The most confusing thing about the first few months of Destiny 2 is why Bungie seems to be "all in" in acting like Destiny 1 never happened at all. The blog post about locked content was just another confirmation.

Posted: 12 Dec 2017 09:22 AM PST

  • Moving forward, we are investigating adding a 3rd difficulty to all Prestige activities, so that we can provide both a challenge that stays relevant with each new Expansion, and a Prestige version that is available to all players.

investigating

I don't know why, because there are certainly more serious issues to discuss, but this finally pushed me right off the cliff I had been hanging onto in regards to my hope for Destiny 2. It's driving me insane. Age of Triumph patch notes were put out on 3/28/2017, which means around 8 months ago in this very year, Bungie came up with a brilliant solution of bringing all previously released raids to relevant endgame levels:

  • Normal mode raids stay at their original LL
  • Heroic Mode raids stay at their original LL
  • A third difficulty was added at the determined relevant max LL

I want to ask something snarky like "Are you fucking serious?", but I know they are 100% serious, and that's the scary part.

What do you mean you're "investigating"? You investigated for 3 years as you left the best content in the game obsolete every time you released an expansion, and people told you how much of a bummer that was, AND YOU FIXED IT. You came up with a logical, fair solution that made them rewarding to the endgame while also keeping rewards and achievements for the original content intact. THIS WAS UNIVERSALLY ACCEPTED AND APPLAUDED, and even the salty bastards that complained about "reskins, I want actual new content, etc. etc." still took it and ran with it. IT WAS A HUGE WIN. This was a pivotal moment in Destiny's history, because we were able to get a ton of play out of AoT because of this one addition of updated raids alone, and the game itself was left in a near perfect state (outside of the rotting, festering pvp sandbox, but that's a separate discussion), and gave people tremendous confidence that this would be the foundation that D2 would be built upon.

Now, you can argue about all the stuff they didn't include from D1, and say they are slowly giving it back to us and charging us for it, but even that no longer makes sense to me though, because if that were the plan, why are we still getting bullshit versions of what we already had before? Heroic Strikes in D2 are literally nothing, when in D1 they were a central part of the replayability of the endgame. It's the easiest win in the short history of D2 to just give them back, with modifiers and some sort of unique gear somehow associated with it, and we would certainly bitch about having to pay for something we already had, but at least we'd have it. Right now we paid for Heroic Strikes as part of a DLC and we don't even have them. It's like they don't even remember what Heroic Strikes were.

Crucible playlists were not condensed until Age of Triumph out of necessity due to declining player numbers not being able to counteract sketchy matchmaking and pure p2p connections. Now D2 shows up and ships with no weekly featured playlist and fewer playlists than D1 ever had. What possible benefit does this provide to anyone? It's objectively worse in every way, and again - this is not a "fresh take" on the Crucible - it's literally the same exact game modes we had before, but restricted. It's like they don't remember resetting that featured playlist every week and seeing the community react to it...it's just like it was never a thing.

The list goes on and on, and I'm sorry if this is already at the front of people's minds, but as a D1 vet, this stuff has just killed my confidence in this game, because I don't know where it's going. The Dawning was such a great event last year for so many reasons, not the least of which being arguably the best overall state of the game it left D1 in once the event was done. How can I be hyped this year with how they have handled basically everything that was successful about D1 so far? You guys ready for an easy exotic quest to get Gjallarhorn, minus wolfpack rounds but with an incredibly detailed new ornament available exclusively through Eververse? Tell me I'm wrong for thinking that...

TL;DR Beyond loot, fixed weapon rolls, subclass abilities, teamshot meta, etc., Bungie has gone out of their way to handle D2 as if D1 never happened at all, and it's driving me insane. Sorry for the rant, but I had to get it out.

The entire Grimoire, for those who are new to Destiny

Posted: 12 Dec 2017 05:06 AM PST

http://destiny-grimoire.info/

The grimoire, for those who are new to Destiny, is a collection of cards that tells the lore of the Destiny universe. These were earned/unlocked as achievements throughout Destiny 1. This is a good resource to anyone who is new to the game (who didn't play D1).

Fashion Aside, There's Only Three Armor Sets in the Game

Posted: 12 Dec 2017 06:22 AM PST

Putting aside the obvious fashion implications of armor - functionally, we only have three sets of armor differentiated by disposition to Mobility, Resilience and Recovery.

This is far from the level of depth that was in D1. Armor sets had unique perks and individual stat rolls that made every piece of gear worth checking.

These days, 95% of armor is an instant shard. Depth in armor must return in D2 to keep drops interesting.

I Am Partially to Blame for Destiny 2's Problems and I'm Sorry

Posted: 12 Dec 2017 09:37 AM PST

As I read many of the threads in this sub that discuss people's issues with Destiny 2 I have realized that many of the drastic changes Bungie have made are the direct result of complaints that were made throughout the life of Destiny 1. A lot of which I contributed to. I participated in conversations and made posts complaining about many of the things that Bungie tried to address in D2 to strike that balance between the casual and hardcore player. I spent hours grinding for a God-roll Eyasluna and bitched on more than one occasion about getting another grenadier/casket mag roll. Now I miss that end of match roll screen I bitched about getting 3 Marks of the Undying Mind when I was farming Imagos with treasure keys. Now I miss strike specific loot I bitched about not getting the Warlock helmet from Oryx for months and then when I got it, I bitched that it was disc/str. I miss being able to customize my armor builds for my play style I complained about how dumb it was to have to chase a tier 12 build. I miss the chase of that perfect Iron Banner bond I griped about dying to supers all the time in 6v6 crucible matches. I miss killing people with supers in 6v6 crucible matches

It turns out that I didn't really know what I wanted but it turns out, it wasn't this. I mean, I wanted what I wanted but I didn't really appreciate that the fun was in the chase. When I finally got the 'Luna I wanted, I cherished it. It really meant something to me. What I didn't do though, was get on this sub and post about how awesome it is that I got what I wanted after all that time. I probably just complained about lag instead. I know what I want now and it is basically what I had in D1. Bungie made the changes (albeit poorly in many cases) that I asked for. So Guardians, I'm sorry. A lot of what's wrong with Destiny 2 is my fault and I deserve to take some of the blame. Oh, except for Tess Everis, that bitch should have died in the Tower.

*edit: Sorry, Eva. My mistake.

Bungie should have Shaxx's Voice Actor record a line about laser tag weekend

Posted: 12 Dec 2017 08:10 AM PST

I remember reading an interview where Lennie James said he enjoys hearing updates on how players like Shaxx's lines. I think it'd be pretty neat (and confusing) to have Shaxx say something about the laser tag weekend. Maybe something like "Laser tag? What cold-hearted fool would want that? My crucible is an arena! Not a play pen!".

I dunno, just a light-hearted thought considering recent events...

RIP Prometheus Lens 5.12.-12.12.2017

Posted: 12 Dec 2017 07:36 AM PST

EDIT: For all the Americans: 5th of December till 12th of December 2017.

It's been an absurd week with everyone using the lens. I got my Lens out of a legendary engram on Thursday and have been using it all the time since then in PvP. Even managed to go flawless with it this weekend.

90% of all kills in Trials of the Nine were with the Prometheus Lens. There where 10 676 829 weapons kills in Trials this weekend, 9 578 292 were with the Lens. I wonder if one gun has had so many kills in such a short timeperiod in the history of Destiny? I doubt it.

1-phase Argos eater of worlds kill (aka hunters aren't useless in raids, finally)

Posted: 12 Dec 2017 04:43 AM PST

(shameless plug since someone asked about it, yes i do also twitch for challenges such as these, since im not sure i can post the link on here, you can find it in the YT description)

After 3-manning argos in 3 phases (which you can see below)

I wanted to take a crack at a standard 1-phase argos kill knowing its certainly possible. Low and behold the result in the video below.

for the 1 phase, We utilized...

4 Celestial Nighthawk hunters

1 Orpheus rigs Nightstalker

1 Sunbreaker titan

Nightstalker is in charge of spam creatings orbs for the rest of the team while also trying contain the exploder harpies

Sunbreaker's primary job is to barricade and hammer any immediate adds around the team, otherwise then DPS the boss

Nighthawks all focused DPSing the boss primarily as much as they could.

I utilized the Void>solar>arc>void formula to predict the cranium locations ahead of time to fit 2 DPS checks into the one argos phase and basd on that we coordinated our assault with the above comp. Credits all around to the whole team of

Why not make all armor sets randomly drop as Mobility/Resilience/Recovery?

Posted: 12 Dec 2017 08:01 AM PST

I'm not seeing Bungie making massive changes to D2 until Y2, but at the very least they can make all the armor sets randomly drop as 1 of the 3 different archetypes.

This way all armor sets become viable in terms of fashion and there is a little bit of a grind. Because right now I'm stuck with only a couple of sets of armor that I use because of the stats. I can't even use my prestige raid gear on my Titan/Hunter because they are rolled with mobility.

At the very least I'll make sure to check each armor drop before I auto shard them. And, truth be told, I'll probably wind up with just a whole armor collection that is all recovery, but it's something for me to look forward to when it drops.

Something about tokens in the raid that I haven’t seen many people talk about.

Posted: 12 Dec 2017 05:10 AM PST

When it comes to tokens in the raid many people simply talk about how anticlimactic it is for bosses to not drop the loot themselves and that most raid rewards are given out at the tower.

But here is a few things that I haven't seen many people talk about in reference to them.

1) Since the actual loot is primarily given back at the tower, it is harder to increase in Light Level as the raid goes on. Back in D1 you beat a stage, you got a slightly higher piece of gear almost always which in turn slightly raised your level AS THR RAID IS PROGRESSING. Now you don't get a majority of your loot until after you get back to the tower.

2) Then when you get back to the tower to get your gear is probably will not help raise your light level because it is technically vendor gear that has a max power lower then Max Level. During the leviathan, going to Benedict and getting a 295 helmet when you're already at 300 light is practically useless gear. USELESS GEAR for the hardest PvE content in the game.

You can buy engrams from Cryptoarch for 25 shards and dismantle them into Masterwork's cores!

Posted: 12 Dec 2017 11:42 AM PST

As per title, buying engrams from cryptoarch for 25 may give you a random weapon (300PL) that can come with Masterwork, dismantling will return you 2 cores! (5 weapons = 10 cores = new weapon of your choice)

Edit; apparently you can get 1 or 2 cores per weapon!

Congrats to FWC for winning the December Faction Rally!

Posted: 12 Dec 2017 05:09 AM PST

Whether we wanted it or not, FWC predicted the coming war between the guardians and the architects. They had seen the time lines converging on this very moment, and that the only way to defend against it was for out right war preparation. Scratchy voice lady from the Expanse made sure to outfit all her followers in the most awful camouflage ever designed, and sent them out to claim the highest honor a time loop predictor can predict! So I ask that you join me in congratulation FWC on winning the December Faction Rally!

The Infinite Forest should be the new Archon's Forge

Posted: 12 Dec 2017 09:04 AM PST

We all miss the Archon's Forge, and the Infinite Forest is a beautiful but highly underused part of the game. Let's solve two problems at once!

Thematically, the Infinite Forest makes a better Archon's Forge than the Forge does. It always seemed a little strange to me how infinite numbers of Fallen were so obliging as to run out and die on our weapons whenever we chose but for the infinite forest, we are literally running simulations. It makes perfect sense that we would put some code into a console and determine exactly the type of encounter we wanted to fight.

The changing terrain of the Infinite Forest would help replayability. Archons Forge was fun but you spent the vast majority of the time standing on the same two pillars and every encounter played out the same way. not an issue in the forest.

I like the way the forest has random modifiers for the heroic adventures. Put these in for the archon's forge variant as well! Here we are fighting top tier Fallen but solar Burn is active!

In fact, since it's literally a simulation, we can go wild with the modifiers. Drop 'code pieces' just like the offerings in Archons Forge, but make more of them and allow players to put in three or four 'cards'. One is an ecounter card, maybe one is difficulty, and the rest just change the arena.

Let players set the gravity to zero, triple melee range, and make the floor Lava, then summon a horde of yellow bar minotaurs.

Introduce random glitches on very rare instances. Suddenly during one of your simulations a ghost ship galleon sails in and blasts everyone with cannonades (heck, reuse the mechanics of one of the hive ships). Suddenly reverse the direction of gravity or turn off the lights or make everyone walk backwards. The possibilities that would be thematic are endless.

The Infinite Forest seems like a great concept with lots of promise. I'm sad it's not a patrol area but it seems like it would just be superb as the new archons forge.

Return the grimoire points to Destiny 2

Posted: 12 Dec 2017 01:27 AM PST

Getting grimoire points was one of the reasons to continue to play in the first part. It was a unique parameter that helped to determine not only the level, but also the player's awareness of many game moments.

The way the grimoire is realized now is awful. Half of the players do not even notice that some things have a button to "see the story"

Even adding a separate section to be updated in the menu would be much more convenient. By getting new things you would see progress, and this system would be one of the reasons to keep playing. Bunge, return the grimoire points, give us another reason to return to the game

Hotfix 12th of December 2017

As per the Expansion and Season Access Update, some changes will be coming into the game following the Maintenance period.

An important update to note is that This weeks scheduled Faction Rally has been cancelled and will return again at a yet to be confirmed date.

Last chance to enjoy Laser tag week! Bungie Tweet

As 'Laser Tag' weekend comes to a close, we're making good on our promise to address the fact that Prometheus Lens is way too powerful. Sure it's fun, but it breaks the Crucible for anyone who wants to use a different weapon. (1/1)

Given the short time window we had to make an emergency fix, it will be adjusted to be way too weak. In January, this new exotic will receive a proper, play-tested design pass. (2/2)

Confirmed changes

  • The Prestige Leviathan Raid will be brought back down to Power 300, and its rewards will drop down to match the new Power Level. All players will regain access to the Prestige Raid. This will allow access to "The Prestige" Achievement/Trophy for all players. This will also allow all players ability to complete the final step for the Legend of Acrius Exotic Shotgun.

  • Trials of The Nine will only require Curse of Osiris when it features a Curse of Osiris map. For all other weeks, it will be available to all players. This will allow access to "Lest Ye Be Judged" Achievement/Trophy for all players. Trials of The Nine rewards that launched with Destiny 2 will still be accessible to all players.

  • New Seasonal Rewards that launched with Curse of Osiris, such as the new Seasonal Armor Ornaments, will require ownership of Curse of Osiris to acquire.

  • The Prestige Nightfall will remain a pinnacle activity, at the new 330 Power cap. This means Prestige Nightfall will require ownership of Curse of Osiris. Because of this, we will update "The Prestige" Achievement/Trophy to only reference The Prestige Raid.

  • Normal Nightfall will only require Curse of Osiris when it features a Curse of Osiris map. For all other weeks it will be available to all players.

  • Time limited events – Iron Banner, Faction Rally, and The Dawning, will be made available to all players.

  • We will be postponing tomorrow's (2017-12-12) Faction Rally, to ensure all of our players can access the activity and the appropriate rewards. Iron Banner and Faction Rally rewards that launched with Destiny 2 will still be accessible to all players.

PC Players perspective

Posted: 12 Dec 2017 04:13 AM PST

Hello everyone. Among all the hate this subreddit has, I'd like to say tell you that I really like Destiny for what it is. As a pc-only gamer I've had my fair share of MMO's and RPG's alike, and imo Destiny 2 has a place there that no other game can occupy.

I'm heavily invested in other online games, and destiny is a well deserved break from those. Every tuesday is like a christmas morning for me, a whole day to get new loot and rise my power level, slowly but surely. Gameplay is fun and smooth, everything looks pretty and shooting stuff is so satisfying. I do my milestones and log off. Then I come back for the weekend to check Xur and maybe do some pvp for fun.

That's it. I love it that I don't have to invest all my free time to progress. Obviously the game has some problems. Like the lack of communication between players, which is just laughable for a pc game, but luckily we have plenty of 3rd party options for that. I've never played Destiny 1 so I have nothing to compare to, but in my experience every MMO has their problems, and it takes years to iron everything out. It's nothing unheard of for me.

As for the pricing, it is what it is. I've payed full price before for games which offer much less content, and much less for games that far exceeded my expectations. It might be due to where I live, but 60€ isn't that much for me, and 20€ for curse of osiris, I'll spend that much on a groceries if I decide to get some snack for the night. MTX on the other hand is bad, but as long as it's just cosmetics i think it's fine. There's a fine line though, how far you can push "cosmetics", and I hope bungie doesn't cross that.

Anyway, the toxicity has really caught on my friends, and they decided to quit when CoO was released. I have yet to even tried the raid as we didn't have enough friends, and I'm too anxious to join new communities these days, so maybe the game is dying slowly for me too. I really hope it's not, as Destiny fills perfectly this narrow slot of relaxing awesomeness in my weekly life.

D1 Raids lost their relevance because the gear could not be infused NOT because of how high or low the light level was.

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 07:52 PM PST

Bungie if keeping raids relevant is important it's not about light level it's about the gear being infusible and therefor still useful when the NEXT raid comes out.

Our guardians never grow more powerful.

Posted: 11 Dec 2017 11:09 PM PST

In the blog post, they talked about wanting content to grow with us as our guardians become more powerful.

But how exactly do we grow in power? Getting higher level doesn't give access to new abilities or lower cooldowns, and getting higher doesn't help us kill stuff faster.

Sure the prestige stuff gets raised to 330, but at 335 you'll have exactly as much, or as little, trouble doing the content as you did when the prestige was 300 and the max light was 305.

Seriously, our guardians never really grow in power from one expansion power cap to another.

That's why they can just reset the prestige raid to 300. It's not like it'll be any easier, or harder, for 335s to take down. A 335 in that raid is not more powerful than a 305.

All light levels ever do is move the goalposts for the skinner box so we can push that arbitrary number a little higher, and it's getting more than a little insulting.

All growing more powerful has ever meant is that you can kill the same enemies in the time you are accustomed to when those enemies are given an arbitrarily higher power level.

If we're gonna raise level caps, and we're gonna raise power level caps, then it has to mean something. Give us new abilities, let us do more damage, let us, for the love of God, be more powerful.

Because right now you could give every youtuber 1000 power and it wouldn't mean anything.

Edit: Thanks so much for the gold and the great discussion!

With Curse of Osiris now live, it's clear that we've made some mistakes with how we have handled content access. We would like to talk through the reasoning behind our decisions so far and what we are committed to changing moving forward.

The Destiny endgame features a variety of activities and playlists that we want to remain relevant to players as they grow more powerful. In Destiny 1, as your character grew more powerful throughout each expansion, some of our best content, like Vault of Glass, was left behind and lost its relevance for players. We wanted a better solution for Destiny 2, where all of our Endgame activities could stay relevant as each Expansion causes your Guardian to grow more and more powerful.

The following were our goals when we separated "Normal" and "Prestige" modes:

  • The Normal Leviathan Raid and Normal Nightfall would always stay at a Power level that was accessible to all players.

  • Prestige difficulty would always rise to the new Power cap. It could be the pinnacle of challenge, with the most prestigious rewards, but it therefore would require you to own the latest Expansion and be at the new Power cap.

Additionally, the game provides Seasonal, time-limited PvP playlists – Trials of The Nine and Iron Banner. These activities and their rewards are meant to evolve each Season, and they utilize new maps, so they would require you to own the latest content. To play the latest season of Iron Banner or Trials, and earn the new rewards, players would need to own Curse of Osiris.

We've heard from the community that both of these plans aren't working. The Prestige Raid was a novel experience that players value, even if they don't own Curse of Osiris, and it was a mistake to move that experience out of reach. Throughout the lifetime of the Destiny Franchise, Trials has always required that players owned the latest Expansion. However, for Destiny 2, Trials of The Nine launched as part of the main game, so it's not right for us to remove access to it.

To make matters worse, our team overlooked the fact that both of these mistakes disabled Trophies and Achievements for Destiny 2. This was an unacceptable lapse on our part, and we can understand the frustration it has created.

Therefore, this week, we will release a hotfix that will make the following changes:

  • The Prestige Leviathan Raid will be brought back down to Power 300, and its rewards will drop down to match the new Power Level. All players will regain access to the Prestige Raid.

    • This will allow access to "The Prestige" Achievement/Trophy for all players.
    • This will also allow all players ability to complete the final step for the Legend of Acrius Exotic Shotgun.
  • Trials of The Nine will only require Curse of Osiris when it features a Curse of Osiris map. For all other weeks, it will be available to all players.

    • This will allow access to "Lest Ye Be Judged" Achievement/Trophy for all players.
    • Trials of The Nine rewards that launched with Destiny 2 will still be accessible to all players.
    • New Seasonal Rewards that launched with Curse of Osiris, such as the new Seasonal Armor Ornaments, will require ownership of Curse of Osiris to acquire.
  • The Prestige Nightfall will remain a pinnacle activity, at the new 330 Power cap.

    • This means Prestige Nightfall will require ownership of Curse of Osiris.
    • Because of this, we will update "The Prestige" Achievement/Trophy to only reference The Prestige Raid.
    • Moving forward, we are investigating adding a 3rd difficulty to all Prestige activities, so that we can provide both a challenge that stays relevant with each new Expansion, and a Prestige version that is available to all players.
  • Normal Nightfall will only require Curse of Osiris when it features a Curse of Osiris map. For all other weeks it will be available to all players.

  • Time limited events – Iron Banner, Faction Rally, and The Dawning, will be made available to all players.

    • We will be postponing tomorrow's Faction Rally, to ensure all of our players can access the activity and the appropriate rewards.
    • Iron Banner and Faction Rally rewards that launched with Destiny 2 will still be accessible to all players.
    • New Seasonal Rewards that launch with Curse of Osiris, such as the new Seasonal Armor Ornaments, will require ownership of Curse of Osiris to acquire.

We expect these changes to go live tomorrow at the end of scheduled maintenance to deploy Update 1.1.1. Moving forward, we are also looking to improve on Heroic Strikes, with new challenges, new Modifiers, and free access for all players.

Thank you for your patience and feedback as we work to continuously improve the Destiny 2 experience.
