Heroes Lounge Season 7 Signups Have Now Opened!

Posted: 28 May 2018 12:31 PM PDT

The European amateur league for Heroes of the Storm opens its doors for its 7th season! To sign up, just head on over to the Heroes Lounge Website. Whether you are a full team, a partial team, or just a free agent, players of all level are welcome to sign up. Sign ups close on midnight ending July 1st before the seaoson officially kicks off on the 16th.

Everything you need to know about signing up for season 7 can be found in our blogpost.

Last season was our largest yet with over 170 teams competing for title of Heroes Lounge playoff winner, currently still underway! We are hoping for season 7 to be even bigger. You can check out the all the important dates on our Schedule Page as well.

If you have never heard about us, or what we do, we are a league for anyone who wants to experience Heroes of the Storm in a competetive setting. If you don't have a full team, or are just an individual who wants to participate, we find a team of players for you that match your ability as best as possible. All of our teams are then seeded into 5 divisions in order to give everyone involved the best possible experience. Each week, each team is given a Bo3 match to play at a time that best suits you. This means that even the busiest schedules can have the chance to play.

If you have never experienced Heroes of the Storm in a team based, competitive setting, I truly recommend you give it a go. As u/khaldor put it, its "Heroes of the Storm, the way its meant to be played".

If you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to ask, and feel free to head on over to our discord for discussions, nice people, and of course Endless. Sloth. Memes.

Hope to see you in season 7!

Unconfirmed Rumour: Tempo Storm playing with Elite AI

Posted: 29 Jun 2018 12:02 PM PDT

You heard it here first folks, Tempo looked high and wide for a replacement, but settled when they looked closer to home at the Elite AI.

With a hero pool of almost exclusively Uther, ETC and Muradin. The elite AI has made plays before and is no stranger to professional play. With notable wins as a sub for NoTomorrow against GFE in 2017 season of hgc, the elite was ready to make a comeback.

When interviewed about this new change in roster all Elite AI had to say was.

"Muradin(AI) is now following TSFan."

We are all excited to see how this changes the meta most likely forcing all Lan phase to a 2-3 rotation, or what new hereos are involved if ETC, Muradin and uther are banned out.

Best of luck to Tempo Storm in the new season. I hope you do find a good fit for your team soon

Core Is Open? ✔; Enemy Team 60s Respawn? ✔

Posted: 29 Jun 2018 01:05 PM PDT

Do you...

  • A) Secure the objective when it's at 0% and wait for cap
  • B) Capture all the camps
  • C) Kill Boss

The answer is none of them, because you push the core and end the game. I promise you the core is not the sun and you are not Icarus.

Unless your name is Icarus, in that case carry on.

Dear Blizzard, PLEASE, release this tint along Jimmy's rework to make that day even greater

Posted: 29 Jun 2018 04:30 PM PDT

Now we just need that Arthas re-model! Then finally, two of the oldest HotS issues will be fixed.

Posted: 29 Jun 2018 08:08 AM PDT

Now that Jimmy is getting his re-work, maybe we can finally get an Arthas model where he isn't a stumpy dwarf with a big nose that wields a Chinese knockoff toy sword without runes?

A real Lich King?

A man can dream.

[Statistics] After saving up 250 common Loot Chests, here are the numbers

Posted: 29 Jun 2018 12:11 PM PDT

These are the stats I got from keeping track of opening 1000 items.

192 Voice Lines (Common)
185 Common Portraits
156 Emojis (Common)
131 Common Sprays
127 Rare Skins
39 Epic Skins
34 Rare Sprays
33 Common Banners
28 Shards x20 (Common)
14 Rare Portraits
11 Rare Banners
9 Shards x50 (Rare)
8 Legendary Skins
6 3-Day Stimpacks (Rare)
6 Epic Announcers
4 Legendary Mounts
3 1-Day Stimpacks (Common)
3 Rare Mounts
3 Rare Heroes
3 Epic Mounts
2 Legendary Announcers
1 Epic Spray
1 Epic Hero
1 Legendary Hero

There doesn't appear to be any weighing on the drop chance (or it's pretty much unnoticeable). The drop rates matched the expected chance reasonably closely, considering the relatively small sample size. For example, there are 1120 common items, 284 of which are sprays (so about 25%), and around 25% of the commons I got ended up being sprays.

There are 35 different rarity combinations that a loot chest can have, of which I got 10.
[C] = Common, [R] = Rare, [E] = Epic, [L] = Legendary

20.4% [C] [C] [C] [C] (51)
41.2% [R] [C] [C] [C] (103)
13.2% [R] [R] [C] [C] (33)
8.8% [E] [C] [C] [C] (22)
9.6% [E] [R] [C] [C] (24)
0.8% [E] [R] [R] [C] (2)
2.4% [L] [C] [C] [C] (6)
2.4% [L] [R] [C] [C] (6)
0.4% [L] [R] [R] [C] (1)
0.8% [L] [E] [R] [C] (2)

While I've had loot chests with no commons in the past, I didn't manage to find any this time, so they're probably fairly rare.

Chance for a loot chest to contain a(n)
Common: >99.6%
Rare: 68.4%
Epic: 20%
Legendary: 6%

And finally, here are the chances for any given item to be contained in a loot chest (expected chance is in parentheses):

Rare Skin 41.97\% (48.73\%)
Voice Line 26.37\% (35.27\%)
Common Portrait 25.41\% (25.36\%)
Emoji 21.43\% (18.04\%)
Common Spray 17.99\% (17.95\%)
Epic Skin 15.6\% (14.12\%)
Rare Spray 11.23\% (8.29\%)
Rare Portrait 4.63\% (5.29\%)
Common Banner 4.53\% (3.39\%)
20 Shards 3.85\% (n/a)
Rare Banner 3.63\% (3.59\%)
Legendary Skin 3.2\% (3.56\%)
50 Shards 2.97\% (n/a)
Epic Announcer 2.4\% (1.46\%)
3-Day Stimpack 1.98\% (n/a)
Legendary Mount 1.6\% (1.25\%)
Epic Mount 1.2\% (2.21\%)
Rare Mount 0.99\% (1.7\%)
Rare Hero 0.99\% (0.8\%)
Legendary Announcer 0.8\% (0.29\%)
1-Day Stimpack 0.41\% (n/a)
Epic Spray 0.4\% (0.56\%)
Epic Hero 0.4\% (1.65\%)
Legendary Hero 0.4\% (0.91\%)

(As a small note, the expected chance for commons and rares is slightly too high, due to Stimpacks and Shards sharing a portion of it. Also, if weight scaling is not a thing, the chance in parentheses is the more accurate value, and the difference is mainly caused by the small sample size.)

TL;DR tidbits

  • The chance of getting a legendary hero from a loot chest is a bit under 1%.
  • 20% of loot chests contain 4 commons.
  • Getting a quadruple rare is over 10 times rarer than getting a legendary.
  • Over 40% of loot chests contain 1 rare and 3 commons.
  • A loot chest contains at least 1 common, more than 99.5% of the time.
  • The chance for a loot chest to contain at least 1 legendary is 6%.
  • (Past level ~500), you get an average of 40 shards per loot chest, even without rerolling; earning you a legendary crafted item every 40 levels or so.
  • If you only ever got duplicates, you'd get an average of 75 shards per loot chest.

With Raynor finally getting his rework, I propose a new hero that needs to be adressed as much as he was, or even more.

Posted: 29 Jun 2018 06:41 AM PDT

Blizzard, we need a rework on the Lost Vikings. Their only major update was close after their release, 3 years ago, and since then they didn't get any significant update. In those 3 years, the game evolved a lot and the usefullness of the Vikings decreased a lot, specially considering how outdated they look. Just a reminder for players who haven't played the Vikings for a long time or never played them, but:

- The Vikings don't have a single baseline ability. All of their basic abilities are obtained with talents.

- A lot of their talents are outdated, but if it was only that, it wouldn't be that problematic. The problem with the talent tree of the Lost Vikings is that some talents are significantly more popular and win significantly more often than others. At level 1, [[Viking Bribery]] has a 72% pickrate for a 52% winrate. That's 54% more popular and 7% higher in term of winrate that the second best talent at this tier, [[Explosive Attacks]]. Same problem at level 4 with [[Mercenary Lord]], at level 7 with [[Spin To Win!]], etc...

-Currently, the Lost Vikings have only one good heroic ability. I see people joking about how bad [[Rain of Destruction]] is and that it's the worst heroic, but have you even seen [[Longboat Raid!]]? The difference between it and [[Play Again!]] is astronomical! Play Again has a 82% pickrate and a 52% winrate, which is 15% higher than Longboat in term of winrate.

The stats have been taken from HotsLogs, in Hero League, on all league, all maps, and since the week of the 18th of March.

-Other than that, The Lost Vikings is the hero who hasn't got a single skin in the longest time. They were released more than 3 years ago, before even the release of the game, and was presented at Blizzcon 2014. They were presented at the same time has Jaina and Thrall, and the new map, Sky Temple (feeling old yet?). In that time, since their release, Thrall got 4 new skin (or tints) with 3 being legendaries and Jaina got 11 skin/tints, 5 being legendaries.

-Lost Vikings also don't have much cosmetics, their only cosmetics recieved after 2.0 are a spray in the first summer event, 2 carbot spray (one being animated) and a carbot portrait. So technically Carbot has done more cosmetics, if not as much, for the Lost Vikings than Blizzard.

I think it's time for Blizzard and us to aknowledge the Lost Vikings has a potentially fun hero that just need to be found and loved.

EVERYONE, LET'S FIND THE LOST VIKINGS!

When the upcoming Raynor rework goes live, Scouting Drone will no longer be in Heroes of the Storm

Posted: 29 Jun 2018 12:37 AM PDT

Last removed from Malfurion in the January 9th 2018 patch, Jim Raynor is the last hero to have Scouting Drone as a talent choice. In the Raynor rework the talent has been removed.

Guys, we are running out of memes in HOTS.

Posted: 29 Jun 2018 03:10 AM PDT

With the next Raynor rework, we are facing a severe shortage of meme in our game. Lately, even IGN couldn't help but destroy our treasured 6.5 meme with a new review for the game and now Raynor lane minion Rework has further undermined the situation. A lot of previous memes have already been dismantled like "Kel'thuzad Archlich of Naxxramas, esteemed Lich Lord of the..." or OW heroes OP getting repeatedly nerfed and normalized with balance patches. On top of that, a lot of big names have made their ways in the game like Fenix, Malth, Deckard the walking meme, Maiev, Garrosh, Stukov... Right now, the only shining stars remains in our diminishing HOTS meme collection are "Deathwing when" and "Chen nerfs". The community needs to step up and provide more "high quality" content.

PS: hamster when, Blizz??? REEEEEEEEE.

Edit: forgot Arthas model, 323 and janitor Leoric, those are an important part of HOTS history. Also didn't want to poke fun of a certain major region given how much better they've performed at MSB Kappa.

June 27th, 2018 Patch - 48 Hours Later

Posted: 29 Jun 2018 01:45 PM PDT

Before you nerf Malfurion's numbers, Blizz ...

Posted: 29 Jun 2018 10:39 AM PDT

Just a general plea to Blizzard that before you look at nerfing Malfurion's numbers (as is often the case with overperforming heroes in the higher tier play), maybe consider just starting with getting rid of Ice Block and seeing how things shake out.

I love Malfurion and he's easily my main healer, but I love him just as much for his lore as his abilities so it's nice seeing him around (unlike his brother who I guess is back in that prison ... Maiev got em?).

Ice Block is probably the biggest thing keeping him from being dived upon. The speed he gets at lvl 1 obviously helps as well but before any more nerfs to his healing or utility take a hit, I'd just suggest getting rid of this one talent that isn't even thematically relevant anyway.

He's currently a dominant force in the pro scene and sees good results for the rest of us mortals, but I'd just hate for him to get the treatment of continuing to nerf the wrong things, then nerfing the right thing to see his numbers lower but not going back to fix what didn't need to be taken away (looking at you self cast Rehgar Ancestral ...)

If voting on MVP screen gave exp, would you be happy with that?

Posted: 29 Jun 2018 06:37 AM PDT

Played some games on the new patch in Overwatch and noticed that the new endorsement system grants you small about of experience when you endorse someone. That reminded me of all those times we had "give triangles for voting on MVP screen" and got me wondering if exp would be a good enough compromise. Keep in mind, endorsements are not the same thing as voting on the MVP screen, that's a whole different thing, but granting bit of exp points could be a way to make some people actually vote for anyone.

A Suggetion on Health Regen Stats in Patch Notes

Posted: 29 Jun 2018 07:53 AM PDT

Most heroes are designed so that they regenerate to full health in 480 seconds. (Murky is an exception; there may be a few others. Talents like regen master obviously effect this, too.) Whenever Blizzard changes a hero's health, the regen value also changes so that this rate remains the same. That's the reason you always see health regen changing in patch notes when health changes.

I suspect many people don't understand that these values (base health and regen) are directly linked by the health÷480 formula and think Blizzard is tinkering with each independently. An example from Johanna's changes this week:

  • Health increased from 2,540 to 2,700.
  • Health Regeneration increased from 5.289 to 5.625.

When a hero is nerfed instead of buffed, it can feel like a double hit. "Oh, they're nerfing ___'s health AND regen? Wtf." Really, though, regen is just changing because health is. If you do the math (2540 ÷ 5.289, 2700 ÷ 5.625), you see that it's just to keep it at 480 seconds for a full bar, but most people don't know this. I think this is a case where providing more information actually leads to confusion.

My suggestion would be to leave out the regen change entirely and just note the new health value, or maybe say something like "health regen adjusted accordingly."

There's no particular reason to call out the discrete regen stat unless it's going to break the 480 second rule, in which case it should have its own line anyway. People can look up the regen stat or calculate it if needed. If it's important for another reason, at least put it on the same line as health, not a separate bullet point, which would help communicate the numbers are linked.
