| Retrospective: Listen here to the audio horror ambience that used to be in the game. Posted: 24 Jan 2018 03:26 AM PST When I first got the game in Alpha 11, the ambient audio had a lot more horror feel to it. Some of it was genuinely tense, unnerving, and creepy as hell to me. Most of this ambience heard in this video is now gone, which I wish they had not removed. I could understand some people finding it a bit too cheesy or heavy-handed. But I really enjoyed the horror quality it added to the game. You can decide for yourself (headphones recommended). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XorCxGbUS7Q Biomes had their own separate creepy themed ambience: Plains: Creepy, unnerving whispering straight out of a horror flick, and some kind of distant fog horn thing that almost sounds like a male vocal sound. Whatever it is, is freaky. Pine forest: Wooshing winds, insect sounds, weird creepy jingle interlude. Burnt forest: Maybe the most disconcerting. You hear what to me sounds like an infant screaming, that eventually morphs into something like a crow squawking. Some people say in A16 there's a sound in the wastelands that sorta, kinda sounds like a crying kid... well try this on for size. It's puts the current one to shame on the creepy scale. Then something that sounds like a wind-up music box from hell. Desert: More wooshing winds, tense musical stings, rattlesnake-like sounds, and winged insect sounds. Very immersive. I felt like I was in a hot, dry desert. Wasteland: Creepy as fuck. A heartbeat-like interlude. Dogs barking. Crows squawking. Creepy Predator-like clicking. Then an ominous baseline with a growing tinnitus ear-ringing sound. Shit made me feel genuinely tense. Snow: Howling winds, crackling sounds like snow crunching or ice cracking. Then a weird sound almost like a Geiger counter. I really wish they brought more of this horror element back into the game, but that's just me. [link] [comments] | ||

| How many chunks does heat bleed into? Posted: 24 Jan 2018 10:30 AM PST I'm making a infinite screamer zombie loot farm. I'm going to be utilizing 25 forges within a 16x16 chunk, in order to generate a constant 100% heat. I'm on console, so I unfortunately can't open the debugger to test this out myself, but I have been told that heat bleeds into other chunks. Meaning I can't just have 25 forges going every 16x16 chunk and generate insane amounts of screamers. How many chunks around the original heat source will heat bleed into? And is it a 100% Rate? Meaning if I generate 100% heat in chunk 42x35, will chunk 43x36 be at 100% heat, or will be be reduced to something like 75% heat? If heat bleeds into like 4 chunks and stops, what I am planning is making a zombie arena. In the center will be a zombie kill base, and 4 chunks away in the each direction will be 25 forges going, generating as many screamers as possible. I'll also try to make a funnel, as some of those screamers could spawn really far from the kill base and not be able to find the center. Thanks guys [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 24 Jan 2018 10:47 PM PST I just started playing again, i quit around a year ago. Idk if things are different now in alpha 16, so whats the fastest, most efficient way to mine raw iron, especially early game before you unlock steel? (which also seems to be different and more difficult btw) [link] [comments] | ||
| Minibike Chassis viable first line defense! Posted: 24 Jan 2018 03:31 PM PST Just got through watching a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DoRyNPShLcc tl;dr: a wall of minibike chassis will stop normal walking zeds and spider zombies reliably. Wolves and dogs will potentially bug over when colliding with another wolf or dog. The same may happen with crawlers. And of course Cops may cause serious problems too.
So why am I excited about this? Mazing and first lines of defense!! It's a low to the ground wall you can easily shoot over that can hold back SOME zombies on the perimeter. Inside the outer perimeter you could then use them to "maze" or make the zombies walk back and forth taking far longer to cover the same horizontal distance. Especially with added barbed wire. During this time you can easily shoot the zombies without issue. I'm sure there will be other flaws, but this is still potentially quite useful if used properly in kill tunnels and even if some get broken I'm pretty sure your repair costs for your kill tunnel mazing will be lower. As well since you can jump over them it's more convenient to pass through them yourself :). I'm going to thoroughly test this out when A17 eventually drops. [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 24 Jan 2018 02:17 AM PST With the new arrival of new POI's and the higher loot.. is there any plans on coding in backpacks. Cause the space in our inventory isn't gonna cut it anymore.. also the space in our mini bike is like so bad. With the new jeep coming to play I hope there will be space in there to. However you'll not get the chance to craft a jeep within the first month.... well not ya normal players anyway. I just wish for backpacks... being able to upgrade them for larger storage space. What do you guys think? Adding a 1x1 back pack slot for only one backpack, unlock more as you level up and level up skills and gain more better larger backpacks. I don't want this to be over powered.. just sooo much loot.. [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 24 Jan 2018 05:57 AM PST So i found my first trader but when i went up to it i got teleported about 30 feet away. Is this normal? It was technically night time but i don't see why that would make me teleport like i did. [link] [comments] |
