This is really big for 64 and especially the Peruvian scene. 64 has never been stronger, and hopefully we can now see him vs. Boom a lot.

Smash Sisters @ Genesis 5 [xpost from r/ssbm]

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 10:40 AM PST

It's been two years since the first Smash Sisters crew battle and we celebrated our anniversary this past weekend at Genesis 5! With ~50 women across Smash 4 and Melee, it was hella fun playing, hanging and generally talking shit. We ran casual crews (all skill levels welcome!) on Friday and competitive crews (rosters were determined beforehand) on Saturday. Shoutouts to the awesome staff at G5 for their support, thanks to the commentators – Brosalina and Bam for Smash 4 and Dr Piggy, SleepyK, Chroma, and Reno for Melee – and to Kent from BentoBoxTV for production.

Event stuff

FAQ

What is Smash Sisters?

It's a series of side events you'll see at some majors; crew battles for women to meet and compete and have fun with.

Why don't women just play in the regular bracket?

They do. This is a side event.

How can I show support?

Come out to our events and either play in the crew battles or cheer on with the crowd. If you want to run a Smash Sisters crew battle at your event, contact myself (emilywaves) or milktea on Facebook or Twitter. Generally, it's good if you have a woman to sponsor and help run the event.

In G5 GFs, was Plup doing Standing Lasers to Bait Hungrybox?

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 09:18 AM PST

I noticed while watching the grand finals that Plup was doing quite a bit of standing lasers. Some of them I'm sure were missed inputs but as the set went on it felt like he was doing some on purpose to bait Hungrybox into approaching him.

Did anyone else think this or am I crazy?

What kind of present would you get for someone who is a smashbros fanatic?

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 05:47 PM PST

As per the title and I hope I'm not breaking any rules asking this here but I'm not sure what to get a family member who loves smash bros for his birthday gift. Any ideas are much appreciated.

My boyfriend is super into SSMB but I'm not sure what to get him for Valentine's Day. Any ideas?

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 07:32 PM PST

Hi guys, so I don't know much about Smash, but I definitely want to get my boyfriend something Smash related for Valentine's Day. I think I'm going to make him a watercolor of one of his favorite characters but I'm not sure what else to do.

He mains Toon Link and Yoshi now I think, and he loves Toon Link as a whole, and he's mained Kirby, Yoshi, Pikachu, Zelda, Fox, and probably more in the past.

My boyfriend frequents this sub and I've been stalking his account to find things that he'll like, but I think I need to learn more about Smash to figure it out haha.

If you guys have any cute pun suggestions or Smash-related anythings I could potentially get him, thanks!

Sorry if this doesn't quite belong here, but I wasn't sure where else to post this.

Could a Trial for A Bayonetta Ban Be Done Like This?

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 05:57 PM PST

With the the recent talk of a new bayo ban here, I was wondering if something like this would work to get real data on the situation

With the main new argument being Bayo makes the game less fun to low-mid level players who make up the largest spectator crowd, and largest % of the playerbase, I think this would test that demographic well:

  1. Have a Bayo ban allowed in B tier and below tournaments for 3 months, and give TO's the option to take part in a basic attendance and reaction survey or continue without a ban

  2. After this period, have an A+ tier tournament with a bayo ban (maybe doubles cloud ban), with a 3 month notice of the ruleset to all players (e.g. 2GG Revolution Saga)

  3. After this time, have the community leaders analyse the viewership numbers, local/regional attendance and general reaction to determine if a bayo ban is worth the myriad of potential negative effects

I don't know if the logistics of this are possible, or if something in this format would be helpful, so if you are knowledgeable in this area, state why or why not

Where does the character viability end in smash 4?

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 12:36 PM PST

I understand that everyone above Greninja is probably viable in almost all situations but how many characters (if any) below him are viable as anything but a counterpick for certain matchups?

For folks going to EVO Japan, some tips from a American local

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 06:53 AM PST

Hey smashbros Reddit,

I know a lot of folks will be coming to Japan for EVO, so I wanted to make sure you guys get prepared and if you need any tips. I'm from California and have been living in Japan for a few years now. Specifically Tokyo, so I wanted to reach out to give some advice and tips for anyone here. I'll be available to private message and reply right away.

I know going to another country can be difficult and nerve racking, but Japan is honestly an awesome and easy place to navigate when you have someone to help you around. So whether it be looking for places to eat, accommodations, things to see, places to avoid and just about anything, I'm your guy!

I also do my own local nightlife tours for travelers through Airbnb, so it's kinda my job to know the area lol, but if people just need help I'll be easy to reach out. Have fun any hope to see many of you guys soon in Japan!
