This Week at Bungie - 2/22/2018

This week at Bungie, the factions are rallying again. Future War Cult is aiming for its first win in the Faction Rallies event, but it won't be taken easily. New Monarchy is eyeballing its third victory (in a row, mind you), with legions of dedicated players hitting the grind on public events, Crucible, and Lost Sectors. With a few new rewards to entice a change in pledges of loyalty, it's up in the air as to who will claim victory. We'll find out next week, once Faction Rallies comes to a conclusion and the Tower is decorated with the banners of the victor.

Course Correction

The most important element of making a plan is being open to the fact that it will change. We've updated the Destiny 2 Development Roadmap with some new information. Exotic repetition reduction and Nightfall Strike unique rewards have each been moved out to Destiny Update 1.1.4. Additionally, Exotic weapon and armor sandbox changes have been delayed to Destiny update 1.2.0, to grant proper time to test and implement these changes.

Image Link

Teams are hard at work ensuring these upcoming features not only meet a proper quality bar, but also don't endanger other aspects of the game with potential bugs or issues. We'll keep you updated every step of the way to make sure you know when to expect items to be released.

Say My Name

Next week, Destiny update 1.1.3 will introduce Strike Scoring, the first version of the Prestige Nightfall Challenge Card, and emblem variants. Two weeks ago, we went through how Nightfall Emblems are changing. Joining us again to go a bit deeper, here's Senior Design Lead Tyson Green to talk about the upcoming emblem and aura changes:

Tyson: Emblems in Destiny have been positioned as a vanity collectible, with a few exceptional (and popular) emblems that reflect noteworthy achievements. In D2, we started to pivot emblems more towards the latter example by adding stat displays to some of them. Now, we want to go further in the direction of emblems as a means of exposing achievement.

First, we're exposing more stats on emblems and making those emblems more available to players who want to display those stats. For example, the Crucible emblems that advertise wins or KDA can now be obtained directly from Shaxx after 10 Crucible rep packages (if you don't get one earlier). We're also deploying a new emblem that advertises your Crucible kills, which are broken down by class so you can see who find themselves in your crosshairs most often.

Image Link

Second, we're collapsing auras into emblems and removing them as standalone items. This means that existing Raid, Trials, and new Nightfall Emblems will provide the existing aura effects to players, and future emblems can also roll out new effects. These auras are conditional—for example, you still have to go Flawless or do a Prestige Clear to activate them. Some of these auras will also come with fireteam bonuses, so when they see that aura over you, they know who is giving them that benefit.

Image Link

Lastly, we're introducing variants to some emblems. If an Emblem indicates high achievement and lots of players use it, we didn't want that to mean that everyone looks the same. But we still want achievement emblems to be recognizable as such. Variants are being introduced to allow visible achievement without losing the recognizable identity of the emblem. Some variants are unlocked via conditions—the new Crucible Kills Emblem unlocks some fun "class foe" variations after you down a thousand Guardians of that class. Others are drops from sources like destination chests or Nightfalls, and some of these might be quite rare.

Image Link

An example that ties this all together are the new Nightfall Emblems. Obtained by completing specific Nightfall Strikes, these emblems display your highest personal score in that Nightfall. In the future, we hope to display your clan's highest score too. These emblems have several variants each, which drop from that specific Nightfall, but in some cases only above certain score thresholds (and we expect some to be quite rare.) And finally, these emblems enable the purple Nightfall Aura as well as a fireteam bonus to Vanguard Token drops, but only if your personal high score is above a par-score. That will start off at a value selected from internal playtests but we plan to adjust it based on your (the community's) posted scores each time a Nightfall comes around.

Image Link

This is the first round of this new direction; we hope to do more, and to learn from your response to it. Future releases may revisit or add new emblems for underserved achievements, or more variants for popular emblems.

Last week, I was out with the flu. It's absolutely horrendous this year, and I highly recommend getting a flu shot at your earliest convenience. It did give me some time to sit back and watch a plethora of community created content on the Creations page, though. These movies have taken the top spot for Destiny related entertainment this week, and their creators will be granted an awesome emblem in-game for their troubles.

Movie of the Week: First we dance, then we fight Image Link

Honorable Mention: Crimson Days - Grenades and Fists Only Image Link

Honorable Mention: Run from Acrius Video Link

It's always a pleasure to write the TWaB, and with this week's announcement about my new gig, you'll see me around these parts more often. We're eager to hear your feedback on Strike Scoring, and we will be watching for new threads in the #Feedback forum once the feature goes live. Thanks to all who stop by and share their thoughts, as player feedback is integral to the growth of Destiny 2. As we continue on the path of the roadmap, we'll continue to keep you up to date on any forecast changes as they occur.

Thanks for playing, and we'll see you next time.

Cheers, -dmg04

Please Bungie, Don't make tower chat opt in. MAKE IT OPT OUT.

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 02:35 AM PST

With the Update to the Destiny 2 Development roadmap, I think it is safe to assume that Bungie doesn't want PC tower chat to be a feature used, without opting into the said channel. It should be the opposite.

You should be able to see the open tower chat when loading into the tower as well as navigating through it, if you don't want to see what is being written or typed, you can simply opt out in the settings menu.

I finally got behind the Speaker's Door!

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 05:56 AM PST

A question nearly 4 years in the making: "What's behind the Speaker's Door?" In D2, it was Cayde's Ramen Shop among other cafes, but what was there in D1?

Using my modified Emote Glitch, I was able to breach the door and see what was on the other side.

Now we can finally put our suspicions and theories to rest.

Here's a video <1 minute showing how I got behind the door and what I found.

Dear Bungie, bring back the mystery

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 06:02 AM PST

D2 was a fun exploration into a more narrative world but the core game is lack luster at this point. Aside from crucible I've done most things available for PVE and have zero urge to pick it up again until the next dlc and that bums me out. In D1 I would Sherpa for all the raids to pass time and thourouly enjoy it. The excitement of finding Black Spindle or the long quest chain to get Outbreak Prime are things that made the first grind amazing. Now most exotics are just flung at the player with little to no mystery to uncover. I feel it's too late to make changes to D2 but please bring back the mystery and challenge that brought so many gaurdians together. /end rant

Victory Week currently is pretty pointless. What if, during Victory Week, there were bonuses for players/characters pledged to the winning faction?

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 07:46 AM PST

Aside from the Tower looking a little different for a week, Victory Week doesn't actually do anything. Sure, you can keep turning in tokens, but you can't earn them so that doesn't really get you much.

So, what if during Victory week, any characters you had pledged to the winning faction got gameplay and/or rewards bonuses? Here are some ideas I had:

  • XP boost - Characters pledged to the winning faction get a "Victor" buff, that grants +50% XP gains for the duration of Victory Week.

  • Characters pledged to the winning faction can continue to earn tokens and cash them in for packages or shaders during Victory Week.

  • Characters pledged to the winning faction get a 50% boost to Glimmer gains for the duration of Victory Week

  • On the first day of Victory week, the winning faction vendor will give every member of that faction a package containing Strike and Crucible boons.

And then some things that would be cool, but are probably unrealistic:

  • During Victory Week, characters pledged to the winning faction will receive a 25% cooldown buff in PvE.

  • In PvE, weapons from the winning faction do 10% additional damage to all enemies.

  • During Victory Week, faction weapons can drop as post-activity rewards from Crucible matches and Strikes for those pledged to the winning faction.

What do you guys think? Anything else that would be cool as a reward for your faction winning?

Faction Rally Scannable Locations

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 10:03 AM PST

For those that don't know, you get 5 tokens per scannable. There's a scannable on each planet (Not sure about Mercury). You can get them with each character for a total of 60 tokens. These also include dialogue from the faction vendors, depending on which faction you're pledged to. All 4 scannables were in locations from previous faction rallies.

  • EDZ - Trostland - Widow's Walk Lost Sector (Left Side of Church).
  • Titan - Siren's Watch - Methane Flush Lost Sector.
  • Nessus - Glade of Echoes - The Carrion Pit Lost Sector.
  • Io - Giant's Scar - Excavation Site II Area (Not a lost sector).

edit: For the Io scannable, enter the excavation site II area and once you reach the first area, go up the ramp where there are 4 taken thrall. The scannable is around the corner to the right, through a door that isn't quite open all the way.

We need more exotics that give us new abilities

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 08:37 AM PST

I feel like one of the reasons pvp feels so boring is because our playstyles are limited. If we had more creative exotics that gave us abilities (like twilight garrison, khepri's sting, bones of eao), it would be more interesting, and overall fun. Something as simple as "grants blink" could be the most fun exotic in the game.

Here are some ideas, some might not be balanced but I feel like they would introduce a ton of new playstyles. And remember they could be used on any subclass.

Warlocks Exotics:

  • Grants Blink
  • Gain another grenade charge (2 max)
  • Grants Arc Soul (matches element of subclass)
  • Grants phoenix dive
  • Phoenix dive does a.o.e. damage to nearby enemies
  • Grants Icarus Dash
  • Blink turns you invisible, but blink cooldown is longer

Titan Exotics:

  • Grants Blink
  • Gain another grenade charge (2 max)
  • Grants Icarus Dash (Twilight Garrison)
  • Grants Blessing/Weapons of Light, Bubble lasts longer
  • Damages enemies inside your bubble
  • Grants Death from above
  • Grants Cauterize
  • Airborn shoulder charge does more damage

Hunter Exotics:

  • Grants Blink
  • Gain another grenade charge (2 max)
  • Grants additional jump (Bones of Eao)
  • Crouching turns you temporarily invisible (Khepri's Sting)
  • Replaces melee with throwing knife, grants extra throwing knife

a MOOD ICON should be added in the banner to help your clan mates / friends to understand whether you are willing to team up

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 01:20 AM PST

Dear Bungie, Thanks for the work done and efforts.

I have a small suggestion for you; I have no idea idea about the technical feasibility on dev side but it doesn't seem impossible.

Can we have a MOOD ICON to appear in our banner? Something like an emoticons or equivalent to express will to team up, etc.

Example: - "green face" : willing to play with others - "red face": busy guardian doing smth specific - "smile face" : join anytime you want Etc

Nothing too fancy but it will make people interact more (I guess).

Keep up the good work, Best regards

Titan unique exotic idea

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 10:22 AM PST

Name: Left fist.

This is a heavy exotic that has infinite ammo no need for ammo as it is literally just your other fist.

Main perk: Muscle Wizard: Can melee twice as often and gain an additional melee ability charge.

Secondary unique perk: I Cast Fist: Enemies struck by a melee ability are pushed back forcefully.

When equipped the Titan will raise both fists in front of him and use both of them to punch things. All perks from subclasses and exotics that affect melee attacks apply. The I Cast Fist perk works like the repulsive force of the tractor cannon. It also applies to the AOE of a shoulder charge meaning that finally you can live out your dream of being a runaway bowling ball.

Pro's:

  • No longer do you have to bring a gun to a fist fight.

  • Can punch people off of cliffs.

  • Can punch people into walls.

  • Teamshot Meta replaced with a pub brawl.

  • Bowling.

  • Punching.

Cons:

  • Scuffed gauntlets.

What if bringing up your Ghost projected a minimap type thing onto a point of your screen, via your Ghost's core?

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 04:14 AM PST

I'm back, after a long hiatus, and realised this is something I'd quite like to have as a feature, a minimap that's a more zoomed and detailed version of the destination map. Thoughts?

So it looks like New Monarchy is going to 3 peat the Faction Rally

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 02:10 AM PST

According to Charlegmane, the Discord bot, that tracks all users registered with it (a pretty signficant chunk of players) New Monarchy has collected 40K packages, DO has 34.3K and FWC has 34K.

For reference, last faction rally NM had 233.9K, DO had 149.9K and FWC was at 145.1K packages.

It doesn't track every single package by every single player. Only those registered with Charlegmane on Discord, however it does follow the playerbase pattern accurately.

Edit: NM is now at 42K and FWC along with DO are at 36K.

[D2 CONCEPT] How Bungie can make Reskins Better/Unique in D2 (The D1 Reskin Method Returns)

Posted: 21 Feb 2018 04:30 PM PST

Bungie, you got lazy.

You had a good system for reskins in D1 that you pretty much threw away and only NOW are starting to use again.

If you are making a weapon a reskin, it actually needs to have changes to the model in some fashion besides the paint job.

ENTER, THE CONCEPT GUY... uh, hi.

What I did is I went through all of the weapon parts that could work on the Destiny 2 Vanguard AR Model. (Origin Story)

And to be even more clear, these attachments are from other existing parts in the game. They literally exist but are not used for more than just one thing.

Some of the attachments included are:

I also took the time to make some examples of reskins using this system:

Imgur Gallery of All Attachment Types + Examples!

Now I understand that some of you might be hesitant because you want Bungie to focus on making unique gear, which they should...

But this is always a side to Looters that can't be ignored or it does become an issue, like in D2.

They cannot make everything completely unique, that's way too much work for one aspect of the game.

Please understand that reskins don't have to be bad if Bungie starts to put in the effort and give them each uniqueness.

They did it all across D1 over 3 years but because of how it was handled it was not the biggest issue in the world.

What do you Guardians think? Should Bungie invest the time to allow for reskins to look different?

So......I got this emblem

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 06:52 AM PST

I was pretty surprised that this emblem dropped from a shack weekly bountie.

The kiosk says that the emblem can be obtained from trials matches, trials isn't on D1 anymore so I'm wondering what else those bounties can drop 🤔

Edit: I've been playing since release so I'm aware of the origin of this emblem lol

Make the EDZ and class specific ghost shells buy able in-game.

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 02:41 AM PST

I'd like for Bungie to add these to the specific vendors because some of us especially with the class ghost shells dismantled them because we got bad perks from them and expected them to be obtainable again in-game. Make the titan specific ghost shell buy able from Zavala, the hunter one from Cayde-6 and warlock from Ikora. I just want to get them back but with better perks.

Banshee-44 Gunsmith Engram Bug

Anyone else encountered this? I've had it happen a few times and it's kinda irritating when you're trying to grind out MW cores.

Basically it seems that handing in gunsmith materials too quickly sometimes just flat out doesn't reward an engram. Be careful spamming that button, guardians!

p.s. No, I don't know why I check my armor slots first either, it's been a long day.

“Which Weapon Loadout Do You Prefer” Poll

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 04:23 AM PST

First time making a poll, but I thought this might be useful. No doubt Bungie is thinking about how they can improve on Destiny 2's weapon loadout. They mentioned Fall '18 will bring "weapon slot improvements". This could mean anything.

Some players like the current system while a big chunk of players want to go back to the primary/special/heavy system. Some want a combination of both with a 4 slot loadout.

My goal here was to make a poll that would give Bungie better idea of what the majority wants. Hopefully, this will get a lot of votes, but we'll see what happens.

Exotic concept: Bad JuJu remains

Posted: 22 Feb 2018 11:19 AM PST

Appearance would use the bones from Bad JuJu with the top half of the skull on the left shoulder, and the spine on the left forearm

Exotic perk: Old Bones - getting a kill with a pulse riffle automatically reloads the gun and gives bonus super energy

Lore:

"Is this why you dragged me out here? To Find that piece of trash?"

"It's not… ok it's kinda trash, but I can still use it"

"If you think that gun will still work than you must be a Titan."

"I don't need the gun, just the bones"

"If you think some bones are better than a gun?"

"Now who sounds like a Titan"

My idea behind this is that Titans and hunters have exotic armor for certain weapon classes, warlock didn't have gear like this and there is no exotic armor for scout rifles or pulse rifles.

This armor would essentially turn any pulse rifle into bad JuJu. I also have an idea for scout rifle exotic armor.
