Hearthstone - Newbie Tuesdays Weekly Discussion

Newbie Tuesdays Weekly Discussion

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 04:13 PM PST

Hello members of the /r/hearthstone community,

This is part of a series of weekly threads aimed at both new and old players from the community. It is designed so that everybody may ask any and all questions regarding the game's mechanics, decks, strategies and more.

Please keep it clean and try to add more than just a one or two word response. As the goal of this post is to increase the community's knowledge, the thought process matters as much as the answer! There is also a Theorycrafting Thursday weekly post, for those who wish to discuss some of the more intricate aspects of the game.

Sticky Threads and Guides - Great resources for new players!

Note: I am a bot. Questions or feedback regarding this thread? Message the moderators.

What happens if Grand Archivist casts Time Warp (Mage Quest reward)?

Posted: 05 Feb 2018 05:55 PM PST

I'm legitimately asking if anyone has tested this and can send a video, for those who would want to know the setup for testing this it is;

Mage vs Warrior. Warrior runs Grand Archivist and no spells except Deadman's Hand. The mage completes their quest to get time warp, and hands it to the Warrior via Lorewalker Cho. The warrior then shuffles Time Warp into their deck using deadman's hand, and the grand archivst pulls it out of their deck and casts it after they've hit "End Turn."

I would test it myself, but I'm missing some of the required cards.

One of 4 things should happen;

  • The warrior gets an extra turn starting immediately, skipping their opponent's turn. (What should happen)
  • The warrior loses the extra turn, and it is consumed by the code because you gained an extra turn during an end-turn step. (Most likely scenario if the game doesn't know how to grant extra turn at this step.)
  • The warrior gets to take an extra turn after their next regular turn. (What I think will happen)
  • The game ceases and dies because it doesn't know how to handle the extra turn being granted during this step. (Unlikely, it would probably just eat the extra turn.)

If someone has some free time, and deadman's hand (The card I am missing) and either Grand Archivist or a way to copy one that I play, we can test this.

EDIT:

Tested it with u/AndyNoribs

Grand Archivist casting Time Warp works correctly; rather then the turn switching to your opponent first, your extra turn starts immediately.

As an extra test, we tried Casting a Timewarp then also having archivist cast an additional at the end of the turn, that also worked correctly, giving the warrior 2 more additional turns.

Core class abilities that arent in HS

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 06:50 AM PST

Even since I first started HS in beta, I found it strange that druids (which I mained in vanilla and TBC) never had any heal over time spells. These were so core to the function of the class, I fully expected a card that would heal over consecutive turns to be in HS. Keeping with this theme, what other core class abilities that were in WoW arent in HS?

Playing this deck is, by far, the most fun I've ever had in Hearthstone. If you're not looking to win (but usually end up winning anyway) and want some lols and surprises, then this deck is for you.

I really really appreciate the changes to the ranked ladder, but could you update the %?

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 07:25 AM PST

We've had two relatively large and recent changes to how ladder ranking works (ranked floors and dropping only 3 ranks at the end of the season).

But we haven't received an update to the percentile that blizzard claims you fall within. These numbers must have changed - two mechanism have pushed everyone's ladder rank higher.

I know it's a little thing, but these numbers seem like they could be automatically updated every month off of the previous months data. Anyway you could make this happen blizzard?

Hearthstone Update 10.2 - February 6 - Ranked Play Update

Blizzard added $1200 USD to the Quest for Packs grand prize because of "concerns that the idea of winning the Grand Prize is a daunting prospect."
