Long time Zelda fan about to play BotW for first time this weekend; any advice or hindsight to share as I embark on this journey?

Posted: 25 Jan 2018 08:06 AM PST

I've been playing Zelda since the early 1990's. OoT changed my life when I was a child, and every Zelda release thereafter created a kind of ritualistic experience when I would sit down to play the next installment. For a multitude of reasons, I have been unable to purchase and/or play BotW until last week when I finally purchased a Switch. I am so excited to play this game and am wondering if anyone has advice for me to get the most out of the way Nintendo approached the open world experience for the new game.

[BoTW] Why does Ganon want to conquer and destroy Hyrule so badly?

Posted: 25 Jan 2018 09:55 AM PST

Bear in mind that I am an amateur when it comes to the lore of the LOZ franchise and I just started playing BOTW recently (and OMG this is my first LOZ game and I am in love with it and I cannot believe that I missed out on entire series of good games) but I pretty much know that Link is basically the hero of Hyrule who has to save Princess Zelda from Ganon who wants to take over Hyrule.

Ganon has been pretty much the main bad guy in almost all LOZ games, including in BoTW.

It is pretty much a classic black and white hero/adventure story with the hero having to save the damsel in distress+ from an evil villain.

+(well, kinda because Zelda can take care of herself sometimes and in some games, she is depicted as a badass princess like Sheik in OOT or in BOTW where she actually fought with Link and actually saved Link putting him to sleep for 100 years and helped prepare Link for the final battle against Ganon while she was too busy trying to keep Ganon "trapped" inside Hyrule Castle. I kinda hate to do this but I agree with Sarkessian a bit because the whole point of almost every LOZ game is to save the princess, kill the bad guy and the end)

But what is Ganon's end goal?

What is his motivation behind conquering Hyrule?

Is there a story or a reason behind it or is Ganon pretty much a stereotypical villain/dictator who is hungry for power?

I just finished BotW. I want to continue but I can't.

As the title says I just finished this masterpiece of a game. But as I got send back to the title screen I wanted to continue and do everything that's left in the game. My last save is the auto save right before Ganon. There is no finished game save. How can I continue now?

Trick to beat Lynels so safely and so easily that it's honestly a bit game ruining. I can't believe I haven't seen anyone mention it on this sub before.

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 06:47 PM PST

I apologize if this is actually common knowledge and I've just somehow missed it every time- please let me know/downvote if so- but I'm still seeing people asking for advice about how to defeat Lynels and no one seems to be talking about this.

With a little timing, attack boost, and a powerful bow (ie, a multishot bow) you can kill lynels by repeatedly headshotting them and stunning them over and over.

I eventually found a video some other guy made that demonstrates the concept but it's only at like 300 views: link

Just have to wait until a moment after their little head shake. Warning: they have a damage floor that prevents them from getting stunned if you didn't do enough damage, and this floor seems to go up with each consecutive stun. However, with full attack boost and a shotgun mode bow, you will kill them before they reach a point where you can't stun anymore. Rinse and repeat on stronger and stronger lynels until you have as many 49x3's and 32x5's as you want.

Frankly it kinda sucks because I have absolutely no fear of anything anymore, it makes it so easy to kill them. Just jump off an overlook, or use mask, or stasis, or revali's+glide, whatever. After you get the first guaranteed headshot, the fights as good as over. I like to save stasis for a second chance in case I fuck it up at some point, but really it's pretty easy, you have a full ~0.75s window which may not sound like a lot but is plenty in practice. You can even get a kill before the fight music starts sometimes if you're good.

Anyway hope this helps someone out there, thanks

What are your thoughts on Skyward Sword

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 07:43 PM PST

I've had it for a while but never really played it. I'm in eldin for the first time and I'm enjoying it so far. Fi does get annoying and I don't like flying and how it gives you an item description every time you load it up, but I'm not having trouble with the controls and I'm just having fun all around

It's interesting that in OOT, the one boss without a title is...

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 06:35 PM PST

the final boss. Is this because Ganon appeared in other games made before OOT and therefore didn't need an introduction? Is it because he's evil beyond description?
