True Dota 2 - TI approaches! TrueDoTA2 Competitive Meta Discussion

TI approaches! TrueDoTA2 Competitive Meta Discussion

Posted: 13 Aug 2018 10:23 AM PDT

I've always enjoyed when the knowledgeable Dota minds on this sub analyze the competitive scene, especially because discussion tends to eschew meme-y stuff and instead focuses on why certain teams/players/heroes are strong or weak.

With groups announced today and games starting on Wednesday, I was wondering if folks had any insights on the state of competitive Dota. I have a few questions to start conversation, but feel free to bring up anything I haven't thought of.

  • What heroes will have the biggest impact and why? Seeing some casters predict that, despite the small nerfs of 7.19, Phoenix/CM will be the most heavily picked/banned. What makes them so effective in the current meta?

  • What teams are best positioned to succeed? VP has obviously had a HUGE year, with Liquid and LGD just behind them. Are these teams THAT much better than the opposition or is there something about the current 2-1-2 meta that their lineups are better suited for?

  • How much ho-ho ha-ha will we see? Is the Shrapnel buff strong enough that we'll Sniper every other game?

Again, these are just jumping off points. Any other thoughts on competitive play are welcome!

Hero Specific Differences in game play between high and low MMRs.

What are some hero specific things that you see players do in high mmr games, but not low mmr games.

Not looking for general game play discussions like creep aggro, split pushing, taking objectives, pushing lanes. Although if you can give a specific hero example that would be something I would be interested in.

For example: in 2k - 3k , nature prophets players rarely tp into your base to kill your courier. In 4K i found its common for NP players to have deep wards and tp to kill courier on its way back from delivering items.

Is tiny meta now?

Posted: 13 Aug 2018 02:07 PM PDT

I noticed that in the divine-immortal bracket tiny has a 11% pickrate and a 46% winrate, but in the ancient-crusader bracket he has a 42% below winrate and is picked much less. Can someone explain why is this and whats so good about him?

Monkey king feels strong again

With the current meta being so focused on early laning stage monkey kings 300 range and ridiculous life steal and damage from jingu mastery he seems pretty strong, once he snowballs just BONK BONK BONK SMASH BONK BONK *dead*

Earthshaker Totem

Posted: 12 Aug 2018 10:57 PM PDT

So, earthshaker as a support might be coming back into popularity from what I saw from EG at the summit.

Most shakers fissure block the wave to keep it where they want lane equilibrium. But am I not seeing it personally in games, or shouldnt enchant totem be used to deny every creep?

A core offlaner shaker or support shaker can buy stout and fissure block the wave. But at some point, shouldn't the shaker just enchant totem deny any and every creep?

When shaker was more broken last TI, I rarely saw shaker spam enchant totem to deny farm. In fact, the opposite mindset was there. An offlaner shaker was poor at denying farm because it is mostly a fissure block hero.

But now that kills mean less and denying farm means more, shouldn't enchant totem be a lane winner?

Regional skill brackets

Pretty sure this would have been asked, but any opinions on differences in skill levels for the same tier between different regions, and what would probably be the main reason? I.e. btw SEA vs EU vs NA etc
