Crafting QoL - "Collapse all tabs"

Posted: 31 Dec 2017 02:38 PM PST

The only thing I want is a "collapse all" for the crafting tabs.

As of right now I have to click on each individual section, while scrolling down because the refinement is near the bottom, which is the section I use most.

Collapse all tabs would make life extensively easier. How is this not an option?

Lore-wise, who are considered the greatest individual warriors in Tyrian history?

Posted: 31 Dec 2017 11:32 AM PST

Not as in warrior profession-wise. I mean fighting ability. Prince Rurik? Palawa Joko? Turai Ossa?

What happened to Arcanist Slizz?

Posted: 31 Dec 2017 11:46 AM PST

Arcanist Slizz is an Asura that should be located at the entrance of the Antre of Adjournement. When I first did this jumping puzzle years ago I'm sure he was there as I remember his snarky remark when you ask him how to get out of the water. However I just did the jp again today and he's gone. What happened? Was he removed or is this a bug?

Why are the POF trinkets and accessories so ludicrously overpriced?

Posted: 31 Dec 2017 12:50 AM PST

So I am in the process of changing my Magi Druid over to harrier so I thought I would check out the POF accessories that are available from the heart venders. At the time of writing, the Trinkets are 3000 Traders contracts, plus 40 pulsing brandsparks and 20 Laurels. Considering that the brandsparks are currently selling for nearly 1 gold each, you would need nearly 40 gold, plus the laurels for just ONE trinket. Why on earth would you bother doing that when you can just either get a fractals one and select harrier or farm bitterfrost frontier berries. Ona few alts, you'd set yourself out in all new trinkets in a few hours.

EDIt: You CANNOT get the pof stats through LS3 maps unfortunately, which makes it even more of a grind!

This is blatantly ridiculous and brings into the much wider issue of not only overpriced items but the absolute miniscule rewards we get in POF. I'm currently sat at 300 trading contracts after playing in the exp for most of the day on andoff. To do a long event and see 3 trading contracts as a reward is plainly unfair. Is ANET going to do anything about this absurd imbalance?

It would be incredible if Anet could spread unique NPCs throughout Maguuma for the HoT elite specialization.

Posted: 31 Dec 2017 12:51 AM PST

-Specializations oops typo

I absolutely loved discovering elite-specialized NPCs and reading through the lore of the new PoF specs and having them feel real and seeing NPCs playing the same class as we are made the characters around me feel so much alive and unique.

I hope it's possible that in a future patch Anet could add 9 special NPCs throughout the Heart of Maguuma for us to talk to to learn more about the lore of our favorite HoT elite specs. I do understand that the lore for the PoF elite specs has been more throughout than their HoT predecessors, but surely it couldn't be all too difficult to just give us a special NPC to talk to, even if it's made up on the spot.

Guild Wars 2 Performance Test CPU Upgrade Benchmarks (Haswell -> Coffee Lake Comparison)

Posted: 30 Dec 2017 10:23 PM PST

Just yesterday I upgraded my PC's CPU (and RAM) to take on more workstation type tasks, but I was excited to see what it could do for my GW2 experience as well. I will start with the comparison chart first at the top and then go into detail about the settings and other hardware underneath. However, I should first mention two things:

  1. By default my Character Model Limit setting was on "Lowest." During the benchmark I set it up to "Highest" a few times, which I will label as "Highest Culling."

  2. I am showing the framerate as lowest to highest underneath the sections labeled with my old CPU model and my new one. Ex. if it says "30-35" then 30 was the lowest framerate I witnessed and 35 was the highest. In each case, I gave the game time to load in before I recorded the low.

EDIT: These are stock clock speeds. Neither of these CPUs were overclocked at the time of these tests. When I get around to overclocking my new CPU I will make a brand new thread about OC performance in GW2.

Location i5-4670K FPS i7-8700K FPS Increase
Royal Terrace facing center 29 - 33 34 - 37 15%
Same as above with Highest Culling 24 - 27 29 - 33 22%
Same as above at night 33 - 41 48 - 55 39%
At night with Highest Culling 27 - 31 36 - 45 39%
15 Orphan Run 51 - 66 52 - 109 2% - 65%
15 Orphan Run with Highest Culling 24 - 38 37 - 92 108%
Wonderland Jumping Puzzle 78 - 128 102 - 144 19%
Victory area of puzzle 120 - 130 154 - 170 30%
Choya stampede 1-2 helpers 38 - 61 57 - 79 37%
Amnoon East Gate facing city 38 - 45 51 - 57 30%
Same with Highest Culling 33 - 38 43 - 49 30%
Amnoon Trading Post 53 - 59 66 - 76 27%
Same with Highest Culling 43 - 49 56 - 66 33%
Fractal lobby 97 - 100 128 - 131 31%
Urban Fractal spawn 36 - 40 49 - 55 37%
Same with Highest Culling 30 - 33 42 - 47 41%

Now you can already see a pattern where the new CPU with Highest culling settings is actually running better than the old CPU on Lowest. However, I did another test to measure that: Fighting the same legendary bounty with ~24 people around, my old i5 had a lowest sustain FPS of 31 where my new i7 had a lowest sustain FPS of 39.

So there are a few things to note here:

  1. Aside from the Fractal tests, the other locations had players as variables.

  2. However, I feel confident I have done enough testing to show a general increase in performance.

  3. The game still drops below 60 FPS in a lot of places, even when powered by the mighty flagship i7-8700K.

  4. Sitting around 30-40 FPS actually feels pretty smooth in heavy zerg chaos, but it feels laggy in cities without the combat to take your mind off it.

  5. The first tests in Divinity's Reach had the lowest performance gain in the day time. I believe the added particle effects in the city from the holiday event are stressing components beyond the CPU. Something at night stresses the PC a bit less. In addition, there may have been more players around during the first test with the new CPU.

Overall, I felt the experience felt slightly smoother on my new tech with higher settings compared to my old tech. I previously felt forced to leave that culling setting on "Lowest" to be able to enjoy the game, but now it seems like I can actually crank it all the way to "Highest." This means I can see pretty much every player and NPC around instead of the 5-10 that are nearest to me. So that's actually REALLY cool. However, time will tell if I want to keep this bonus, or if I would rather take my new framerate gains farther and set those setting down a bit.

So aside from my new CPU and RAM, my other hardware is the same. I have a GTX 1080 graphics card and GW2 is installed on a SATA SSD. I am not taking advantage of the new M.2 NVMe SSD tech yet. I have been running 16GB RAM with both CPUs, but I had to upgrade to DDR4 for the new board.

Overall the upgrade cost me about $700 and it's a good thing I had more in mind than GW2 because staying below 40 FPS in some maps on high end mainstream tech... ouch.

If this gets enough discussion I will write out a comment about what I feel is going on with the engine, performance and the struggles the devs are likely going through. Basically, why things are so slow on high end machines. EDIT: Here it is. Direct link here.

Here are the settings I tested with:

  • Resolution, 2560x1440

  • Frame limiter, Unlimited

  • Animation, High

  • Antialiasing, SMAA High

  • Environment, High

  • LOD Distance, Ultra

  • Reflections, All

  • Textures, High

  • Render Sampling, Supersample

  • Shadows, High

  • Shaders, High

  • Postprocessing, High

  • Character Model Limit, Lowest

  • Character Model Quality, Highest

  • Ambient Occlusion is on

  • Best Texture Filtering is on

  • Depth Blur is OFF

  • Effect LOD is on

  • Light Adaptation is OFF

  • Vertical Sync is OFF

  • Field of View slider is in as close to the center position as possible with a slight bias toward the left.

Worth contacting support for old account or just make a new one?

Posted: 31 Dec 2017 04:08 PM PST

Hi there, I previously had a heroic edition version of guild wars 2 when it first came out. I didn't play it that much back then. I no longer remember my display name I used (about 3 years ago) Was wondering if it's just worth making a new account or trying to get hold of my old one if it's even worth it such as the heroic edition stuff or if they were pointless. Thanks.

Is it known what the Sound Quality slider actually does?

Posted: 31 Dec 2017 03:47 AM PST

Hello everyone,

like the title says, i would like to know how the Sound Quality option technically works and how it attempts to increase "quality".

I did a little testing myself and to me the acoustic environment seemed more "flat" when quality set to low/fast. So i assume that some positional audio processing is affected by this, meaning number of reflections and reflecting meshes. It is also possible that some other stuff is going on, like applying more or less dynamic filters perhaps? And are bit depth and samplerate also affected?

Hell, i would be really grateful for some insights. Cheers.

How much gold should I expect to get from doing Fractals?

Posted: 31 Dec 2017 08:18 PM PST

Yesterday I got 6.3 gold and today 5.5 gold from doing all T4 dailies + recs. I don't think I have earned that low dating back since I was only still doing T2 and below. In the last 2 weeks, I'm getting 7-8 gold on average per day. Was I only very unlucky, or is there a recent nerf to Fractal rewards that I'm not aware about? I'm actually getting more money per day when I was still doing T3 (~2 months ago) with 10-12 gold per day.

i'm only counting the gold that I got from "sell junk" by opening Encryptions with Keys from Chests, approximately 13-15 keys per day.

Privileged Bloodstone Dust

Posted: 31 Dec 2017 02:06 PM PST

Bloodstone bricks can be dismantled into bloodstone dust (blue luck, mystic coin, a brick and a dust grant 100 dust), yet such thing is impossible for dragonite and emphyeral thingies. Anybody knows why?
