Posted: 06 Feb 2018 01:33 PM PST Account Security Bulletin A number of accounts have recently been compromised using well-known hacking techniques. Epic Security is providing this bulletin to explain what's happening and how to best secure your Epic account and other accounts. Shared Passwords Though it's common to use the same password across multiple Internet sites, this is a dangerous practice and should be avoided. If one of those sites is compromised, hackers can use your email and password from that site to break into your account on other sites using the same password. Here's what happens: Attackers frequently download password dumps - lists of username/password combinations -from third party sites and use credential stuffing to find out what other websites those credentials work on. When they are successful at logging in to those accounts, they see what trouble they can create for the account holder. In many cases, that appears as fraudulent V-Buck purchases. Fake Fortnite Offers We've seen several instances of account theft and fraud related to websites that claim to provide you free V-Bucks or the ability to share or buy accounts. Please never share your Epic account details with anyone. Epic will never ask you for your password through email, social media, or a non-Epic website. Groups claiming to provide special Fortnite deals this way are fraudulent. How Do I Know If I'm At Risk? There is a fantastic web service (Have I Been Pwned) that will let you search your email address and determine if it has been part of any data breaches. If it has, you should assume that the password associated with that service is public knowledge and change all accounts that use it (not just your Epic account!). Even if your account information hasn't been publicly identified as leaked, it's possible that it may be leaked in the future, so there are steps that you can do to help protect yourself against that. You can start by signing up for the Have I Been Pwned notification service so you're immediately alerted if your email is ever included in future dumps. What Are We Doing To Help? At Epic, we've been working hard to try to hunt down password dumps in order to proactively reset passwords for player accounts when we believe they are leaked online. While this approach involves a lot of manual work on our side, we believe that it prevents a significant amount of fraud. However, this approach doesn't find every impacted account, or you might have created your Epic account after we checked a particular password dump. As a result, we're working to further automate our process to check our account database against password dumps to close the gap on identifying impacted users and resetting their passwords. We're also working hard to enable multi-factor authentication in the next few weeks and plan to have an additional blog post with more details soon. Use Unique Passwords We recommend using unique passwords as a way to protect yourself from credential stuffing attacks. Having a unique password for every service will guarantee that one compromised account won't lead to everything you own being stolen. Of course, it can be hard to remember so many different passwords. Consider using a password manager to help. Using a password manager, you can generate a unique password for every service and only remember a single strong password (for the password manager). Link Your Social Accounts For Extra Security Recently, we rolled out support to integrate Facebook and Google logins with our Epic account system. This provides you several advantages. First, you can log in without needing to use your Epic password, as long as you're actively logged in to Facebook or Google on your browser. You'll receive a login prompt asking you to authorize the activity and then will be let straight in. Second, you can always use these login methods to regain access to the account in the event that it is locked due to invalid passwords. Due to the additional security measures provided through Google and Facebook login, you can set correspondingly more secure passwords for your Epic account and then not worry about using them due to the pass-through authentication with Google and Facebook. Install And Update Antivirus While antivirus and antimalware products won't solve every problem, they will help keep your computer safe from a lot of threats. Epic doesn't endorse any particular product, but you can view a list of options here along with the various features of each. Keeping your computer clean of unwanted software will again minimize the number of ways your account can be compromised. Keep Your Computer Up To Date You should always keep your operating system, installed software, and drivers as up to date as possible. Small bugs from outdated drivers or software can result in performance issues or other game stability issues while missed security updates could compromise your entire computer. Epic always recommends updating to the latest secure versions of software and operating systems. Don't Trust Shared Systems Logging in from a shared computer (cyber cafes, libraries, a friend's house, etc.), introduces additional risk. Only log in on shared systems controlled by people you trust. Just by logging into your account on a shared system, your credentials could be stolen and you have no real insight into how secure those machines are. If you've used an untrusted shared machine in the past, we recommend changing your password to ensure that it's not compromised. If you play on a shared machine on a regular basis, it is critical that you use a unique password for your Epic account and make sure to log out of the launcher when finished each time. Enable Multi-factor Authentication When Possible Epic's account doesn't yet support multi-factor authentication, but we're working to implement it as quickly as we can. We're sorry this hasn't come online sooner, and we'll have an update on the status of this within the next two weeks. Multi-factor Authentication helps keep your account secure by requiring more than just a password. We recommend enabling it on every service you can. This site will let you review different services and see which support it. Don't Share Accounts While sometimes you might struggle to complete that quest and would love for a friend or family member to help, we encourage you not to share your account information with others. Any actions committed on your account are your responsibility. If someone cheats on your account and it is banned, it is your responsibility as the account holder. Don't Buy Accounts Sometimes, people get tired of a game and want to quit - and would like to get something for the time they've invested in the game. As a result, they'll list their accounts online. While you might be tempted to purchase one and gain access to the sweet skins they have, please don't. As the original account creator, they are likely in possession of significant facts that may enable them to recover the account through our Player Support process (such as transaction history, address history, etc.) by claiming you stole the account. There's No Such Thing As A Free V-Buck We've seen the sites online, just like you. Click here, put in your username, maybe answer a survey question or two, and you'll get as many free V-Bucks as you'd like. Those sites aren't real. They want you to enter your account credentials into their page (enabling them to log in as you and create fraudulent charges) or else encourage you to click down a chain of advertising referrals, getting click-through advertising money for the person running the site. Under no circumstances are those sites able to actually grant V-Bucks. Our legal team is constantly prowling to hunt down those sites. If you've tried one of them in the past, we encourage you to change your password as soon as possible. Verify Email Address While it is currently optional, we ask that you please verify your e-mail address associated with your Epic account. This will help protect your account when we implement multi-factor authentication and make it easier for Player Support to contact you in the event of any anomalous activity with your account. Player Support Details Need additional help? Our Player Support team is here for you. We have a Fortnite Help Portal with answers to many of your questions. If there's anything where you feel we need to clarify further or something else you'd like assistance with, feel free to e-mail in a request. This will eventually live on our blog as its own post, but will take time to run through localization and we wanted to get this out to you as soon as possible. Just got Save The World, and wow! Posted: 06 Feb 2018 03:37 PM PST As someone who started with BR and got this for V-buck purposes, I am glad I did it. I enjoy this at time more than I enjoy BR. There is an entire element of weapon durability and crafting I was happy to see. I still look at the Skill Tree and get a little overwhelmed. This was the best money I have ever spent! Thank you so much Epic for such an amazing game! [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Feb 2018 10:32 AM PST I switch a a lot between my active heroes, both the main and support ones. This can feel unintuitive and cumbersome sometimes. Since some tactical/support perk are not usable by every class, you can't avoid this problem really. Why not make it easier to switch around on our heroes? A simple editable loadout system. It may be 4 or more, with custom naming, class specific loadouts or simply just 1,2,3,4. So you can quickly toggle between your favourite setups. Maybe add the gadgets too. Hell, even throw the defenders in there if you want. Up to epic about the details. TLDR; make it quicker to change between favorite set-ups. Bible of fortnite for any new STW players Posted: 06 Feb 2018 11:30 AM PST Very useful information in here and haven't seen it posted in a while. FYI - For Weapons Trading (Stop those scammers) Posted: 06 Feb 2018 12:55 PM PST Lost of posts here and ingame chat about weapon scammers trading so I thought I'd post here to help. http://www.stormshield.one/pve Search a player profile, then add /SCH to the URL to see all their schematics. You can see if someone even has something worth trading beforehand. Dont drop all your guns / craft them brand new ones, at best swap 1 at a time. Good luck and have fun! Death to scammers! Twine Peaks SSD Spawn Map (Incomplete) Posted: 06 Feb 2018 11:53 AM PST Hello everyone, some around here may know me as Dash_Brandon. First of all, this is my first actual post on Reddit so if I have messed something up please let me know. I have made a map for the Twine Peaks SSD spawn locations. Link: https://imgur.com/tJav2D3 It isn't as snazzy as the one for Canny that was posted months ago but I am hoping it helps some people out. The one ? mark is one that I haven't seen an attack from but it definitely looks like it could be an avenue of attack. If anyone has additional spawn info I can update the picture as needed. Thank you all for looking and if you would like to find me on YouTube feel free, I am a teeny tiny STW creator that has started streaming as of late as well. Now let's get out there and Save The World! [link] [comments]

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 08:58 PM PST I'm writing this post to let Epic know that soon the research cap is going to be met and we're gonna need something more useful to use our research points on. I currently am missing 45 more nodes on the last tree. I earn points at 163 per hour; usually everyday I unlock one point on my tree. This will be an estimate of 1 node per day; so in 45 days I will be done with this time gate. I have a few recommendations for which we can use research in:
Just letting you know early Epic so you can address the problem when it gets here rather than later. [link] [comments]
Can we get a hero that has a tactical/support that increases the base connectivity? Posted: 06 Feb 2018 03:40 PM PST I like the other constructors like BASE Hype or Hotfixer but their BASE just doesn't compare to Power BASE or MegaBASE. I would use the other constructors a lot more if I could increase their BASE size with a support slot. This game needs! A materials increase Posted: 06 Feb 2018 02:21 AM PST
Posted: 06 Feb 2018 04:32 PM PST Consoles are especially prone to having a plethora of friends in lieu of having to add them just to join their SSDs, but I think this would be helpful across the board. A small box limited to even 50 characters would be plenty. Too many people have too many friends they don't remember the origin of, if their skill level is adequate for say needs of avoiding propane shooting in their SSDs etc. This would be a fantastic quality of life increase [link] [comments]

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 05:05 PM PST I just got to Twine Peaks last night and seeing all the cool new stuff on the stormbase map (poorly textured lava, lava bombs, ocean water, palm trees, etc) made me feel a bit disheartened. It's becoming a real struggle to play the same looking missions over and over but with so many stability problems it feels as though this won't be address ever. Do you guys think it will ever be a thing? [link] [comments]
Plasma Pulse was actually nerfed Posted: 06 Feb 2018 09:35 PM PST Hey guys, Whitesushi here and I have seen quite a few posts actually talking about this, specifically on "how much it has been buffed" and "how good it is" so today, I'm going to provide the numbers on what this Plasma Pulse change entails. Before we jump in, here's a link to my spreadsheet which has some more in-depth information on game mechanics and etc which you might find useful. Anyway, here's what the patch notes say
So I'm not sure if you guys are aware but you actually derive the base damage values of your abilities by taking your current damage and factoring in your hero ability damage, tech, support bonuses etc.
The table reflects the new base damage of Plasma Pulse which is 14, nerfed from 80 which was our previous number (yes, this number is accurate). We also know that the rate of fire was increased and if we look at the in-game tooltip, we see that it has been increased to a proc every 0.125s up from its original 0.5s. Here's a table to summarize the plasma pulse numbers
Of course, our work here isn't done yet We proceed to find out the damage per second of this ability which is to simply take number of procs in 1 second multiplied by the damage per proc. In a formula, it looks like Adding onto our previous table, the DPS variation will be
As you can see, the overall DPS of the skill actually took a huge nerf of 160 / 112 - 1 = 42.9%. On the surface, this isn't even close to what was stated in the patch notes being "balanced". However, we also need to examine if this reduced downtime can actually be more beneficial compared to the DPS loss. Theorycrafting from this point onwardsTo do this, we need to know the behaviour of Plasma Pulse. I actually went ahead to test this and found out that Plasma Pulse fires off 8 shots per cycle in a counter-clockwise motion.
For the old Plasma Pulse to complete 1 cycle, it would take 4s whereas the new Plasma Pulse would take 1s. Now imagine a Husk walking through the Plasma Field as seen in this image. To make things simpler, we assume he's walking in a perfect straight line so he's only going to get hit on the tiles highlighted in red. First, we need to know when the plasma pulse shots are going to land in those spaces. Here's a table for that
Next, we need to know how many times he's going to get hit but we don't know how fast he moves. As such, I'll simply make a table covering
As you guys can see, even though the new Plasma Pulse is able to land more hits on the husk generally, it's damage is severely outweighed by the old Plasma Pulse even if it is only able to land a single hit. FurthermoreWhat if the husk is stationary? This is pretty common when husks are pushing against a wall or attracted by a dummy. Using the same image as above, we assume the new husk standing only in a single tile for the full duration of the Plasma Pulse (10 seconds).
Regardless, we can see that the New PP still ends up with lesser damage although in this scenario, it seems pretty close. ConclusionSo why does the skill feel so much better in practice, as though it is actually good? I suspect this is due to the placebo effect
which of course isn't really a "treatment" but rather exists in the form of the patch notes. But hey, that's just a ... On a serious note, there are a lot of factors to consider when in actual field scenarios such as
and many others. That being said, it has been a while since I did a post like this, mainly because there hasn't really been much new mechanics introduced to the game lately. However if you guys would like a post similar to this where I just theorycraft the sheep out of something, do suggest below. Otherwise, the next "thing" I want to look into should be Fragment Flurry Jess's support bonus TL;DR Plasma Pulse got NERFED [link] [comments]

However, I feel a bit lost. I'd really like to dig deeper into STW and get the full fortnight experience. Epic has made such a unique and creative game and I want to get as much out of it as possible. So from a person who really wants to get into STW... what do you wish you knew when you first started? Can we Get Mouse sensitivity option for ps4 pro? Posted: 06 Feb 2018 01:30 PM PST I bought a G910 keyboard and mouse for Paragon. And in there in mouse supported also and has a mouse sensitivity option for ps4 pro. And because Fortnite boarderline made my game dead I need to make use of my mouse and keyboard still. So please add a mouse sensitivity option for ps4/ps4 pro it makes no sense to allow binding/Ads/Scope sensitivity but not allow general mouse sensitivity. Also add a mouse cursor for ps4 as well because I cant edit my inventory or easily click start game on mouse. I have to keep my controller next to me to make these small changes.. Please help! How would you guys feel about a raid-type experience? Posted: 06 Feb 2018 01:25 PM PST I've been playing the game for a while now. I've made quite a few friends here and I look forward to a couple hours of good grind with them every day after work. For me, the game has been steadily improving since I first started playing. One of the biggest gripes I had with Fortnite -the rng lootbox system- was greatly alleviated with the event store. Now, I don't even mind grinding Stonewood with low level buddies - I always get something useful out of every mission. So before I go into the actual point of this post, I'd like to give a shoutout to Epic for making such a unique and enjoyable experience. You da best Before I go into what I mean by "raid", I want to point out what made me think of this in the first place. I've always wondered what we were retrieving in Retrieve the Data missions. According to Ray, the data we collect will help locate survivors in the storm. I know we already have Rescue Survivor missions, but wouldn't it be cool if the data/coordinates we collect during Retrieve missions lead us into a special rescue mission? This mission should be challenging. Imagine this, Ray finds a large group of survivors thanks to the data you collected. But they're all stuck on the top floor of a building. The roof is full of all sorts of nasties, so you can't land on top. Your team is dropped at the base of the building and you have to fight your way up, floor by floor with each floor giving progressively better rewards. Now, here's where the difficulty creeps in - you shouldn't be able to gather any materials in this mission. It's (canonically) time sensitive. You have to rush in and get to the survivors as soon as you can. You shouldn't have time to mine resources. You only have the stuff you brought in with you. The enemy difficulty increases as you go up, and once you get int touch with the group of To emphasize that this isn't just a normal mission, why not ramp up the horror aspect a bit. Have it be extra dark when we get to the rooftop. This final wave of husks appear as dark outlines with glowing eyes, and of course the rooftop wave should be extra tough since it's the last one. Perhaps make a unique epic boss for this? A mutated Flinger that flings smashers? A Smasher/Lazerface cross? I love the idea of a mission of this type. It has the sense of urgency that isn't apparent in normal rescue survivor missions, and the mechanics should be different enough from regular missions that I hope even veterans would enjoy this. We could even throw in a social element to this. Say, Ray needs a certain amount of data to fix on the survivor's exact coordinates. So it's a global server effort to unlock the mission by retrieving the data (from Actual Retrieve the Data missions and crashed satellites from other missions). This can easily be controlled by making it a limited event mission that shows up only occasionally. If you actually read this far, thank you for putting up with the rambling. It's really late here, but I wanted to type this all out before I went off. Couldn't stop thinking about what a Fortnite raid would be like. HUGE Shout out to EPIC! THANKS! Posted: 06 Feb 2018 04:22 PM PST Soo Ive had a bit of a rough time recently. My old PSN account got perm banned from the PS Network...ALL digital content that was purchased on there was revoked from me and I was unable to file a dispute. Over $2,700 was lost in digital content. I emailed Epic, asked if there was ANYTHING they could do to help me play again. I only wanted my Ultimate Edition back...I was okay with losing out on my vBucks and progress...but nope. Epic 1-Up'd me and not only gave me my Ultimate Edition, they offered to help me link my new PSN account to my Epic account... What does this mean? Zero Progress Lost! All I had to do was grant them permission to remove my currently linked PSN account. Once they unlink it, I "Should" be able to jump right back into STW! I plan on continuing my daily STW streams. Hopefully starting tonight or tomorrow! Im always looking for people to play with, PL40+ is ideal. I also dont mind helping anyone who asks for it. If you have questions about ANYTHING STW related, feel free to ask! I want to do my part back to the STW community! You guys are awesome! This is a really happy day for me guys, seriously...I could not have been here without you all. Yeah there was a couple rotten eggs saying I should just give up and accept my loss / stop whining about it / I prob deserved it... But w/e if this is the ONLY game I can get back, Im 100% okay with that! See you guys on the Husk-Filled Battle Grounds! Happy Hunting! A mission type where only traps work Posted: 06 Feb 2018 02:59 AM PST A lot of people from stonewood up to canny never use traps and do not understand the mechanics other players use. Additionally the players which would use traps give up using them until twine because of the other players destroying builts without knowing or stubborness (want to have highest combat therefore shooting in front of funnels etc/ building over other constructions/pits). There is no way to really learn using tactical building because the missions end up in shootouts. But how about a mission type where you are not able to use melee weapons or guns, just traps? It would allow everyone to learn basic building and funneling. Also you would have an area to test new builds. It should be accessible from stonewood until twine so you can adapt to all levels better strategies. Maybe make the weapons just unavailable when you start a corupted atlas or so. Oh and since traps cost a lot, maybe put a suitable reward on it? I know there is the modifier with "trap vulnerable" but somehow a lot of people seem not to get that and shoot still instead or hinder other people building funnels/pits. To me as a trap builder, this modifier is just a small step towards that awareness but imo a mission type which focus on traps would really be nice. It can be something different in playstyle as suggested by others below :) Other ideas about this: A blue shrinking area like in pvp outside no guns work or so (see suggestion below) Or a labyrinth you need to trap off and then husks go through it and none of them should reach the end / the middle [link] [comments] |
