Past Q&A Megathreads

Known bugs (some have possibly been fixed):

See here for Niantic-recognized bugs.

  • New: Shadow-Bans If you have ever used a third-party service (such as an IV checker) that required you to log into your Pokemon Go account, and/or you have ever received a warning message about unauthorized access, you may have recently been "shadow-banned". You can still play the game like normally, but only common Pokemon will show up and you will not see "rare" spawns while others will. You will need to remove any such services, revoke their authorizations, change your password, etc. Roughly a week after doing so, people have reported the shadow-bans being lifted for legitimate players.

  • New in 0.59.1 The Pokédex displays genders for Pokémon you have caught, if applicable. However, code for genders was only added sometime in December/January. Any Pokémon caught/evolved prior to that will have a (randomly assigned?) gender in the Inventory, but will not properly display the gender in the Pokédex.

  • Sometimes while the game is loading it will get stuck on a white screen. This seems to be due to an anti-bot "Captcha" screen that didn't load correctly, and can usually be fixed by restarting the app.

  • There is a bug with the GPS not connecting properly, which results in nearby Pokémon spawns disappearing for a few minutes.

  • The game will randomly crash sometimes. Having the most updated version of the app and the most updated version of your operating system tends to minimize this, but it still happens.

  • There are graphical glitches sometimes where a Pokémon will spawn as a "miniature" version of itself. If you restart the app and are still close enough, it should reappear normally and be clickable.

  • There is a bug sometimes while battling a gym if you don't have a great connection. If you dodge an attack that would otherwise kill you, sometimes the game won't register the dodge and your Pokémon will "faint". Then the game will sync with the server and undo the damage that you dodged, but your Pokémon still shows as fainted and you can't actually attack.

  • If phone time is not set to Automatic, Incense and Lures may not work properly. Fix this by setting time to Automatic (in your phone's Time/Date settings)

There's this Pokéstop/Gym near me which seems inappropriate. Can I report it?

Use this link. However, Niantic seems to be preoccupied with other things now, so don't expect too much.

We have Niantic representatives on both here and /r/TheSilphRoad - please do not ping them for bugs which are in the known issues page unless you have found a niche yet gamebreaking issue/exploit.

Salty Sunday - Rage Rants and complaints

Posted: 31 Dec 2017 10:09 AM PST

Have you been the one missing the Mewtwo EX raidpass? Maybe you haven't been lucky the whole week and that damn raid Tyrannitar ran and everyone else caught him.

Or the worst part, maybe it's monday again?!

(ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻

Here we rant about everything that goes wrong, someone who sniped a gymspot ( ̄Д ̄), a missed Tyrannitar again (ಠ_ಠ) or that stupid bug which made you miss your raid because of the server desync, ending the raid prematurely (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ

No personal insults, no trolls and provocation but all salty stuff is accepted.

  • Only salty posts allowed ( ಠ_ಠ )

  • No uncivilty or personal information allowed. ☜(`o´)

  • Complaints can be posted here as well, agree that stuff needs to change here as well, like the spawn rate or gym bugs.

    (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻

Don't forget to hydrate after all the salt!

[Idea] Why don't make premium balls (the ones left after catching a raid pokemon) turn into pokeballs?

Posted: 31 Dec 2017 05:27 AM PST

The obvious answer is "money" I know.

But I think this would help out the rural community who almost always run out of pokeballs since they don't have much pokestops/gyms nearby and solo raid low level raids who almost always leave 10+ premium balls after catching.

The other players that could bebothered about this excess of pokeballs might as well discard all of them if they feel like it.

At the end of the day, I highly doubt that anyone would pay 100 coins to get premium passes only to take advantage of the "premium-pokeballs" and I don't really think that this would hurt Niantic's economy that much.

Ending the year with a 100% IV of my favorite Gen 3 Pokemon!

Posted: 31 Dec 2017 09:37 PM PST

https://imgur.com/LWQZR8F

So me and my group of raid friends were finishing up our final raid for the night and about to drive everyone back home. When we heard news of a 100% level 35 ralts that spawned the town over from one of our friends whom lives over there. We booked it in the car and drove there and we caught it right before it despawned. The adrenaline was so much fun. Man what a great and exciting way to end 2017, can't wait to see what shows up next year! Happy New Years everyone!

edit: I did power it up to level 38, will max it out when I hit level 38! still 37.

IDEA FOR NIANTIC: Streamlining Appraisal

Posted: 31 Dec 2017 04:18 PM PST

When appraising a Pokémon, it's tedious to press a button, select "Appraisal", then scroll through 5 to 7 options that you don't care about. Especially when doing 100+ times a day.

My idea:

(1) Have an "Appraisal" button directly on the Pokémon's main screen. (2) Remove the "Let's take a look at your <Pokémon's name> shall we?" screen, which is unnecessary. (3) Once you get to the "Your Pokémon is strong, amazing, etc." screen, have an (X) that you can select to end the appraisal. If the Pokémon isn't amazing, I'm guessing most of us don't care about the HP, Attack, and Defense.

There you go. Two button clicks. Extra optional clicks if a Pokémon is amazing.

(As a bonus: If a Pokémon has perfect stats, say so!) (Added bonus: Simply post the IVs!)

[Complaint] Please Nerf Berry Camping!

Posted: 31 Dec 2017 09:00 PM PST

On the night of New Year's Eve I attempted to take a Team Instinct Gym. But when I had almost knocked out all six defenders, their motivations sprang back up to full. Many battles ensued and every time I was close to knocking out even one pokemon the mystery berry camper would feed it what I believe to be golden raspberries. On many occasion I'd start a battle only for the defending pokemon to take absolutely no damage during the first few seconds of the battle while the berry camper was in the process of feeding it while I battling it. This went on for nearly an hour and I finally gave up as I had expended a large amounts of potions and revives. From what I observed I believe the berry camper in question was a spoofer given that no one else was anywhere near the gym and the establishment itself was closed so no one could have been inside.

This experience highlights how broken the berry-feeding system can be for people who have farmed up a ton of golden raspberries, which is especially easy now for spoofers and non-spoofers since all raids award them. While it is possible for a berry camper who is physically at the location in question to tire and leave the gym to the attacker, this is a lot harder to do if the berry camper is a spoofer who can feed the Gym defenders golden raspberries for maximum efficiency (as all berries lose effectiveness if you are far away) from the comfort of his/her home. Therefore I suggest that berry-camping be nerfed in one or more ways:

1) Decrease the effectiveness of Golden Raspberries.

2) Put a cap on the amount of berries any pokemon can receive in a given time frame regardless of how many accounts have fed it (this is to combat people who use multiple accounts to spam berries).

3) Make it so that if the pokemon is currently engaged in battle it cannot be fed a berry (to prevent the Pokemon from gaining a couple seconds of invincibility if it is fed a golden raspberry during combat).

What are you guys' experience with berry-camping? Do you think Spoofers abuse the current system and if so how could we combat this? Do you think berry camping should be nerfed?

Upgraded my phone and rediscovered the joy of PoGo

Posted: 31 Dec 2017 01:43 AM PST

Desperate to start the game back in July 2016, I downloaded PoGo through APK as my phone at the time wasn't compatible. I loved playing but I went through a year and a half of intense lag, ridiculously low battery life and having to reboot my phone after every software crash (like 4 times a day). I've recently upgraded my phone from the Samsung Galaxy S3 Neo to the Samsung Galaxy S7 and this game has become an entirely new experience! I had no idea I had been missing out on so much and this has become a joy to play once again. I can actually take part in raids and take down gyms without my phone overheating and having a panic attack. This game is amazing!
