake make the game a lot less eerie. Although that may sound like a good thing, I actually liked being freaked out when playing certain segments of the game on the N64.

Like I said, the Bomber's Notebook improvements are a tremendous help. I've never felt so organized and ready to tackle any side quest in a Zelda game like I did in Majora's Mask. I'm not usually a completionist, but because of the new system, I felt myself compelled to fully finish my Bomber's Notebook.

Songs. Songs on the 3DS in OOT and MM are much easier to play (that damn frog song side quest in OOT was a breeze on the 3DS). Also the new song of double time improves the pacing of the game, decreasing the amount of time I spent just waiting around.

Overall, despite my priceless childhood experiences with the N64 version of Majora's Mask, the improvements to the game in the remaster are just so tremendous and add so much to my experience, that the 3DS version takes the cake for me, and I will be playing through it again in the near future. Maybe a 3 heart run?

What do you guys think? Remaster or original? Why?

To be honest I’m kinda nervous to paint this, it looks so good right now and I don’t want to mess it up.

First OoT playthrough

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 04:09 AM PST

So after the odd bit of casual Zelda gaming throughout my teenage years (TP, PH) I decided to give some more a go, hopefully play all the main titles over the next couple of years

Starting with OoT 3D by recommendation, plan to do ALttP next, and then decide whether to go down the console/3D route or more handheld/top down route to follow

But so far since starting the game (and I've just got to the part after beating the boss right after unlocking bombs) I've barely been able to work out what I need to do on my own!

I keep having to refer to a guide when I get stuck! Granted some of it has been my own sheer lack of common sense, but some of it I feel like I might never of worked out without looking it up

I dont know if this is common for this particular game, or the Zelda games in general, although I dont remember having these issues playing TP & PH (however I never completed either)

Maybe I'm not cut out for Zelda haha, which is a shame cause I've always been a fan of Link and the series as a whole even though I haven't played many. But with me being unable to play without getting lost and stuck, who knows. Playing on my upcoming flight with no internet will be the test hahah

I'm still enjoying playing it even with all the help which is the main thing, but just wondering if every other game could be like this
