DEAR NIANTIC - ideas, suggestions, complaints for our overlords [Meta]

Posted: 30 Apr 2017 09:01 AM PDT

Hey Niantic! You guys made a game we all have a lot of feelings about...and this is our spot to express those feelings and make some statements about ways we think the game could be even better for us - and by extension, you!

Here you will find ideas and suggestions, requests and complaints - a mix of the positive posts and constructive criticism that reddit's Pokemon Go community have compiled and discussed and up/downvoted by importance and validity for us all. If there's one post on /r/pokemongo you guys should be paying attention to, it's this one, so please do.

Hey /r/PokemonGo Trainers! This recurring weekly post is for you guys - we'll be aggregating a Top 10 list every month based on which top-level comments in this thread get the most user response, so please look for that near the end of each month as well.

Sort posts by "top" to see what has been voted most important so far, but consider sorting by "new" as well to weigh in on the most recent ideas!

Please pay attention to the /r/PokemonGo rules for commenting behavior and civility, and use the report button when necessary to alert the mods to any post or thread that needs a review!

Contest Voting Thread - Loading Screens!

Posted: 30 Apr 2017 06:32 AM PDT

Hey /r/pokemongo!

6 weeks ago or so, we announced a contest for the subreddit to design a loading screen for Generation 2. Well, in that time we've received several submissions, some of which are quite funny, some others adorable, and others great submissions overall!

So, without further ado, it's time to vote on the submissions! You will have 7 days to do so, until May 7, 00:00 UTC.

You can vote on as many as you want, so be generous with the upvotes!

New affinity for rural players

Posted: 30 Apr 2017 03:40 PM PDT

[discussion] I have to say I have a new appreciation for any rural player that has stuck with this game for any length of time. I live in the suburbs so while I might have to drive to a park, town square, etc at least there are spawns and stops here. My daughter had a soccer tournament out of town and there is no way I would have made it past a few days playing if I had lived there. There was nothing. Not even at the hotel which was really odd.

I know we have all read a lot of posts about rural play being terrible but Niantic really needs to get on it. I had no clue. Kudos to all you rural players that continue to play!

Notice any new Pokemon in your area? I've been seen Vaporeon popping out lately after the water event was over.

[Idea] Heart Scale

Posted: 30 Apr 2017 07:29 AM PDT

Was just thinking they could add this to the shop (or maybe as a levelling up reward or very low drop chance from pokestops)

80 Pokecoins Heart Scale Effect: Teaches your pokemon a random new set of moves (you cannot re roll to the same move set you currently have and cannot re roll to legacy move sets)

Gives you the option to "fix" those high IV pokemon that have terrible movesets, pricing wise they are the same tier as lucky eggs and incense.

Niantic would generate revenue from people trying to optimise their pokemon, they already have the move set generating code in the game for when pokemon evolve so I would imagine it would be somewhat easy to move that into a consumable item.

Seems to me it could something they could (and imo should) implement into the game, thoughts?

Top 10 attackers in Pokemon Go based on cycle DPS

Posted: 30 Apr 2017 01:17 PM PDT

Hi!

Hereby I want to present You top 10 attackers in Pokemon Go. You can compare them and their movesets by looking at "prowess stat". Prowess is their DPS linked to their base attack stat so it represents completly their firepower.

Link to spreadsheet:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1vj05mTzBwWiNbWlbVc0pCY-UZIprmCLSjfyx7L4hp-U/pubhtml

Link to slideshow: https://youtu.be/vry5_6hwHZ4

This analisys take only into consideration how much damage per second is avialable for those mons. I also tried to chose most tanky ones. Sure Gengar or Alakazam should be also there but the problem is that their DPS isn't much higher than top of those 10 pokemons and they are squishy as hell. So why one would take them over some bulkier ones?

Enjoy!

PS. One thing that was interesting is that when I made those calculations I stumbled into anomaly. Which was Jolteon's low DPS at Volt switch/Discharge compared to VS/Thunderbolt, while Thundershock/Discharge compared to TS/Thunderbolt weren't showing such great difference. It seems like looking at cycle DPS (which is the only manner to link DPS of the move with energy generation of quick moves and energy efficiency of charge moves) won't let you see the whole picture, because it doesn't take into account that excess energy left after a cycle can be used to lower the duration of next damage cycle. I will try to adress it in my next comparision when I will figure out how to make such comparision. I have an idea in mind so it should be done soon. Cya.

How rare is Weezing on a global scale?

Posted: 30 Apr 2017 09:33 AM PDT

I am in the United States and I have only managed to accrue 40 Koffing candies since the release of Pokémon Go. Today, I just caught a wild Weezing and thought WOW! My internet searches weren't very rewarding so I decided to ask the best community of folks I know here on PokemonGo! I'm ready for your words of wisdom! Thanks!

By the way, the Weezing I caught was only CP90

[Idea]How to prevent Gym sniping once and for all: banking Prestige.

Posted: 30 Apr 2017 03:54 AM PDT

We've all seen it happen- you're fighting a Gym, pushing to open a slot- and the second you do, someone went and dropped THEIR Pokemon into it, using your hard work to get some junk Pidgey into the Gym.

Unacceptable. How do we fix this?

We bank Prestige, rather than add it directly to the Gym.

Fighting a Gym earns Prestige as usual. This Prestige is stored until:

1) You fight at another Gym. All banked Prestige is erased. 2) 30 minutes have passed. 3) You spend the Prestige. Spent Prestige can open a slot, but if it does will offer the spender the opportunity to immediately place a Pokemon in that slot in the process (if they didn't have one already), eliminating the chance for it to be sniped. Otherwise, the slot is open to the first Trainer who chooses to add a Pokemon (much like now). Trainers choose how much Prestige to spend, and don't have to spend all of it at once. Someone's attacking your Gym and you had a few thousand extra Prestige from that training session? Spend it when the Gym needs reinforcement and the time is right. Like when that backstabbbing sneak tries to take your Gym after he thinks you left. Have some leftover Prestige? Spend some to help a friend get in. If you're smart, you'll get the Gym just below a slot with your Prestige, and let them spend the pittance needed to lock in theirs.

Making Prestige adding optional and manual rather than automatic gives people a chance to build up a large chunk of Prestige, then spend it to open and instantly fill a slot that under the current system can be sniped by a player who does nothing but watch the counter rise until they can sneak in.

[Story] Back from Cancun, and I got both of the regionals!

Posted: 30 Apr 2017 09:21 AM PDT

As a resident of the U.S. I've seen Tauros a-plenty (though admittedly lately they seem to be lacking). And then I had a trip to Cancun planned, so of course I was on a mission to capture the regionals for there, whilst attempting to appear more engaged in our actual activities as opposed to my silly Pokemans hunting.

That said, I am happy to report I caught at least two of each regional (Heracross and Corsola), but sadly none have impressive stats. Still, I filled out some hard-to-find pokedex entries for them, and have some in reserve for when/if trading happens.

Also I managed to capture a few that aren't region-locked but that I also didn't previously have, and hatched a few pros to replace existing ones I had.

The sad part is almost all of the ones I captured there show a location of ",,Mexico" - I guess PokeGo isn't all that great with the google maps API.

I also tried getting a picture of some regionals when at the ruins of Tulum, but it's actually hard getting cool stuff in the background when the critter is off the path you're allowed to be on, so can't really shift the angle for the AR photo. Would've loved to have a picture of my first Heracross at Chichen Itza.

Can't connect to my Go Plus with Galaxy S8 [Help]

Posted: 30 Apr 2017 12:46 PM PDT

I'm not sure if it's because I got a new phone, or if it's the Go Plus. When I press the button it blinks blue like always. But when I try and connect to the game, it stops blinking when the text gets to "connecting to Pokemon Go Plus" and it never finishes, along with an error message.

https://imgur.com/gallery/9cBVg

Update: Solved, but will leave up with solution in case anyone else is having the issue.

Through a short google search (I'm pretty embarrassed how easy it was to find), I learned that the Go Plus can only be paired to one device at a time. I guess it was still "paired" with my old S6. On Niantic's site, there's a bit on how to unpair it from a device.

  • Press the button and let it blink blue.
  • When it's done, press and hold for 5 seconds, it'll be a solid blue.
  • Press and hold again for 5 seconds and it'll vibrate, successfully unpairing a device.

From there, the button would light up white when pressed. I went back into the game and it successfully paired.

Apple Watch: Yay or Nay

Posted: 30 Apr 2017 08:48 AM PDT

So right now I can get an Apple Watch at a really good price. My partner has one and she's crushing me on the workout steps when she's on a treadmill. I know I'm not alone when I say that PGo has helped me become more active in order to become the very best, but this extremely wet spring in N.IL has really put a damper on my afternoon activity level.

I've seen the study posts about using it to track steps which get converted to in game km and that's something I've wanted since the beginning (when people thought fans could hatch eggs faster).

I just need people to tell me to spend the money in order to become the very best. Alright, thanks!

Is having multiple accounts bannable?

Posted: 30 Apr 2017 09:05 PM PDT

Last time I posted this it was removed because I just put pictures and posed the question, it was flagged as a witchhunt, but I still would like to know if this is against the rules for Pokémon Go so we'll turn this into story time with fake names.

Imagine a gym that is next to an intersection that is difficult to get to on foot. The traffic from these roads goes very fast so it is a unpleasant place to walk. Now imagine that after a month of the gym being inactive someone takes it over in the middle of the night and the next day there are three players on the gym named "ILikeColorYellow2", "ILikeColorBlue2", and "ILikeColorRed2." These names, as mentioned before, are fake to avoid a witchhunt scenario. However what is important is that they have a color and they have the same number. The trainer icons for each of these match the color in their name as well. People in my area rarely, if ever, get together to fight gyms in groups so the odds of them being in a group are astronomically slim. I strongly believe that this is one person with three accounts, is this a bannable offense?

Edit: Minor Text Fixes

Your worst evolution

Posted: 30 Apr 2017 08:30 PM PDT

What was your worst evolution? The evolution that just made you want to throw your phone.

My first Charizard was 98% IVs. I walked 80km during the Halloween event alone to get it. Got ember/dragon claw. Almost quit the game that day.

Second was my 91% Machop that I had patiently held off on evolving until Gen 2 dropped, hoping the new fighting moves would be good. I already had two Machamp with bullet punch, almost entirely made from eggs. Got double steel moves :-/ Even WITH Pinap berries I'm only 45 candies towards my next Machamp.

[Question] What level are you?

Posted: 30 Apr 2017 08:10 PM PDT

I know the game has been out a year and I've been playing since day one however I took a break during the winter months and now am back at it at level 21. It's discouraging to know how many gyms are level 10 due to being near a huge Pokémon go hot spot and not being able to defeat them. I just wonder what the average level of a player on these forums is now that the games been out awhile.
