TrumpSC Appreciation

Posted: 13 Jul 2017 02:46 AM PDT

I've been watching Trump for a while and I just wanted to say that I think that he's an awesome personality on the hearthstone scene. To me (someone who is not very involved), he's a perfect balance of competitive and fun-loving. I've also learned a lot about how to play arena, and have increased my average wins from the horrible 2-3 to an okayish 5-6 (one day maybe I'll be an infinite player).

So I just want to shout out what a great job I think he's doing (and Jens! Jens is awesome!) and that I hope he continues to enjoy what he's doing as much as I enjoy it.

I hope discover is put on pause during KotFT

Posted: 13 Jul 2017 02:16 AM PDT

Discover used to be a good mechanic with the cards like Raven Idol, Dark Peddler or Jeweled Scarab that had a relatively small power level. They gave a nice boost and let the player manage the RNG to a degree, but they rarely if ever decided the game's outcome.

However, nowadays the power level of discover has increased to the level that it often becomes a "discover your win condition" – be it your second or third tirion/ice block or the extra burn spell/murloc warleader you needed to win the match. In fact, discover from Stonehill defender in Paladin is currently on the level that the players should be expecting that the opponent discovered either Tirion Fordring or Sunkeeper Tarim. If they do not discover one of them, it is considered bad luck – how ridiculous is that? Of course, this is one of the most extreme examples due to discover favoring class cards and nearly all paladin's class taunts are legendaries, etc., etc. – Yet, knowing all that does not really change the current situation in any way. Another example would be Primordial Glyph that most often lets mages to discover the spell they need for the situation as there are hardly any bad spells to choose from (Shatter excluded) and on top of that, the spell's mana cost is discounted – it's like twisting the knife in the wound as if it was not already bad enough that they got the extra fire ball etc. to begin with.

One other reason discover also feels frustrating is that the discover cards themselves are not that bad. They are usually low cost with reasonable stats, so there is no actual downside of playing them either. For example, Stonehill Defender's health is just outside of the "usual removal" range while Servant of Kalimos and Primalfin Lookout costs just one more mana than a vanilla minion with those stats. If more of them would have stats similar to Lotus Agents and Grimestreet Informant, they would feel a lot less frustrating to play against, because at the moment the player gets an effect that ranges from good to excellent by playing a minion with reasonable stats.

Finally, I know that the reason why discover is so powerful at the moment is due to the small pool of cards since a standard rotation just happened, so there is a very good chance that the player discovers "just the thing". For example, in Wild these cards are not nearly as frustrating as in standard. Therefore, it is likely that after KotFT expansion releases the power level of these cards decreases, but my only wish is that they would not create new discover cards at least for KotFT. After all, they have used the mechanic in one way or another since the League of Explorers expansion – I honestly think a pause would do good for everyone.

Y'all wrong about Alley Cat

Posted: 13 Jul 2017 02:48 AM PDT

You say that Cute Cat is cuter than Alley Cat, and you might be right, idk, I personally think Alley Cat is cuter but you do you. BUT, look at the art for Alley Cat. Look real close. You see that in the background? Up the top? It's Cute Cat! The Alley Cat art has both Alley Cat AND Cute Cat in it!

So what does all this mean, really? Well it means that whenever you fools kill an Alley Cat to save Cute Cat, you're still killing the cute cat! So - kill Alley Cat, kill two cats. kill Cute Cat, only kill one. I know we're all face hunters here, but I think even we can understand that one dead cat is better than two.

And so r/hearthstone, I implore you, we need to save as many cats as possible. Don't kill Cute Cat under the misguided belief that you're saving him by killing Alley Cat. Kill cute cat first, and so let him live on with his brother, Alley Cat.

I might have accidentally memed myself into getting a golden hero and I'm afraid of what to do next

Posted: 12 Jul 2017 10:21 PM PDT

About a year ago I opened up my favorite card in my collection: a golden renounce darkness. I played it and to my surprise it turned my whole deck and hero power to sweet sweet gold I instantly knew I had to craft a non-golden one and build myself a 29 class card prince malchezzar renounce darkness meme deck. And meme I did. I memed on the toilet, on my way to work, before bed. I started doing my class card quests for every class with renounce darkness. Before long I was addicting to turning my deck to that delicious cost reduced gold. I was a modern day king midas. Sure I hovered around rank 17, but what difference did it make. And with moments like these could you blame me?

But then I saw it. I was approaching 500 wins, and that meant a golden gul'dan. I had spent so long memeing I never actually got good at playing warlock. I could play that last game, but alas I could never return to ladder. What would they link when I life-tapped with a ten card hand? What would they think when I tried to coin out my mountain giant."That was a mistake" indeed! I couldn't even meme with my renounce deck anymore. Playing my non-golden one would turn my beautiful golden hero power to wood again. What should I do reddit?

TLDR; I played too much renounce warlock and now I'm close to having a gold hero but i still suck with the class

March of the Burning Legion: A Custom Hearthstone Expansion

Posted: 13 Jul 2017 05:10 AM PDT

Hey everyone! I'm proud to announce that after over a year and a half of design, I've finally finished my custom expansion, March of the Burning Legion.

March of the Burning Legion is an expansion based on the Burning Legion's many invasions of Azeroth, featuring characters and events mainly from the War of the Ancients and the Second War. It features 144 new cards and eight Missions based on the Black Temple raid in World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade (Missions to come soon).

Among some of the highlights of this set are the addition of 49 Demons (both neutral and class cards), increased prevalence of the Immune mechanic, and awesome Legendaries such as Queen Azshara and Kil'jaeden, the Deceiver (and Ragnaros, Lord of Fel).

Special thanks to the CustomHearthstone Discord, without which none of this set would be possible. And of course, thanks to HearthCards (and Nikko!) for making card creation itself possible.

Feedback is much appreciated!

I'm too lazy to make decks for "build-a-deck" Brawls, so I just use auto-built decks. Been doing it for months. Works better than you'd think.

Posted: 13 Jul 2017 05:58 AM PDT

Here's a deck for this week's brawl.

I mean, it's obviously crap, but I still find I win fairly often, and it's a lot more fun being surprised at what cards I draw than knowing them ahead of time or even worse, net-decking.

14 New DeathWing Animation at the same time

Posted: 13 Jul 2017 09:30 AM PDT

I pre-purchased my first expansion ever because Blizzard gave me free stuff. I have never been a happier player.

Posted: 12 Jul 2017 06:52 PM PDT

Even though it sounds kind of backwards, all this free loot with the fire festival and the leaked event enticed me to buy the 50 packs. This means that I'm on track to open 100 packs for KotFT, as opposed to my usual 20 to 30. That, as well as having broken my record in ranked recently, makes me a very happy (now) customer of Blizzard.

I just wanted to post this as a thank you to Blizzard for making me such a happy player. To celebrate, I plan on crafting Thaurissan and Alextraza, as well as a couple Ice Lances then hitting legend for the first time with Pirate Warrior in wild.

Enjoy it while it lasts: Anduin has topped the BM tier list for a limited time

Posted: 12 Jul 2017 11:56 AM PDT

For the Midsummer Festival, all the heroes got a new greeting - almost all of them entail some reference to the festival, fire, etc.

Except Anduin, who says "Looking forward to the fireworks!" in that gratingly chipper voice of his.

Like any legendary BM emote, it seems totally innocent at first glance. But let's stop and think. What does every single match end with, following the cratered face and victory message? Thats right...

If you didn't realize this before, enjoy your newfound appreciation for this fine BM vintage.
