So whats the deal with bedrolls in caravans?

Posted: 29 Aug 2018 10:26 PM PDT

Talking about b19 build, is that extra 5-10% rest effectiveness worth it? Bedrolls weight so much, 2.5 kg per one, its real problem if you don't have carry animals.

Boomalope

Posted: 29 Aug 2018 06:34 AM PDT

I just realized Boomalopes produce Chemfuel.

A self tamed Boomalope kinda powered my fridge for the first year on its own.

Thank you Boomalope 1.

Colony Theme: Noah's Ark

Posted: 29 Aug 2018 10:11 AM PDT

I love to do themes. I got this idea from watching Rhadamant on YouTube, whereby the premise is that you create Noah's family (8 colonists) and tame 50 pairs of the available animals in the game, load them into a spaceship called "The Ark" and leave the planet.

Its a great idea, and fun to watch his take on it, but I like to do things a bit differently, so I was thinking about how I could make this more about the challenge of gathering the animals within the time limit and less about the grind of building the ship.

The Hook

So here's what I've come up with. I use the "Blueprints" mod a lot. I pre-built a spaceship with 108 cryosleep caskets, fully kitted out and ready to fly and I exported the blueprint so I can DevMode it into whatever map I want to start with.

The idea is that The Ark already exists, and the challenge will be to gather the requisite animal pairs before the world is destroyed by flood - or Planetkiller in our case. I was thinking 3 years maybe.

Not sure if that's too long, but I need to venture into 6 different biomes to get the animals I need, as well as needing to get lucky with some of the Wild/Farm Animals and "Pet"-type critters. I'm going to start with that as my baseline, anyway. 3 years to get'er'done.

Here's the screenshot of the Ark - I'm going to DevMode in the surrounding walls and "entryway" as the Blueprint mod can't capture a space that large. I will be starting in Temperate Mountains biome. I may have to DevMode out some interfering hills if need be so I can set The Ark down safely.

I'm going to create Noah's family - Noah, his wife Naamah; Noah's sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and their wives; Sede, Nael and Ada, respectively (these are shortened versions of the crazy-long Biblical names). I am going to make them tribals and use both "Tribal Planet" and "Tribal Essential" mods and not allow myself to research above Tribal (yeah, this is gonna be rough, but thematically appropriate I think)

Critters

Here's the master list of animals I need to tame. Obviously the 3 "monster types" (Megascarab, Megaspider, Spelopede) are not included. Also, I've only listed the easiest biomes to fetch the animals from, because why make things harder? You can check the Rimworld Wiki if you want to see the full list.

The Zoo

I need a place to house the animals while I collect them. I know I can just down them and load them into The Ark as I find them, and I may do that, but I like to plan ahead just in case. I'm planning of building a small, walled-off, sheltered farm/barn area that will be protected by the colony.

You can see a full breakdown of everything relating to the animals in-game at the Rimworld Wiki.

I've done this so I know who gets fed what, and so I don't run out of fodder. That would be disastrous.

  • Alphabeavers (Wood)

  • Thrumbo (Plants, Wood)

This should be quite a wild ride. I haven't decided on what kind of colony to build, but I'm thinking a pretty thick-walled fortress is in order lol. I'm going to get raided a lot, and once I fire up the ship engines, its gonna be a rough season. I'm aiming for a Spring Launch, but that may change, as Randy (on Rough) will no doubt have something to say about that!

See you on the Rim!

My first ship escape, 6 year colony 1 day before liftoff

Everytime I hit this Psychic ship it spawns Scythers and unarmed Centipedes and Lancers. Had a little fun with this bug on the latest unstable build.

Traders decided to live here

Posted: 29 Aug 2018 07:29 AM PDT

About a week ago, this group of traders arrived. "Nice" I thought, I made some business and ignored them.

After their third day still here, I started to worry. Now they're still here. They don't have any food anymore (they dropped their pemmican and I took all of it...they didn't say no), they're all starving, over-stressed and insistent on staying here.

A man named Red collapsed, I saved him and sent him on his way. He tried to get out of the map but he was too slow and collapsed again. This happened two times.

They took a liking to a colonist's room and they keep going there to disturb him, even their animals keep doing it. The room is always dirty, the colonist always mad, blocking the door did nothing, help. Their cow is eating my food.

Also, they keep having mental breaks and shoot each other. Nobody died yet but three of them ganged up on the beautiful guy of the group (could they be jealous?) and left him to die. Should I help him? He'd probably die anyway.

How do I send them away without hurting the relationship? (It's the last version and the mods have been deactivated)

0/10 wouldn't have them as guests again.
