| Posted: 17 Feb 2018 01:17 PM PST I'm on a friendly Dota 2 team which happens to be full of killers. I am, by an order of magnitude, the least experienced and skilled player. They are nice about my lack of experience, but I don't want to hold them back in the games I play. I want to be realistic: I know I'm probably not going to be leading the team into victory with top-tier play any time soon, but I also really don't want to throw any games for them. I want to help the best I can. How can I best pull my weight? Are there roles and characters in experienced teams which are better for newer players, etc? All advice and help is welcome! | Where to find player perspective videos of smurfs playing? Posted: 17 Feb 2018 07:14 PM PST Ancient 1 offlane player here. I wanna see how high skill players play against Ancient-level players, so I can make those same plays. When top players play in their own bracket, they don't make those same plays that I can make in ancient. Anyone know where I can find some VODs or replays? [link] [comments] |

| Why does Earthshaker almost never buy strength stats? Posted: 17 Feb 2018 05:47 AM PST I understand that he's almost always played as a utility/initiator position 3 or 4. Blink/shadowblade make perfect sense. However, it's strange to me that enchant totem is based on his strength, but almost no top player buys strength stats unless it's an upgrade to silveredge or the game goes super late. | Does anyone have tips for an experienced, yet new player? Posted: 17 Feb 2018 06:44 PM PST Been playing Heroes of Newerth (which is the MOBA most similar to DotA) for 8 years and I recently made the switch over to DotA. I'm not very good yet, as I'm still learning everything and getting used to the slower gameplay, wards pots, jungle, etc. Right now I'm just reading everything. Trying out every hero in the demo mode to see what they're all about. In any case, I would appreciate some tips if you guys have any :) [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 17 Feb 2018 05:36 PM PST I remember BSJ saying that MOM is a terrible item on Void. (That was his opinion, at least) Does anyone know why he thinks like this and when I should pick Vlads over MOM? [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 17 Feb 2018 12:34 PM PST So I came back to this game after TI3. I'm older now and can better deal with the emotional abuse. Anyway, I started ranked for the first time and placed into 2250. 50 games in I'm at 500 mmr even though my winrate can be no worse than 40%, weird but whatever. My question is twofold: I'm wondering if it's worth for me to be using 'free win' heroes like Viper or Spirit Breaker in this low MMR bracket if it means I'll be artificially inflating it by using crutch heroes who I don't even enjoy. And by the opposite token: is it worth for me to learn the 'hard' heroes like Arc Warden, Earth Spirit, or Shadow Demon? Will I be winning more by mastering these relative unknowns in low MMR or will I just be doing more work for no benefit? I'm having trouble balancing these two ideas because I know that I can achieve very strong starts and wins if I play the likes of Viper who can get 5 kills by 10 minutes reliably, but I don't enjoy playing them and want to play some of the more complex heroes. I hope this is written well enough. What do you think? I'm looking to get at least up to Crusader. [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 17 Feb 2018 04:04 PM PST I was looking in Dotabuff and I found this guy. Is this even possible? Is a boosted account? Do you guys recommend me to check his/her matches in order to improve my game? [link] [comments] |
| Any site with statistics on mid matchups Posted: 17 Feb 2018 12:17 PM PST I know sites like dotabuff have heroes winrates versus other heroes but is there any way to get statistics on mid matchups and what the winrate for the lane (won lane/drew lane/lost lane) Idk about opendota but i know dotabuff keeps track of which lanes were won and lost in the games it analyses so this info must be available somewhere. It would just be a good quick reference when learning a new mid hero what lane matchups are good and bad. [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 17 Feb 2018 03:21 PM PST A while ago, I made a post here about offlane Omniknight. I've since spammed him with great success. (3.5-3.7k) I've pretty much settled on the standard build - Phase, Soul Ring, Drums, Euls, Force. Late game is a little more open, and I buy items depending on what heroes I'm up against. Pipe, Halberd, Solar, Shivas, Lotus, and so on. Up until my last two games I've had no trouble whatsoever turning a succesful laning phase into mid game domination into breaching high ground. It usually goes like this - chill until level 2 or 3, then beat the shit out of the carry when the supports leave. As soon as I have Drums, I start taking towers with my team to secure map control. From there it's just picking our fights and finding pickoffs until we can take rax. So now the two games that didn't go well... Game 1In this game, however, my laning phase wasn't as succesful - Repel doesn't do much to prevent you from being trapped in Tusk's Shards, and I fed AM a few kills as a result. However, the enemies had a jungling Bloodseeker and a Prophet that ganked non stop, so my TB had a completely free lane. You'd expect that he'd take the tower and apply some pressure on that side of the map so my OD can get some space, but instead I watched the moron lose half his hp to stacks while the tower has take maybe 100 dmg. We took a total of 0 towers that game, my OD got butt fucked mid resulting in him having disgustingly low farm, far lower than me. He was also extremely behind in levels. Things I can improve on this game - buy or ask for a ward so I don't die to Tusk for no good reason, keep a tp handy so I can assist the OD mid with Repel (although that's a tricky one if I have literally 0 mana from trading with AM all the time), and I need to evaluate if farming a few jungle camps is worth my time, and if I should instead try to force an objective or initiate a smoke gank. Things I wanted my team to do - push that fucking tower, you fuckng shit TB, don't pick OD into Sniper for fuck's sake, that was even a first pick Sniper you 2k shit, plant jungle wards to kill BS. Game 2In this game I had a fantastic lane. Textbook offlane Omniknight stuff. Make the supports regret coming to the lane at all, then make the carry bitch about his supports leaving by paving his face with your hammer. I had about 40cs at 10 mins and was involved in a kill or two, so I had my drums and I took the safe lane tower with my team. We then rotated mid, got more kills, took another tower. Top tower was already down, so we spread out, found a few more kills and finished a few items, then grouped up again to start taking tier twos. We got them all, but when we tried to break high ground, we were met with hooks and dragon slaves and sleights and lagunas and acid spray and a Storm zipping by to kill our waves, and we decided to do Rosh instead. Got Aegis, and we went again, failed again. We ended up taking two tier threes but no rax - closest we came was getting the melee rax to 12%. My Tiny admitted later that he was guilty of not hitting the rax as I had shouted many times. We spent the rest of the game chasing some split pushing cunts, picking them off when we had detection, and getting picked off ourselves. The reality was that we couldn't fight them all at once, and if weren't gang banging one hero alone then we could hardly kill anyone. Things I could've done better - Lotus or Force over Orchid so I can protect my carry that's taking high ground? I don't know how much this would've mattered, as both my cores, Tiny and SF, were magic dmg nukers and not physical dps heroes. I don't think the Orchid was bad, as it secured us quite a few kills, but I could've farmed it faster. I tend to stop farming once I exit the laning stage. I should've forgone Euls for a Force or a Ghost or an early Lotus. Maybe an Aeon Disk would've been good this game. Things I feel my team shoudl've done - what a fucking pussy this SF was, wouldn't blink euls requiem someone if they weren't afk and begging for it, just look at his dmg - 23.9k versus 22.6k by an Omni, fucking pitiful, Tiny should've gotten SB only, not blink, and built SnY, BKB, butterfly, etc, so he hit towers while I protect him. Perhaps a different hero altogether would've been better, a more dps hero since we already had all the burst we could want. And this fucking Mirana man. He did well early game, but then he might as well have gone afk for all the impact he had after. Didn't push lanes, didn't make a difference in high ground pushes since he dies in two hits and didn't land any MLG arrows. Don't pick Mirana. Stupid heroes don't win. Right, so that's my rant. If anybody can provide some further insight or advice or open my eyes to what a shitter I actually am, please do so. I'm eager to learn. [link] [comments] |

| When to gank/push offlane as safelane support Posted: 17 Feb 2018 08:15 AM PST Hey guys, I dont know wether this question makes any sense, but here it is. Right now i play cm/rubick/lion/ss. All are easy capable of ganking mid min 4. This rhythm is kind of automatic in my thoughts, if safelane is fine at that moment. Usually i go back to safelane, maybe stack on the way back. All depends on the game. After that catapult min 5, getting maybe safelane tower usw. Is there a no brain timing-situation like that at which i should go to the offlane? (Except they dive tower ofc) Are my thoughts of playing correct? [link] [comments] |
| Requesting tips for support Visage Posted: 17 Feb 2018 10:11 AM PST Sup guys, I was recently thinking of playing Visage and sadly I've never played this hero a bunch of times but would love to get better at it. Firstly, what are the best paths to take in terms of skill builds/itemization? Is Visage played like a standard position 4/5 or do you have to focus on being a bit greedier with your familiars? With the release of 7.09, it seems like stacking has become even more important, what's the easiest way to stack a bunch of camps all at once for efficiency? What about at night? (Any micro tips would be appreciated as I don't play these types of heroes often, I remember a method where people would stack like 4/5 camps with Naga but not too sure on that with Visage) That's most of the questions I had in mind, if you could provide any more tips it would be perfect. Thank you to anyone who reads and answers this! Dotabuff link with a recent match I had with Visage: https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/3729816266 [link] [comments] |
| When do i go mjollnir and crit on Medusa? Posted: 17 Feb 2018 01:44 PM PST So I have been playing a good amount of medusa games lately and I am mostly going for MoM, Dragon Lance into Skadi and bf. | How does one decide their ingame role? Posted: 17 Feb 2018 01:28 PM PST Title. My friend I just got to play Doto recently is new to MOBAs, and she dozont know what hero to pick. She has played 1-2 matches of LOL before (Miss Fortune probabli) so all she knows is "ADC". I got her to play WR (my fav hero :D) and she liked it, but since I talked to her about how heroes can be countered and all, she now wants to be versatile and learn an entire role instead of a single hero. I mean, she loved Windrunner but she also loves heroes of other roles; especially Akasha, Kunkka and Puck. She's anxious during all of our Doto matches now, and I need your help, Mr/Mrs r/learndota2 members. How can I get that h0e to select a role? Or find a role that suits her? Thanks in advance! P.S. Asking for frend)) [link] [comments] |

| How do you stop playing passive in lane? Posted: 17 Feb 2018 11:33 AM PST I've realized why I suck so much. Every game I play ends up being the same pretty much. I go to the lane, end up getting weak from the other laner and have to sit under tower, losing farm. Obviously I fall behind quite a bit. Once it's about 12 minutes in, I'm behind in gold and levels. Fights start happening and I don't do anything because I'm so underfarmed. It's pretty much over at that point. Sometimes I'll hit a useful stun, or do something that helps out the team, but mostly it comes down to if my friends (2,400 hours, versus 50 for me) can carry us to a win. I always end up with the least damage by a wide margin and typically like 2 kills and 10 deaths. I played a game yesterday that went on for 45 minutes and I had 5,000 damage... So I know my problem, but I don't know how to fix it. I'm always nervous about dying early on and afraid of taking too much damage. What do I do? [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 17 Feb 2018 05:18 AM PST I'm very new to playing position 3. When I started playing i always found myself playing 1 or 2 (cause you know, we all suck and only wanna carry), then I later transitioned to support as time went by (both 4 and 5) One thing though, is that i never got to understand and learn the 3 position, and what actually defines the position. Some feed back would really be appreciated _^ [link] [comments] |
| In about 90 minutes, I will be available to watch replays and answer questions Posted: 17 Feb 2018 01:48 AM PST I'll hop on my twitch.tv/Rivinx and answer anything I can for you guys. I typically try to help people under 2k climb mmr and I can clear up any misconceptions you might have. Edit: Stream is concluded for now. I'll be back on sometime this evening/night for more free coaching. [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 17 Feb 2018 08:55 AM PST I recently tried to learn the carry position. Usually i play most of my games as a support, but i thought if i want to progress as a player i need to learn more roles. So here i am trying to understand the carry role. So a problem i have is the support mindset i developed over time. This means for example:
Overall my mindset is still very supportish. What do i need to change to become a better carry player? A friend of mine told me jokingly: "just think like a douche". Although i know this statement isn't to be taken 100% seriously, i think maybe there is some kind of truth in there (especially when you switch from support). For example: "killsteals" in the earlygame: Most carry players are a bit upset when you get the lasthit on a kill. But when i'm playing carry i'm like whatever. he is dead. Is it really important to get all the early kills as a carry?
What are your thoughts about this? [link] [comments] |
